Chris, I agree broken toes are annoyingly painful. I had one as a teenager and it is crooked to this day. Had more than my share of broken bones. Spent a year and a half in body casts after being crushed between two cars and breaking my femurs. That was 50 surgeries ago and though now having my knees and hips replaced I still have limited bend in my knees. But I don’t let it get me down, I do more than most people I know. That accident was 49 years ago and I’m 72 yrs old now. Just keep after it, you are a worker.
I’ve always wondered if the wood dries faster in piles because it allows the moisture to escape through the end grain faster from gravity as opposed to to being stacked horizontally.
I'm in North Florida and I've started using your bin method and it works great. My bins are only 7 pallets by 4 pallets but this is only my second year selling. I've already sold three times as much as last year.
Chris, maybe Bert could machine up some sort of steel toes for slippers or crocs for you? It could be a instant hit on Tony’s channel as well. You could paint them pink so they could be seen in the nights as well. 😂 I have had a broken toe as well, hurts like heck and you seem to find every possible item or corner easier than before when you break a toe though. Hope you heal up fast. Maybe your famous pink tape on every possible place you could break a toe on? Got me going now. lol. Good Night Irene 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Chris Nice deliveries and bins look great. Hope your foot mends quickly. Ice packs for ten minutes, then hot packs for ten minutes will dialate the capillaries in the soft tissue. Might have to tape the break to a stable toe as a splint.
Nice delivery day video Chris. I can relate to a broken toe and 3AM pee calling. Another advantage of drying firewood in the wide open spaces/away from trees is not dealing with the leaves infestation in your wood piles. The leaves mat and don’t dry out and retain moisture causing mold. GNI
You're doing great and your way Does dry wood nicely! picked up some ideas from you with the palettes instead of being on the groun. Works great notice a difference too with drying much quicker
I feel your pain Chris. I broke my big toe in 3 places right before Bunyan and it is still bothering me. When you break a toe you walk different on your foot so then all of those tendons and muscles start hurting especially if you are as dumb as me and don't stay off of it and let it heal correctly. Good video!
Yup, the work just piles up if you leave it so us wood guys just keep going! If your toe is bothering you yet I have a rusty old jack knife that I can hack it off for you! Haaa!
absolutely couldn't do this in my northwest washington area. we get an average of 7' of rain (84") per year and any pile of wood I leave out never goes below 30%. If I put a cover on it it'll dry down to 20%. moisture measured by splitting the wood and testing the interior of the wood. the outside can read 10% with the middle at 30 or 40%, so split it and test to get an accurate reading.
You're moving around pretty good for having a broken toe! Hopefully it's feeling better. Regarding hooking up a trailer, I saw a video from an RV youtuber a few weeks ago regarding hooking up the breakaway cable, he brought up a good point that the breakaway cable should be hooked up to something other than the hitch. In case of a full hitch failure, this still allows the breakaway cable to work, and the trailer breaks get applied. I never thought about that but it's something I'm going to start doing differently.
In the house walking around I wear my crocs , for that very reason. I'll pray it heals good and fast. I know a day it to you Al lot. That's is really nice wood. And yes those bins dry real nice. I like that type of glove you are wearing.
Hey Chris! Holy cow. I broke my middle toe on Saturday. On my way to my closet, lights out, stubbed my toe on the door frame. Feeling better now (probably a hairline fracture) and the entire toe has a multitude of dark colors on it extending to the top of my foot. So yeah, I feel your pain…literally. I did what you did. Stuff your shoes on and get busy doing stuff outside. Take care!
Good morning Chris!😀😀 Hopefully your toe is feeling better. Chair jumped out in front of me a few years ago and the same thing happened. Took over a month to get completely over it. LOL!! Take care buddy!!😀💚

I made a pallet firewood bin, similar to the ones in your woodyard, here in England and so far I am not best pleased with the results as there is mould growing on the wood and insects living under the bark etc... The wood I keep under cover in the barn has very little mould and insects, I think the climate we have here in England is not ideal as we have plenty of rain and overcast days. The high humidity combined with mild temperatures through the winter, often between 0-10 celcius provides good conditions for wood to rot outside. I am curious if anyone else who watches your videos has experimented with the pallet bins in England... Maybe if I changed the location it would work significantly better.
Good Morning Chris 🪵 Sorry to hear you broke your toe! 😢 I bruised the bottom of my right foot yesterday I cannot walk on it. I was splitting firewood yesterday I have a Timberwolf TW-5 and love that splitter but taking today off as it is going to rain for the next 3 days. That will hopefully let my foot heal cause I really can’t put any weight on it at all. Seems like it’s always something.😮
Convection is the word you are looking for with regards to your air flow through the bins. I stubbed my toe on the fireplace hearth. It is two inches higher then the floor and made from stone. Yeah, it hurt. But I did not break it. I started to wear Crocs around the house. They work great at keeping my toes safe. I hope your foot is feeling better by now. I also fell off the top of my log pile and broke a rib or two. Google said it takes 6 to 8 weeks to heel. And the Goog was right. So, this clumsy guy doesn't climb up on the log pile any longer. I pull the logs off the top with a chain or a peavey. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers
An old timer taught me this a long time ago, wrap that swollen foot in a rag soaked in 90% alcohol and it will help pull the swelling down. The struggle real when you kick the dresser barefoot in the dark.
