Thank you ladys for your wisdom as i am a new recreational "captain" but nervous of what i don't know about ocean travel , planning and navigation, thank you for providing a educational video that is entertaining and easily explained, keep up the good work
As expected, another very useful lesson that is well presented. If anyone watches the channels dedicated to Haulover or other inlets you can DEFINITELY see the effect the wind can have on the seas going through a narrow channel
A good wag for me is too think hard about going offshore when waves are greater than 10% of your boat length. IE, 30 ft center console, seas greater than 3ft with short duration might get pretty snotty. Great video, you two are doing an excellent job educating those of us that aren’t charter captains.
I think you should have gone more into wave period it is very important too. I have a 25 foot cc if it was 3-4 ft at 6 seconds, I would not go out, waves are too tight. If it was 3-4 ft at 10 seconds, I would go out because they are spread apart. And could be only blowing 5-10 kts, but you might have a 5 foot swell at 6 seconds because there might be a storm way offshore
Honestly this was extremely helpful for me. Just got a Tahoe T16 boat last year. Very beginner boater. I live in Norfolk, VA so there are lots of places to go. I really didn’t understand why some days where do choppy and some days where smooth as glass. There is so much that goes into boating it kinda crazy. But once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty awesome. The wind and current conditions was like a duh moment for me. I was like oh……. That’s why it gets so choppy lol. Great job ladies
Congrats on 136k subscribers. I thought about it because I had your videos running in the background while I was doing some tasks and last March’s video where you had 80k came up (the vlog room). Great to see your continued success!
I'm in AZ, they pulled another body out of Lake Havasu yesterday. A young girl was trapped under a pontoon last month (capsized), the Monsoon is no joke, storms pop up over the mountains faster than most can react and get off the water. Our sports repoter now retired was the Father of Marquis Cooper, Raiders Linebacker. They went out fishing off the coat in Florida n a 21' single engine boat. They had motor problems acording the the only survivor of the group of 3. NEVER would I rely on one motor, nt even in the South West, and the ocean, forget it.
Another good vid, especially addressing the variables which effect actual sea conditions. One thing I might add is when using marine weather apps it's a good idea to set the location for where you will be boating. Most apps will default to your current location. For example, I live on the Northshore of Long Island (Long Island Sound) but my boat is kept on the South Shore and I fish the Atlantic. The conditions vary significantly between where I live and where I actually boat.
If it's too windy then you fish that are coaster waterway or you fish a bay or somewhere it gives you shelter but you'll still get fish especially on the intercoaster waterway if it's tears you go back in a small Bay or cove and fish the coat for the day or do inshore fishing on a doctor a shoreline but make sure you fish a cove or fish a bay or deer Island there's a bay nearby fish it with his too windy you'll get more fish if you stay in shore
Hey GFT, just wanted to take the time to say thank you. I watch your videos and from them and a life changing experience I had I decided to get my 6 pack license. I just received my TWIC card and medical card. My license will be here in a few weeks i hope. Keep up the great work!
You girls are Fabulous...you have good info and your always having fun..also there is several young women that do fishing and hunting videos and they often dress provocatively to get views...you gals are a class act....Thank you
Most of your fish will be Twilight or early morning that's when the big fish come out at night time with the lights on so undersized grouper gag grouper goliath grouper undersized we usually take usually maybe drive Twilight around 5:45 around 9:00 or 10:00 or 11:00 at night they'll be coming in the Big reds and stuff that's when you get them during The Fall season Atlantic golf rats will be further further out that's when you want to go to 100 ft of water start getting your shrimp trapping will work best
Fish bites use clams with mullet or cut fish I usually use the orange and I use clams fish bites orange color or green like a light green color fish bites
Great video ladies, I use many of those apps and a few others. I see to many people that DONT use good apps and well...they end up in trouble. Keep up the wonderful videos.
Thank you both for this information, this was a big help. I really needed those apps you talked about. I live in FLL and I feel like I’ve missed some boating days, but now I really know when and when not to go go. Thank you.
Great video Amanda and Emily as usual! I do not have any of the apps and I often go out of Englewood area and Southwest Florida 24 miles offshore. Guess we'll obviously help me be safe for boater for offshore grouper and snapper when I go. Keep up the great educational videos as it helps us all be safer voters and have more enjoyable fishing times.
