What a fabulous thing it is to have robot to guide me along with servicing the GTS. I have now done 3 belt and rollers and now completed the tappet service on a HPE 300.. Many thanks Robot, you are A STAR... cheers Brian
I have wanted a Vespa for several years due to the uniqueness and historical nature of the beasts! This year I finally got my 2022 GTS HPE. It is an absolutely superb machine and well appreciated after many years of motorcycling. Thanks to ScooterWest for feeding my passion with Robots videos and accessory suggestions. I have become a loyal follower of Robot's school of Vespa maintenance and Fabio for assisting me in my initial purchase of required accessories and knowledge. A superb company and philosophy and one which I look forward to supporting my needs for all things Vespa for years to come! Thanks to all of the staff!
It's a beautiful thing to watch a professional technician who knows the machine so well and has the tools/skills to do the job flawlessly. Thanks for this excellent lesson on the new HPE design, Robot. I have the older 2014 GTS 300 and I'm still working up enough lust to upgrade to the new HPE. I like to hear the plus and minuses of going away from the ease of the old machine to capture the perks of the new Vespa 300. The valve adjusting so reminded me of the 1971 Fiat 850 Spider I owned as a pup. I street Fixed It Again and again so many times my name should have been Tony. Knowing this level of workmanship pride still exists at Vespa Motorsport leads me toward a trade to new. See you guys as soon as the piggy bank is ready to break open again.
I would not buy the new 300 HPE here in central Florida Service is horrible parts on back order or the dealer just does not care. Mine was one week old and I lost it for 8 weeks wile the factory figured out why it would not crank or start warm. They finally replaced the entire engine. My Ft fender bracket was broke, Its been a year still waiting for a replacement. If I lived in Cali I would buy one from Scooter West in a heart beat. However I miss my old 2015 300 Vespa. The engine was less noisy and I felt it was a better engine. I was a idiot and never changed the anti-freeze in 4 years. ( 8 K miles ) It corroded out the cylinder head soft plug. If I had been smart I would have paid the service and kept the old Vespa. So sorry I traded.
As a car mechanic for 15 years and just having a vespa for the last two years i find your videos the best. Attention to detail is amazing. It's just the little things like making sure the cooling fan works, it's takes time to check, but this is the difference between someone who cares and just doing the minimum to get the service done. I have a 2019 300 gts, the last model before the HPE and am looking to get the Lambda Emulator TURBO KIT, Fuel Injection Module PM Tuning, TFI and Racing Air Filter POLINI 90 PWK (which I will modify to fit) would love to pick ur brain on install/tuning tips or even a video to upload of how top do it. I've got the Remus dual exhaust fitted already. Unfortunately malossi don't make a foam filter for this model so I've had to make do. Would love ur feedback. Michael
For GT200 I would recommend adding to check the reed valve inside the carburetor every few thousand miles for any wear on the wings (Keihin) since it did happen quite often that those wings sort of cracked and threw small particles into the engine. That obviously caused severe damage. Thank you Robot for the great videos you make! I completely agree with not underestimating the valve clearance checking. I am now working on a Vespa were it was not serviced, the outlet valve was not closing properly which caused it to fall apart and inside the motor. Then you can imagine what happened next. Cheers and take care!
Very professional and nice explanations ! I live in France and have the competitor : the Honda SH 300 but I love also the GTS 3OO ! I can see that it's a little bit complicated for service for the Vespa, but, I would like to buy one !!!!!! Thank you so much ! Passion is in your video too !
Absolutely fantastic stuff on your channel!!! Driving the same model in same color since 3 years, it runs at 2,7 liters a 100km, but is really hungry for oil and the fuel sensor quit its job about a year ago... But I still love this scooter so much! This channel is by far the best I've found concerning Vespas. Really a "must" for every Vespa-Owner 😂 Keep going, have fun, all the best for you all at Vespa Motorsport! 🙏 Chris form Austria...
