He was more human as a machine and he would show mercy but the vader that we know has no humanity in himself and he was more ruthless and brutal because he as no humanity in his body.

Yoda had a midichlorian count somewhere between 17,000 and 19,000, making him the single most powerful jedi to ever exist at that time. But anakin was estimated around 25,000. Imagine what he could've become, what he could've accomplished.

So he couldn't go back, cause of his damage. So if he would try to go back palpatine would probably kill him. So he had no where to go. Hope you learned something!
