    You may never see this, but the tailgate complaint is pretty easy to fix.
    After pressing lock it waits for the key to leave the bubble around the gate then it’ll close but you can turn that off with a Toyota scan tool in the customize settings. After that it works exactly how you want / expect it to.

    Doug's opinion on the camo style fenders and interior accents is exactly the way I've always felt about fake carbon fiber. I've never really understood the appeal of having fake carbon accents everywhere and yet every car company seems to plaster their "sporty" trim levels with it. I much prefer the classier look of stainless steel, aluminum, leather, woodgrain, or chrome detailing. I've never jived with the boy-racer fake performance car look.

    • @bwofficial1776
      @bwofficial1776 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      At least the camo isn't pretending to be something it's not. Real carbon fiber has benefits and fake carbon fiber lacks everything but the look.

    • @atmartens
      @atmartens 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Agreed. The fits and finishes for a car are much more important to me than a giant screen. I don’t want anything squeaking at 50,000 miles let alone 150,000 miles.

    • @clinttube
      @clinttube 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Couldn't agree more. The camo is over the top but it's not really pretending. Fake carbon fiber is not even attractive; honestly even real carbon fiber on the interior isn't very attractive in my opinion. I know people apparently love it and I've gotten compliments on the carbon fiber console, dash, and door panel trim in my car but I'd secretly prefer a dark wood. If any car I owned had fake carbon I'd replace it immediately to avoid embarrassment.

    Doug. The tailgate lock button. We have 2023 RX with the same issue. It drove me insane because our 2021 RX did not have this issue. I even asked the guys at the dealership and they were mystified by why some times it closed and locked and sometimes it didn't. Making it more confusing was the fact that the button to just close the tailgate worked without any quirks. HOWEVER, after several months I figured it out. You need to push the button for a long push and then step away from the tailgate by 8 feet or so. And then it will close and lock. When you think about it it makes sense. You are asking the car to lock but it will not lock while the proximity key is INSIDE the car for obvious reasons. When you lock the other doors using the button on the door, the door is already closed, but here, when you press the button you are still technically inside the car because the tailgate is open. It needs to know you both have the key and that it OUTSIDE the car before it locks. So it will beep twice when you press the button. Presumably that signals one that you are closing it, and two that you have permission to lock it by the presence of the key. Then you need to step far enough away for it to read that the key is definitively outside the car so that it can safely lock. In addition, it wants to make sure that all objects, like children, are not close by when closing. So if you put bags on the ground near the back of the car it won't close. The area behind the car needs to be clear.

    Nice video Doug. That trip is beautiful I bet. I own a '23 Tundra 1794. I agree with you on the powertrain and the fuel economy .2 small things: 1) 23's and 24's have been proven to have the same engine failure and now it's 100k engines that will be fully replaced. this includes some of the hybrids. However, I bought a 10yr/125k extended warranty for around $1300 so I have peace of mind with the new gen issues that are sure to arise. I recommend everyone does that on these models before their original warranty expires. 2) those flares are polarizing sure but you def can swap them with non-camo alternatives.
