Bluetooth was also lost in the Win 10 transition, but I was able to remedy that and still gain faster wifi speed.
My dad has this laptop in Mexico. Still running Windows Vista but it’s horribly slow lol
I upgraded my old second generation i7 Asus laptop from a mechanical hard drive to an SSD years ago. It still runs practically everything I need on Windows 10 without any problems. (except games)
I gave new life to my 2011 Intel i3-2310M Notebook with a Addlink 256 GB SSD and 4GB DDR3 Ram, everything works great and I Don't need to buy a new device.
Is there any disadvantage of ssd?
@@Showbizbts Nope, but for precaution you can change your SSD every 5 year (only if you are really paranoic). Actually (well-known brands) SSD's are very affordable and reliable, and in case of failure, the difference between magnetic HDD and SSD is that in HDD you can recover data easily than SSD, but the best combination is to save important data in HDD and run operating system, programs and games in a SSD. And there are a lot of software tools with you can check the health of your SSD, so you can decide when is time to replace it.
I think it's a good idea to upgrade also the cpu to some core 2 duo instead of the celeron
Yes it definitely would, just wanted to do something simple and quick.
@@endlesstech_official Yeah understand. Btw you can also put in that laptop 8gb ddr2 ram, 2 sticks each 4gb but are very rare and quite expensive and also chipset must support 8gb of ram otherwise is useless
I have the same laptop.. How can i get the cpu
I still have this exact computer, same specs as my daily driver with windows 7, on a 500GB SSD, works great on 4GB ram
For those who didn't know what laptop this is:
This is the Compaq CQ61 (or HP G61 in Intel variant). This is an upgradable laptop, you can upgrade its CPU, storage and RAM, GPU might be also upgradable (idk, haven't tested the GPU one before).
I also have these at home but I stopped using it because the power button melted. (I'm playing GTA San Andreas and GTA 4, but after a few days, it melted because i played too much)
Linux would do this older Hardare justice (with the upgrade), as it's supported & also the entire CPU comes into play with most distributions...IMO
True, but a lot of people using laptops for school can't use Linux, because their school requires Windows stuff. If you can use Linux, old Core 2's are still very usable.
You do realize Linux is not for the average user
@@johncate9541exactly Linux has a long way to go
wish linux was as easy as windows......But i dont think it ever will?( i really tried alot of them)
Lol, most people in this comment don't know what they are talking about.
I'm upgrading my old laptop too, it is very slow in booting up and loading apps .I ordered 2 tb ssd and 8gb ddr3 ram in shoppee, Hoping arrived soon
I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 15, Pentium Silver laptop from a 500GB spinning disk to a dual-SSD configuration (500GB M.2 NVMe for OS and certain media files + 1TB 2.5" SATA for other media files, games and mass storage).
I am planning on upgrading my TOSHIBA satellite C855 2F3 2013 laptop. It has a core i3 CPU and a WD Blue 1TB HDD. Planning to get it a Samsung SSD with 1TB. I am probably also gonna get its RAM upgraded (it has 6GB stock). Might get it changed to 12GB.
For a better comparison, just clone the original hard drive to the SSD.
That way the config, updates etc will be identical and show you the true performance boost.
I'm currently trying to fix up my old hp probook I used for school (they didnt give it to me, but it was lost for damn near 8 years until i just found it recently.), maybe i'll consider an ssd upgrade, i already have 8gb of ram so it should be a good upgrade. On a side note, maybe its just nostalgia but I really miss the fatter form factor of old laptops. plus I could use a disc drive.
1:17 And that was not even a full boot up. I had a computer like this. When it got to this stage, it was at least another 3 minutes before it was finally ready to open windows and go.
@@endlesstech_official Before the upgrade, your laptop was ready to go immediately when it got to the desktop screen?
Sorry misread that last comment 😅
Hey I used to own a similar compaq laptop back in 2013-15.
Mine was higher spec tho, it was a pentium t4300, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd and a super fast nvidia g103m graphics card.
Wow! That was my first laptop in 2008!
I myself had this a Vista machine. Had a heating problems if I remember. The little fan didn't have enough intake to cool itself. There was a fix buuuut back then it involved a Dremel I believe. Was an ok machine if you where patient. Lol
I've done the same upgrade with my Compaq 6735s laptop, but the fan is getting louder like a jet plane.
A loud fan is the main thing that causes me to get rid of any laptop. A laptop can be an awesome performer, but will get sent back if the fan is loud.
