    For those that say he talks way too much, remember, he is an educator. A master guitarist. He is trying to teach from different angles to reach as many guitarists as possible. He is INTENSE. One of the best, if not the best guitar teacher online. The knowledge he's passing down is rich and thick in these FREE lessons. Not watered down like others. Pay attention! Don't let your mind wander. Dig down! I get the feeling that those who claim he talks too much have never been formally trained. Where the teacher is respected, and revered. That EVERY WORD is valuable and important. I promise, the problem isn't with him. If you find it boring, watch the videos over and over until you get it!
    LISTEN AND UNDERSTAND.

    I always thought Claus just rambled about the obvious but the other day I watched a video where he mentioned accenting and wow what a difference it made in my playing almost immediately. I have focused on making my pick strokes sound even up and down but the accenting really took my speed and accuracy to a new level. Thanks Claus!

    I get more from his explanation of what you need to think than watching excercise videos. It all makes sense on what I need to do because alt picking always kicks my a$$. i want to just get better and whatever I been doing hasn't work. Making 3 notes a phrase and articulating each phrase..Lightbulb and Bingo. Thanks dude. Excercises are not where it's at for me. This might be the first lesson i actually spend money on

    It's far easier to learn to play licks very fast and develop technique than it is to play over different changes, improvising, while outlining the chords and finding all the notes for the melody you are creating in your head, without making mistakes, even playing only 8th notes. Don't forget to work your mind along with it.

    Claus, your vids are always great and useful and really gave me a new sight of learning. But by practicing daily and focussing and making everything as recommended ... there are days where nothing seems to work ... what about those days? (sometimes it feels like I'm walking back instead of forward ...)

    • @guitarmastery
      @guitarmastery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your development is exponential but in the short term it fluctuates. If you where to measure your progress and skill on a monthly basis you wouldn't see those plateaus. It's the daily and weekly ups and downs that gives you the illusion that you're not developing and moving forward. The cure is simple: Stop thinking about whether you developed since yesterday or last week. Just keep on practicing like nothing happened. When nothing seems to work, keep practicing. Silence the child on the backseat that keeps saying "Are we there yet?" - Know that every single repetition you do makes a difference. I can't not make a difference. No matter how it feels in the moment.

    I love your videos. Our brains work the same way. I am a beginner, but can relate 100% with everything you say. That’s just how my brain works.
    Most teachers would teach new students a couple of basic chords, and then teach them a song or 2 using those basic chords, so that they feel like they are making progress, and it is fun.
    I am that exception that takes the long way round. I just focus on skills everyday. I am just over 2 months into playing, and I can’t play a song yet. But I do many exercises everyday.
    I break everything up into smalls steps. I practise chords, and chord changes. I strum when I do that, and experiment on my own strumming rhythms. I also do the spider walk everyday, and this also lets me focus on picking. Oh, another thing I just did on my own, was to try and do this without looking. When learning something new, obviously I have to look, but I try to switch to not looking as soon as I can.
    I should add, I also don’t want to make too many mistakes, so I won’t force myself into making mistakes (expecting too much of myself).
    I also do just left hand exercises, just sitting by the TV and just picking. And here I also play around, and to adjacent strings, and skipping strings. I try to build that neuroplasticity. Some people might call it muscle memory. And I just repeat. It took me 2 months just to get my hands, fingers, and muscles stronger. And I still have a long way to go. But this is similar in any “sport”, you have to exercise your muscles. Luckily I have a long background in sport, and have that mindset already.
    Thank you for your awesome videos. I really enjoy the way you think and do things.

    • @dirkmoolman
      @dirkmoolman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also practise finger picking daily. I only started this about 3 weeks ago ? I found some basic Travis picking exercises, and added them to my daily exercises.
      And it is mind-blowing how the brain works. I will pick up the guitar and think, i'm going to struggle cause I'm new. But if you repeat the same exercise everyday, somehow your fingers and brain go on "auto pilot", and you surprise yourself. Repeat repeat repeat. Everyday.

      @@samroyproductions3476 Ya, as someone who's self-taught because of being poor as a kid, I've always economy picked because it was logical. If you've watched Marshall Harrison, a virtuoso here on TH-cam, he is adamantly against outside picking and mocks it w/e the topic is brought up. So do a few others like Tom Hess and the teachers he trained. They also push directional/economy picking here on TH-cam, as well.

      This is why I’m a strict economy player now. People claim you can’t get the rhythmic clarity with economy picking, but that’s only when you’re not great at it. Practice economy picking well enough and people can’t hear the difference. There’s literally no downside to it at the higher level, and it completely removes the outside string picking issue.