Great video. Regarding “Safety Blocks” I’ve read elsewhere online that should be “Safety locks” which would include fasteners key to safe operation: Rear shock absorber upper fitting Rear shock absorber lower fitting Lower front shock absorber fitting Front wheel shaft nut Front wheel screws Rear wheel screws Front and rear wheel hub nut Front and rear brake caliper clamping screws Frame - swinging arm bolt Swinging arm bolt - engine Engine arm pin - Frame arm Handlebar lock nut Lower steeering ring nut Upper steering ring nut
Thank you Robot and Scooter West. I ordered the service kit with tools and all necessary parts. Having a professional guide me through this step by step definitely gave me the confidence to perform this major service and learn more about my Vespa.
The best workshop in the world! ... great video (like all those that Robot usually does), not only for the quality of components and these videos that are so educational and detailed on how to carry out maintenance and changes, but also for its people and the great customer service they provide (greetings to Fabio) ... it's good that they mention their passion for scooters and it is really reflected in their videos, one of the reasons why 90% of parts that my Vespa 300gts super sport has are from scooterwest!
Just watched the video to see what goes into servicing a new vespa , he is a fantastic engineer robot and a thorough maintenance tutorial very enjoyable video all the best . It's another world from a classic scooter ,
Thank you for the videos!!! I have just purchased my 3rd GTS. I love your videos! I live on an island in the Caribbean and my next bike is literally on the cargo ship crossing the ocean as I type this. This is a very mountainous landscape. So it will be interesting test for the bike. My wife and I just worked a deal with a shipping company to ferry the bike to all the neighboring islands. We are going to do a vespa beach to beach quest. I will be posting videos of the journey..Ride well fellow humans...
Hi, i have been a fan for a few years of the website and Robot and it has made me so informed when it comes to scooters and motorcycles of all kinds. I rode a few bikes (Honda 74-360, 76-550 plus a 77 750-four) when i was younger and because of all the info I have received from your website I purchased an scooter (a Peugeot Django 125) when my wife and I bought a place in Croatia. I was going to buy a Piaggio product but everyone has a Piaggio of some sort so i thought I would different. i should have went with the Piaggio (the Peugeot does not have the support I am used to in Canada) but live and learn. Just wanted to say thanks a keep it up. Terry Abrey Vancouver, BC, Canada Brac, Croatia as well
Robot make's maintanance so easy for everybody, its verry handy to have al service video's. I peronaly learn a lot of these video's. Thanks!!..Greetings to everybody of scooterwest from Holland.
Many thanks to Robot for this detailed video. You helped me a lot. It's a shame that I live so far away, if only because of the great inspection sticker, I would let you do my service. Greetings from Berlin Germany.
WOW. That is a BIG BIG BIG job. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Is it worth it??? What a design/engineering. Access is SHOCKING. Vespa's are GREAT. But the access/servicing/EXPENCE??????? !!!!!!! WOW. THANK YOU Robot.
I’m glad I’ve gone back to bikes, and bikes with low service requirements that live up to high expectations. I’ve had two Vespa GTS 300ie supers, a 2007 and a 2015 There was more issues with the 15 than the 07 and I wasn’t even tempted with the hpe. I still have a 1995 Vespa PX200efl and the bike is the Honda NT700v, like the PX in many ways, it’s a well sorted engine xx Top respect to you still though robot
Great Video, Thanks, Robot! What the U.S. Wanted: A larger displacement scooter, for better expressway and highway riding. What Vespa Sent: A harder to service scooter, with a higher cost of ownership and a lower top speed, that has offers a valid excuse not to check the engine oil. I understand the new Euro standards are tough, but to learn that the side cover was plastic, was quite a disappointment.
Long long video, suggest a tea break or two to get through it. However very informative and I wish that I lived in California and this was my local service centre. Am on my second GTS as first one stolen and now have the HPE engine. A little disappointing to find it needs a 6k mile service and how complex it seems, and I only hope when I have my first service its done to the same standard as in the video. Thank you for showing me where everything is located and why I need to know it!
Just about buying a Vespa and after watching this expert talking i decided to withdraw from buying as its too expensive to maintain compared to a Kymco, Yamaha or Honda scooter. I would like to thank Robot for saying the whole truth. Thanks again.
Hello! I really enjoy all of your videos. Excellent! They remind me of times past when you were sometimes allowed inside the workshop, simply standing in a corner and just observe. Of course there were rules even then. Touch absolutely nothing, do not speak, stay out of everyone's way. It was more than OK for me! I could still observe...
