Haven't watch this video, yet. But I wanted to say thank you, Preston. I've watched most of your videos several times over because you really do cause me to think differently about this world of Ice and Fire and it's a nice escape from our reality.
I'd rather know about a bad pussy than a fat, pink mast. (Choosing between evils). P.o.V. Characters are hopelessly blind. It's amazing so many of them are living, frankly.
Yeah, I expected "Brynden Rivers" or "time traveling Bran" or something. Craster's Keep was unexpected though it definitely makes sense. Pretty sure all this fits neatly with one of Preston's overarching ideas; the Children of the Forest are playing the humans and the Others off against each other. Neither is a threat by themselves, but the Children are Littlefingering them both
I think you're completely right about Qhorin wanting Jon to unite the wildlings and march them south, it makes too much sense to think otherwise. I always assumed Qhorin was talking about the threat of the Others rather than the wildlings but you covered a lot of smaller things I overlooked.
Just wanna say good job keeping your videos entertaining, books and TV show alike. Preston, have you considered the possibility that Ghost had a glass candle? If he did, and the Half-Hand knew about it, that could explain his concern for Ghost. Ghost is most likely working for Doran Martell.
I was just about to go to bed when I saw the notification on my screen. You have no idea how hyped I am to see what crazy theory Preston came up with this time!
Nice video, I can't wait for the Craster's Keep video. I've actually wanted you to explain it for a while and you kind of did in your "What Your Missing" episodes but now you can go in depth. I'm so excited!
i always thought "the trees have eyes again" was a foreshadow of blood raven and the children of the forest using the weir wood network and becoming invested. And people like Quorin Halfhand can feel or sense it cause they're beyond the wall so much / the wall isn't blocking its magic. Great vid again !
Man, I can't wait for the Craster video(s)... I have some BIG personal theories about Craster... such as, I believe there is a very good chance that Craster has Valyrian blood, and that Craster's murder is a MUCH more significant event than we have yet read...
I think that his Valyrian blood is part of the reason that the Others take his babies. I don't think it's just so simple as "I give you baby boys you leave me alone". I think that the TV show (with which at this point GRRM was still heavily involved) kinda tiptoed around it by giving us the scene of the Night King turning the baby into a baby White Walker. If in book, as in show, the Others are a creation of the Children of the Forest, then I think Crasters babies are how Others are created today. One thing I forgot to mention in the original comment was that not only does Craster have Valyrian blood, but also has a bit of Stark blood as well. I think that the reason the Others are mobilizing NOW is the birth of Jon Snow. If R+L=J comes to fruition in the books, which I believe it will, and Craster has the bloodlines that I mentioned, then the Others want Jon to basically become the next Craster and produce sons to become future Others (which became all the more important when he was murdered). Jon would have the blood of the Starks, and the blood of Valyria by his Targaryen father. I postulate that Craster is descended either from Bloodraven after his disappearance beyond the Wall, which would explain Valyrian blood, and a wildling woman descended from Bael the Bard, or from two wildlings, one or more of whom were descended from Lyseni traders or slavers who were trading or slaving north of the Wall. So the Others want Craster's babies and Jon's future babies. This is probably in response to a pact that was made between the Others and men/COTF during the final days of the Long Night. I really think that in the big scheme of things, the ASOIAF events are really a war between the Others and the COTF, and men are the unwitting pawns to both parties along the way. I know that was a lot, but I welcome disagreement and challenges to my theory. To quote a very insightful ASOIAF youtuber: "I'm probably wrong about half of this". (edit for typos)
Oh yeah, there is a very good chance that someone else has had this theory before, so I'm not sure I can take credit for it, but I didn't lift that from anywhere, it's just my own reckoning...
Raydrick Davis I've given a lot of thought to who Craster's first wife may have been, and I completely left this out in my OP, but it may be possible that SHE was the one of Valyrian blood, and Craster has none. This would explain why he breeds with his daughters (out of necessity for the Valyrian blood they inherited from their mother/ Crasters first wife). But, keeping bloodlines pure through incest goes all the way back to old Valyria I believe, so that may have been a custom he learned from HIS mother. I suppose they are equally plausible, but if it's the former, that puts a little hole in my OP theory (or at least obscures it a bit).
