    100% true.
    Currently practicing a difficult challenge that I could barely play at 100 bpm at the start. Three weeks later I'm at 160 bpm.

      good job! I am practicing to improve on Universal Mind, but after goinf from 112 to 120 in one month I am now stuck, hopefully I will not keep losing motivation

      @@domenicopellegrino2963 I actually passed 200 BPM on day 27, but it required me to correct my picking technique. I was holding the pick with my finger tips earlier but now I play with a closed fist with the pick slightly angled. It helped tremendously. :)

    I prefer these videos that you put out - the sharing of perspectives with ways you can approach your instrument in a more disciplined way - that really inspire you to dissect your own playing and find what makes you tick. From there, *obsess* about it in every single way!
    Thanks for everything, and especially for all of your freebies over the years 👊🤘

    I've been working on legato recently. I usually get inspired for a week or two and practice it, rarely make any progress and give up. I've got to the point where I've been working on it daily for the last 8 weeks and I'm seeing some real progress with it.

    Hello Claus. I love how you directly speak about this hard but simple truth. I share your philosophy for about 2 years now and it was the Best and most efficient Time in my guitar playing. Currently im in the middle of tremolo training for about half year in a project called 'Black metal' and im moving forward every single Day. This is the most motivating aspect even if will take another x months to finally nail this one song. Love you, man.

    100% right. I started doing this and the results are definitely showing. Not to mention many times you think you've mastered something but as you keep going you realize that theres little things within the piece that start to sound just a little better at a time then they did the day before

    I've been playing for 3 weeks and I must say, this is definitely true. Even if practicing techniques feel boring, the amount of progress you make is definitely rewarding. My goal is to become an improvisor on guitar. And though practicing techniques at this level feel like a huge deal, I'm ready to take the pain to reach my goal.

    this is a great idea. if you struggle at sections of songs, find the technics of each part and just repeat those. i learn songs faster when i just repeat sections over and over. it would be beneficial and fun also to do a mashup of sections of your favorite songs and practice till its second nature.

    Yes I agree and am guilty of hitting plateaus cause yu have time to play what's intriguing and forget about the mastering of certain riffs ,chords ,etc.thus yu just don't roll Forward with progress, instead yu can only do it perfectly occasionally. This opens my eyes and is very nice to hear a guy clearly explain the problem.

    The fire in my heart is rising again after hearing your speech please help to improve more..
    Im in the stage of knowing the 5basic pentatonic
    And i can play them already in key of c backing track and i'm stack in it and i dont know what to do next to improve.

    • @richardhunt809
      @richardhunt809 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would learn the C pentatonic (minor?) across the whole fretboard. Make sure you know which note is which. Which are the root notes? Which are the 5ths, the 7ths etc. Then just by shifting the whole pattern up or down the fretboard, you can now improvise a solo in any minor key you like.

  • @mrpentium

    Actually this is very little to do with alternate picking per se and everything to do with the difference between playing around and discipline

    I like the comparison to footbal. And obviously you're really talking about football. (kick the ball with this or that side of your foot) but musically all I can say is that I will never match your abilities. But doesn't making music mean writing good songs rather than being a technical virtuoso?

    • @thelickpolice1210
      @thelickpolice1210 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Almost like he's talking solely about technique here but might be just me man idk

    However much you practice or train thing is if there is feeling in your playing, if you're actually saying something with your guitar. And I don't think this comes with practice. It just exists or not.

    • @guitarmastery
      @guitarmastery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Build the skills so you can express yourself without thinking about the mechanics of playing at all. That's the purpose of practicing. Know your craft. Then make art. No craft no art.

    • @saturnskull1242
      @saturnskull1242 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@guitarmastery I don't disagree, but I am just talking about players like bb King, to whom your idea of practicing certainly doesn't apply, and whose feeling in playing the guitar was just a gift from nature. Now take a player who can play with the speed of light and shred all night long, and then take bb king's vibrato. I surely know who/what I prefer.

    Love you Claus. You do speak a truth many don't want to hear. However there is usually a reward after listening to your life-coaching, and it didn't happen here. I just freely spent 11 mins watching an advertisement. I'm already inspired and practice at a project level. I watch the videos for something to add to my project. I did not need 11 mins of encouragement for something I already do, but I sit through these for some exercise or tidbit that aligns with the video title. Is there some way you can possibly indicate in the title so we don't waste our time... It may not be valuable to you or anyone else on these comments, but 11 mins of my life is extremely valuable and I want to be able to click on your videos with confidence.