Another great presentation Robot. I think it compliments the GTS 9K video that you did back in 2017. After watching I still found I'd learnt quite a bit. It's bit annoying for Piaggio to reduce the service intervals on the new HPE model especially for valve check and belt change. Most motor manufactures manage to increase service intervals not reduce them. If you are not mechanically minded, it's going to cost new owners a lot of money in servicing charges, especially at 160 minutes labour time plus parts!
hello robot I'm 70 years old and I've had motorcycles since I was 13, the 1st was a Honda c114 and after many Japanese, English, German, etc., as I have short legs I had to leave the 750 cc and currently I have, like you, a "Honda CB-1 400" plus 2 CBF 250 and now I bought a 2005 Piagiio X9 250 Evolution from a friend, this is my first sccoter and I actually like it a lot, so I dismantle it all and rebuild it mechanically and electrically, despite having all the manuals and having vast experience in preparing motorcycles and cars for races, I find your videos very useful. I take the opportunity to ask if it is possible to use the crankshaft and cylinder of the 300 in my engine, thank you for everything and I wish you all the best for your business. Mario Bela from Portugal
great video Robot, and very comprehensive! My thoughts about buying a new 300 HPE could be tainted due to the extra service requirements! Keep up the good work, we could have someone like you, here in the UK!
Thumb screws on the filter cover permit changing filter by reaching inside after removing underseat bucket on a Liberty - maybe the same on this Vespa? New Iridium NGK is $14 - you're in there, why not?
Should you always screw the dipstick in to check the oil on Vespa scooters, I thought you just rest it on top then pull out and check? You don’t recommend greasing any of the bolt’s before refitting them? How long Labour time do you charge for this service?
Awesome video, great detail and very informative. I watched your video's because i am considering buying the new Vespa GTS HPE, and for all there are many innovative improvements over the old model, the service intervals and requirements seem a little excessive or reflect a slight lack of quality or design thought? it is disappointing to find that the GTS speedo here in the UK still comes with KPH been the prominent reading with MPH underneath in the smaller, hard to read format, unless of course you pay £5999 for the Supertech with the TFT Display, which means the TFT display costs approx £900. Unfortunately here in the UK it seems Vespa dealers are giving up their dealerships or losing them, certainly where i live in North Yorkshire, which means a 130 mile round trip for me for servicing and warranty work to a dealer (Ron Daley of Barnsley) who inspires confidence and gives great service. Vespa are starting to lose customers because of the lack of quantity and quality dealerships here in the UK. Like many comments before me, we so need a few Robot's here, and the dealerships to employ them.
who wants a nightmare like that with that kind of maintenance for a short mileage it suppose to be a practical and utilitarian transport same with bmw scooters very expensive to maintain.
Love this video, great if you plan to service your own machine,I feel I am reasonably competent home mechanic as a 50 year qualified Aircraft Engineer, but I learn all the time from Robot.Wish we had your equivalent here in the UK Keep it up,would defo use you if based in the US of A,may try your online service for parts.
I would make a pretty good wager that the foam on the inside of that transmission housing cover and the redesign to the airbox housing using the same filters as before are both noise abatement issues allowing a more open less restrictive exhaust for more horsepower.
As the 2019 and like generation of the Liberty 50 are now needing the 6k service, it would be awesome if you could do that as a series of videos. Thanks!
Need to get me one of them bike lifts - that's a perfect height for bike medalling. As always Robot, very comprehensive and well explained. Thanks for posting
I want one of these so bad. The problem is, The nearest certified technician/dealership is 250 miles away. So unless I want to drive 4 hours every time this thing needs maintenance, I'm just SOL.
Mostly Robot when I buy a use bike I do a check if it starts & run and do Overhaul on it! I take it apart and buy all new parts even got low miles on it! This 2007 PIAGGIO MP3 250IE and had 3008 miles and when I get done on it! It be safe drive on the roads again!
One of your very best videos Robot. I love that your tutorials are so detail intensive so . . . no worries about the length being too long. One question I have, do you recommend any antiseize to be used on the spark plug ?
