Takeda being Hanzo is one i really like ngl because even the ancient Scorpion from Conquest was literally named Takeda haha.
I know they apparently confirmed shortly after that Takeda is indeed the original one in terms of identity, but eh, could also just be a red herring, idk, introducing a young Hanzo kinda does lead to tons of speculation. I really love the Lin Kuei Grandmaster as Noob Saibot theory, didn't really consider it until you brought it up. Could work very well and could be a neat callback to the era when Noob wasn't confirmed as Bi-Han. Alternatively maybe the new young Hanzo could be Noob Saibot.

Would have preferred an ancient Mortal Kombat myself, starring the Great Kung Lao, and ancestors of the other Earthrealm characters. We have cool histories for a lot of them, they could use them to create new characters.
Honestly, I had a Scorpion-Subzero are siblings idea, except it was in those ancient times, where two siblings in the Lin Kuei eventually become enemies and one forms the Shirai Ryu by leaving for Japan, and the other becomes the ancestor of Sub Zero's family by marrying a Cryomancer from outworld.@@ETHOS444
I have a wild, out-there theory about the game: what if they release what would seem like a different game, and call it Mortal Kombat 2, whose roster is primarily characters not found in this one, but if you have it and Mortal Kombat 1 (maybe by reading the data on your console or something) you can use the characters from one game in the other, with an extra bit of story mode, and it's called Mortal Kombat 12? I mean, it's a ridiculous way to do such a thing, and a weird marketing tactic, but it's still so odd to me that they would name it Mortal Kombat 1 when it's not a fresh start, and the narrative expects you to know the previous lore.
Of course, thinking about this idea, I wouldn't know how it would work for the companion game, especially since it would be a bit of a tell if they released any MK game that didn't have any of the characters of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, or Raiden (any one of them missing is already a noteworthy thing that has only been done rarely before, but all of them? Not likely), but including them in such an instance would be redundant. But I did say my theory was out there. It's dumb, but I wanted to mention what had been on my mind. Besides, some way to re-orient and have the game name officially be Mortal Kombat 12 would be nice, so much so that I'm coming up with outlandish ideas as to how that could happen.

My theory for Hanzo is that he's is living a happy life with his wife and son and nothing bad will ever happen to them because Liu Kang is always checking if they're okay

A theory I had (excluding any spoilers in MK1) is that Bi-Han becomes a villain because (some movie synergy aside) he was never ego checked, nor morally humbled by events like Mythologies. And from the official bio, because he’s the Grandmaster, he has all the more reasons to be corrupted without any sort of major event happening in this New Era of Peace until now. So, I don’t mind he’s a villain, it kinda makes sense.
I think Kuai Liang will establish the Shirai Ryu, it just makes too much sense for that not to happen should Bi-Han turn heel.
As for Hanzo? No clue, either he’s Takada, or he’ll be hinted at later. Maybe he becomes Noob down the line, OR maybe he becomes the 2nd Sub-Zero down the line in a future game.
An idea I had for Noob is that Smoke becomes him down the line somehow.

I actually like the idea of a new Noob where you’re not sure who they are. It’d be nice to have a MK character with a mask that has some bit of mystery to them.
One theory I have, is that there are fix points in time (similar to canon events from the Spiderverse) Liu Kang REALLY wanted to make a timeline where everyone had a happier life (aside from Shang and Shao) people get really mad saying "oh, Liu played favorites but he still made Baraka and Mileena tarkatans". I think it's obvious that he altered time to make Baraka a respectful merchant as his bio states, and made Mileena the actual empress (once Sindel is gone) so she can have a happy life, even making Sindek good again so Kitana and Mileena can enjoy having a caring mother. The thing is, I don't think Liu Kang created the tarkat disease, it was made by eather Shang Tsung, or it's a fix point in time, similar to the Scorpion vs Sub-Zero rivalry, Reptile being aside from his race, Jerrod's death. There are things that are meant to happen, even though Liu Kang made his best to avoid them

I also have theory why current/new era Sub Zero Bi Han is seemingly evil and probably will turn evil later on based on his and scorpion kuai liang bio.
Basically in all 3 timeline: original, alternative and current/new era Bi Han was evil, but in the previous 2 timelines MK mythology happens.
We see in there he kills Hanzo without hesitate but after quan chi reveals his true objective, he looks bummed and then raiden scolds him, later he tried to redeem himself by taking back Shinnok amulet.
Along the way he met Hanzo's revenant version Scorpion and felt guilty for killing him and indirectly causes his clans demise. Then he spares Sareena and had a very short interaction with her before she got shot down by Shinnok.
After he goes back to raiden with the amulet he ask about the darkness within his heart, raiden confirms it and he also dont know what will happen to Bi Han once he dies (which would have him reborn as noob saibot). I believe this is the point where he turns good.
With all *official* information we got, its seems liu kang got rid all the bad guys or alter their fate from becoming what was they supposed to be in the previous timeline in this new era, thus Bi Han never goes through his experiences in MK mythology, making him stays somewhat evil.
I also kinda feels like this new era Bi Han is what if him becoming Noob Saibot without having reborn from NetherRealm or resurrected by quan chi.