Raydrick Davis and no, I don't think he was ever a member of the Watch himself, but his willingness to trade and share information with them may lend creedence to him being descended from Bloodraven, who was a Lord Commander.
I just want to thank you for your continued work. I never comment and sad to say I don’t always remember to hit that like but you’ve still been an integral voice on many a car ride and work hour. Thanks for the company. Oh and I fucking love Roy Dotrice and was saddened by yours and Red Teams...review.
I think that Qhorin talks about qualities such as bravery, speed, and strength merely because they constitute merit of a fighter. And since he's a fighter himself it just seems natural. Why would he mention something like faith, sense of community, love and family when his vows make him reject most of it? Other than this minute detail a pretty cool theory. Keep it up! :)
Qhorin's plan has one major weakness: Jon doesn't actually have Stark blood. I mean, obviously, he's the son of Ser Pounce and Dany's time-travelling fetus that everyone assumed Mirri Maz Duur killed.
Khaled S the theory that B+A=J Preston made? I don’t quite believe that part. I think R+L had twins which are Dany and Jon. Of course Ned coming back with 2 bastards would have been a bit strange. So he went to Starfall together with Ser Arthur and did see Ashara. They then decided that Ned takes the boy and raises him as his bastard, while Ashara takes care of Dany. Ashara and Arthur faked their deaths, Ser Arthur joining the Night’s Watch, later the wildlings and rallying the real north with his new identity of Mance Rayder. Meanwhile Ashara took Dany to Braavos, where Illyrio did switch her with to whom Aerys‘ wife gave birth to. Ashara‘s new identity was Quaithe
I'm a firm believer in 'The order of the Green hands' theory that Qhorin,Thormund & Mance are the Three Kingsguard from the Tower of Joy and they're theory makes sense of everything in these vids,, worth watching for those who have'nt seen yet.
Do you find it weird that Osha claims Mance hasn't ever known a true winter? Her argument is that she was born north of the Wall, as was her mother, ect... but so was Mance and Mance's mother (supposedly). I also find it strange she calls him a "brave sweet stubborn man", which to me seems to conflict with the demeanor Mance puts on around the wildlings.
I can't help but wonder about Benjen Stark when watching this as Benjen's fate is currently unknown and he may have a great many answers, including surrounding Qhorin
I’m pretty much convinced that minus the result of the battle of fire, the Winds of Winter will be soooooooo different to the show, I’m giddy thinking about this. The conspiracies north of the wall with Craster, Bloodraven and the Children are going be insane.
An idea for series as Winds of Winter may never come. All theories that Preston discard and why? Starting with R+L=J vs R+L=D, I mean Preston knows best.
You somehow forgot the prologue of the first book: Half of that chapter is about fading fires because of the Others, cold winds and trees that can see. -the dead wildlings hat a firepit but no fire -Weymar Royce doesn't allow fire but Gared mentions that fire keeps "some" ennemies away -"A cold wind was blowing out of the north, and it made the trees rustle like living things" -"...Will had felt as if something was watching him, something cold..." -"Frost fallen leaves whispered past them..." -"...but the real ennemy is the cold..." -"A cold wind whispered through the trees. His [Weymer's] cloak stirred behind him like something half-alive."
The whole plan to connect the Starks with the Night's Watch and the Wildlings in a grand alliance against the Others was conjured by Qhorin from the beginning. Very nice.
And we're back thank you Preston I'm glad to see Chad's alive but can you please get my boy out of that crazy Matrix of Westworld it's worse than Westeros
The first men agreed to take up worship in front of weirwoods not to worship the weirwoods meaning that the weirwoods and old goods only have a make believe connection.
Just can't get enough of this artwork of all the characters. Brilliant art style! Whoz up for the full book series az a 18+ cartoon? Just keep D&D away from it.
I've been thinking about craster's keep too lately, and it all funnels down to a two things: Any kind of incest (the more incestuous the better) produces children with TP or TK. Craster's children are made this way so that their ice magic and their corpse-controlling would be strong.
