Yes to that! And I am not ocd but it makes a lot more sense and will probably lead to less mess in the future.
I would do left side appliances and right side food. Heavy appliances/most used ones at the bottom and light at the top.
Group food items together by use baking, breakfast, snacks, grains, starches, cooking sauces and so on. Also, get bins for speciallity items and store at the ypper shelves as they otherwise take up premium easy to reach space.

I dont think you need ocd to feel this way frankly it seems the logical common sense and most efficient way to group like with like.
Drives me insane when people think just wanting to have things organised and neat and everything in its place and home is somehow ocd (not you mind you but randoms thinking anyone who isnt a hot mess is somehow ocd)

How to fight overwhelm while organizing:
    Step one trash
Step two: easy stuff that's in the wrong place (you did a lot of this)
Step 3: visibility rule - what catches your eye? Walk out and back in. The biggest eyesores make the biggest impact.
Take before and after pictures, set a timer and take at least a break when it goes off.
    You can do it!!!!

We have a rescue cat who was kept in a 2x2 box for the first 10 months of her life at a "rescue". We got her when the police needed people to foster all the animals that they seized when they raided said "rescue". She didn't know how to jump and was really weak and struggled to walk distances. Now we have fully adopted her she is just a special blessing to our family that brightened our lives. She has terrible separation anxiety and can't be left alone or she freaks out, so I bought one of those cat bubble backpacks and she goes where we go if no one is going to be at home.

I like your suggestion. Categories like "baking" would have all your sugars, flours, choc chips, that brownie mix, baking soda, etc. Then another section could be "sides" like beans, rice, pastas, quinoa, potato products. I like how she put the beans above the rices. I'd continue to make a row (about 6-12 inches wide) from top shelf to bottom shelf for all sides, keeping same "kind of product together".

Save the Kitchen Aide for Hailey! It would be great for her having her grandmother’s appliance and she’s not that far from leaving home at 18! As far as organizing the pantry, you could do what my sister-in-law does and alphabetize everything! It’s a pain for me to put something away in it because I have to stand there and sing the alphabet song to myself a few times but it’s easy for her to find something! She does her spices the same way! I am not that OCD! Basically, I would separate and group together all your baking supplies, canned goods, pantry staples ( like rice, pasta, beans etc.), snacks, and all your health products like protein powders etc. and breakfast items like pancake mixes, cereals, pop-tarts etc.! I would put all the appliances and big pots that won’t fit in your cabinet together! And I’m at a loss for your spaghetti squash - can you cut them up and freeze them?

I feel like you need to take advantage of the height of the shelves by using taller storage containers or add in an additional shelf so there is less wasted vertical space. You might also benefit from painting the inside of your pantry white. It makes it brighter and you can see all that you have better.
I also break up my pantry into zones and then tidy the zones throughout the week as you use items from the pantry. If I have some items that have been in there a while and need to be used up I put them in a specific location in the pantry so that I remember to use them up. It's all about inventory management. You have so much more to manage than I do so maybe my suggestions won't work for you.

Hi Christine, you’re getting there!! As an Organizer, follow these rules. 1) Every item needs a home so zone your areas once sorted and label on the shelf. This will create boundaries. 2) always store like with like so you’re correct with pasta together, grains, baking etc. 3) In/out rule - only purchase what’s needed as things run out. 4) Label everything! This helps items that get decanted be put in the right place ex remove the stickers from Walmart containers and label with Granola Bars, Energy Bars, protein bars etc. it will help greatly with maintenance 😊

Ohhhhh....me too!!! I DREEEEAAAMMM of an actual closet pantry!! Yes-the cabinet is so deep and there’s not much room at the front so everything is constantly getting shuffled around and, AND, I have to keep a flashlight in there so that I can see what’s in the back! Crawling down on the floor to find and get to what’s on the bottom shelf? Anyone? 🙋‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Loved this one Christine! It feels like just yesterday you did your last pantry clean out! Maybe on the first shelf off the floor you could put all the food on one side? You could even move the breakfast where the beans are, the beans right next to the rice, and then scooch all the appliances and containers to the left! Just an outside perspective but of course you do you girl 😉

    Just some suggestions 😁
Id place the biggest and heaviest appliances on the floor. Also any big food bags or boxes.
Id place all other appliances on the bottom shelf.(keeping similar things together makes it easier to find)
Id place all snacks and treats on the shelf second from the bottom. Makes it easy to view and access for your kids.
On the very top shelf I'd place anything that is RARELY used.
Use the other middle shelves for everything else. Ie rice, beans, pasta, oils, spices, breakfast items. Place most used items in the center of shelves and lesser used item on the sides.
It is absolutely not a waste of space to line your beans like that. Always best to have things as visible as possible. That way you're always aware of what you have and how much you have of them.
Also Labels are KEY, not just for display but also because it lets everyone in the family where things go. This makes it more likely that everyone will put things back in the same place and ultimately make your organization last longer.

