An accurate presentation - to a point. The Houston Police Department deliberately prodded and provoked these soldiers until some lost military discipline. Mainstream Texas political opinion in July-August 1917 was strongly against the training and garrisoning of colored soldiers in Texas. In the aftermath of the mutiny, Texas lost the political argument when the Wilson Administration required the training of colored soldiers at every camp in the nation. But the 3rd Battalion of the 24th Infantry -- and our nation -- lost much more. The Houston Mutiny is a story about the consequences of a community united pushing selfish unrealistic politics, not of random individuals acting badly.
The blacks were reacting to phantoms of their own imagination, the fear of a white mob that there never was. In response they took up arms and killed whites, firing indiscriminately into buildings and homes. No sympathy for them.
The Houston Police Department's ranks are now thinning out, as are the ranks of all PDs in the US. Very few want to go into law enforcement. And those who do are the bottom of the barrel 80% of the time.

The group marched through neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city, firing at houses with outdoor lights. They fired on a car with two white occupants, but let a second car with black occupants leave unharmed. They marched nearly two and a half miles, all the way to the San Felipe district, before they encountered any police officers. Two policemen were killed immediately, and one later died of wounds he had sustained. The soldiers stopped a car carrying two policemen, who were disarmed and shot. A few blocks later, an open-topped car carrying a man in an olive-drab uniform approached the column. Believing this to be the uniform of a Houston mounted policeman, the soldiers opened fire only to discover later that they had killed Captain Joseph W. Mattes of the Illinois National Guard. The killing of a military officer drove home the seriousness of their actions and the pending consequences. Mattes' body was found mutilated to the point of being nearly unrecognizable. By the time the shooting had stopped, 17 people were dead (four police officers, nine civilians, and two soldiers).[12] One soldier and a police officer later died from wounds sustained during the riot, and one soldier died from wounds sustained during his capture the next day. All of the wounds received by soldiers the night of the riot were the result of accidental shootings by fellow soldiers. -military-history.fandom.com/wiki/Houston_riot_of_1917

But it bends toward JUSTICE. ...what goes around, comes around!
@zutrue, as an artist and historian your statement is truth. So many quote Scripture and shy away from "deeper truths" -only wanting to absorb the nicer words of The Word. But Jesus himself so stated "that I didn't come in the world to judge it, but to save it". I see so many people making judgement calls on these men . And who are we to do this sin? It is written that "The Lord shines down on the evil and the good." That's what Jesus meant when He stated for ALL to seek "deeper truths". So far I've read many of these responses and have not seen this happening. The fact of the matter is that those spirits returned back to The Creator who created them and wouldn't be astonishing to actually see them in "paradise" because of their contribution as guardians of a nation that man didn't create, but a Nation that God Himself created. Yes @zutrue, "what goes around does comes around"...matching the Scripture "what you sow; that will you reap." All laws that God established, not men... He also states that "No man can judge another" and yet I'm viewing a lot of judgmental voices. Really?? In a modern sense of The Savior I embrace your words, sir The arch of the moral universe is long. But it bends toward Justice...what goes around, comes around. And Texas was not the better for it, that being "the former landmark" for that tragic history.
Referring to them as buffalo soldiers seems racist.this term arose from the American Indians reckoning the negros appearance ie their colour and hair et seq was like the buffalo.however the commentator here has been very selective in how he has related this event and is yet again framed in a deceptive race grifter narrative.

For salvation, we just need to follow the way they did it in Acts? They repented and were baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and received the gift of the Holy Ghost, Acts 2:38! Here's why! The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. If we are to follow him, we must do the same thing. Death= repentance, Burial = baptism, and resurrection = being filled and rising again from the dead and walking in the newness of life. That's what Acts 2:38 is. It harmonizes with Matthew 28:19, and all the other salvation scriptures. We can't pick and choose which scriptures we like or dislike. We must obey the gospel, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that OBEY NOT THE GOSPEL of our Lord Jesus Christ... Matthew 7:21-23, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOTH THE WILL OF MY FATHER which is in Heaven. St John 3:3-5, EXCEPT for a man be born of WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, he cannot enter the kingdom of GOD. We can't come up with our own gospel. Galatians 1:8-9, But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. Don't be cursed. One way for all people. Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritans. Our salvation has to match up with the scriptures, and no scriptures on the subject can be taken away. Eternity is TOO long to be WRONG! St, John 5:39, search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. The gospels show what Christ has done on the cross for us. The book of Acts shows us the beginning of Christ's Church and how to enter the Church, obeying Acts 2:38. The letters were written to the Church to show us how to behave now that we are born again into the Church. It's better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction. Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, And they continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Don't get Titus 3:5 mixed up with James 2:14-26, about WORKS. One is a WORK of your OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS OR GOOD DEEDS, and the other is a WORK OF FAITH or OBEDIENCE TO GOD. If I buy you a cake and tell you to come get it, and you refuse to, then you won't have the cake even though it's been fully paid for. Christ set up the way, and we must come the way he set up to be saved or to receive it. Noah believed or had FAITH, BUT THEN WORKED TO BUILD THE ARK TO BE SAVED. LOT believe or had FAITH, BUT THEN OBEYED AND LEFT SODOM. This is why Jesus said, he that believes and is baptized shall be saved. They all harmonize together.
@@gigivazquez3451 If you really think only the Israelites will be saved, then you don't know the bible or God. Read Acts 2;38, the Hebrews at first, then read Acts the 8th chapter, the Samaritans, then Acts the 10th chapter, the Gentiles. In this church age, one way for all people. I'm not sure what God you serve or know, but the one God I know is not the author or confusion and would not have different ways to be saved which cause confusion. God made all people. he's no respecter of people. Acts 10:34-35, Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation, he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. John 6:39, All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. Titus 2:11, For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.
"This, you may be assured, is a negro, not an Indian war; and if it be not speedily put down, the south will feel the effects of it on their slave population before the end of the next season." Letter to President Jackson from US Army Gen. Thomas S. Jesup, 12/8/1836, 2nd Seminole War in Florida.

They killed an officer and fifteen people.
That's hearsay. Would you trust a person who tends to lie all the time? I hope not. Those people control you easily with stories and false documentation. Never trust them!
The reason their rank was not put on the headstone is they did not have any. Part of their sentence was loss of all rank and privileges.

Yet, a great deal of them have been covered up or minimized under the cover of national defense. Just admit that you don't know very much about American history, let alone American military history.
@@rickmoss6421 I’m aware about America’s many and I mean many war crimes; but the vast majority of servicemen serve with honor and distinction. Those few who proceed to violate the rules of war and the laws of man are wrong no matter what the circumstance; unnecessarily killing and rebellion is wrong. Those soldiers disgraced the uniform and have been punished accordingly.

So they were ready to go overseas to fight yet in a fight for their lives in 🇺🇸
The Hypocrisy of it all
Unfortunately many more were lynched, because they were so proud to fight, they continued to wear their uniforms after the war,in the south they sore them as a threat. Unfortunately
Why did they shoot civilians unarned its clear why they shot police who had beat them but civilians?
You know in the south entire white towns and cities would get together and lynch black people right? Those white people probably had been part of lynchings
Because
Accidentally
They had incidents with white civilians too throughout there time there it wasn't just Houston police

The Arch of the moral Universe is long. But it bends toward JUSTICE.
...what goes around, comes around!
THIS!!!
Nobody was innocent. Everyone played a role. It's unfortunate that an event like this happened.

That pertains only to the Chosen people of GOD,the Israelites
Titus 2:11, For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world.
Amen