Jeor Mormont - why he ever gone to the wall? --> from awoiaf ↑ Jeor states that he has been in the Night's Watch longer than Alliser Thorne (A Game of Thrones, Tyrion III), who joined the Night's Watch at the conclusion of Robert's Rebellion, implying that Jeor had joined prior to the war's start. While Jeor states that he had been Lord Commander at the time Alliser joined, more recent sources, both canon (A Storm of Swords, Jon I & Jon VIII) and semi-canon (George R.R. Martin's A World of Ice and Fire) contradict this statement, making at least the fact that he was Lord Commander at the time invalid. It is still likely, however, that Jeor had already joined the Night's Watch at the time.
5:31 Asha also gets all excited when they have Bran captive wanting to take him back north to Mance even though they are terrified and fleeing the north but shes willing to take him north to mance before the turn cloak ranger shoots down this idea. Which she not going to be able to take him alone.
This, as usual, is a very interesting theory, but if it’s never explained or answered it feels like either bad writing to not explain it, or just not thought out enough and a total accident by the author.
The trees have eyes again? have'nt the Children of the forest always being there? and hasn't Bloodraven being in the Weirwood net for best part of fifty years? why suddenly notice it now?
Gotta admit - as a collective the Stark family kinda seems like Larry Stu's - I mean, they've got special wildling king's blood and can warg and it just kinda seems a bit much in retrospect.
Not really all the major lords of the Seven Kingdoms either descend from kings or married into kingly families. The Reeds came from the Marsh kings and Jogen is a greenseer as well
Maybe he might have just meant the starks could rally the north back up to defend the wall from mance. Since the Starks have always respected the nights watch and helped the nights watch in times like this. But your theory does make sense.
Preston great video I was just wondering if you were aware of a video done on the same subject by the order of the greenhand. Where they concluded that job had seen a pair of glowing eyes which they presume to be from a child of the forest and they thoughtthat Quaren the halfhand sounded afraid that the children might be back as well?? Edit Completely forgot to mention but they also think that the 3 kingsguard from the tower in dorne aren’t dead and that the halfhand is one of them with the former lord commander of the kings guard being tormund and ser Arthur Dane actually being mance rayder
HEY! I've been planning to do a video about Craster's Keep and how important Gilly's baby is, I assume yours is going to be very similar to mine, I'm not sure I can make it before you put yours out though hmm lol
Damn, I don't know what to feel about the Weirwood trees. I guess maybe they both love and hate humanity, because of the many individuals who have been absorbed by them.
You'd think that individual identities got merged to a point in which there's no longer anything resembling individuality in them. I could be wrong, though.
Rhaenyra Reigns Perhaps. It's really hard to imagine what would be going on in such network. But George says that the battle between good and evil is fought within a person's heart, whether it's just one mind at this point, it still has all the experiences. There's an interesting line in a Storm of Swords, when the Brotherhood is about to hang Merrett Frey. Beric Dondarrion is dead at this point and they have no reason to lie but they say "My lord, sad to say, Lord Beric was needed elsewhere. The times are troubled, and there are many battles to fight." Maybe Beric went into the Weirwood net to change something.
I get you. I just wanted to throw a small counterpoint. So far everything is possible. The Winds of Winter should provide some answers and give us a general direction in which our guessing should follow. I'm basically waiting for GRRM's clues 'cause we can't give a conclusive stand on this issue. Yet. :)
Preston Jacobs, I have never heard your thoughts on what happened when Tyrion meet Tysha. I would be very interested in hearing your take on that misadventure.
i have a question about something that has always confused me in ASOIAF and maybe it'll be interesting enough for you to delve deeper there. it is regarding illustrations of the known world as a somplete planet. I don't know how 'official' these are, but i guess what confuses me is the idea that sotoryos would form the south pole there, or similarly is far too far south for its climate. i am a layman, but I would've thought this planets (if it is a planet) equator runs through the summer sea at least, if not through sotoryos. this calls into question so much. not only might there be another continent beyond the sunset sea, but there might be a whole southern hemisphere as well. how big a threat are white walkers for that? are there even more white walker invasions and even more subspecies of children of the forest elsewere? are we even dealing with a planet at all or are the weird climate dimensions and the weird seasons intertwined somehow?