My pantry is organized by shelf. Top shelf is appliances (although one instant pot, my coffee maker, and kitchen aid are out all the time). Next one down is baking stuff like flours, chocolate chips, sugars, etc. Next one is cooking stuff like rice, beans, canned tomatoes, jar sauces, etc. Next one is stuff for the kiddo and husband like breakfast cereals, bars, snacks, and easy lunches. The bottom shelf is mostly random storage containers, travel mugs, mixing bowls, and canning jars. Bulk rice, vinegar, baking soda, etc go on the floor.
Having a theme for each shelf keeps it organized and helps my kiddo know where to put groceries away.

    My mantra on organizing?
    "Like with like"
I am still not there, but gradually getting my reserves in shape. So yes - bars in a general area, pastas in a general area, baking items (flours all in one area, baking powder/soda, sweeteners etc. nearby, etc. ) Like with like works in the kitchen and in workshops, bedrooms, laundry rooms.
    Life gets simpler! Gradually...

Collect empty shoe boxes, cover them with contact paper and label. It's a cheap and tidy way to store small boxes, odd shape packages, baggies, bars etc. Another inexpensive idea is a clear plastic hanging shoe holder. Great for snack bars, gravy mixed, seasonings, anything smaller than a shoe!

Best piece of advice I have for organizing a pantry is “like with like” and not just rice with rice but all grain together; all breakfast stuff together; all canned items; put your tools together on one shelf; snacks; etc. I saw you put two big bins of bars on one shelf and then the little bin of bars on a different shelf. Also take the labels off the bins because it makes it look messier than it is, you don’t need fancy labels though. I find myself using bins for different items depending on what I’ve stocked up on, kinda like what you did with the bars.

    You are so great!!!!
Here are a few tips... stickers off containers, or flip to not see, or make a label out of paper to hide old label.
Put all like things together- all appliances, pots, pan, mixers all on floor and the shelf above that. All grains and bean together ect. All things baking together(mixes, flours, chocolate chips). Clear containers are always best for storage when buying so you can see what is in them. ♡ Clear storage shoe boxes work amazing with lids for stacking or without lids for bigger thing. And the are only 1$.
GREAT tips in organizing, remember all like things together!♡
Another thought...You could use left side of panty for food and panty. And right side for appliances and pans?!

When I do this, I move everything large, then I work from top to bottom. I check dates on everything as I group similar items together. Once everything is out, I wash the shelves top to bottom. Then take my groups, light stuff goes on the top, heavy stuff like cans or jars go on the bottom. stuff I use the most or need to use like fresh produce or things that expire soon go to the front where it will be the first thing that I see. That is just me and what I do may not work for you but I hope it helps someone.

I can’t believe you are getting rid of your kitchen aid mixer! 😳 Say what what! I couldn’t live without mine, and I used to use it for a small baking business I had, where I sold my baked goods at our local farmers market! you might want it later on in life when you don’t have everyone living at home. But I know you really like your Bosch, so I guess two is not needed. You sound the same as me when it comes to organizing, it’s such a painful process for me. Luckily I have a daughter in law who loves to come over and organize! You are doing a great job! 😃

I think I need to drive to Idaho with matching/coordinating bins and my label maker! lol I so badly wanted to jump through the screen and help! My advice...take EVERYTHING out, group like items together, then put back. One shelf for appliances/pots/etc. Then all baking together, then all canned together, rice/potatoes, together etc. For the protein bars/granola bars...stand them up in the baskets like a filing cabinet so you can easily see them all and not have to dig through the basket. :) Thanks for sharing this with us.

Heavy stuff at the bottom like your instant pots or flour bins. After that, go by use of the items doing sections. Breakfast, snacks, cooking deserts ingredients... For your beans, use a little metal shelf like the one for the snacks. And do your sections vertical. Ex: Do a 1-2 feet section on one shelf for breakfast. If you have more, put it over or under instead of going 3-4 feet long on the same shelf. Put all your pasta, rice in side by side section. Same for the cans. Fruit one side and veggies/tomatoes together. Put together what you use for the same kind of meal. And one section for your specialty ingredients. Last, put hangers on the wall for your broom, mops...

Plastic shoe boxes with lids work REALLY well for the snack bars & other snacks. Lids make it easy to stack & each shoe box can have a different type of bar in it. If you get clear ones you can see which type is in each shoe box.

Organize any way that makes sense to you. I have a 5x5 IKEA Kallax in my kitchen (because I do not have a pantry) and each cube has either drawers or a bin. Each bin is labeled: baking stuff, canned veggies, pasta, (my fave is "rice, rice baby" 😂), etc. This works for me because I have to put things in the correct bin, and that helps me keep it organized. I also have a 4x2 Kallax that stores my crockpots, etc., I just need to get the doors for each cube. Definitely worth the investment!! (I used gift cards!!)

  • @joannedebenedetto8431
    @joannedebenedetto8431 3 ปีที่แล้ว

You have great space. You have to make sections for different categories of items.
There is no need to put some food items in another storage place you mentioned. You can keep the extra items in the same pantry. Like the 2 little boxes of jello. Big bulky items yes in your basement storage. And if you label your pantry shelves it will be obvious to everyone where the items are kept.