I mean bi Han was never directly evil, in the previous two timeliness he was morally gray in that he would kill for the sake of the clan but didn't outright murder of his own volition. The darkness in his heart is something many people have but by releasing shinnok (albeit unintentionally) he exacerbated that evil through accidental alignment.
Bi han had a level of morality that let him keep his mind in the netherrealm without further corruption. The way he looks horrified at Quan chi showing the shirai Ryu genocide (mk9) coupled with his terrified denial made it seem as though he had never wanted to nor would he kill an innocent. Also kuai Liang always spoke of his brother having a heart behind the scenes.
Noobs introduction and bi Hans transformation into him was partly a result of prior action and his redemption chances being cut short. Noob became an exaggerated version of all bi Hans negative aspects many of his voice lines in mk11 and his references to "quan chis creations being hard to destroy) after the soulnado incident make it seem like much of his positive aspects were removed through both the netherrealm corruption and Quan chi using magic.
I don't think they are going to turn Bi Han into Noob in this timeline simply because they just don't have anyone to take Sub's mantle

This might be a unpopular opinion but I kind of wish they would move on past the characters we've already had for 3 decades. It would've been cool if they just expanded on 3D-era characters or created new ones.
I just want to see the story progress instead of the same group of characters taking on a similar task every game. MkX is the only modern MK that progresses the story.
Mortal Kombat is long overdue for this
The only issue I have with this is-due to my frustration of them never telling the stories of the OG characters the way *I* want them to-I don't think the foundation is good to tell a good story. MK1 is setting a foundation that I don't give two shits to care for any story based off of.
Saying "M1K" is actually kind of a cool way to distinguish this game from the original Mortal Kombat.
So, the game's almost out, and we'll soon know if NR has learned from their past mistakes.

The game should have been called MK12, not MK1, after you play the story you will see. Not realy a spoiler I think.
I love a lot of the theories, I have one where it's a twist on a twist, kuai Liang is actually smoke but his father was disappointed that his son had no abilities so when the father destroyed the Shirai Ryu, he adopted the young hanzo and favourited him and asked a sorcerer to mind wipe the two so that after smoke thinks he is the adopted son and hanzo is kuai. Sorcerer being Quan Chi. And that Bi Han knows about this but refuses to tell them both
that's slightly confusing in a good way but would make for a good story

I’m more interested in gameplay and new mechanics than story because that’s what will decide wether this game stays afloat or not, when I’ve made my decision on if I like the gameplay or not. I’ll then play the story

Kung Jin actually exists in this timeline, he was mentioned by Kung Lao in an intro.

Now that all of story came out, I think despite some faults,it came out the best amongst all NRS MK games.
Only faults would come from is introducing Armageddon despite the timeline literally just starting out and not being developed properly.
It’s a step up from previous mk stories that’s for certain but they can’t continue the idea of multiverses and other timelines for now

Having viewed Mortal Kombat 1's story, I will not speak in regards to any spoilers, but for the most part, how do you feel about the narrative in Mortal Kombat 1, if you viewed all cutscenes and/or played the game, Snake?
Bi han and Kuai liang's father returns as a wraith and armed with a slipper and belt he beats the shit out of his elder son.

What if hanzo is liu kangs secret weapon, kind of like how he was chosen by the elder gods in the 3d era.
On the topic of Takeda, Ermac, and Quan Chi, I have a theory that these MK fighters in M1K KP1 were meant to be MK11 KP3 characters. Takeda being highly requested and the most liked Kombat Kid would have secured his spot if they did a KP3. Ermac had a new outfit in MK11, that we only ever saw in the Krypt because he was neither playable nor a background asset throughout the entire story mode. And Quan Chi of course because he’s the guy that set most of NRS MK’s events into motion so of course he would have to show up in MK11.
But then of course they stopped supporting the game. They may have already had a framework for the characters that never came to MK11, so why not reuse them for the new game M1K?
Why not add them to the base roster then? If you're planning a DLC character during the previous game, then why wouldn't you just continue the work and add the character to the next game's base roster? I don't see why you'd just make them DLC again, for the next game. That's like you're at work, and all day long you're planning to finish up by doing this one last task that you haven't gotten around to doing. But then at the end of the day, you don't find the time to actually do that thing, and so you leave without having done it. The next day you go to work, and instead of starting off by doing the thing you wanted to do the previous day, you yet again delay it, and tell yourself that you're going to do it at the very end of the day. Or like you've been working hard for months on end, and then you finally get to enjoy a vacation, and you book a flight to Austria, right? When you get there, you go to a pub in the snowy mountains, you sit down, and you order a huge pint of German beer. You wouldn't then throw photographs of your grandma in the beer, would you? I mean, who does that? Nobody. So that's why I think you're wrong.

