    A few questions:
    1. How do I export all the audio at once?
    2. How do I export the Timecode metadata to text file?
    3. how do you autoname the files by date time and seconds created?
    If you can't do it these features would be useful to have in the rode central software.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions Clarke, future updates may give the option to select individual files or multiple files for deleting and exporting. At this stage it is not available.
      There is no usable sync timecode with the file apart from the time the file started to be recorded. No way to export this time with file.
      There is no option yet to adjust file naming method.
      Just have to wait I think Clarke. I’m looking forward to an app maybe to manage this from my phone.

    Thank you! I only use the recordings from the transmitters and never use the receiver (at least not yet) and have been having an awful time with the levels peaking and couldn't figure out how to lower the sensitivity. I just now turned on PAD and hopefully it will solve my issues going forward.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s wonderful. I’d love to hear how you go. Yes the pad maybe the answer.

    • @dandyfunhouse
      @dandyfunhouse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GaryDmedia it was still bad. I have peaking like crazy with it about a foot from my mouth. It's fine for normal speaking, but doing high energy announcing, I'm blowing this thing out. The worst part is that you don't know what you've got until playback which you can't do until you export. I'm sure if I get it farther away I'll be fine but it's definitely an experimental process. Maybe if I use the windscreen.

    • @taghappytv
      @taghappytv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dandyfunhouse I have been in contact with Rode regarding this issue as I find the input signal very sensitive. In short, they said Pad only drops the input sensitivity by -4db. What's unfortunate is if the audio clips on the way in any sort of safety track or low gain setting on the receiver or camera is void as the clipping is already in the pipe line. Rode said they'll pass the feed back on however I wouldn't hold my breath as to whether they'll impliment gain control at the transmitter level. The only way around this it to use a Pad attenuator between the mic and transmitter to pull back the gain. This is a shame as this issue alone completely ruins a great product. Who wants to risk clipping audio.

    • @DandyDoesIt
      @DandyDoesIt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@taghappytv Thank you for digging into this. I have recently added the rode go lav mic with excellent results and exporting in 32 bit float instead of mp3 has appeared to have cleared up the issue. But I have only done one project since making these changes. It may simply be the 32 bit float export solving the issue but the lav mic sounds so good I'm hesitant to bother doing anything else. I'm not seeing any reason to record to the camera at all these days unless shooting from a great distance which I never do

    The safety channel doesn't record 2 separate tracks. It sends the stereo track to the camera or recorder and one channel will be 20db lower, which then gets separated in post.
    As usual, Rode didn't explain this. It would have been more practical to have 2 recordings on the transmitter to choose from but they didn't think of that.

    Hi first thing you made a great video i use my microphone the receiver directly connected to my gh4 camera with the audio cable but it has a huming sound like a electrical induction I tried many cables and many things and I cannot get rid of it the only thing that works is a piece of tape to push the cable hard that's sometimes gets the job done do you why is that happening thanks for the video it was great

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that gos2011, it sounds to me like you may have a issue with the mic input on your camera.
      A way to check it is to plug your wireless mic into another recorder or camera and see if you get the same buzz. If there is no buzz then it just may be the input on your camera.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gos2011, I just thought of something else. 2.4GHz wireless mics have a lot of electrical interference around them. The receiver is not only receiving signal but also communicating with the transmitter. It could be that the camera is not shielding this out. Just a thought.
      You can test this by bringing the receiver close to the camera and then stretching the lead out and getting it away from the camera. Hope you find a solution.

    What does the off setting mean as opposed to always and backup?

  • @defjam3079
    @defjam3079 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do u need an iPhone or computer to turn recording from “always” to “off” or is there something u can press on the receiver directly? And is there a way to know if the device is recording while the transmitter is off?

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      When the transmitter is switched to always on, you have to use an app to access the function switch. No physical switch will do it. The always on recording stops when the transmitter is completely switched off. There is no indication other than the screen going blank.

    why is my rode wireless cutting out I have the single one not the 11

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Francine, when you say cut out, I imagine that it is loosing signal or connection with the transmitter. I think they call this “drop outs”. Mostly it is caused by interference from other devices like internet routers and mobile devices that use wifi. Distance can be a problem too or if the units have something blocking good reception. Try not to allow your body to come in between the transmitter and receiver. Hope that is of some help.

