Yes you are totally right, an the pull start is very nice and the 3 port looks very workable by means of porting an polishing the carb is perfect the crankshaft is very basic an modify it looks very straightforward, you can make a screaming power plant out of this....😎✌as I would bearing for it
I have the black head pullstart version of this engine in my Hyper VS RTR buggy. It absolutely screams for an RTR engine, it is tricky to tune with the stock Carby but when it's dialed in it's an absolute monster, especially for just a buggy. Also use a start box, this engine will eat pullstarts during break in
@@anthonyroberts1097 Patience and trial and error, i swapped to a .21 for racing at the local track. Sold it. Think im gonna pick up the newer VS2 model
Question: If I want to use the Hobao Roto Start system, am I stuck buying the the black pull start engine, or will the roto start work on the red bump start engine? I think I'd have to get the pull start version, but I want to make sure before I order. I'm tired of getting blisters trying to start my OFNA Force .32 in my HPI Savage. Nice video too!
Mr. Velocity Stack your best bet is to get the pull start version and and the hobao roto start it would be cheaper and easier than converting the bump start version and you have to use the hobao roto start backplate since there wont work since the hobao bolt pattern is slightly different. And thanks.
beautiful video congratulations, so I like it! I'm about to buy this engine I love hyper ... years ago I mounted a hyper 21 7-door on a serpent 950 ... a monster !!! I would mount this on a kyosho mad force, I hope I don't have to make too many changes to mount it .... what blend do you use it with? is nitro 25% okay? which candle do you recommend for use with high ambient temperatures?
The engine should bolt right in (you’ll probably need to change the orientation of your carb to fit your application and it should be no problem.) 25% nitro is fine and I’d run an OS p3 turbo plug in it. Good luck!
The big end of that crankshaft looks JUST like a OS 18TM. Wonder where the chinese got that idea. Even the Gimar Modded Nova motors have crap inside. Always flush everything heavy before first run. Minus the carb if it's a Gimar motor, from what I heard, he sets the needles with a vacuum gauge. Don't touch the Gimar carb, they will usually start right up on the box. Only a simple idle air gap adjust to keep it running. I have since gone to a vacuum gauge for carb adjust. Puts ALL the other tuning ideas to shame. With the vacuum gauge, you don't turn a 1/16 or whatever for tuning, you turn until it flows like it was or you want.
I find it funny that you recommend this engine, but you mention tuning was difficult. It seems everyone who had this engine can't get the same tuning right. One guy said this engine blew up. There is so many of these videos that show proof this engine likes it running lean and not a good carb at all. I would have to believe the negative feedback everyone is claiming and it shows.
@@thenitronation5815 yeah I have agree with you. I'm a owner of lrp .28. Can tell you that the quality has gone down the drain. Was satisfied the spec 3 version, but the spec 4 leaking fuel around carb and bearing. Breaking it in was rough it was too rich. Anyways It doesn't hurt for me to try a habao .30 and I've never experienced a turbo racing engine so yeah should be on my list to get one. Although I was told not to trust the pullstart, but I'm gonna get it just as a backup option.
Hey bud I got my hands on this engine. Plan on swapping out the carb, but can't figure out what o ring to use on the neck carb? Saw you fitted nova 28 with that o ring. Its too big. The lrp o rings will work, but what other ones that fit out there.
Have you ran this with a pull start it's shit I have had mine for just over a year and had to replace the crank as the stupid cops system damaged the crank so it would start and the carb is terrible and not only that but it dosent hold a tune for shit and the pull starts are weak af yh I agree it has good power it guzzles fuel like mad
Andrew robinson I’ve never had that issue with mine it’s 1.5 years old and it’s gone though only one pull start and the crank is in perfect shape, yes I will agree it can be a little finicky to tune but It’s not that bad. And yes it’s a pig on fuel but what do you expect it’s not a .21 it’s a .30.
Nitro Nation i wish i could put me lrp .32 modded in my hobao mt truck but engine mounts dont fit as this engine is good in buggies and truggys but the mt its a pain in the ass the pull starts are some green died string that fails extremely easy i bought one and tested it it stood up to 8.9kgof pulling force my lrp pull start 13kg im wondering if i could re wrap one or get an adapter made and use an lrp or mod it and put a one way bearing in it and use a roto start for now im running it electric 6s power
AUDY PEREZ this engine has lots of bottom end like most 3 pot engines have but the 28-8 has long legs and will catch up quickly I’ll have to do a competition one day since I have both engines and I’ll check it out

I like this engine I have the black head .30 very powerful

Eugene Haggerty no your awesome! Thanks.
Do a collection video dude
daily riden horses what do you want to see?
How long is the engine mount? Does it fit on a kyosho mad kruiser?
All 1/8 engines have the same bolt pattern.

Tune when the engine is warm, don’t tune by temps.

I mean the engine it’s self is pretty good quality. The carbs are okey but I definitely find them to be better quality than lrp.

lrp is way better made and alot faster
I disagree, performance is about the same but fit, finish and quality of the hobao is better in my opinion.
