Back around 1970, my family did a long road trip across the US. One of the few memories I had of the trip as a young kid was waking up in the back of our station wagon and seeing Devils Tower out the window. A bizarre image I'll not forget. ;)
Remember when Aunt Edna started stinking up the backseat so Dad strapped her down on the roof of the station wagon with all the luggage and threw a blanket over her?
Wow, this video brought tears of joy.. My late husband and I took a trip to South Dakota and visited Devil's Tower NM, back in the mid 1980s. We walked the base trail too. We drove an early 1980s GMC Safari min cargo van out there. We just had a mattress on the floor. We drove through a hail storm and the roof vent got cracked. It did not have a fan in it and the walls and floors were bare in the cargo area it was like driving a toaster oven across Wyoming. We had such a good time. Thank you for the video and the memories it dredged up.❤😊
Thank you for your good videography of the tower. I went there some 20 years ago with my dad, who first saw it in 1939. But your work showed me details that I had missed, and caught the quiet, spare, and contemplative atmosphere of this unique place.
20 yrs. ago there wasn't the same level of interpretation or facilities there is today. It ia well worth a return trip; especially during time of national & internal stress. The place has a restorative quality, as evidenced by the many benches placed along the trails. Placed there for contemplation as well as respite from the hike. Enjoy!!!!
I was there during the summer a couple years ago. It was crazy busy1 You really had some beautiful shots of the hike that I didn't get to do. Thanks Brian! Hope you enjoy the short term job.
I really enjoyed this video. Devil's Tower is one of my favorite areas. The geology boggles the mind, and I can really feel the spiritual vibes. I plan to stop again soon. Thank you Brian.☮️
Just got back on a short two day trip out to Great Basin National park. But Oh man, for some reason this one really gives me the itch to hit the road again. Dang!
Awesome video, Brian. It wasn't on my list of where I want to go. But it is now. Thanks to you. I'm back on my third year of full-time after a year and four months of some very needed caretaking for my father. It feels great. Thanks for sharing. 👋
Stayed at the same campground in 2018. Like you loved the view of Devil’s tower and enjoyed the short trail around the monument. Every night at the KOA lodge starting at twilight, they played Close Encounters of the Third Kind on an outdoor screen for free with the real monument visible behind the screen.
Hey Brian, Thanks for this video of Devils Tower. It brings back memories when I came here with my son a few years back. Back then they played Close Encounters of the third kind what devil's Tower in the background very dramatic. Thanks again
Devils Tower is one of my most favorite places to go too! When I lived in Wyoming, I was there at least once a month (or more)!! Many sweet memories! I'm so jealouse
Hi brian, you look so relaxed and well. I'm so happy that you are free to roam again. That is when you are at your best. The scenery is fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing this. See you next time, your friend, Louise
Thank yo for sharing! I love Devil's Tower. We stopped by on a road trip from Chicago out to Colorado years ago. Hiked around the whole base. Awesome scenery that changes as you go. I also loved the prairie dog colony.
Brian, I can’t thank you enough for these wonderful videos that you so selflessly provide for your viewers. I speak on behalf of many when I say “Thank you, you made my day.?”
Devil's Tower always makes me think of a certain film and mashed potato! Looks such a cool place to visit. The Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland is formed from a similar rock formation.
Great video, Brian. You do such a nice job blending your day-to-day activities with cool sites. Really found this video intriguing. Good luck getting to your next job.
What a surprise video..... IDK why....of course Close Encounters 3rd Kind movie comes to mind, but TBH I've never seen any info or documentary on the Tower.... great video!
So good to see you enjoying something you truly enjoy. The visit to Bear Teepee. Thanks for sharing that beautiful and spiritual place with us. Peace to you too.
“Free and back up n the road.” I relate to this statement. I’m so tired of responsibility and am slowly working to cut off that responsibility so I can get on the road. Thank you for the inspiration.
Fun to see your first reaction to such an impressive place. I've been there twice (1962 and 2006). That base trail seemed a LOT longer in '06! Thanks for another well done video. Safe travels to you always, Brian, and good luck with your new job. 🙂
Lovely video. I liked the quiet background music and you focusing on all the info. I stayed in essentially your same campsite in September 1997 - the leaves were a bit farther along. We spent the night watching climbers' headlamps coming down the Tower, which was interesting. It was one of my very favorite places I've ever camped, quiet and peaceful and very beautiful. No aliens, though. That tower means something.
Thanks for taking us on the walking tour around Devils tower. It’s a doable walk for me. Yay! I’m amazed at how accessible it is. You’re right there. Now I need to get a hiking buddy and go there next year 👍
Great vid, thanx. I just went through hurricane Milton here in Tampa and there is still no power, but at least my place wasn't destroyed. Now lets move on to a beautiful winter.
Your presentations and photos are always wonderful, but what I enjoy the most about you is your pursuit , and curiosity to explore new things ; that you graciously share with us. Thank you. ❤
Great video! That is a magical place. Last time we went there it was the heat of the summer. It is such a natural phenomenon! Standing in beautiful Wyoming.
Thank you for such an amazing video. I visited Devils Tower a few years ago. But it was August and extremely crowded with bikers on the way to Sturgis. So I took a look and left. You sound very happy to be on the road again.
Wow wow wow! Great video taking us along 😊. Thank u so much! Looking forward to Part Deux. Glad you are relieved from your camp host duties. What a relief. Keep on rollin’
I get it. I retired in 2005, but have had some jobs since. Hotel desk clerk, hospital secretary, natl park concessions. I know the exact way you feel. As always, thanks for the ride-along!
Very nice video Brian! I look forward to everyone and I hope to visit this area someday! Looking forward to information about your new job. Be safe…Cheers 🌵✌🏼
I'll bet the pilots love the 'Devils Tower'. What a navigation aid. Well I guess they all have GPS now but back in the eighties not so much. I remember the first time I saw Pilot Mountain in NC. Another nifty landmark. Nice video Brian.
been watching your vids for a few years now but without doubt colarado and wyoming are the 2 most visually impressive places youve been to that ive seen (brit viewer)
Thank you for the video. Crazy here with storms. Had to come south for family reasons, new baby came early during the first hurricane at the first of the month. Second one didn’t get us nearly as bad. Your video is a nice pick me up. I look forward to hearing about the gig you are doing.
Cimmaron Canyon, New Mexico has a similar thing. It is beautiful site a a great hike through that canyon. There is also a Boy Scout camp in that canyon. Both of these structures are awesome. Thank you for sharing the plaques with the stories.
I loved Devils Tower! The path is well maintained for walking around it. And to just think, an alien ship landed on top of that monolith back in a close counter of the third kind. 😆😁
Wow, this is one of your best videos. I have never seen the devil‘s tower from those viewpoints and thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven’t heard you play your wooden instrument in a while, but with that light background music you played, I could envision you looking at the towerat Sunset and playing your wooden instrument and being in a very calm and serene mental state. OK, that was heavy. Lol God bless and love from Fort Collins again Northern Colorado.
Brian.. At the KOA in the evening they have a Hayride that takes you around the back side of Devils Tower. The ground 10000+ Acers owned by historic family since 1800s
Very nice Brian. Loved the music you had too. Ken & I lived abt an hour from Devils Tower on the SD side, b4 moving to AZ. Beautiful country there! Still love to go there when we can!
You did a great job with this video! I’ve been there and did the same trail you did. I loved the background music you chose, well thought out. A very spiritual place. Peace✌️
Wow... I've camped there twice... love it... the second time had climbers almost to the top almost sundown and I could only guess that they would stay on top of Devils Tower for the night... yikes...
One of my favorite places. There is a great trail from the campground up to the tower. It is a special place, mystical. You will feel it when you are there. Thank You!
OMG! So jealous! Am a huge SciFi geek and Devils Tower is one of those great film locations because of Close Encounters! I'll probably never get to the US to visit, don't even have a passport right now, so instead I get to see it through your eyes. 😊
Great video Brian. Now I’m craving a pile of mashed potatoes 😜
The only way I will ever see these sites is through your and other TH-camrs videos, great video
Me too. I love seeing these amazing places through the eyes of my favorite nomads.
Absolutely loved your sound effects and music on this video very thoughtful and appropriate
I was thinking same about the music. Very faint, ominous indigenous music. It felt like you were not alone on your trek.