    I don't get the purpose of the pad function. Is it a kind of automatic gain control, something I would not like tu use for audio? Then the pad function and the gain control (fine or coarse) work together? Usually I record to an iPhone through the audio monitor of an Zoom H5 - it is true clipping on the Rode side must be omitted by all means. It is easy to control clipping on the Zoom H5 but I am not sure what is best practice on the Rode setup. You taught me how to use the Zoom H5.

    if I use the backup in the app, each microphone saves what it recorded individually, or it records both on a single track??

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      The recording in merged setting records to a single mono file. That is, 2 channels, left and right with the same mixed recording.
      In stereo, you will get a single stereo file with one mic recorded to the left channel and the other to the right channel. Hope that helps.

    Why doesn't rode give the user the possibility of changing the levels/gain separately? One person may talk louder, you might be recording b-roll with one mic and someone speaking with the other. would be nice to have separate control of each transmitter.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it would be good to have greater control. Since the latest firmware update there is a feature that you can select that lowers the sensitivity of the transmitters input separately called a PAD.

      Tia, I checked the user guide for this camera and the G7X does not have an external microphone input. You would not be able to use the Rode WG2 with this camera.

    I recently bought them and had a bad surprise while started using them. Please advice me with the right settings. So I use them with my iPhone for video recording along with the recommended lightning USBC Cable. As the plan was to record one person as the subject I used only one of the transmitters and so the other transmitter was not powered on and stored away. Finally When I played a recorded video the sound was fine with my phone and Mac. When I connected my AirPods to watch the same video i noticed that the recorded sound of the video was in mono ☹️. When I extracted the original sound file and analysed using audacity it confirmed me that the sound was mono and not stereo. ☹️ what must I do in the settings to avoid this ? Must I always use both the transmitters ? If I use one what must I change in the settings to have the setero sound file ? Please help

    • @GaryDmedia

      Radj, I presume you are hoping to record only to one channel and not merged to both left and right channels.
      In the settings using Rode Central you have to make sure that the merged selection is not selected on the receiver. Hope that helps.

      On the WGII receiver there is button to step the output up and down. This the output to the camera. You are unable to vary the gain of the transmitter.
      Using Rode Central you can lower the sensitivity of the mic on the transmitter by one step if needed.

    Hello Gary - we corresponded months ago right after my purchase of W-Go II and you and your tutorials were/are very helpful (and generous replying here on Comments all the way between Australia and Canada time zones!). Q: (on iphone 6 & 8 with analogue cord) I have my receiver Gain Mode and Gain set at Course and High, but an outdoor shoot this morning (Rode Lav Mic, very little wind) was a little at the top end close to distortion at moments. If I adjust to 'Mid' Gain will that give me less Mic input recording levels? I tend to project a little too much and have to remember I'm not teaching in a classroom (I lead seminars 4 times a yr for my RMT Peeps). Btw I'm also employing FilMic Pro by your lead! Photography hobby background is helping accelerate that learning - I botched some of this morning's focus as I should have locked it in 🙄). Appreciate your time very much - John.

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      John, so good to hear from you again.
      Totally understand the projection issue. It’s hard to get into your mind you don’t need to speak to the back of the class.
      The latest firmware update added the option to add an input gain PAD.
      This is the instructions from the website:
      “To activate the pad, simply toggle the 'Pad' button in RØDE Central. You can also activate the pad from the receiver by selecting the transmitter using the pair button (‘∞‘), followed by a long press on the ‘dB’ button. Note: a short press will activate the mute function, so take care to hold the button until the pad symbol appears on the receiver display.”
      I think that will help lower the sensitivity of the lav mic. Lowering the output of the receiver will not fix distortion caused by high input into the transmitter.
      If that isn’t enough you could fit your mic under your shirt fabric.
      Hope that helps.

    • @GaryDmedia

      At this stage Janette I don't think you can delete a single file off the device. You can do a global delete. Remember that the oldest file will be deleted to make room for new files. The recorder is only a fail safe incase the TX and RX loose contact with each other.
