I saw Blur live in cologne/germany. Very fun night. And upon today, Alex James is one of the coolest bassists I've ever seen, even more on stage. If I like to present Blur to younger people (like my kids), I usually take a chance on Song 2 (because almost everyone knows it already), Bettlebum and definetly Coffee & TV. It didn't work as intended there, though. I have to admit 🤠
Blur released two albums before this but this really pushed them into the limelight. A lot of people put it down to the death of Kurt Cobain which had occurred a couple of months before this was released, it sort of cheered music up again.
Very much a summer anthem for the UK in the mid '90s, their Parklife album was a blinder....!! In the media there was much made of their rivalry with Oasis but for me personally Oasis just weren't in the same league - they were so derivative whereas Blur were more dynamic, new and creative
@@jemxs are you kidding oasis destroyed blur and blur was out 5 years earlier oasis was playing to 125k people after there there second album blur was releasing singles on the same day as oasis to say look where huge and where anti American culture
What a classic, this was britpop at its best, what a great band blur was. Great band like oasis and even a little bit more dynamic. React to country house and the universal, massive songs too.
This takes me back! I loved the whole Britpop scene and Blur where a really important part of it. I was a huge Oasis fan, but I also loved Blur’s less aggressive lad fun feel. I enjoy Gorillaz but I also enjoyed Graham Coxen’s solo work after Blur. Song 2 is my favourite Blur track, if you are thinking of reacting to another!🙏

Blur was big for us queer kids in the 90s. They also introduced Australians to the alternative britpop scene which invaded the top40 for years.

I love this song but it's not as deep as one might think. Damon wrote it after he accidentally walked in on an orgy whilst on holiday in Greece.
