Chris McFeely why did you censor the name?
So you gonna cover overload one day?
Ooooh ok I didn’t realise that thanks
Overlo *r* d and Overlo *a* d
Chris McFeely I actually have one of the toys!
"Overlord has worn a surprising variety of faces..." Most of them were attached to other people before he met them.
Zabe Ryerams ollie’s? that’s where i got hum
that sound like something movie optimus would do not overlord
@@KilosFoxo Optimus: Give me your face.
Poor old Springer. Will take more than a band aid to fix that injury.
@@daverage4729 Probably even more than a welding torch.
I honestly think the southern accent suits Overlord, he does look like the kind of con that would charm you before he kills you, ask Rotorstorm.
[Edit: This is the same way I think a german accent fits Blitzwing, half of his name is german afterall]
I agree
poor rotorstorm
Oddly enough it reminds me of Neegan in a sense: a charming and charismatic guy who has no issue bashing your brains in with a baseball bat
I'm still looking for the animated toy version.
That makes a whole lotta sense for Blitzwing!!😂😂
Also I like Overlord's accent as well, it's almost chilling known how he's so smooth talking before he'll brutally kill you.
I met Overlord through the MTMTE comics, and I have never wanted a character dead more than that guy.
Will Brownman I don’t know, I REALLY hated Getaway
I dont understand, his a the perfect badguy, he gives you that sense of fear anytime his in a room, getaway is just a manipulative jerk
cough cough Getaway cough
me
I got the toy of him in like 1991 for xmas, one of my favourite toys.
For those who are new: Chris doesn't really talk third party figures. That's why those toys don't get a mention
Yeah and even if he did mention third party figures, what’s really to tell?
@@stevenvu5403 Carnifex?
@@auberginemanproductions1608 what?
@@stevenvu5403 Carnifex was a third party IDW Overlord
@@auberginemanproductions1608 oh that’s was the name is. I didn’t know the name of that figure.
Anyone almost surprised that Overlord was never added to Bayverse? He would fit uncomfortably well.
I know this comment is 4 years old but I think the reason why he was never added is just cause what he does wouldn't stand out from the ultra violence that already happens in the movies.
Even he would look at what was happening in the Bayverse and say "Hmm, I think I've been outclassed, this is a little too much for me"
Ah, I see. Between his rather unique apperance in Masterforce, to being a key component of the renowned Wreckers and Lost Light comic series, to having a major role in Prime Wars, I can see why Overlord has become a fan favorite.
He’s certainly got some unique aspects to him. Hasbro really needs to Spawn more Overlords in future incarnations of the franchise to give him more exposure.
Pio Nepomuceno there’s one particular quote from Wreckers about overlord that always stick in my mind:
Kup: “Unlike every other ‘con tough enough to give Megatron sleepless nights, Overlord wasn’t power-hungry. He just wanted to graduate from homicide to genocide. Add a few notches to his kill stats.”
You made this entire comment just to make that pun didn't you?
I encountered Overlord during the IDW run :shudders:. One of my favorite hated villains.
Agreed. One of the only few villains in fiction to give me chills whenever I see them.
Same, but overlord fills me with rage and hatred when I see him
What about Tarn?
@@michaelaluna7684 gives me the creeps
How 'bout getaway
4:24 I love this. They only reason we have IDW Overlord is because one of the writers had the toy as a kid.
IDW was my introduction to Overlord. Becoming one of my favourite characters in the single best story in the entire IDW run.
Plot twist: Overlord from IDW and Bayverse Optimus are the same person
Makes so much sense.
Pretty sure Bayverse Optimus is much worse
Can you eat overlord?....cybertron would be much better off without him.
But he hasn't taken anyone's face with a one liner
Wouldn't surprise me
IDW was the first time I ever heard of overlord...
Rip Pipes and Rewind
JEEZ. Both their deaths were sad. Pipes had a whole speech about him not wasting his life, and Rewind gave his life to save everyone he loved

Who?
That southern accent is something I want for the character hence forth. Honestly his part in that series is why I like him, Megatron obsession aside.
Same lol
Yeah gives me Max Cady vibes
For the live action movie, and have him voiced by Jeffery Dean Morgan channeling Meghan.
That boxart at 3:30 blew my tiny mind as a young 'un!
Thew Adams And Sooner or later, Siege’ll finally give us the ability to physically reenact it with modern toys. Woo
some how I know you wound be here
@@karda009 I'm quaking in my booties
Hi thew! Im late .
Word
Titans Return was where I found Overlord for the first time, and I gotta say, I liked that it lead to a scene where Megatron showed a caring side to Mistress of Flame.
