I loved how Armada used Leader-1. It established that Leader-1 was the peaceful commander of all Mini-Cons (just like the Go-Bot version before Cy-Kill went all rogue), but Megatron enslaved him for his nefarious purposes (just like how Transformers bought Go-Bots to use for their own products). It’s kinda hilarious if you think about it
I also love how Armada Cy-Kill (an easter egg in one of the Armada comics) looks just like the original Cy-Kill, while Armada Leader-1, just like most Armada characters, looks nothing like his original namesake.
I love how this is an April fools joke but at the same time is actually still a really good quality, informed and researched video and not just some shitty YTP like most people do! Nice work!

Honestly, I had that Rock Lords movie on a vhs somewhere and actually had one of the rock lords figures. You may initially think it's "stupid" to have a figure who turns into a rock, except when you realize it was meant to be a method of stealth, and nothing is more easily overlooked than a rock.
That'd also be a great Alt mode for alien invaders. Just think about it: 1. They transform into small rocks 2. Launch themselves at a planet 3. The inhabitants think that they’re just meteors 4. The invaders are just small enough where a meteor of similar size would either burn up in the atmosphere or be destroyed upon impact 5. The invaders then go into hiding until there's enough of them on the planet to do a proper invasion 6. Even if the inhabitants investigate the impact area, there's nothing suspicious (see 4.) 7. The invaders all come out of hiding and catch the planet's inhabitants off guard, easily taking over the planet It kind of reminds me of what Hive Fleet Jormungandr does (though they take up residence inside meteors rather than transforming into them).
I think that is where I began to loose interest in Go-Bots and started focusing more on Transformers. I couldn't stand the rock lords toys. I do understand your point about stealth though.
@@gridlo In their rock form they could be thrown at a kid you didn't like, and when they burst into tears and ran off to tell your mum, you could transform it back into a robot and claim they were a liar.
The GoBots story actually sounds pretty interesting to me. I think GoBots should be given a second chance with Transformers. They showed good potential! I have some good ideas.
Arguably the only reason that it hasn't happened outside of Fun Publications is the confused tangle of rights that Challenge of the Gobots continuity exists in (the Gobots IP is Hasbro's, but the original toy modes belong to Bandai and the cartoon itself was swallowed up by AOL/Time-Warner). That didn't stop Jim Sorenson from giving us synopses of a virtual Season 2, or having universe-hopping refugees from Gobotron show up in Beast Wars: Uprising, but a more prominent crossover would either need a lot of collaboration and signoffs, or involve a similar-but-distinct Gobots universe. Until then, we still have our homages such as Fracture....
I think the Michael Bay movies (or at least the tie-in comics) took some inspiration from the old Gobot cartoon. The relationship between Optimus & Megatron is pretty similar to that of Leader-1 & Cy-Kill in that they used to be friends until one of them got jellous cause their master favored one over the other. Also, The Fallen is rather similar to a Gobot character called The Evil One. I would like if the Gobots were used more in modern Transformers media. Gobotron could be a colony world for Cybertron
Gobots has just made their big comeback, in the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special, and Gobots are officially alive in the MCU, not only do we see a guy dressed like Cykill next to Jack Sparrow, but Drax even mentions his cousin was killed a Gobot
This reminds me of the American Dad episode where Steve dresses as Cy-Kill and lashes out when someone calls him a Transformer and he says something like "Transformers are for children. I am a Go-Bot"
Seems like ever since the release of the first gobots dvd, along with the other two dvd releases and the new gobots (machine robo) toys, a lot of people are giving gobots a second chance. That’s awesome. Lately, I see more love for the gobots and less “gobots are the k-mart transformers” kind of stuff. Being that gobots was one of my favorite shows and toys back then, it makes me happy to see the change of heart people are having for the gobots.
Great video! The Go-Bots don't get the love they really deserve. In most households in the 80's, for every one large diaclone sourced Transformer, most of us had 3-5 Go-Bots. While they didn't compete with the diaclone toys in style, they were much better than the mini autobots with their die cast parts. Hannah Barbara cartoon troupes honestly hurt the line as much as anything. While Transformers focused heavily on serious characters like Optimus Prime, Go-Bots loaded up the Scooter stupidity and had Masters of the Universe level incompetent villains. Megatron seemed a conceivable threat, Cy-Kill did not. Still, the toys were, despite their simplicity, well conceived, fun to play with, and very durable.
The gobots are pretty underrated and shouldn’t get the hate they deserve. I agree I’m pretty sure that crappy Hannah Barbara cartoon is what drove the gobots down the gutter.
This was to be their downfall considering what they did to Mighty Orbots, I wish that show had the light of more episodes than having been shot down mid season
I didn't mind GoBots back in the day. They transformed, looked decent and were no worse than the mini-Autobots, for the most part. And they were cheap, so you could fill out your Transformer ranks pretty easily to have large scale battles. Most kids I know did the same thing. In 'The Toys That Made Us' TF episode, one guy says he got a GoBot from his dad and he tossed it into the fire. That guy was an idiot if that's true. First, never through away a toy. I shouldn't have to explain why. Second, if you really don't like the toy or character, make him fodder for your better toys during play. Even broken toys that looked robotic could serve as dead bodies to litter the battlefield of your living room or bedroom. After all, maybe they weren't quite dead, but were crawling across the carpet, torso broken and missing an arm, toward your unsuspecting heroes.