Hey Preston, haven't you noticed that Qhorin is talking about "the north" rather than "The North"? I think it's a proof that he didn't mean a specific region of Westeros.
Would this be an example of the kimdissi philosophy again? The old gods set the watch and the wildlings against the others and let them destroy each other? In your pink letter series, you argued Mance and tormund work for the children, and if Quorum does too, the children seem to really want jon and the wildlings to fight someone
The part about kings doing what they will and the best hope being Winterfell rallying the North when read in context obviously means out of all the kings in the realm their best chance is with Robb Stark. He reffered to him as Winterfell in the same way some might talk about the US government doing something as Washington doing it or the same thing London (for the UK), Moscow (for Russia) or Beijing (for China).

The whole plan to connect the Starks with the Night's Watch and the Wildlings in a grand alliance against the Others was conjured by Qhorin from the beginning. Very nice.
Obv, the Halfhand and King beyond the Wall are in cahoots with each another.
I can't wait for more
And we're back thank you Preston I'm glad to see Chad's alive but can you please get my boy out of that crazy Matrix of Westworld it's worse than Westeros
I've been thinking about craster's keep too lately, and it all funnels down to a two things:
Any kind of incest (the more incestuous the better) produces children with TP or TK.
Craster's children are made this way so that their ice magic and their corpse-controlling would be strong.
Liking before even getting to the video bc any Preston video is gonna be quality
He trained us well.
Jeor Mormont - why he ever gone to the wall? --> from awoiaf
↑ Jeor states that he has been in the Night's Watch longer than Alliser Thorne (A Game of Thrones, Tyrion III), who joined the Night's Watch at the conclusion of Robert's Rebellion, implying that Jeor had joined prior to the war's start.
I thought she was thinking of a blackmail situation but perhaps not.
This, as usual, is a very interesting theory, but if it’s never explained or answered it feels like either bad writing to not explain it, or just not thought out enough and a total accident by the author.
Yeeeeeaaaaaah!! Thanks! I need content, since Winds of Winter wont ever come out
The trees have eyes again? have'nt the Children of the forest always being there? and hasn't Bloodraven being in the Weirwood net for best part of fifty years? why suddenly notice it now?
Gotta admit - as a collective the Stark family kinda seems like Larry Stu's - I mean, they've got special wildling king's blood and can warg and it just kinda seems a bit much in retrospect.
Not really all the major lords of the Seven Kingdoms either descend from kings or married into kingly families. The Reeds came from the Marsh kings and Jogen is a greenseer as well
I don’t understand why so few likes. PJ is ,IMO, the ASOIAF content creators going!
Maybe he might have just meant the starks could rally the north back up to defend the wall from mance. Since the Starks have always respected the nights watch and helped the nights watch in times like this. But your theory does make sense.
Secrets of crasters keep? Come on now! That sounds awesome!
helluva cliffhanger P.
Edit
Completely forgot to mention but they also think that the 3 kingsguard from the tower in dorne aren’t dead and that the halfhand is one of them with the former lord commander of the kings guard being tormund and ser Arthur Dane actually being mance rayder
And we are back
Oh boi am I keen for the secrets of Craster's keep vid
That cliffhanger!
Better than any audio book.
Preston should record ASoIaF audiobooks with a commentary.
May I suggest putting a link to the 1st part into the description?

Hey Preston, haven't you noticed that Qhorin is talking about "the north" rather than "The North"? I think it's a proof that he didn't mean a specific region of Westeros.
Yep. I'm in.
i just knew PJ was gonna hook me up for my nameday.
RAISE THE BANNERS!
Happy name day! Don' kill anyone ,it's bad luck.
congrats, dont kill anyone eh
Happy name day to you!
Happy name day to you!
Happy name day to you dear DireCrow!
Happy name day to you!
your Grace is too kind.
thank you very much.:)
