    I use both the three stage and the larger size (500,000 litre) Evolution Aqua. The three stage is only a trickle top-up for the water lost in cleaning the Oase drum filter (about 15 L per hour) at it's max rate of 1 litre per minute. The Evo is used every other day for replaceing water loss from flushing to waste from the bottom drains, as it has a 4 litres per minute rate. I've had the Evo 2 years now, and it still has about 50% of recommended life left.

      Brilliant mate I like your thinking. Tbh I have implemented this a bit as I just dropped nexus and I’m running about 0.5l per min through both 3 stage and aqua source 🙏 chlorine in ponds isn’t fun. Cheers mate and thanks for watching

    Big blue will sort it, although will need to reduce the flow depending on your water pressure

    Nice vid Johnny and glad for once you have a successful outcome. I use a 3 stage for topping up after filter clean but if a big change I use sodium thiosulphate, far cheaper than buying off the shelf stuff.
    On another point I’ve had an ongoing issue with my bekko. Its pecks and back after its dorsal have been very red. Tried most things but unsuccessfull. Then thinking of what else could be in the pond it occurred to me we have had more rain than normal. Not knowing what comes down from the sky I decided to try Pond Detox by Lincs Fish Health and after a couple of treatments it’s starting to clear up! Have to say only the Bekko was affected but certainly it seems to be working.

    Good video as always. Just wondering if the normal off the shelf de chlorination stuff still works the same? Just about to fill my new pond and move fish over from old pond but not going to put them in straight away knowing this lol. Also the clorine in the pond must be effecting the filter bacteria in some way . Iv seen others with high nitrite and this could be why.

    • @koifishjohnny
      @koifishjohnny  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi pal, Im no expert in this area of chlorine and there is better people than me to ask. But I would fill it super slow and then treat when full and no koi with sodium thisolthate and then check with DPD tablets etc. Good luck mate

    Worth looking into the quality of the cartridges you have been using. A good starting point can be to look at Discus retailers or specialist water treatment retailers websites for advice on the best cartridges to use.
    Some cartridges become exhausted really quickly, or are just ineffective .
    As mentioned In other comments flow rate is really important, worth experimenting to find the most effective rate. Also run a good few litres to waste from the unit before adding to the pond (essentially flush it out before using)
    KH is also all over the place in tap water, worth keeping an eye on that and buffering your water as necessary.
    Other alternative would be RO, however this can be costly and can waste a lot of water.
    Keep plugging away, you have a nice set up, stability and a hands-off approach is the key IMO.

      Mate love this message. Yeah I agree with hands off message mate and been adapting my approach over the last few months with good results, so video will be coming soon.
      Also I top up slowly now like 0.5l per min as no need to rush. Thanks for advice, guidance and support mate

    Another Great video. I’m in the states and my water company mucks around with the water too. It would be great if they could let all their customers know when they plan to add crap to the water. I’ve decided to just use liquid water treatment/conditioner every time I do a water change. That way I don’t have to wonder.

    Water companies 'flush' the lines with a stronger solution every couple of months. You can get them to email you when its due. (If they are nice). You need to get a big blue dechlorinator mate fill it with activated carbon for chlorine and catalytic carbon for the chloramine and even bone char which lasts longer. Andy Finch from Finch Filtration will sort you out mate 👍

    Hi mate, I'm not one who's struggled with chlorine/chloramine. I stick it through the RMA and trust it works.
    Also, do United Utilities have a website that showcases water testing values over different periods like ST?
    It gives you something to compare against. Generally, a pond shoud easily be able to cope with a 10-20% top up from mains, such are the low levels of the stuff in our water.
    Sodium Thiosulphate, on the face of it, seems to be a fantastic solution; however, it does produce ammonia during the chemical reaction with chlorine. All good if your filters are good. Not so good if you're at high pH and something has knocked your filter.

    • @koifishjohnny
      @koifishjohnny  2 หลายเดือนก่อน
