I finished the story mode and man they were so damn close to making a perfect modern mk story mode. It is phenomenal the first half and then quickly drops the ball with the crap NRS constantly does. It feels like they dropped half their writers and just thought, “bring everyone together and do fight and member berries.” So disappointing..
Agreed. This was basically just a retelling of MK11 aftermath. Not to go to far into spoiler territory but this whole game could've just been a 5 to 10 min cutscene at the end of aftermath to explain the route they are going to take.

My fear is though with everything they are obviously going to try to do going forward it could just become way bigger and more confusing if they don't take the time to condense it, reign themselves in more and stick with final outcomes without more retcons 1 or 2 games later.
As of now I am in "probably should've done a hard reboot" camp. They could've cleaned up and polished a lot plot issues and story beats that way. But that's just me.

Glad that they included the physical edition. I heard that some collector Editions did digital codes instead.
Hope you enjoy the story with their ups and downs. I personally liked it a lot, it felt really fresh after the mess in MK11. It's not perfect and I have some issues with it, but I'm happy with the result either way. I see a lot of potential with this "new era", but you can never fully trust NRS so, we'll see.

I personally liked MK1’s story a lot more than MK11 and MKX. It’s not perfect by any means, but it was interesting for the most part.

Am I the only person who looked at Snakes chair and thought Raphael's head was on it?
Personally I kinda like the Blue Steel/Gold/Krimson ninja skins from MKX since they kinda look like what they'd wear in a Bruce Timm/Paul Dini style animated MK series. I love those looks on those guys.
Altho Injustice 1 Scorpion is best Scorpion look fite me mortal.
If you ever see them unmasked, like when Scorpion cuts their face off, it looks VERY Batman Beyond.

I look forward to seeing what you'll say about the story. I imagine that even with it being better than MK 11 (about as high a bar as the floor people walk on, tbf), it still will have some wasted plotentials that would be interesting to explore, especially with the third act
I watched the story mode for the game, and it absolutely has a lot of “Wasted Plotentials”. I won’t spoil it, but while I was mostly pleased with the first half of the story, you really felt every second drag during the second half. It was very painful at certain points to watch, especially when the NRS writers fell into the same pitfalls I’d seen in the previous installments of the franchise.
@@Blyegh Eh, I don't mind it, I already saw the events of the Story Mode early, and it feels like its lows are at the very least not as low as MK11's, but the second half of the game really did feel like it lost steam and fell into the trappings. At the very least, I didn't want to pull my hair out like I did with the wasted potential that was the entirety of MK11.
It was nice they at least learned one thing from a The4thSnake vid and (SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT)
have the final chapter not be consigned to a singular character, rather actually letting us choose who to go into battle with, but then it also felt like it wanted to be what Armageddon's final battle was about, but rather than it being the earned story beats up till the last game, it was the equivalent of NRS throwing a bunch of action figures into a playset and smacking the figures against each others while Across the Spider-verse plays in the background. I am curious what they intend to do for the story mode outside of their stinger to tease what they intend to do

I enjoy videos like this from you. Simple feedback toward things like these. As much as Scorpion is my favorite character in MK, you are correct. I think Boon took that "story mode is no good" video seriously.
I hope you find more things to enjoy within the story. I rolled my eyes and called out some nonsense for a handful of things but id say this was the best MK story since Armageddons Konquest mode.
I wasn't annoyed like in MK9, bored like in MKX, or confused and frustrated in MK11.
I Was enjoying myself while still calling out some issues like Injustice 2. I hope you enjoy it much

I've just watched the new game's story mode and I can't wait to see what Snake thinks about it.
It's really annoying how gaming content farms are just able to upload the entire game to the internet right on release.
I don't have a console but I'd imagine it really ruins the experience of people who waited years and paid to complete it for themselves.

I know it’s like 4 hours after the fact, but doesn’t having the game open usually slow the install speed? I remember that would happen with stuff like DOOM (2016) or Battlefront (2015) where the games’ installation speeds would slow because I was playing them while they were downloading.

As for the story mode, i’m 50/50 on it. I enjoyed the first half. The second, not so much. I would say tho that i enjoyed it a lot more than both MK11 and MKX story modes.
The second half felt super rushed.

I personally prefer the design for fire god Liu Kang in in MK11, it felt more imposing, more elegant, more godlike, the new design is fine but I find it a bit boring compared to how he looked in MK11, I know blue is more of raiders thing but they could've mixed red and blue I feel

It was a mess in the second half. The first half was pretty decent. I personally thought it was more enjoyable than MK11 and MKX story modes.

Pretty much. You get the towers (arcade mode), multiplayer and various practice modes, with the initial download. Story Mode and Invasion you *have to* wait for. It's ridiculous that people have allowed games to reach this level.

The first 2/3 of the story was really good, I liked it, except for the tournament being speedran, Kuai being Scorpion and Sun Zero being an understandably frustrated character to a cartoonish unredeemable one. Other than that, chapters 1-10 are pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty good.
But man 11-15 are just trash. Awful. Garbage. This timeline stuff has such a DC feel to it. It all just feels like flashpoint paradox or marvel what-if garbage.
In the beginning, I could understand subzero. He owns a warrior clan that never sees combat, and for his first fight in years he’s staging his whole clan losing to two farmers. He wasn’t just a flat out evil character, and while hot tempered he was still an understandable character, then they ruin it by saying he killed his dad and then trying to have him kill Kuai.
Chapters 11-15 should’ve been about chapters 1-10. Also, they base the story around you playing as one character and winning 5 or 6 times in a row. Who you play as should be determined by the story, the story shouldn’t be determined by that character needing to win 5 times in a row. I think the Jerrod thing was rushed. Everything 11-15 is rushed. Had they just stuck to the story they set up in chapters 1-10 and not had the alternate timeline stuff, they might not have forgotten that Ashrah, Baraka and Reptile existed.
Worst part is, I would’ve forgiven it all if they had character creation and more than one game mode to play with friends. Given the end of the game there’s no reason to not be able to create your own character for casual matches. The premium edition was $116, that’s the most I’ve spent on a game before, and now that the story is over, if I want to play with friends the literal only option is still 1v1’s. No tag teams to play with 3 friends, no chess combat for variety in game modes. This was $116 for 2/3 of a good story and 1 game mode for friends. Invasion isn’t bad I guess.
Sorry this is so long, I hope at least someone read it, I just had a lot to say, and I didn’t even say it all, I’d literally have to make a rant video to cover it all, but that’s why I’m here, I know Snake will call out this story for what it should’ve been. It had a good start and I was open to change, but they really just shit the bed in the end.
agreed, they could've left it at that he's glad his father did not survive his injuries instead of Bi-Han purposefully letting him die, and betraying what he believes in quickly was dumb, hell, even noob saibot wouldnt have been this dumb
should've stuck with the 2 aftermath timelines instead of all endings are canon.
Hanzo being younger that Kuai and Bi-Han etc was dumb, though all ladder endings fit

Just finished the story and I’m sad to say but Mortal Kombat is a joke now. At first the story started out promising but turned into a mess at the end. Because now there are multiple timelines reality now. They should have called this game MK 12.