@@jakemccoyit's probably the cpu heating up you can just put new thermal paste without replacing the whole laptop
Best to not use chrome on a laptop, always go for edge as it works the best for laptops, especially for the battery life. But if you want more privacy, go for Firefox
Dont use DRAM-less SSDs like the one in the video (Kingston A400), unless you are gonna use the laptop for very basic usage
I carried my old laptop to the airport and the security asked me to switch it on. After a few minutes it still couldn't boot so the security just gave up.😂It's weird and rude for the security to do so but his expression was funny.
Great upgrade video.
thankyou really! I'm just a girl here and my 8y/o cousin openned the laptop my scary aunt owns and this help me fix it(I just put it back together) so that we both don't get in trouble
I bought a very cheap ex-Corporate i3 HP ProBook with no HDD for almost nothing. Put in an M.2 SSD for the system and a SATAIII SSD for the data, and maxed out the RAM with the fastest it would support, and it still flies.
I have a hp gaming notebook with gtx 950m 4gb 8gb ram 1tb hdd and 128gb ssd i5 6 gen 4 core and can play games medium settings very well for a old laptop
compaq brand, what a legend
i loved to watch ur videos every days but i also want you to make next video on TOSHIBA SATILITE 215 Laptop.
my i5 3230m nec laptop collecting dust , thankyou for the tip i wil try this one
Sir, don't know where you buy your electronic stuff but a 11$ Kingston SSD is nowhere to be found in North America. Are you sure you have the right prices cause I'm jealous. I'm in the process of doing the same thing with a 2011 Acer Aspire. But you're an inspiration and give me self confidence. Thanks.
Im not sure about the prices where you live, but here in the UK they are about £10 or $11 for a 120gb kingston a400 SSD.
Thank you for the support 🙏
this lap top like my firend's laptop but whene i try to open the back cover i break it. Just one question how can i take off the mother board??
What chipset does it have, you can upgrade the cpu
Yeah I still have a old laptop from 10 years ago I think I am going to upgrade it just to see what will happen nice video
Thank you for the support 🙏
What version BIOS does this laptop have? Manufacturer of Old laptop like my 2011 version Dell Latitude e5420 has not upgraded its BIOS after 2013, so my laptop does not even recognise SSD drive. I was unable to replace my HDD with SSD as it is not recognised, but I was able to upgrade my RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB and subsequently to 16 GB.
My laptop boots up slowly, in about 4 minutes, but it works on windows 10 reasonably fast after booting. That when Dell specifically mentions that this laptop is not supported for Windows 10.
Hi. I have the same laptop but with the "HP" logo and has 2 gb of RAM and a soul core CPU. I have upgraded the RAM to 4 GB, I will upgrade the HDD to a 480GB SanDisk in the coming days.
I still have a Compaq Presario in my closet and it hasn't been turned on for more over 10 years. But, now moved on to ASUS ROG.
Dud great Ima Try I have a computer about 13 years old Quite slow takes around 7 minutes to start up was about to sell it and buy a new one but now not Ima change it to a faster one ;)
Very awesome video!
What do you think contributed most to the speed of apps starting up/using? The SSD or the extra RAM?
SSD for sure, definitely upgrade the SSD before ram, hope this helps 👍
I would change the thermal paste to considering it's age the thermal paste has probably hardened over the years
Yes, I actually did this off camera as it was frustrating to record and do it at the same time
I upgraded my acer aspire timeline x 5830T from 4 gb to 8gb ram 500gb hdd+256 gb SSD and Intel i3 2330M usin glinux on it gives a new life to the operating system
Thank you, this is so satisfying to see.
Question, how do I pass O/S to the SSD, I mean the same win I have in the old one?
Thank you again.
👌👍 Nice video I will keep that in mind I was wondering what does that laptop score in Cinebench.
Thank you for the support 🙏 I have not tested it with cinebench, sorry
@@endlesstech_official Ok just wondering you don't have to if you don't feel like it I'm just glad I'm not the only person who wants to upgrade an old laptop. I have an old HP Previlon with I think 4GB ram and I know it has a core 2 duo and 500GB HDD I'm going to upgrade it to 8GB ram and windows 11 with 512GB SSD.
Its 100% worth it 👍
Your laptop is definitely faster than mine!😦
Reason why so slow at first is using windows 10 while having 1GB of RAM. Recommendation is 4GB RAM. But still good to upgrade no matter what
I had a faster cpu 2c 4t plus 32 Gb ram. Windows was still a mess.
@@ibobeko4309 ahh. I see, so just one of those tech mishaps that's annoying as shit

