The split mode is used IF you have two sources, for example if two people are each wearing a transmitter. This makes it easier to edit each source separately in the video or audio editor. It's not actually a stereo signal although that's what most editors call it. In the split mode if one person sneezes or something, that sound can be edited out of the final product. If it was recorded in merged mode then it can't be edited without affecting the other persons audio also. The point is that split mode allows each source to be edited separately. Also, the final export of a recorded video or audio project should never be done with the sources left on their right or left channels. They are merged into a single channel for export so that the result sounds normal to a viewer/listener. In Final Cut Pro this is called 'dual mono', other editors may have different names.
OMG... Thank you so much for this!! I have been trying to figure out why sound has been coming out of one side when I film all of my videos.😩 I have now merged them which is going to be such a game changer for the sound quality when I film my new videos tomorrow! Thank you. 🙏🏾
Hey my guy, I appreciate you. I am about to hit my first month on TH-cam, there's so much to learn. I couldn't quite figure out why my rode wireless wasn't giving me good sound. I couldn't even pinpoint that it was coming out of one side until I saw this video. I just had a OMG YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME moment. Like others have said, game changer. For the content I am creating, good audio is pivotal in connecting with my viewers. Thank you brother.
Something else to mention is that if you are only getting audio our of 1 side even in merged mode, it's probably because you need to turn off the safety mode in the receiver settings on the app.
Yes. There's no point in using split mode if you're only using one transmitter. You can, but why would you? It would result in your audio file only having whatever you recorded play on one side. Obviously this can be fixed in editing applications but it add another unnecessary step to the process.
Ok so I did an hour video recording using this set. Everything was fully charged and turned on. Unfortunately the audio is unable to be used. My voice is clearly cutting out every 2 seconds but randomly. So some is 1 second then 3 seconds and etc. Like a flickering audio. It sounds like what a conversation on your cell phone with a really poor connection. Exactly like that. This was the entire recording over 1 hour. This is the first time this has ever happened in the short time I've owned this. Later testing and it's perfect. So now I have no idea what caused this and interference.
I have experienced this with Rode and DJI mics. I think it results when the wireless mics are used near other radio or Bluetooth sources such as public transport sensors for payment cards, electronic displays, maybe mobile phones etc. It's rare in my experience.

Omg thank you!!! I’ve been trying to figure this out! For a couple of hours
I made that mistake at NAMM... My interviews on the first day were all on the left. 😂
So if im doing vox pop interviews - and using 1 mic - ill just use merged mode yeah?
Very helpful explanation. Thank you!
You saved my life
Thanks for the info my problem now sorted
thank you so much for this!
This was very helpful! thank you
What about for 1 single mic? It still goes mono

Legend, thanks!
What if I'm only using 1 transmitter?
