  • Maytag Bravos or Cabrio Top Loading High Efficiency washing machine had the F51 error because small articles of clothing gets jammed between the two basins and work their way down to the drain where they eventually block water from draining. Removing the basin is actually more difficult than I expected. I watched several videos here on TH-cam and they were super helpful. Rather than buying a special tool to remove the basin you can use a simple car jack and 2X4 and it worked! Washer is working great again! I did not have to spend a dime on this. Just some effort to remove old socks and stuff stuck in the drain.
Thank you for sharing your videos to make this fix possible!

The error will keep coming back, the tub has to float up when it fills with water so the whole tub doesnt spin when it agitates, next time it happens make sure you sand down the shaft and inside the tub hole. Be careful because its plastic in there

I wish you could show the part where you actually pull out the basket. I used this method but its still stuck. it got to the point where the jack hit the sides of the wall and there isn't any more space for the middle pole to go down. any suggestions?

I put a piece of wood between the jack and the middle pole. It gave me more space to turn the jack and it eventually came out

So I had the same problem happen again last week! I got the F51 error code again but I thought it had to be something else. I spent hours working on other potential fixes then checked and found more clothing stuck between the plastic basin and metal barrel. I was able to fish out the clothing without removing the metal barrel this time. Check Out my new video: th-cam.com/video/ZtShMAr_YPw/w-d-xo.html

careful with "car jack hack" good way to break the balance ring off the inner tub. invest in the tool or call your local appliance service man. he may "sell" you the tool then buy it back for half price when you return it. $40 rental is better than a broken $250 tub. guy who came up with this idea should be responsible for all the broken tubs. P.S. the reason the tub is difficult to remove is because the shaft is rusted, preventing the tub form "floating" so that it can agitate.

I have an appliance business and use that method, i have done more than 100 bearing jobs and never broken a tub, if the wood is too short i can see it damaging the ring

You just need another piece of wood or a brick under the jack and it works just fine

I just tried the "car jack hack". The tub was so tight that the 2x4 distorted the stainless tub at the top which then pushed against the plastic above it ( is that the balance ring? ) snapping off two pieces and leaving it cracked along much of its perimeter. The 2x4 was not too short, it barely fit across the top at 21.75". The proper tool is much cheaper than a new drum.