These video releases bring so much joy to me. Thank you for sharing your journey
I come in at 6 minutes and I'm viewer 233. It's that good a story and video. Thanks, Brian!
It always looks like a giant tree stump huh! Amazing Geology!
Thank you for the fantastic views!
And what a lovely camp ground.
Awesome Devil's Tower look see. I'm wondering if you're off to the beet harvest.
The scale of the tower to the climbers is cool. I've always wanted to visit Devil's Tower.
I really enjoyed this video. Devil's Tower is one of my favorite areas. The geology boggles the mind, and I can really feel the spiritual vibes. I plan to stop again soon. Thank you Brian.☮️

Crazy climbers.
Brian, I can’t thank you enough for these wonderful videos that you so selflessly provide for your viewers. I speak on behalf of many when I say “Thank you, you made my day.?”
that tower reminds me of the mountain in the movie close in counters of the 3rd kind
It is where the movie was filmed.
Devil's Tower always makes me think of a certain film and mashed potato! Looks such a cool place to visit. The Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland is formed from a similar rock formation.

Such a beautiful spot. Thanks for the journey.
13:25 if I recall correctly, there’s also a small wall of these columnar rocks in Yellowstone, in the northeast quadrant, right along the paved road.
Thank you for the video. Crazy here with storms. Had to come south for family reasons, new baby came early during the first hurricane at the first of the month. Second one didn’t get us nearly as bad. Your video is a nice pick me up. I look forward to hearing about the gig you are doing.
