Great story and wisdom from Nolan Self ...... plz share this story to others. Every American needs to hear his story. Beautiful family and lovely wife.
Yes that was a beautiful story. Nolan had to have seen the worst humans can do to each other from war and probably racism yet has a beautiful soul. Very inspiring and everyone should see this.
He is gone as are so many of them and my generation is on its way out to join them. So therefore I take the time, this time, to salute them and their Truth, and my self as well because no one else will.

There are a lot of humble men stood on this Earth that have walked this Earth and died and are still living but much respect to this guy he is still humble to see that so many African-Americans have historically died for this country is is astounding

What beautiful people with such an important story to tell. My son is spending the summer with my mom out of state but when he comes home I want him to watch this. We need to listen to the stories of our elders. They are wise. I also believe that everyone who is able should serve at least one term in the military. I do not like how the military tosses folks aside after they don't need them anymore, but I come from a family with a long proud history of serving our country. When my brother left for basic training he was at risk of going down the wrong path. He came home a man. A good man. A good father and provider. And we all have a strong work ethic. I really loved this. RIP Mr. Self. Thank you.
Oh wow my dad was born in 1919 March. My daddy was part of them. He got out of the army being a 1st Sgt in WWII. This is an amazing story. Thank you for this . I wish I had pictures of my dad being in there. We only have one picture of my dad in the army. I miss him so much. He told us stories of his time in with them. His horse was named Nora she was beautiful he said. When he got out he was a farmer. The government then didn’t really take care of their veterans they way they should. We struggled but we had love and brought up with a Christian up bringing .
Having money doesnt make you rich... lack of money doesnt make you poor... when you have family and roots you have what it takes to love and respect others.. having family truely is a blessing
I'm so glad someone videoed this beautiful Veteran and his wife. Youngsters have no idea how far American culture as fallen away from this mans integrity.
I Served 2yrs in the Nebraska Air National Guard 1984-86, Nebraska Army National Guard 1986-2012 deployed to Bosnia Feb - Sept 2003 SFOR Rotation, Iraqi Freedom March 2006 thru June 2007( rotation 06-08) and Army Reserve March 2013 thru November 1 2016 upon my retirement of 31yrs service. I hope a young person will look at serving Active Duty or the Guard and Reserve to give back to this nation of all those men and women who have sacrifice their lives for keep this great nation free from tyranny and oppression. Such a BEAUTIFUL love story 💖 My parent's were married almost 70 years, my Chief was a Sargent in the Army. He is gone now but my Queen is 96 years young and still with us I am the 9 child of 13 from their union. Again, I LOVED hearing this LOVE STORY of truth💖💖💖💎
This man is America! I known many and now most are gone. Today’s youth have lost it. Respect, kindness, Discipline, obedience, hard work and ultimately Christ! Amen Mr. Self.
I've been crying this whole video. The love can be felt and gives me motivation to keep pushing on in these difficult times. Through it all we're still here! We owe our ancestors and elders our absolute best!! I am so thankful!
Mr.Self And mrs.Self were my neighbors when I was a child. I would see them anywhere and speak to them and they both were always pleasant. God Bless The Family
I salute you Buffalo Soldier! This is, by far, one of the best documentaries I've ever seen in my life. It is so moving--makes me proud. I am going to forward this to all of my family and friends.
Brought me to tears. Thank you Nolan Self for your service to your country. Thank you for sharing your story and your beautiful wife with us. Do you ever look at generations past with their struggles of either war, poverty, racism etc. (everything life throws at you to break your spirit) and think some generations are just better at overcoming adversity and struggle? They walk with dignity and pride. I am in awe. My dad was born in 1925 in Yorkshire, England, my mom in a little mining town on the south island of New Zealand called Westport in 1930. Growing up the phrase "carry on" was used a lot in my home. I find myself using that same phrase to describe these generations who overcome great struggles personally and as a country. With the life lessons learned safely tucked in their pockets but most of all with head held high and such dignity, they just "carry on" and make it look so effortless and simple.
What a honor to have heard First sergeant nolan speak this morning. I thank you for paving the way for all our brother and sisters in arms. Thank you my brother for all your many sacrifices and accomplishments. I've been serving in the US Air Force for almost 15 years. I'm a Master Sergeant select MSgt E7. Thank you again for paving the way.
I appreciate this and the many other story's from all the different LEGEND'S THAT SHARE THERE EXPERIENCES. WHICH IS AND WILL REMAIN FOREVER IN HISTORY.... RESPECT TO BROTHA NOLAN...4EVER IN OUR MEMORY'S..
So glad this “popped up” up in my feed. We need to be witness to these amazing stories not only for what our grandparents and parents went through but also the life lessons that we desperately need from them. 32 year veteran.

This is def an ancestor of mine that I never knew of. More research is needed. The name is very unique to Louisiana
We need more men and women like this couple. So rare a treasure. Glad you found your long lost family, such humbling and noble personalities.
I heard from Vince Bruton that your family lived Bayou Self.
Jennifer Phinn yep!!
I am his great niece. Our family is traced to LA so it’s highly possible you are a relative.
Being a former Marine, this touched my soul listening and watching Nolan' s story. Thank you for posting and sharing this truly great man story.
I love this. This is the kind of stories our youth need to hear. Older folks too. They both are courageous, solid well balanced people. True Americans
What a blessing this elder is.
This man is America! I known many and now most are gone. Today’s youth have lost it. Respect, kindness, Discipline, obedience, hard work and ultimately Christ! Amen Mr. Self.

This is such a beautiful story.
God bless his spirit & soul.

This is so touching. The hunger and drive our people had. They didn't let a thing like fear hinder them. So empowering and humbling at the same time.