I just wanted to say thank you I enjoy your videos. Can you make a video about safety equipment you keep on your boat. And tools that you may keep on your boat.
I have been boating since 1980 serving for 4 then owning one boat or another since then for pleasure. You are right about egos. Experienced boaters are just that, partly because they have learned about the waves that go OUCH among other things. Like what their own particular (to their vessel and geographic location) no go day parameters are. Or, as I like to explain it to my eager friends, OHN days. "Oh, Hell No" days. In my area (MA) 9 out of 10 times the wind will pick up in the afternoon. Based on direction and speed in the morning you can plan the distance and direction you will fish in to mitigate that effect. Or take a chance on a totally unnecessary afternoon beat down. As operator/owners of a boat the safety and wellbeing of your guest should be your first consideration. Well done ladies.
Amanda, Emily you guys are awesome your presentation was very convincing that you have convinced me to sell the new saltwater boat and be safe. I will get my fish from the market ,lol from Rockport, tx 🤠👍 p.s you're like the daughters that I always wanted, stay safe.
Love you guys. Wish I had this info when I had my boat. The only thing I went by was the condition it was when walked out my door. Most of that time was the early morning calm. I would usually go out early with the plan to return early afternoon because there was always an afternoon breeze. I live in Torrance CA just south of Los Angeles and fished the Catalina channel. 8 miles out of angels gate was my limit and there were sometimes it was a rough ride back in. Always fun though !
Love the Video. Thanks for sharing, you are both so knowledgeable. I wanted to know if you have every seen the TH-cam videos of the crazy people leaving some inlet in Florida and the crazy wave conditions. I was wondering if that is always like that or are these videos just filmed on crazy windy days. Thanks
I would love to see this episode on noob-captain-Scott who has recently moved to the Texas coast and in the market for a fishing jet ski. He would like to fish the rig 8-10 miles offshore for Red Snapper and thinks that he can manage medium rough seas on a jet ski. Plus captain-Scott has never been on the water and is watching your videos learning all the ins-outs of navigation. Is captain-Scott going to have a short life?
Been watching all the videos to get my confidence up, thank you two for doing what you do! 2 baddies in my book!! Been bragging about you two like a proud female as you two prove woman Can too! Btw caught my 1st mahi last Sat and im hooked! 🪝 🎣 thanks again!!!
Great video as always ladies. Wish we could go out with you when we are out in Florida next month, but we will be int he Tampa area and that is a bit north of where you are. I use Android, not iPhone/iPad, so only some of those apps are available for Android. Here on Lake Mead we can get wind-whipped waves as big as you get on the ocean sometimes, but it can surprise you if you were in a sheltered arm and then come out to the main lake area. Might I suggest a video on how to handle a boat in large waves for such situations that you can't avoid?
I live in St Petersburg Florida. Close to Johns Pass. We have a 24 foot center console boat with a step. We have not been fishing since last September just because of the weather on weekends. I would like to know how the wind effects the Gulf of Mexico since at 12 miles out the depth is only 32 feet. At 20 miles out its only 60 feet. Thank you
Go with some minnow traps or crawfish traps for shrimping and I usually just use a 4-ft net cuz you get hung up a lot in some areas but a 4-ft net should be unhung get a laying laying down landing net for flying fish as you go along you catch your flying fish hang out the landing net and flying fish will hop right on in don't forget about your Needle fish little piece of rope and some good old haken needle nose fish flying fish with a landing garfish go long med mother hole out bait run
Amanda and Emily you are awesome. Very informative channel. I love smart, beautiful and modest women. You are one of my best boating and fishing channel.
Hello I'm a great fan of yours I will like you to give me an opinion about a boat first buyer all the boats that you show they over 100 or $90,000 can you help us as viewers to find a book first time use under 30 to $40,000 give us an idea what we have to look for to buy the boat!
Man I work at a boat dealership and honestly nowadays anything in the 30-40 price range (brand new) isn't worth the hassle for the consumer to purchase as a long term investment or the manufacture to sell for a profit which is why there are so very few manufactures available in that price range. Prices have sky rocketed over the past 2 years, boats alone are up 15-20% a $60k boat in 2019 is $80k in 2022. Used boat market is just as bad We sold 3 used boats this past week alone a 2017, 2018 and a 2020 all sold for at least what it was bought for brand new the 2020 sold for more than its original purchase price. My Honest opinion do yourself a favor and buy a kayak or make some friends at the boat ramp. At least until the spiraling out of control inflation were experiencing has settled.

