I am 75 years old. I decided to learn to play lead guitar, although I played acoustic rhythm for many years.. I followed that "chunk at a time" process you described in your video. That just makes sense to me. For instance I wanted to learn the intro of the Eagles' song, Lyin' Eyes. I learned the first little phrase, Set my metronome to the appropriate tempo, 132 BPM. Looped this one small segment of the intro. Until I was playing in my sleep. Then, I added 4 notes to that, looped it over and over then added that to my first notes I already learned and subsequently the rest of the intro with appropriate pull offs and hammer one. I was so proud of myself, if my hands hadn't so tired, I would have patted myself on the back. Great method and a great lesson. Like eating a whole pizza, one bite at a time.
Why does EVERYONE brig uo their age. I’m 50 and I left my band and quite after 10 yeas at the age of 23 now I’m back at 50. And I’m full of remorse for quitting. I’m not harping on you what I’m saying is it is a crazy phenomenon. I don’t know where it comes from. I thought the same thing when I quit at 23 I’m was like I’m 23 now then revel it up again at 37 and I was like forget it and now I been back since 48 and that was 2 years ago. But I think of it all the time and so does more then halve of the players. Talk to any teacher he’ll tell ya most people do. Does anyone know why? Was it because most players are hound at the highest point in their career and that’s what we see? If you can figure it out let me know. It’s negative and I have to evict those thought all the time.
Oh ya by the way great job on that song man! You got the de dedication brother. If you have a truck to shutting up the negative voices which are really I thing excuses on some level let me know! 🤔🧐✌️
This is so true! I thought I had alternate picking down and was presented with an wxersice where you first pick outside and then inside. It screwed EVERYTHING up. So that is what I am practicing now.
I think most of us can relate to the part of feeling uncomfortable about doing it this way, because if we're honest it's not what we want to hear, but it makes perfect sense....
Very accurate explanation of why I am a very mediocre player after 50 years. He is spot on. Listen and learn. What he is saying is true and can apply to almost anything.
I feel personally attacked by these facts. LOL. Everything said is 💯% accurate. I get bored once I'm okay at something and move on before I get great at it. Time to refocus and do better.
I am very interested in how you teach. It makes sense to take small, short exercises and to do them obsessively until you are proficient. I have been one of those people switching and changing what I practice almost daily and I got literally, nowhere. I would also guess that by doing the small amounts at a time that the more you master the quicker you become at improving as you along. I would call this the snow ball effect, is that how you see it?
Thank you sir, this is really help for, can I ask one thing about picking? I always work on fixing picking motion, sometimes I think I figured it out, and suddenly I can play anything easily, but next day it's all gone, I can't play like yesterday and don't know what's happening.
Mastery is a process of learning, forgetting and re-learning. It's completely normal and a reflection of how the brain works. The more times you can forget what you've learned and then re-learn it again the faster you will master it. Keep at it. It's all good.
I cannot find any “rhythm” courses on your web site. You say there is a link below for your rhythm class, the link does not work. I go on your web site and enter rhythm in your search, it says nothing is found! I would be interested in your teachings on rhythm.
This guys right on about technique. When that moment is completely that moment and there is no clutter the product is always noticed by poeple saying "wow that's really nice man". This is so satisfying that one intimately gets the microscopic connections clearly when you honestly practice in order with out the modern day self entitled fake tiktok brat mentality. (Ah that felt good) 1,2,3...designed logically. Foundation, walls, roof. Beginning, middle, end. One in hand is better than two in the bush...ok. Decide if your serious and understand that you don't understand. Know that what you can kinda opaquely see of you in the future emotionally jamming is pure human passion like love. The stuff we need to PRACTICE more of. We all can ride a bike but not all learn how. Start on the correct path by an honest teacher because true teaching is intimate. Trust is paramount in pure learning and gpa. No sexual deviant in the staff room. I'm lucky I was very intimate metaphorically and literally but the great vibrant aura of what makes the love of music prevailed within myself and now whether a soul is 80 or 18...that is not important. All that matters is someone wants to learn cause they couldn't stop twitching or that gingly vibe whenever that song played kept waking up some vast thing inside us. I realized I have been a mentor since I was a kid and not because I'm an extrovert egotistical asshole...totally opposite but that's another story. I'm driven to acknowledge this guy by what he truly is getting at and the awsome connections that become available. Doors open that you have no way to ever imagine it's way better ya we can be kids forever and still be grownups. You know the kind that aren't cold, dark and evil....like the putins of the world. Anyhow gotta go write on that very thing but saw guitar dudes post and knew how real right his mantra is and in this dilusional ungrounded current era I realize the importance. I work at protecting what is reality when it becomes destructive and deadly as it did in the United states during the kaos when trump was allowed to lie everyday and fox news was called fox news and dangerously still is. The digital crossroads of all of civilization is now in full kaos and is our biggest challenge ever. I don't see the truth supported and I don't see the thugs getting challenged. Thats unacceptable. If I live in a time and I do that we now can talk to anyone in the world and can stream live real time feeds from what was in the boonies and the killing grounds and now we all can see the murderous shit, well for myself there ain't no fucking way am I going to sit back and watch the little kids and moms and little boys get murdered because some asshole thieving ego punk has scared everyone. Hmm lets see option one I'm afraid he keeps killing the most precious beautiful life form, magical....I have no words. Option two, there is none. Someone has kicked my door in at night and sara is screaming....I know what to do and I just do it and I don't stop until that evil shit ain't moving. I hate that part of our species but right now am I to watch live cell feed of this shit and not be vocal. What kinda species are we to not collectively stop this. You, me and my dog goofy seriously, he's solid and about as loving as I have seen. Music is all about this and it's universal, spiritual and all humans have the cadence in their dna. It's a rhythm that the planet has been pulsing on for billions of years. It just is and that is humbling and talk about the mother tree. Putin ain't nothing but a little man that poeple have made into the illusion behind the curtain in oz. This is nothing new either. Let's learn how to play, all of us without all the hangups that in the end is really just are fears...isn't it.
Singular focus and playing while watching TV are antithetical. Focus is focus. If the TV is your focus, your playing is not. Maybe you should Stop telling people they can watch TV or TH-cam while they practice to get better. When learning to drive you aren't told that to get better you do this while looking at your phone. Focused practice is Focusing on Practice--not ancillary crap. But hey, that's one man's opinion. You are the teacher.
I believe watching tv force your second nature to takeover. Similar with driving, first you go slow focusing on each gear change, clutch, power pedal, break .. and after some time second nature takeover and you move focus on other things like trajectory, curves etc. Same for the guitar you have to make you fingers do the job without you so you can focus on emotion, details, abstraction etc..
you have pushed me to such a high level of learning...im starting to improvise my own lead tracks...keep up the motivation...ur awesome...