I discovered overlord in titans return. My older brother bought him for me for $16 on marshals.
I always imagine David Kay voicing Overlord
Overlord: Yeesss!!!! I understand that joke.
Proceeds to laugh:
A decepticon soldier joins him laughing
Decepticon Soldier: I Prieciate that you understood my joke, Overlord-
Only for Overlord to place a gun onto his soldier's head kills him.
Overlord: Apologies. My hand just slipt.
I first met Overlord through Masterforce but the IDW version stuck out more either way they were both good. But can we please see the basics on Sixshot
Seconded on Sixshot please
Oh god I'd love to see that too!!
Finally.
This guy is one of the most monstrous (I speak english at an ALMOST professional level, ok?) Transformers that ever existed (thanks to IDW) and I would love to see a spotlight comic about him by, IDK, Justin Jordan and German Erramouspe? That's just my opinion.
Also, SPOILER ALERT, he killed the real Rewind, so he deserves worse.
I got to learn more about the TransFormers characters and lore through Chris. Great job 👍 I hope that one day, you'll do a basics on Starscream.
I am from the future, fear not
"Till yall are one." -Overlord probably.
7:50 "I'm Overlord. Look at ma Truker Hat."
“I was going through a phase”
"You plum-done dag-gone done did it now son"
"Well son, Looks like Overlord is your unlucky lord"
“Lookie Springer, more ‘Cons!”
@@krbchris26Who in the what now?
Ill never get over how smoothly you did that southern accent, and how damn accurate it was.
IDW version, thats my favorite version he is scary af and menacing
ohoho hes beyond that aight he psyco
It was like he was unkillable in Last Stand of The Wreckers
We need idw overlord with prime wars overlord southern accent
The G1 Overlord is a very-very frequent figure in Hungary. Every TF fan has one or two, including myself too.
Mind giving one to a romanian neighbour?
I will always be disappointed that Megatron didn't kill him when he killed Tarn and the rest of the DJD. But that's because IDW Megatron is my favorite take on the character ever.
Mine too.
A fitting end would be Megatron kicking Overlord's ass so hard that Overlord can't repair himself from it and Megatron slapping Overlord with the truth that even as a "weak" Autobot, Megatron is still stronger than Overlord. Thus defeating Overlord both psychologically and physically
@@WhyTho525 I would've loved to see that happen. Unfortunately, they needed him for Requiem of the Wreckers.
@@ramblingemu1953 Yeah
*Prime Wars Megatron enters the chat, humor in tow*
I like reading comic Overlord with a southern accent, it give him a “House of Cards” feeling.
It's weird, when I first voiced Overlord in my MTMTE video, I did him with a southern accent too. WELL before ever seeing him depicted in the Machinima series speaking with one. I just read his words again and again and for some reason, his voice felt natural speaking his words with that accent and tone. It seems I guess like a sophisticated with a cruel side kinda scary accent that you don't wanna run into when alone at night outside a Florida bar.
When I first saw MMC's Carnifex, and the price, I scoffed: who would buy this at this price? Then I read Last Stand of the Wreckers. Needless to say, it went from "no way" to insta-buy". I love what they did with the character.
Overlord was one of the best aspects of the Prime Wars Trilogy. His lines made me think of Hades from Kid Icarus.
Funny as Patrick seitz played Magnus in SSB
Thanks for this video Chris. Your channel is so underrated and doesn’t get nearly enough views it should
Ah Tarantulas and machines.
I like to watch Transformers cartoons and read the comics but every time you do the Basics on a character Chris I get more and more tempted to buy the toys.
Okay, I'm honestly digging Overlord's southern accent. Now everytime I see him I'll imagine him speaking like that
Great video, I was totally obsessed with this guy after "Last Stand of the Wreckers", he was my very first TH-cam Review.
I'm still hoping to grab up a G1 version one of these days.
One of the best TF villains! The One Decepticon that makes Megatron look tame in comparison!
Seeing him on the Lost Light was what introduced me to him. (Mostly gotten last stand of the wreckers for Verity)
7:42
What inTARNation
i would like to see the Basics on Ironhide.
I like how Overlord’s design is almost Autobot, with a full face and chunky Prime chassis.
I think, titans return was the first time I've heard of this guy
Chris's southern accent got shaking sounds real good
First time was watching a TH-cam video of old Japanese Transformers toy commercials. Specifically the one you showed clips from. Fell in love with the design and tried to track down that original toy but the price on him was more than what I was willing to spend.
Thank goodness now for the Takara Legends version. May not be the Godmaster version but he'll work for me
It was IDW were I first met this character, followed closely by the Power of the Primes series.