100 ft of water lot of King whiting Northern whiting and I catch a lot of sea bass I mean I load up a boat full of black sea bass that's all I catch all day long in the winter time squid and octopus number one squid and octopus or octopi lots of shrimp rock shrimp that's the time I go shopping a hundred feet of water and lots of mullet shad more like it colder it gets the bigger the shad shad
Awesome video! We just bought a center console and keep it at our part time vacation rental in Sombrero beach. Just starting to learn the area. Appreciate you making this for me in Marathon 😎 Very insightful. Thanks!
Use a 14 ft jon boat aluminum that's all you need is or a 10 ft Jon boat you just need a small Jon boat and a small motor he's a two horsepower motor it's fishing it's not called getting
Thank you for recording this important lesson. I’m new to Florida Keys boating and it is always a challenge to figure out wether it makes sense to even go out. My wife hates bumpy seas and makes an outing in choppy or very wavy seas an unappealing experience. So thanks again for the app refs. I’ll put them to good use.
13:27 -- That's so bizarre... never heard of the land creating a "wind shadow" that protects the in-shore area (littoral zone) before. Could you explain that further in another video, specifically how the phenomenon affects fishing that day?
Index 3 raft or collapsible boat something small a trolling motor you can put on the back of it Minn kota you don't want to go big a good new with the motor in the back of it that's the way I'll usually go or index three raft you want something small you can get them next to the next thing and you don't have to worry about it smaller the boat the bigger the fish sheepshead always does for me sheep says in spades and whiting 100 ft of water I'm getting riding all day long whiting fish King fish whiting surf fishing or in a boat it's better
You want to fish into the wind because he fish into the wind the fish are going to come closer to the shoreline if you fish the opposite of the wind it won't do you any good anyway fish into the wind the windier it is the better it is fish close to the shoreline and keep it tight as possible you lie or keep it low your rod and keep your line tight that means you'll still get a fish but you're fishing into the wind the fish comes closer to get to his bait like a rock or a pilot blocks the wind but you still get your fish
No one has this content quality about this topic. No one even talked about this much needed topic. Thank you so much
You ladies are amazing. I have a decent amount of experience, and I still watch your videos every chance I get
Nice video the only thing you may want to add is the current. If it is going with the waves are against the waves especially around the inlets
Thank you ladys for your wisdom as i am a new recreational "captain" but nervous of what i don't know about ocean travel , planning and navigation, thank you for providing a educational video that is entertaining and easily explained, keep up the good work
I worked at Duck Key Marina and the Boat House in Marathon for a while. Lived on Grassy Key. Went to the ocean every weekend. Big fun and work.
This is seriously great information and so well laid out! Thank you two!
1:17 -- Can we all just take a moment to appreciate The Twins for putting on perfect, matching makeup and perfect, matching hair for this video?
As expected, another very useful lesson that is well presented. If anyone watches the channels dedicated to Haulover or other inlets you can DEFINITELY see the effect the wind can have on the seas going through a narrow channel

We never see 10 second wave spacing in the Gulf of Mexico here in Alabama
Yes you’re VERY RIGHT CRISPY CRITER ! Wave Period is ESSENTIAL!
Good advice here
Thank u ladies, great informative video

This is literally the video I had been looking for. I’m a new boat owner and definitely family Joe 😂 thank you for putting this together.
Welcome to our channel!! We are so glad we could help 😊
Very informative. You also really slowed down your speech. Very easy for us older people to understand. Good job!!
Congrats on 136k subscribers. I thought about it because I had your videos running in the background while I was doing some tasks and last March’s video where you had 80k came up (the vlog room). Great to see your continued success!

Keep up the lovely helpful videos bc you girls look great together and so so smart, thank you…
100% agree, I don’t even look at the wave predictions anymore. I only look at the wind.
Good advice as allways.

Great video! Super useful content, especially as summer gets closer and I’m kind of a noob on the boat 😂
He's also use fish bites her crawfish I use for fish bites and a used shad for fish bites the catfish kind