You are a great teacher, very inspiring, motivational and passionate... I just improved greatly on one piece by your advice, thank you :)
One of the most important lessons you’ll find. Thanks.

Glad you like them!
Great teacher !
Thank you! 😃
after years of learning a few ..now I know why..thanks for sharing this concept...

Singular focus! This helps with my ADHD on the guitar... Each lesson you give, applies to me! Thanks
Yeah it's rough learning stuff with my ADHD also

Good advice thanks
Wow Claus this is such an awesome technique I love it.😃👍
Thanks so much
@@guitarmastery You’re very welcome. Much love.❤️

This method actually works. Wish I had started like this from the beginning damn.

I asked this👆🏻👆🏻 6 months ago?!
Nice
Are you using a stand for the guitar? If so, what is it called.
This is me in a nutshell want to learn a full track and just blitz through it not taking the time!

What in the shit are you on about? Lmao
This is so true 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🧠⚡️
Is it really important to practice sports or any physical training to better play guitar?
No. Not in particular I would think.

Oh god. What if that's already your practice method and it still takes forever :'(
Watch from 9:14 and you’ll have your answer.
Also, practice patience.
Why not try reading a book while practicing? xD
These comments are weird lol
Yeah but this loop thing makes you crazy. Nothing worse than a loop stuck in ya head
Cool videos, please turn on Russian subtitles, and I have more subscribers
You are telling people to do what they're already doing. Telling people they can learn 5x faster is nothing but a scam. STOP!!!!!
5 X faster? I could go from down picking 200 bpm to 1000 bpm?
I DON'T THINK SO.
Actually 400 bpm down strokes to 2000 bpm. Not likely.
He means it will take you 5 times less time to learn it.
meaning weeks instead of years or days instead of weeks.
Who do you think you're fooling with that British accent?
No one really cares. What he teaches is a gold mine.