9 Pallets wide at approx. 4' width each (9X4=36 ft wide) 13 pallets long at approx. 4' in width each (13X4=52 ft long) estimated height is 10 ft. 36' width X 52' long = 1,872 sq. ft. X 10' in height = 18,720 sq. ft. / divided by 180 sq. ft. the number used to represent a thrown in or loose cord = 104 Cords of firewood is what this particular bin held. its all simple math, just put it at $375 a cord (I'm guessing 90 % was face cord sales) X 104 = 39k. I think he has it dialed in for his needs and conditions. Awesome job Chris! I believe he will need a new truck and a bigger trailer for moving the Benjamín's loads if he sells out.
That is very painful. I just had a toe heal. I hate getting up in the middle of the night to go to the restroom. It is that time of year to sell the wood. People don't like to store it, so they wait till the last minute.
A night light might help you avoid injuries. So sorry that this happened to you. I had broken little toes when I was you get. Running to answer the phone, I broke my toes on the door frame. Maybe a pair of slippers or moccasins would help protect your toes.
I crushed my little toe 20 years ago, and that was no fun. Had to get surgery to remove bone splinters and some skin and have it sutured shut. For a clean break, a doctor can immobilize your toe by taping it to the toes next to it. Good luck on finding HAIX slippers. It might result in a new product line for them and some dollars for you. lol
You're no wimp those things hurt like hell. I broke three toes at the same time on my right foot. Not cracked but broke in half all three of them. Half of the entire foot was purple with internal bleeding. So walking boot and nearly 6 weeks off work. I could feel my heart beating in them suckers for a week.
Sorry to hear about your toe! I would tell you to take it easy, but I know it won't do me any good! Lol last September, I was borrowing my uncle's husqvarna while my saw was in the shop, and that particular saw of his tends to idle high and turn the chain... Well, I was cutting the branches of a maple tree that I had just cut down, and was stepping over some high branches, and I sawed my left knee cap clean in half. I swear to you all, it never bled a single drop of blood. The cut is as wide as my 4 fingers put together, and was over an inch deep. The surgeon said it was a miracle, because nothing in my leg got messed up at all! He put a bunch of staples and stitches in me, and I was back out cutting within 3 days lol😅 it's hard to put the saw down once you pick it up! But I tell ya whhat, my knee was screaming at me while I was out there, for a good two weeks at least. I used a wedge cut out of a black gum to prop my foot up on in the truck while driving, cause I'm a short fella. Anyways, I hope your toe gets better soon buddy! Take it easy if ya can!

Hi Chris I was just wanting to let you know there is a video out there proving what you say is true about the way you're stacking your wood gets plenty of airflow and dry the wood It's another guys video he's camping at the end of a log pile fully tarped and he was using a wood stove at one end and he went to the other end of the woodpile and he said he can feel the heat blowing through a really really long long pile of wood His channel is (post 10) name of the video is (log pile tarp camping)and the timestamp is at 1 hour and 53 seconds I just thought you might get a kick out of that check him out he proves your theory is right
A good way to know if your wood is dry is when you dump it, it sounds like bowling pins hitting together when they’re hitting the ground. Ouch! You should be wearing the Haix boots to bed now! GNI
LMAO. Chris I have broke every bone in my body at least twice. I have had my Body in cat scans and I have had a few full body X-Rays. I have broke all the bones in both my hands more then 3 times. I had my right foot crushed and they said I would never walk again. get this I broke the ball of my heal and the Doctors could not believe it. Out of all the bones yes even my knees. the worst break is the ribs. Let me explain . You see breaking bones is one thing but when you break your ribs you just bought a life of pain when you least expect it. With broken ribs when you cough hard you feel like you just broke your ribs again. Sneeze and it is just like you broke your ribs again. You know how some times you feel the need to really stretch? Yep it feels like you just broke your ribs again. Now this never goes away. This will stay with you for the rest of your life. Worst news is the older you get the more it happens and the more pain you go through. When I was 24 I had to go through a full body X-Ray they X-rayed every inch of my body. That alone was not fun. Then they could not believe their eyes and made me go through a Full body scan. They had 4 Doctors and one guy said J C you broke every bone in your body but your head. Then another Doctor taps him on his shoulder and points and yes I busted my skull about 6 times lmao. They just could not understand how I was still walking. They had their doubts and made me go through all the X-Rays and scans again. The knees is painful pretty much all the time as well but the pain is always there no shock no surprise. But the ribs OMG When you re pop a rib you have to wait and hope it goes back in place. Some times I have to stand up and walk it off and no it does not help trying to push it back in place.