I first got my heaping, helping dose of OverLord from the IDW comics, and he was a brilliant monster!
7:39 The fact that Chris have to use the Southern Accent for telling of Overlord's accent just made my day
I was wondering who this jerk was. 'Course nowadays nearly every TF is a jerk. I think this guy would be a great Decepticon leader for future shows.
I had Overload as a kid, I still have him though he's a bit worse for wear.
How so
@@deepstrike9750 hi Mark, there’s quite a lot of snapped plastic on him, one of his chest doors and his shoulder
Comes, along with several pieces of protruding wing plastic. It’s a shame, but it’s a right off.
@@ultra_marcus I just put it as Overlord has seen his fair share of battles.

Overlord: THIS IS WHO I AM!
I don't know exactly when I was aware of Overlord, but it was close to when the G1 Commemerative toys were out in Canada. I didn't grow up on G1 but I started looking into it and was immediately attracted to some of the Japanese ones since I was already into Gundam. (and maybe RID was on at that point?) Overlord and Star Saber were ones that I always wanted and thankfully they did eventually get new toys many many years later.
Overlord is legitimately one of the reasons I got back into Transformers
"Last Stand of the Wreckers" is probably his most famous appearance, but it seems that Overlord was destined for violence even before he was himself, given that surprisingly-graphic beatdown he gave Jinrai (or was that Optimus shown when Jinrai was mentioned?) in Super-God Masterforce. They say the best characters take on a life of their own and influence their writers on where to go; if a character can debut in a mostly-forgotten series and keep his hobby when he comes back decades later with few toys to his name, I'd say that Overlord definitely took on a life of his own...Which is very sad when you consider how many lives of others he's taken...
"Please attend carefully" was originally said by the Master in Doctor Who. A good villain's line.
G1 Overlord’s bot mode was solid! I’m 43 and an old school TF fan, but I’ll admit I didn’t even know about this character until IDW comics.
Chris, how about a "Basics on the Phase Sixers?" Or a "Basics on Point One Percenters?"
That Overlord toy advert clip looked amazing!
Great episode Chris!
0:03-0:06 is that a reference to 2015's robots in disguise Overload?
Could you do a Basics for the following: Humans- the fleshy pals that tag along for better or for worse
The War- why are they fighting in the first place
Japanese only series- The shows that never made it to the west.
Maccadam- The oil house and its owner who spans continuities
Relics of the Primes- special weapons or tools like the star saber or the forge of Solus Prime
Action Masters- Transformers without the transformation
Energon- the lifeblood of cybertronians and all its variants
Robots in disguise (original)- The middle child between the beast era and the Unicron trilogy
The 1991 Europe release version of this guy is literally the first Transformers toy I ever laid eyes on as a kid. One of the other kids at the school I was attending at the time had him. And since I never got into the Japanese media I have had no idea who this toy was until now. Thank you for laying the mystery to rest!
So weirdly enough, I first encountered Overlord from a webcomic I used to read that had a mini arc about someone breaking her rommate's Overlord figure and struggling to describe it over the phone while panicking on how she can fix or replace it.
what was that webcomic?
@iinkygiirl5078 Fair warning: it's a comic aimed at adults, with lots of sexual content. Its title is "Menage a 3", published by Pixie Trix Comix. The plot twist with the Overlord figure 'breaking' is that it wasn't actually damaged at all; the girl just didn't know much of anything about Transformers, and had no idea that this character was meant to be broken apart and put back together as part of transforming it. Upon discovering this, the boy tricked the girl into agreeing to watch a bunch of old cartoon episodes with him before he revealed the truth.
i cant tell who is worse ... tarn or overload
I first discovered him in the pages of MTMTE after Red Alert discovered him I knew he was a major threat in the comics and after reading Last Stand I can see why though I had no idea of his Master Force days might check that anime after hearing about the dynamic of its Generation of Decepticons I like villains with shades of nobility
Despite his causal and joking demeanor overlord is one of the nastiest most depraved vile and malevolent character and cybertronian even worse darker and more evil than his hated enemy megatron
The Prime Wars trilogy cartoon was the first I had ever heard of Overlord. So rather than his accent, just Overlord himself was unexpected to me.
More times I keep hearing "Overlord". More times I keep quoting lines from "Command & Conquer: Generals" Super Heavy Battle Tank from the People's Republic of China faction.
"Overlord is BIG."
Basics on wheeljack please.
I first learned about Overlord in the IDW comics. Those pouty lips instantly drew me in lol
Killer video, I find myself looking forward to these and only wish they would arrive more frequently... Keep up the great work! P.S. Ever consider a Basics video on some of the human characters in the Transformers? Dr. Ackerville would be interesting especially considering Casey Kasem's history with the show. Thanks again!
