I've had many super bikes etc and in 2022 I bought a Vespa GTS 300.
For no real reason I decided to ride it to Azerbaijan via Cyprus.
I am still amazed at what a great scooter it is.
The only modifications I made were a Malossi belt and variator.
It been over the mountains of Albania and an unplanned 80km (7 hours) jaunt off road over the mountains of Bakuriani, Georgia.
It's a keeper and it makes an easy light weight tourer.

Interesting. What benefits do the Malossi belt and variator offer? More revs when accelerating? Taller gearing at top?

@@HGSolberg the main difference is the acceleration which is improved.
I did it because I was touring and the better acceleration helped with the mountain roads.

I've owned all kind of motorcycles. I picked up a used GTS250 from a friend. It is my favorite kicking around bike. My wife and daughter can ride it also where as I would never let them near a 1kcc+ sportbike. I would have never thought I'd like it so much, but I do. The suspention isn't all that great, but it's quick and can haul groceries.

Depends on what you need. Buy something cheaper if all you want is reliably going A to B. Buy the Vespa if the journey is the point. People buy nice things because it makes them feel good and Vespa certainly has that effect on some of us.

    Great video: delivery and content
I just installed the Vespa mid size windshield on my Super. I'm a little over 6' and feel quite a bit of wind on my head/face at low speeds (35-45mph). Tomorrow I test it on the highway (60-70+mph) for a day in the office...
I've had this for 5 undriven days now, covered, in an exposed garage (apartment) where the weather has been 28-32F. Walked out to start it today; would only crank, not turn over/start. Did this 5 times in 2 sittings. Mechanic said between the cold spell and attempted startings, the battery was drained... 5 days old!!

One thing I really like about the yamaha xmax is the digital speedometer is placed as high as they could get it with big speed numbers, a clock and a fuel gage. It takes just a small dip of the eyes to easily see what you need. Especially with a full faced helmet, it's still easy to see the speedometer.

I absolutely am thrilled with my 22 GTS 300, say what you will about the premium price I found it to be worth it. Sounds like valve adjustment needed on the start if it’s struggling and the brake wobble is interesting, never experienced. I’m 240 lbs and have been on American highways and have no issues with accelerating. Maybe something has changed since I purchased mine! As for that bugger of the seat squeak, a bit of felt or white grease in the back side of carrier lip and the issue is gone…😊. You raise all the important points about the new GTS -- well made and appointed, expensive, and a nice ride. As a rider of a 2006 GTS 250 my only concern about "upgrading" after 45K miles is whether at the tech will remain durable and functional over time. I've been waffling for a couple years now on whether to just overhaul my old scooter or bite the bullet and buy a new one. Maybe it would be a nice present for my 70th birthday!

Biggest problem is lead batteries can spit as they vent, and the battery is stored under the floor. There is now a plastic battery box inside the metal frame, but you can just swap to a lithium battery for peace of mind.

I always loved the look of a vespa, especially in red
Then I looked at the price and it just baffled me. It was always more expensive than a friggin forza 125/300/350. And ppl already were saying that the forza line was expensive
Put smaller fuel tanks, worse fuel mileage, less reliability on top and i never made sense. Then again, its THE vespa. Nobody bats an eye on a forza 125. But ppl will compliment a nice vespa
Tire changes are very easy though

My wife just bought a Primavera 125cc and it was cheaper than Forza 125. But this GTS SS 300 is definitely more expensive than Forza 350, ADV 350, XMAX 300 and it costs almost the same amount of money as Burgman 400 or Peugeot XP400...

A few misses by Vespa, though: exhaust is much hotter, post-ride, compared to Forza; missing backlights on the control switches.

Vespa or Lambretta? Or is it a case of paying for the Italian brand names over substance? I love the old 60's scooters, so I'm more inclined to seek an original if I was looking for a true Vespa/Lambretta. If you use their configurator, things start to add up and VERY quickly you've got a £8-9k price to pay to get that authentic look.

I had one for a while and liked it. Then told by retired dealer that he had known them fail their first mot because of rust. I got rid of it before its first mot.
Plus points include great classic styling and surprisingly easy access to battery. I now have an SH300 which really beats it hands down. Bigger tank (I think) better mpg (22 mpl ), bigger wheels with much better handling and generally better build quality imo. Also gets up to motorway speeds very easily. However you just have to just accept the looks.

Admittedly it’s a superb ride, but it’s still ugly from certain angles . The side profile I just can’t appreciate. Be happy to own one but they are heavy imo . Better investment than a royal alloy which does look better but it’s not a Vespa with the heritage but some Taiwanese make which depreciate in value dramatically.