Nice, thanks, greetings from the Netherlands, I am happy i have the aprilia scarabeo 300. My rear citygrip last like 10.000 miles. My belt 12000 miles. Valve adjustment also 12000 miles but i did it when it had 6000 miles and there was to much space (0.15 and 0.25) , i had to adjust it, it was just to wide. It had more power when it had 0.10 and 0.15 mm I change my belt when it had 13000 miles, it became slower, when i had the new belt on it was much faster. Better to change belt when 10000 miles on it because the scooter becomes slower, but with 13000 miles on it i saw no cracks. I just changed my battery after 10 years, i never charged it but drive ones a week 30 miles on it. Brake fluid and coolent i still never changed in 10 years time, maybe not a good idea. I have 18000 mile on it now and engine working very well. The service manual says oil every 6000 miles, but i prefer to do it every 4000 miles. The engine really not likes to have the oil changed every 6000 miles but ad some new oil is also good to last longer. Never look at the oil level for 6000 miles is a really bad idea like you said. The big spring in the clutch i have to change every 6000 miles. But i also have to change the smaller springs in the clutch now they became to weak.
Great Video! Shows all the work that goes into the service. What would be the labor estimate at 160 minutes? $250. Total estimate with parts? Vespa is a passion!
Isn't "safety (b)locks" also verifying that main bolts are correctly torqued? Because that item you are missing there. They usually say what are the main bolt to verify correctly torqued.
Nice video ,though im relatively dissapointed about the gts300 part prices and overall maintainance interval.Guess i keep sticking with the classic T5 and Et2 models.
hi, do you advise when removing the engine from an HPE to remove the glovebox and floor to access and disconnect the stator wiring, or would you remove and hang the stator cover and wiring loom? cheers Julian
looking at a 2007 gts, 4200 miles, local dealers in Canada here say that generation have labor intensive repairs that will come up since it is old, comments Robot?
If I lived in California I would be in asking to mentor and work in the shop. Your videos are great but as a retired Auto tech instructor It's better to show people the service but have a factory tech do it right.
I am strongly thinking about buying a Vespa but seeing this video scares me off. The closest dealer is 2 hours away. Anyone know the cost of this service done at 6000 miles? Are the previous Vespas this extensive and expensive to maintain? What year 300 would be the best to buy and what maintenance is required? Looking at changing oil at recommendation at drive on down the road. Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda got it figured out. I just like the seating and shorter wheelbase if the Vespa. Please advise. Thanks
The variator guides that Robot uses in this video are tan, the variator guides sold on the scooter west for the GTS HPE are green. Is it ok to use the green variator guides on my GTS HPE?
Why is it that at 60k, 40 extra minutes are needed? Is it related to the 24 months interval and so, it is mandatory that every fluid must be replaced also? Thanks for keeping the channel and specially for this tutorial. Regards.
Super Vidéo enjoyed watching the 6.000miles maintenance... could you please mention the cost of this process it would help me evaluate the service cost. Thanks and keep up the good work!
great videos ,I have a HPE300 super sport it Has 3000ks and the variator is very noisy at 90 to 1000ks as well as the usual at slow speed it's a nicer bike to ride than my old 2009 model but am not fussed on the rattle do others have the same complaint how do i fix it
can you do a video where you explain pros and cons of liquid vs (forced) air cooling on small (~150ccm) scooters? if you already did please send me a link, thx
What a fabulous thing it is to have robot to guide me along with servicing the GTS. I have now done 3 belt and rollers and now completed the tappet service on a HPE 300.. Many thanks Robot, you are A STAR... cheers Brian

Glad it helped! Thanks for watching...
I’m so glad my Vespa 200efl 1995 model requires basic home maintenance. And it runs as good as ever. Keep the dealer mechanic at arms length

What a design/engineering.
Access is SHOCKING.
Vespa's are GREAT. But the access/servicing/EXPENCE??????? !!!!!!!

THANK YOU Robot.
Love your work mate . What brand scooter is the most easiest , less complicated scooter to work on ? around 125 cc ?
Thanks .

Thank you very much for your videos. You' ve made me save a lot of money. You are a fantastic man. Many greetings from Greece.
Awesome video and I love your explanations.
Don't own a Vespa, but considering a 300. I'm not mechanically inclined but found this video fascinating Robot.

Thanks for that!!
Wow what a tutorial. You make things look very easy.