2:39 That made me realise that they could have just made Frost playable. Like, in a setting where Kuai Liang is gone or is still Cyber-Sub-Zero for some reason, Johnny and Sonya learn about Frost and since they fought against and alongside a Sub-Zero, they recruit her. With no master to teach her cryomancy (if we go for Kuai Liang being gone), she's inexperienced when it comes to her powers and has to adapt and learn ways to make it all work.
+ there could have been some tension with the other Kombat Kids, although that would've been a bit redundant with Kung Jin's personality I guess soooo...
She would have been the perfect kombat kid, with kuai being alive or not.
Have SZ send her with Cassie(SF), Jin(monks), and Takeda(SR) as a way to humble her brash nature.
Conflicts would come from her being an asshole + past clan beef the shaolin and Shirai Ryu. Her beef with Cassie from their interaction in the comics + reference to Frost being aggro to Sonya in deadly alliance for no reason.
Whether the experiment is successful or she turns on the other 3, not sure which would be better storywise.

They all represent Earthrealm's defense forces and future.
Realising all this could make Frost humbler or a bit nicer, they can all somewhat relate to one another.
And if she fails to realise all this, she'd turn wrong like we are used to.

I’m thinking Bi-Han may die again which is unfortunate and he’ll be Noob. Hanzo will replace him as Subzero assuming you don’t have to be Lin Kuei to have power of ice. Or maybe Hanzo will become Noob somehow, maybe Bi-Han kills him in the next game.
Theory with knowledge of the game and its contents: The next Mk is setting up the kombat kids with a different line-up.
Takeda - Hanzo
Cassie - Sonya
Kung Jin - Shujinko
Jaqchi - no idea
While I have no evidence for sonya, the fact that both shujinko and hanzo are not only boys but also being trained leads me to believe that a sorta successor to the Kombat kids are coming.
As for the girls, I have no idea. I see sonya replacing Cassie mainly because of the fact soyna just isnt here, and with heavy doubt they'd leave her out the next game. They could change her into a teen and set her with the ninja and monk. But more importantly, with leaks of cassie in KP2 already, maybe we'll see something later down the line confirming, adding to speculation, or down-right debunking this.
Just finished watching the story and they did alot of things I like but even more things that I think are stupid, I think it's better than mk11 and mkx but those weren't really a high standard. I hope we get a critique of mk1 sooner than we did with mk11 so I hope your not waiting on the dlc again
As a fan from a distance only playing random mortal kombat games. The story seams to be an after thought because it is mad inconsistent. Then doesnt want to come up with new ideas or territory or characters so reboots and alternative timelines come in. They need scorpion and subzero as mascots and to fight or join together no matter what in the end. So they have to change the story etc. I honestly would love more emphesis on Reptile, Smoke , Rain , Ermac like smoke vs rain. Build up another rivalery and new mascots, qnd hype them up.

If NRS was even remotely smart, they could of adopted the original Sub-Zero from MK Conquest as Noob Saibot or have him being his own character like he was in the same exact show where he was an oil man who was sealed away by Shao Kahn himself with the two guardian statues guarding his tomb.
It will be fun to watch all the cutscenes later. I can't be bothered to spend money and invest my time into MK 1.

Here’s an idea regarding hanzo being an ancestor. What if Bihan kills Kuia Liang and he becomes Noob instead of Bihan, and hanzo comes back to take the mantle of scorpion?
I haven't seen the leaks, so here is my theory: Hanzo will appear like a force ghost to guide Kuai Liang. Its like Hanzo is one the beings that remembers the previous continuities, so is that his way keeping his promise of protecting Kuai Liang, but this time, guiding him as the new Scorpion.
If only this theory video came out weeks ago because once you play MK1, NRS will leave you confused, angry, dispointed, happy, and annoyed.

Here's a thing between your "theories" and MatPat's: he treats his theories as fact and nothing else can exist while you actually use the definition of theories as just speculation. But maybe we are so used to how Mat uses theory so this is why people get mad nowadays.

Matpat has never treated his theories as facts and goes on the record even years after certain episodes to say its just fun to find connections and to connect dots regardless if it was intended. My theory is that Lui Kang has unintentionally created certain events due to his memories. Like the Baraka disease infecting mileena to turn her into what Lui Kang knows her as.

Hanzo is Takeda in this new timeline
Hanzo as Takeda seems more likely to me. It's far enough out there but still tied to Scorpion in some way.