I get to know IDW version of Overlord. And.. I would highly.. *Highly* own his TR toy.. But TR toy line didn't arrive here.. >,
To be honest....I actually like Overlord's southern accent.
My dad went to school with Nick, the writer of the last stand of the wreckers.
This is great! I’d love to see one on sideswipe.
Please do the basics of spies transformers mostly punch counter punch.
I have always imagined Overlord being the Decepticon equivalent of Ultra Magnus. Overlord is the #2 Decepticon after Megatron and Ultra Magnus being #2 after Optimus Prime for the Autobots. I did not know of Overlord until the first announcement of his Titans Return figure. Overlord has become one of my top 5 favorite G1 toys/characters, since I learned about him. :D
I've always felt that way about Shockwave. :)
@@originaluddite I view the Decepticon's top rank's in terms of how sinister the characters are in this order:
1) Megatron/Galvatron
2) Overlord
3) Deathsaurus
4) Nemesis Prime
5) Soundwave
6) Shockwave
7) Scorponok
8) Cyclonus
What do you think?
I'm at a bit of a disadvantage here, not really being familiar with the Japan-only part of G1, but I'd happily agree to your ordering of who is most sinister. I'm not sure that's would translate into ranks, however.
Two very ruthless and ambitious Decepticons might never accept one another as superior, and so the result would be two rival faction leaders, or one overall leader and one outcast maverick.
With that in mind, the most sinister character might be the leader, the second most sinister one an independent marauder, the third most sinister a lieutenant serving the leader, and so on. :)
They be also both got weird shoulders
I imagine him sounding and acting exactly like Sundowner from Metal Gear Rising
I'm never going to unhear that southern accent, and I love it. Thank you for the episode!
I first saw Overlord during Masterforce! He could have been sold in the US as Gigatron! I'm glad he made the Titans Return (new generation Headmasters) toyline!
Most consistently great series of videos around! Quality
Overlord is just flywheels on steroids
Oof Overlord's lips thicc
I first encountered Overlord at age of 11 in 1991 (eurepean release here in Germany). Never liked him back in the day cause there was little backround for him and he appeared out of nowhere). Nowadays I do like his IDW incarnation very much. The best Overlord toy out there is MMCs Carnifex!!! Own him myself and he is flawless besides his bad shoulder transformation...
Do the BASICS ON DRIFT
titans return overlord is basically engineer tf2 but a decepticon lmao
Hey it's getting late, I should probably go to bed soon- NOPE, THERE'S A TRANSFORMERS BASICS EPISODE OUT, SLEEP CAN WAIT
All I can think of is a Tim Curry impression. All I can think of is a Tim Curry impression.
I really loved Overlord in Masterforce. Lord Giga was my absolutely favourite villain, but in the end we saw his other part of character - he's a loyal commander and brave warrior. Still broken with Giga's and Mega's death. To be honest, I didn't watched TF after Victory. That time was classic and todays TF's aren't exist for me.
Thank you for vid!
I hope that if we ever see Overlord in a proper show that he's voiced by Chris Guerrero for obvious reasons.
First line after the intro: "The original overlord toy was released exclusively in Japan in 1998" - me: Nope, that's allready wrong. Some of us Europeans got him too.
Interesting... I would worry as to what would happen if Overlord is both an Power Master (From the anime) as well as a Headmaster (From the toyline), He'd be very scary to face, don't you think?
Solid Doctor Who quote/paraphrase to kick this video off. I'd love to see a basics on the Japanese G1 cartoons continuity.
Ngl, i think Overlord is now one of my favourite decepticons.
When I was young, one of my cousins had the original toy (I am from europe). Thats how I knew that Overlord existed.
I saw him in the transformers power of the primes and I was like man! I gotta due my homework..absolutely BadAss! Great video!
So if Transformers super god master force had come to America for maybe season 5 I would be known as Transformers powermaster force right. Ah who am I kidding.
0:03 ooo that reference tho
7:40-7:41 as a southerner myself I approve of that impression
Yeah, his southern accent was weird. Whenever I read his dialogue in the IDW comics I hear Malcolm McDowell.
Bro really out here to fight megatron but isn't an autobot, and doubly doesn't care about leading, like how has he not interacted with star scream yet? That dynamic needs to be used, it's a gold mine waiting to happen!
Megatron: this, is requiem.
Overlord: wha-
His G1 toy alternate modes look like an SR-71 Black Bird and an M1A1 Abrams