Thank you! Cheers!
I would make a pretty good wager that the foam on the inside of that transmission housing cover and the redesign to the airbox housing using the same filters as before are both noise abatement issues allowing a more open less restrictive exhaust for more horsepower.
Great video watch all your videos as much as can great hints and tips well done keep up the great from George in the uk
Smart man, thank you for helping others.
Robot is the Man with the plan
He’s a human not AI
He’s the real deal
Thanks
Excellent! When I buy a scooter it will be from Scooter West.
Good choice!
As the 2019 and like generation of the Liberty 50 are now needing the 6k service, it would be awesome if you could do that as a series of videos. Thanks!
You are a very valuable employee! Excellent work ethic.
Thank you very much!
Need to get me one of them bike lifts - that's a perfect height for bike medalling. As always Robot, very comprehensive and well explained. Thanks for posting
They sure make things a lot easier. They sell less fancy ones that would still work great for the home mechanic. Thanks for tuning in!
I wish medical doctors could be as thorough as Robot !!! Great video …
love your vids Robot... sooooo helpful ... you're becoming a world wide legend :)
Thanks for doing what you do !!! Took the time to leave a google review as well...
You are a leader !
You have the right approach Dude....
Thank you for this fantastic tutorial. I just left a 5 star google review. You are top!
Fantastic! Thanks for the support!
You guys and gals are the best. Thanks for the vid(s).
Our pleasure!
Nice, thanks, greetings from the Netherlands,
I am happy i have the aprilia scarabeo 300.
My rear citygrip last like 10.000 miles.
My belt 12000 miles.
Valve adjustment also 12000 miles but i did it when it had 6000 miles and there was to much space (0.15 and 0.25)
, i had to adjust it, it was just to wide. It had more power when it had 0.10 and 0.15 mm
I change my belt when it had 13000 miles, it became slower, when i had the new belt on it was much faster.
What?? Oil change 2000miles europe!!
Thanks Robot. Super info as always!
My pleasure!
Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Great vid 👍🤘😃😎
Thank you again for awesome video! Mr. Robot
So many screws, that's insane.
Thank you robot 👍👍👍
Great video, There is a lot to this service..👌
Excuse me, how much mm should the clearance between the intake valve and exhaust valve be adjusted?
Great instructional video! Well done Sir.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks
Hello! Can you tell me, please, what is the inside diameter and thickness of copper Crush Washer packing gasket for gear oil drain bolt plug?
Thanks.
The variator guides that Robot uses in this video are tan, the variator guides sold on the scooter west for the GTS HPE are green. Is it ok to use the green variator guides on my GTS HPE?
great video very informatif greetings from belgium
Thanks for watching!
Why is it that at 60k, 40 extra minutes are needed? Is it related to the 24 months interval and so, it is mandatory that every fluid must be replaced also? Thanks for keeping the channel and specially for this tutorial. Regards.
As a experienced mechanic, can u tell me how can cam timing chain strech a lot that needed replacement at 9000kilometers only ?
What's the decompression mechanism at 59:38 called in the workshop manual / maintenance table?
Very good information. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, Robot. What can someone expect to pay for a full service like this? Total cost, parts and labor.
A FORTUNE !!! $$$
Robot is a Kershaw guy I see. Nice Kershaw Leek you have there.
Super Vidéo enjoyed watching the 6.000miles maintenance... could you please mention the cost of this process it would help me evaluate the service cost. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Awesome tutorial...thank you ! 5 🌟⭐⭐⭐⭐
You’re welcome 😊
great videos ,I have a HPE300 super sport it Has 3000ks and the variator is very noisy at 90 to 1000ks as well as the usual at slow speed it's a nicer bike to ride than my old 2009 model but am not fussed on the rattle do others have the same complaint how do i fix it
why do you think the hpe 300 has a shorter belt compared to the gts 300?
do you think Piaggio did it to not rub the oil pan?
Brilliant just Brilliant 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😄
Thanks!!
can you do a video where you explain pros and cons of liquid vs (forced) air cooling on small (~150ccm) scooters? if you already did please send me a link, thx
would a 2010 Montenapoleone 300 cc with 4 thousand kilometres on the speedo be comparable to current new Vespas or noticeably older and dated?
