The best explaination of drift fishing I've ever heard. Thanks so much. I've watched hundreds of hours of fishing shows and I have never heard it explained so well. I feel comfortable enough to try it myself.
I gave drift fishing a try a few days ago. Easier said than done. Maybe fish brain set in, it was hot. I think I need a private lesson. Are you girls still doing charters? I look at your website but didn't see any.
I just found you ladies yesterday. And can’t believe what I have been missing all this time. You are both great at what you do. And explain things In the exact way that I learn best. And I will be using your videos in conjunction with my hands on training with my 9 grandchildren. And these are not all boys. My 11 year old granddaughter can’t wait to “get her Captains License”. Keep the information coming. And don’t loose yourself with the Algorithms, Art
Thank you both for the instruction. You have taught me more in an afternoon of watching then in the last 5 years of guessing with my buddies. You ladies rock!!
You girls are by far the best fishing show on the youtube. Please if you can try and teach some of these other guys how to properly put a fishing tutorial show. BIG FAN!!!!!!
hello ladies, your knowledge of fishing is amazing, i know your history of working on charters, then getting your Captains certificate, you two really earned it !!! and if i understood your explination on drifting, everyone else did! lol keep up the great content, be safe, thank you
Great job in detailing this ladies. I get tired of all the videos of fish catching without any explanation of what is happening. I watched all of this video and there was not a fish caught anywhere in it, well, except for the bump....LOL! Great content!
Hey- thans so much for the tutorial. I've watched many guys in smaller boats and kayaks drift a spot, but never gave enough details for me to duplicate what I saw. THANKS
Holy Toledo the GFT's are the hardest working fishing girls on the TH-cams! Killing it with the content and the uploads! Nice coordinated outfits! Wear the same color hats and drive every one nuts trying to figure out who's whos! LOL! Love it! You 2 are 2x the awesomeness! Just like a master class in the great outdoors fishing channel. Please stay safe down in FL! Coronavirus is out of control! Stay on the water Social isolate and don't forget to wash those dam fishing poles! LOL! Cheers o,o
Good stuff! I like to set my drift just off from my spot to not hard-spook and fish that may be on or near the surface by driving over or near them, and always start with a non-motor powered drift and have a pitch bait ready for any of said fish.
Thanks for the great instructional video. One day we'll have a boat of our own and both of us will be at the helm. I am saving this to Favorites to watch again... and again. You Captains are awesome!! :) Also, nice to see you have a good camera that gives us 4K. Full screen. Your videos are getting better and better, technically speaking! Well done all around, Amanda and Emily!! :)
This is great information! I want to mention a sea anchor is a great way to slow the drift and also keep the bow into the sea. Having a sea anchor onboard is also a good idea in the event power is lost, it will keep your bow into the sea until help arrives. Great Video as always! Tight lines captain Tony
Another great video guys. Thanks. On the knot to connect the leader to the braid, have you tried the Alberto knot? I used to tie Uni-to-Uni, but the Alberto is easier to tie and feeds through the guides a lot easier. Also a super strong knot, I’ve caught many tarpon and the knot has never failed me.
Cool video. We do a little different in SF. I am a captain as well. We use up to 2 drift socks but point the bow with the current to go about 1 mph to 2mph. We get tidal change all the time so we are always pointed in all sorts of direction throughout the day.
You should do a "bait" video. How to de-bone.... what to avoid wasting money on (wally world junk)... Etc. Go over different baits for everything. You could actually get a series going, since it's such a wide array of knowledge. Hook sizes, types of hooks to use, and leaders with the baits. Maybe follow up with jigs to use, versus ones to avoid, etc, etc. Also, how to make different leaders- or how to make leaders at all. Had to teach myself. I know a lot these days, but I still learn a ton from you ladies. And again, great job. Excellent content.
Similar to what we do in smaller boats, but a lot of boaties in the 5-7.5m range are using Minn Kota electric motors to geo lock them or to slow the drift. Saves having to have the engines running all the time. Super quiet. Battery charge time is the main issue which depends a lot on conditions and how much power you need to hold/slow the boat.
I set my chart orientation to North up and use my compass to show me where my stern should be pointing, makes everything simple when current and wind differ
Are you pointing the engines into the current as opposed to the bow for more control, is it easier to keep an eye on the anglers, better visibility around the boat? Would you do this with three or more anglers fishing?
One of the benefits for me is the patch reed I fish is actually a navy mine and weapons dump where dropping an anchor on a sea mine isn’t a good idea lol
Is that a trolling release that is tied to the T top? I have been trying to figure out how that setup works if it is. I went on a payed trip and they were using spring overhead releases and I can find nothing about it since I was on that trip. If that is something tied to the T top that is used for fishing, please explain to me what it is.
When you are power drifting, don’t you want to be next to or on the wreck? And when you are cross drifting the object is to drift across or near the wreck? Love your videos!
No, the current doesn’t let your rig go straight down so you need to adjust your boat position “up current” a little so the baits end up in the right spot.
Drift sock/Sea Anchor? I’ve got a 23ft Sea Hunt 232 Triton. (Best boat I could afford) and bought a 42” Sea Anchor. 20-25 knot winds in 2-3 foot seas and I was still drifting beam to. How much bigger sea anchor do I need to keep the bow into the waves? I almost fell out of the boat it was rocking so bad. It was my third day owning my boat, I’m still learning. Asking for legit advice here
They're a grip though. I think if the fishing industry gets it's head out of it's ass, they'll end up with some sponsors soon enough. I follow GFT's, more than any sponsored pro. BlacktipH, is way underappreciated. He should have quadruple the sponsorship.
@@Silkroadvideos dude, I have a 5m aluminium boat that would weigh less than half of what their boat weighs. I have a 54lb thrust electric motor and it barely moves it! Add in some current and wind and you’re going nowhere!
sometimes yes! If we are directly over the wreck sometimes we'll reel up a few times to be just off the bottom. It really depends how big the wreck is and how close you are to it when drifting. We usually watch our bottom machine carefully and learn over time which wrecks are really "snaggy"

Thank you!!

Can you power drift with the bow towards the waves instead of the transom?
Great Video,
what about the fuel consumption? Do you take care about that or it's not insignificant?

They have electric trolling motors that link to your GPS that hold you place so nobody needs to operate the boat.

What happens when you get your line stuck on the wreck

Ladies you did a great job explaining the different drift methods. My main problem drifting is hooking the bottom. Enjoyed the video like always
If the bottom is rocky we reel up 3-4 times and drift right over it!
Dumb question- if the bait is on the bottom and you drift over a wreck. Won't the bait get hung up on the wreck?
sometimes yes! If we are directly over the wreck sometimes we'll reel up a few times to be just off the bottom. It really depends how big the wreck is and how close you are to it when drifting. We usually watch our bottom machine carefully and learn over time which wrecks are really "snaggy"