Vangelus I kinda wanna get into GoBots cuz of those CyKill pics you took on twitter. I like how dumb they look but I get no emotional twinge from them. Guess I should watch them cartoon stories.

Really wouldn't of been too hard either back in the day with doing a crossover as Hasbro bought out the Gobot franchise in the early 90's, they even used the name Leader 1 in the Transformers Armada with one of the mini cons. Personally loved both franchise growing up, even had a load of the toys and some of the Rock Lords too :D
Cy-kil: "Get the repair crews out, and have my Thruster prepared" Y'know. Taken out of context. That quote from Battle of the Rocklords sounds filthy. lol
You know..I'm just gonna say it, I liked them both. As a kid I immediately picked up any and all transforming robots, they were my thing, and still are.
I read the 2018 Gobots comic from IDW a time ago, basically it reinvented 90% of the cartoon lore, mixed it up with a 60s movie and the ending it´s a mindblower
I know this was an April Fool's day joke, but this was actually really interesting. I think I still have one of the 2003 Transformers: Go-Bots line, the one that the clip you used actually shows transforming, lying around in a box in my attic...
Damn! This is one of those times I REALLY wish a Chris McFeely video had been held off for just a tiiiiiny bit longer. For those interested in a small expansion, IDW would publish a Go-Bots comic mere months after this, where they were built by humans, created a gigantic world literally built around ours, revolted, flew off into space and then decided to seed the multiverse with cybertronic life forms modelled after themselves. "Optimised versions," they said. YES TRANSFORMERS THROUGHOUT THE MULTIVERSE ARE ACTUALLY THE DESCENDANTS OF GO-BOTS!!
I could tell right away based on the narraration that this was an April Fools joke. As a long time GoBots fan, that's disappointing but I'm glad to see that it still turned out to be a quite informative and well done video. The downside of that though is that it leaves me wanting more.
I still have fond memories of the Go Bots despite having both toy lines I always preferred their show. I even saw the Rock Lord movie in theaters but have never seen Transformers The Movie. When I played with them Leader-1 was a co-leader/2nd in command to Optimus Prime. They stand side by side on my shelf to this day.
Believe it or not, my introduction to the GoBots actually came from a videocassette I owned in my childhood. That video contained two GoBots episodes: Trident's Triple Threat, and Doubleganger. And apparently, those two episodes entertained me just fine. Once I got older and started getting an interest in animation, I decided to watch the Gobots show itself; all 65 episodes of it. My main reason for watching the show was to observe how overshadowed it was by Transformers, but apparently, I still enjoyed the show as actual entertainment. I even ended up getting two favorite characters of the show; Scooter, who I found absolutely cute and decided was one of my favorite Frank Welker voices, and Small Foot, who I will have to complain was severely underused. I wish the show had more episodes that starred Small Foot. There were still enough that I cannot keep count of how many, but somehow, I am wishing there were more. But you know what? I actually like the GoBots show on its own. Even though I do think Transformers is the better robots story, I honestly would not mind watching multiple GoBots episodes. I don't know how other people feel about how Hasbro is treating the GoBots now, but I am just happy they allowed all 65 episodes (and the Rock Lords movie) to be watchable on DVD. That would be just fine with me, as long as it means anyone who likes the GoBots can watch as many episodes as they want.
Machine Men were the first transformers, without them the Transformers brand would be less than nothing outside of US. only a fool would try to downgrade them honestly. Both IP's are part and parcel of the same multiverse. Why piss off part of the fan base to promote a very biased opinion.
Actually Hasbro bought out the IP rights themselves and made it part of the multiverse. Even though its a pretty much a dead IP, Hasbro in its own way is keeping it alive as a part of its multiverse.
I was actually more into Go-Bots then I was Transformers as a kid, probably because my parents just so happened to buy me more of that merchandise without thinking about it. I have my VHS copy of the first couple episodes standing next to Transformers the Movie.
Thank you for making this more than just a gag. I didn't realize that the cheap transforming robots with friction-motors that I'd get as a kid were actually Go-Bot-related.
Ugh finally someone said it. I'm glad the patreon crowd got to you and convinced you to make the change. After a year on the deep, vast history on the GoBots, I mean you could do several segments on Puzzler alone his story is so rich and intriguing, maybe then do MASK ? Changing focus completely is the best way to keep a fan base happy.
I liked GoBots better than Transformers. There...I said it. Feels good to get it out. The main reason was that GoBots were pretty perfectly in scale with Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, so they could actually blend in and be vehicles in disguise, especially if you had some of the Hot Wheels playsets. Transformers on the other hand were all over the place in scale. Look at Soundwave, Starscream, Megatron, and Bumblebee....it's madness I tell you! Madness!!
