Pro-tip, when you need to move the elevator alone, run a couple heavier blocks of wood too the top and stop it there. It will counterbalance it a little, makes it a little lighter on the lift. Not too many though or it might be tough to restart it.
Thank you for the video of splitting on the Ultra with the single wedge. Single wedge splitting some of my favorites. Almost soothing to watch. Very rhythmic. Impressively big bin of wood. You can tell you put in hours working every day.
Money, money, money! We got our first money of our little woodyard! I told it is a greed wood, but he want to buy it anyways. So. Chris, You inspirated me on this, then soon I got a friend of mine, who I have known for 35 or so years. We are just starting. Did I do the right thing to sell green wood? I told it was green. Wow! I can´t even give words, how much You inspire me! Go Chris. btw nice job!
You can sell green wood as long as they know it and know that it is not ready to burn yet. If you sell it to some one who NEEDS to burn it now you might just loose them as a customer...forever.
Thanks Chris,I love the long splitting videos I can't wait to get a ultra in a year or so,as much as you do your's has proven itself, that ash looks good
Yessir, does the ultra four way do good on bout all oak, cherry hickory? Any problems that the videos don't show, from one worker to another? Long as unknotted of course

The conveyor was built for handling grains, silage, manure, cob corn, etc. It is too narrow to handle small bales. Just an FYI from an old farmer. Great video! BTW Roth still makes them. A lot cheaper than firewood conveyors. Great repurpose of retired equipment.
It seems like it has taken 6 months to split this pile a few hours here and a few hours there! It didnt look near that big when just cut in rounds. Your buddy who cut so much of this for fun sure had A LOT of fun! Stay warm and be safe!🥶🥶
I like that when you split, you also make various sizes. My customers love that not all my stuff is the same size, I just judge by how it looks and feels so end up with a lot of oddball sizes of firewood lol. That's a nice pile of wood you got there!
Chris, Thanks for another motivating video. I enjoy watching your stuff and come back everyday. I find it amazing with hundreds of comments everyday you respond to most every comment. Thank you. I imagine that is a tall order to fill sometimes. On average how many hours do you spend replying to people?
I have been cleaning one of my wood yards for weeks getting room for next years wood to lay . And we are getting the Coooooold coming in tomorrow. And they will turn this mud to concrete so maybe I can get more work done .
2:20 For me lifting big logs works better when working with my knees instead of my back. My strongest muscles are in my legs and they are made for carrying my whole body. That’s what I figured out to be better. I had several times a Lumbago - which slows me down for weeks. It happened when I was lifting out of the back instead of out of my legs with upright back. Maybe it works for you as well?
As far as I know Roth is still in business. Just before I retired they bought a new Phone system from the Business I worked for... Got an old Trailer coupler lying around ?? put that on the Conveyor and use your Trailer mover ...
What kind of plastic did Bert use to line the elevator. Did it come in a roll or did he piece it and how did he attach. I need to line my elevator to reduce noise and wear. Thanks.
We use the 4 way a lot on good wood...nasty crotchy knotty tree service wood can be made to look good with a single wedge. I have hundreds of videos on my channel with the 4 way on.
@InTheWoodyard , thanks. That makes sense. I thought I'd seen the 4 way, but the last several, I've only seen the 2 way being used. Keep up the good work. Love watching your content and hearing your stories and tips.
Negative temps out there this week and all the way down here in Ohio! Cold cold cold! Stocked up on wood...but not that good old Wisconsin wood that burns hotter than Ohio wood ;) Keep warm out there!
What kind of head phones are those? . I know you’ve had them for a while. Bluetooth? Do they allow you to listen to podcasts while sawing/splitting? Thanks
I would put a tray on the frame by the tire inside big enough to hold your battery pack. You could hook up a couple of electric motors, even 12 volt starters couple sprockets and chains and other laying inside the barn someplace and you could drive that around. Just put forward and reverse switches by the troth.
Small grain Chris but it works well with your wood, go for it anything that help’s lighten the load and speed up production is worth using. Keep on cutting
Hey, Chris, it's been a while, but maybe Bert would do a video about his boiler. What he eats with it what he goes through a year with it. Weather is already getting enough wood for this winter. And the truck said you got from this stuff and that you're producing the last month or 2. We'll back be for the end of this winter or next winter. Just been awhile since we've seen the boiler video.
Give the 56V ego 18" a try, it's a lot more heavy duty than the rest of the electric saws. Have cut at least 40 cord with mine, but I also cycle between 4 batteries (have other tools). I'll usually give the battery a "break" once it's at 1/5 bars and take some of the rounds I've cut to the atv trailer, it'll recover to 3/5 typically if I've been full throttle constant use. Primarily cutting maple and poplar, if I'm bucking a couple trees worth of 12-18" rounds back to back it'll run a little hot but it's faster than my beater ms170 and not having to wear hearing protection is a nice perk. Especially for felling sketchy stuff so you can hear what the trees doing. It's become my primary saw just because of the safety aspects (chain stops instantly when you let off throttle, has an LED light for when you're being dumb and cutting past dusk), oil consumption is less than half of the stihl so I do find myself sharpening a little more.
No doubt, no replacement for displacement if you're cutting a serious amount of wood. Mostly 12-18" hardwood up this way and I'm holding off for a 500i, 455 rancher + ms170 ain't cutting it. @@InTheWoodyard
My only complaint is that it's built super cheap aside from the bar, but for 249 cad I'm impressed and it's a nice "one handed" saw. Took about 20 tanks to break it in but it's nice to hold wide open all day. Oil consumptions high which is a nice trade off vs sharpening more often. @@denverbasshead
Chris, have you ever thought of using the processor to just split rounds? You could just load them through the ejection chute and use the ejection ramp/door as a lift for big rounds. Of course, it would be a two person job.
Yup, thought about it but I do not want to lift all those rounds up and into the processor even if we use the tractor bucket and we would have to move all the wood to it first...BUT maybe some day we can give it a try???
Yeah, you’d want to load rounds into the tractor bucket to get them to the right height. It might be a 2-3 man job. What if you put that big aluminum table right by the ejection chute, and loaded a whole bunch of rounds on it?
Green Bay and Tampa Bay made it to the second round of the playoffs. So get caught up because this weekend will be a gif time to watch some football. I’ve been taking to an Eatonmade salesman about buying an upgraded log splitter.

Oh yeah!
I know as I am splitting wood like this, my mind has time to wander. What are you thinking about as you split wood?
Food, my wife, my kids, hunting, trapping, and you all watching and what I should say and do.
The ultra is such an awesome splitter, I love mine
Yup, I thing it is the best!
Will you be tarping the bins this year? I expec5ed to see tarps before the wnow season.
No, I wanted to but I was gone so much I ran out of time!
You doing ok Chris? Your wood splits today were on the bigger size. Just thought your mind was in another place. Hope your day is going good!

Yes
Yup.
How many hours do you have on the tractor now?
450ish

Ya moving the splitter is easier. Nice elevator. Does the cold shorten the use time?
The only thing the cold does is that we work faster to stay warrm!!
I see you run without a 4-way wedge often and run a single piece of wood through 2, 3, or 4 times. Is that preference, or do you dislike a 4-way wdge?
We use the 4 way a lot on good wood...nasty crotchy knotty tree service wood can be made to look good with a single wedge. I have hundreds of videos on my channel with the 4 way on.

Looks like the wedge needs a little touch up to reduce wood popping and use less ram energy. It would also make for safer operation.