Recommendation is 4GB of RAM for windows 10 64bit version and 2GB of RAM for windows 10 32bit version. SSD is officially recommended too.
He used 1GB of RAM for windows 10 32bit (twice less then minimum minimorum), of cause it was slow.
I still use a old laptop from 2007, upgraded to 4gb DDR2 and 240GB kingston a400, turion zm82 still holds up quite well.
Can it run minecraft bedrock ?😊

intel celeron single core
ram 2gb
I'm going to give this old laptop to my little brother to play Minecraft
@@Abdulhamid-ur8wn Well, nice of you to give your old laptop to your sibling, but I am not sure if minecraft will run on a single core CPU. You can try, but even if it doesn't work, that laptop has an upgradable CPU. Get a core2duo or a pentium for it, they are super cheap.

Does the window OEM key automatic gets attached with the new installed windows? If not how to reactivate the OEM windows key.
you should debloat it to make it faster
Agree. He did do a clean install of Windows 10 and reinstalled the 4 original apps. For me,later I disabled most start up and background programs
I have old inspiron 580, getting shipped new cpu i7-870 for it. Wonder if my computer would be faster if I got an ssd before I put ugrade cpu. Right now I can watch 4k videos at about 0.67x of actual speed on vlc. Those are dash cam videos. What do you guys think yay or nay on ssd?
Yay
My dad had that laptop he still has it
Time to upgrade my 8 year old ThinkPad into a gaming pc
I am pretty sure that laptop came with over 1gb of ram. Did you remove a stick?
I have a Asus I never liked it now it’s older and not working good freezes up makes noises and slow as molasses I wonder would this work for mine and I don’t have that windows 10 program I can probably find a disk with a activation key I hope🤔

how could I forget about facebook marketplace for sata SSDs, it's just to revive an old laptop anyway, thanks
When you were at the startup menu after the upgrade, did you choose f10 bios setup?
Yes
I did upgrade a Inspiron 14 Laptop by myself which replacing the Hard Drive with SSD which i didn't realise that there was an already installed OS in the SSD which my files are still there and i installed different drivers in the laptop
5:11 If the graphics uses the the sodimm, at least for a part, maybe installing 32 bit operating system would be a better idea. In windows 10 maybe, sins it can see 3,5 GB of ram instead of the 3 GB XP only can detect, and is lighter then the 64 bit, it anyhow could work faster. And the leftover ram, the graphics card maybe able to use, depending on the system.
i found one of these in my fathers basement just wondering how do i get its drivers
how did you migrate the Operating system onto the new SSD ?
My laptop which dates back to 2011, currently has two RAM slots with 1GB in each slot, and a maximum RAM(DDR3L) capacity of 8GB in total (4GB per slot), alongside a 300GB HDD, and I have to choose between upgrading to a 128GB SSD or adding 2x4GB RAM modules to reach a total of 8GB, which upgrade should I prioritize?
Definitely the SSD, it will male it feel like a new system 👍
the fact that it boots faster than mine :)
Good upgrades and that computer would perform much better with a Linux OS., installed, such as Linux Mint.
Linux is not for the average user
@@slaydog5102 That is just a matter of opinion and we are all entitled to our opinions.

The SSD is the kingston a400 and the ram you have to get the one for your laptop most likely ddr3 or ddr4, you can get any but a branded one like crucial or sk hynix are always better and reliable.