@@InTheWoodyard no not brittle just been really rough on my body. been run over 4 times hit by cars/trucks 6 times fell out of a tree at 60feet landed flat on my back was on a ladder working on a three story building and a little girl was running after her ball kicked the ladder and I came down. Dropped a 3/4 ton van on my foot been in 8 car crashes not one my fault Had a 5 bedroom house I was jacking up fall on me and pin me down but that didn't break any bones lmao just had a bump on my head. Was acting like a kid sliding down a steep hill and I was going real fast but just as i hit the bottom it was a sudden stop and I could hear the bones in my back crack and the people waiting at the bottom also heard it.. That took me a while to move and they wanted to call for an Ambulance and I told them know because we were at a place we were not allowed to be. I crawled home I could go on but you get the idea.
You know what you can do about a broken toe, nothing, it's just going to hurt until it heals. Broken toes and the doctor said yeah it's broke but nothing I can do.
That toe will heal crooked without a splint, maybe not. Sorry for your luck. It sucks to get old and have to get at nite all the time!!!! (story of my life) Well Chris, I guess we now know you are NOT immortal.......😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
@@InTheWoodyard I found your channel through a suggestion through you tube. I like the wood yard videos, but I love your trapping videos Chris. Keep up the great work!👍✌️
Guess what Chris your getting older and more brittle wait till your 75 plus and see what happens. Been there done that. You’re definitely not a whimp.. lol
Stacking wood is right and wrong and piling wood is right and wrong... stacking firewood adds value to your product because it's clean... and dumping a whole lot of wood out of your trailer leaves a big mess if they are out of firewood again that they are going to have to clean up! Stacking firewood in your truck for deliveries makes it look nice and neat and the customers know exactly are they are getting but some people don't care about that...🪵But you are right ... piled up firewood dries excellent! ...oh and by the way sorry about your toe! Hope it gets better soon!🦶

His channel is (post 10) name of the video is (log pile tarp camping)and the timestamp is at 1 hour and 53 seconds I just thought you might get a kick out of that check him out he proves your theory is right
Interesting! Thanks!
A good way to know if your wood is dry is when you dump it, it sounds like bowling pins hitting together when they’re hitting the ground. Ouch! You should be wearing the Haix boots to bed now! GNI
Yup, steel toed slippers!
Wow....sounds like you might have very brittle bones....full body cast 24/7/365 maybe!!!
I bet words were said when that toe got broke as you were half asleep.lol how is it now?? Hey is there been any snow up there yet???
Yup, bad words...better now, I taped them together....2" and snowing right now!
Lucky,send a lil snow down my way.lol
Wow, at oo:46 you said that you had a 12 x 16 NN trailer, wow that's a big trailer LOL, maybe 12 x 6?
Yup....just 6x12!
Don’t you hate it when furniture that’s been there’s forever just move and run out in front of you in the middle of the night
It jumped out and got me!
Nothing worse than broken toes…except when you drop your lawn aerator on a toe and one of the spikes goes through your toe….I’ve done it all!
Ouch!!!!!!
And I had open toed sandals on@@InTheWoodyard
👍👍👍
Thanks!
Anyone noticed the mouse getting out of center pile at 10:43 ? 🤣
I did not...that happens often.
I dropped a piece of Honey Locust on my big toe while splitting and I broke it. Not fun!! And yes I got steel toe boots after that. Live and learn!
Yup, steel toed boots!!!
I’m confused is the wood dry?😂😂👍👍
I am not sure I will check...................yup, it is dry dry dry and dry!
You’re tough, a broke toe is painful.🇺🇸
I wake up in pain and it gets worse all day!
You know what you can do about a broken toe, nothing, it's just going to hurt until it heals. Broken toes and the doctor said yeah it's broke but nothing I can do.
Yup...better now!
Good morning Woodhounds!!

Nope...it will all melt soon.
I've yet to break a bone or get a cavity in 32 years. Knock on some wood for me!
Nice...time keeps moving!
That toe will heal crooked without a splint, maybe not. Sorry for your luck. It sucks to get old and have to get at nite all the time!!!! (story of my life) Well Chris, I guess we now know you are NOT immortal.......😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I just taped the toes together...much better now.
Maybe have to get a guide dog
Good idea!
Chris tape your busted toe to the one next to it, it’s what the hospital would do.👍✌️
I did that! It worked!
@@InTheWoodyard I found your channel through a suggestion through you tube. I like the wood yard videos, but I love your trapping videos Chris. Keep up the great work!👍✌️
Tape your tow to the next one that what I do
Yup...I did ...it worked!
Sorry about the little piggy. You probably saw stars and said bad words but that’s excusable even if it happened to the Pope. Good luck with that.
I did mention the Pope in my verbal pain reaction!
Hello everyone
Hello Sir Stanley!
Take it from me-you get brittle when you get older
Yup, and gravity eventually wins!
Bins! Only way to go if you have the room!
Yup!
get some steel toed crocks
Good idea!
Oh no 🤬
It is better now! Thanks!
Guess what Chris your getting older and more brittle wait till your 75 plus and see what happens. Been there done that. You’re definitely not a whimp.. lol
I will fight gravity until tyhe day it puts me down permanently.
That stinks, if you want your toe straight, get ready for a pin. At our age, who needs pretty toes? Take it easy bro.
I just taped the toes together and after a few days it was much better.
Steel toe slippers
Good idea!
Good points...thanks!