My dad has a Gobot. It looks like hound from transformers g1, so i played with him and i call it hound. For now i know that's not him. But i know his real name now. Its Geeper Creeper.

Cy-kil: "Get the repair crews out, and have my Thruster prepared"
Y'know. Taken out of context. That quote from Battle of the Rocklords sounds filthy. lol
You know..I'm just gonna say it, I liked them both. As a kid I immediately picked up any and all transforming robots, they were my thing, and still are.
me too...anything that transforms, be a legit product or its rip-off or any other obscure toyline without a tie-in cartoon, I'd buy one in a heartbeat
3:47 I saw that RoGun thing at a local vintage toy store (that store is my heaven)
Its not coptor its GYRO ROBO!!!
Thanks Robot Chicken.
Yeah, look up Zybots, just do it
I read the 2018 Gobots comic from IDW a time ago, basically it reinvented 90% of the cartoon lore, mixed it up with a 60s movie and the ending it´s a mindblower
Wow! I didn't know that. This video is so informative. I am into Transformers and the toy collections.
I know this was an April Fool's day joke, but this was actually really interesting. I think I still have one of the 2003 Transformers: Go-Bots line, the one that the clip you used actually shows transforming, lying around in a box in my attic...
12:17 Yeesssssssssssssssssssss
I'd like to see a series where Cy-kill and Starscream team up for some slapstick comedy
As a kid I knew Go-Bots were dead when they released a movie about rocks.
The basics on cykill please
I could tell right away based on the narraration that this was an April Fools joke. As a long time GoBots fan, that's disappointing but I'm glad to see that it still turned out to be a quite informative and well done video. The downside of that though is that it leaves me wanting more.
I actually am interested in checking out the Challenge of the GoBots cartoon one day, if I ever can. :)
4:55 WEEE
I died laughing when i realized that this was an april fools joke.
RIP big man. Gone but not forgotten.
When I saw this I was afraid it would just be some half-assed joke but no it's actually good and informative!
That would be just fine with me, as long as it means anyone who likes the GoBots can watch as many episodes as they want.
quite the april fools
While an april fool's joke it is still as high quality and informative as your other viedos. I wouldn't mind seeing viedos on other gobots viedos.
Wow, my childhood toys
I didn’t know it’s called Gobots in US
It’s awesome and nostalgic
This is a very nice twist on the april fools joke video. Props.
Gobots are part of the transformers universe but a good Aprils first joke :D
Machine Men were the first transformers, without them the Transformers brand would be less than nothing outside of US. only a fool would try to downgrade them honestly. Both IP's are part and parcel of the same multiverse. Why piss off part of the fan base to promote a very biased opinion.
Oh yeah I remember reading somewhere on TFWiki that IDW officially added Gobots to the Transformers Multiverse or something didn’t they lol?
Actually Hasbro bought out the IP rights themselves and made it part of the multiverse. Even though its a pretty much a dead IP, Hasbro in its own way is keeping it alive as a part of its multiverse.
ShadowDarter huh. Cool.
ShadowDarter definitely wouldn’t have expected that from HASBRO of all people/company’s/whatever’s.
This was amazing! Very informative for an April Fools joke. Bravo!
I was kinda hoping this was gonna be a new series, despite being an April Fools joke, I did learn some new stuff about the go-bots from this.
Best quality YT april fools joke! What I did was awful.
I love your voice
Haha your april fools joke almost gave me a heart attack!
What, no mention of Cy-Kill getting slagged every time he shows up in a Transformers comic?
I was actually more into Go-Bots then I was Transformers as a kid, probably because my parents just so happened to buy me more of that merchandise without thinking about it. I have my VHS copy of the first couple episodes standing next to Transformers the Movie.
YESS!
Thank you for making this more than just a gag. I didn't realize that the cheap transforming robots with friction-motors that I'd get as a kid were actually Go-Bot-related.
I WISH THIS WASN'T A JOKE
Ugh finally someone said it. I'm glad the patreon crowd got to you and convinced you to make the change. After a year on the deep, vast history on the GoBots, I mean you could do several segments on Puzzler alone his story is so rich and intriguing, maybe then do MASK ?
Changing focus completely is the best way to keep a fan base happy.
If gobots were still arround, we would even have bay bots!
HAHAHA! GASP! not funny. Michael might hear you.
I remember as a young kid ,maybe 6/7 years old maybe there was always kids running round school claiming to have seen a transformers vs gobots film.
Maybe you'll cover Bots Master next year?
Lord Sathien it's lazer time!
Chris you son of a gun, you put so much effort into a joke that I actually got kind of interested in Go Bots!
Good April joke! :D
Madness!!
Okay, but when are you planning to cover the Brave series? That's definitely gonna be the next big thing.
I want Transformer's style knock-off rename for the Mechanoids and the Symmetrical Docking from GGG.
Haha, well played sir. Happy April Fools Day!
My dad has a Gobot. It looks like hound from transformers g1, so i played with him and i call it hound. For now i know that's not him. But i know his real name now. Its Geeper Creeper.
He’s Creep Creep now.
An April Fool's joke I actually want to watch!
