  • SIG Sauer P230 SL semi-automatic .380 pistol review including pros and cons. Overview of the stainless steel SIG Sauer P230 manufactured in West Germany from 1977 through 1996. Similar in design and a competitor to the Walther PPK, the SIG Sauer P230 was built to exacting standards and, although dated, continues to enjoy an excellent reputation as a reliable and accurate conceal carry weapon. Includes a demonstration of disassembly and reassembly.

    I've had a 232 Sl for many years. It's a peach in perfect condition and it's my daily carry since I'm so short. My best shooter is a Sig P220 .45 Extremely accurate although it's heavy to carry. It's stainless also.

    Good review. I prefer them to the Walthers because they’re lighter; they don’t have a steel rear grip strap; the de-cocker is in a better position and they’re usually in very good condition.

    Best holster I have found so far for my 230 is from Urban Carry. Fits perfect really comfortable leather to wear and has a tightening bolt in it you can adjust so the gun wont fall out even upside down but no issue pulling the gun out. I have the rubber Hogue grips too. I will never sell this gun. Only issue it has is it wont load the second hollow point if clip loaded so i just use one hollow point in barrel and load fmj in the clip they never FTL.

    I have a blued Sig P232 I bought back in 2008. I took those awful Sig plastic grips off and replaced with beautiful Hogue checkered rosewood grips. BTW, at the time, Sig made a nice paddle holster for the 232 which also has an attached well to carry an extra magazine which is a cool feature for a quick reload.

    I have the same gun, P230SL, bought new in 1984. It later got stolen from me during a burglary and during a drug sweep, the burglar was found with my loaded gun, resulting in his being charged for my break-in! Mine is also stamped, "Made in W Germany." On the opposite side: "SIGARMS INC. Herndon - VA 9 mm kurz" [which means .380]. Great gun!

    Fair warning to all who own this beautiful pistol: the take-down lever on the left side is a known failure point. The lever is merely press fitted to the pin that rotates the slide block. The lever can essentially loosen slightly, and when you turn it downward, it will not fully lower the slide block inside the frame. This will prevent you from being able to lift the slide up and off the frame. You will know you have this problem when A) you can't seem to get the slide off even though the lever is all the way down and B) the take-down lever will not fully return to its up position parallel to the slide. Sig has not always been super helpful in fixing this unless you can prove you are the original owner. I fixed it on my P232 by forcing the lever back up to its closed position (parallel to the slide), then carefully using a center punch to punch a deep dimple into the exact center of the take-down lever pin. This moves just enough metal to cause the pin to expand into the lever to better secure it. It's not a perfect solution, but it is a solution. I love my P232!

      Great question. That would depend. Am I wearing a Tux? Then it would have to be the P230. It's better for formal wear. ;-) To be practical, the P239 would probably be the one I'd pick up given its overall advancements as an EDC over the 230 even though the 230 is a bit smaller and easier to carry. I find I actually do carry the 239 more often than the 230, but I'm glad I own both.

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It does. The reuniting of East Germany and West Germany into the country of Germany took place in 1990. The SIG Sauer P230 was manufactured in West Germany from 1977 through 1996. But after the 1990 reunification, the W for west Germany was dropped. Therefore the SIG P230 you saw (or at least its slide) was made sometime after 1990. Thanks for taking the time to comment. • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's quite a bit out there on this question and opinions differ, but (IMO) it would seem that the stainless steel P230 SL and P232 SL are quite robustly built and should easily withstand the occasional use of +P rounds. Personally, my everyday carry is a SIG P232 SL which I load with Hornady Critical Defense rounds for carry purposes, but +P Buffalo Bore Ammo would certainly be another option. However, my range training ammo is less expensive regular 380 ammo. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching. it is of course OPINION. There are fortunately tons of great guns. Used guns, there is little discount from new. You, on gun broker are billed shipping, get hit for an ffl fee, and a charge for credit card use. People often forget.and like a buyer premium tend to bid more than they realize. What is important is the REAL total cost. This particular gun is discontinued so if you want it you must buy used.

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  ปีที่แล้ว

      All true. Good ones are also becoming harder to find as well which means people are paying more, so prices continue to go up. The SIG P230 and P232 are great guns, but at these prices -- and as you point out -- add in the real acquisition fees and they are being priced beyond many of our reach. Too bad. I ended up paying almost $700 at auction, but I also had shipping and FFL transfer fees, so closer to $750 when the dust settled away. Given that the P230SL sold for about $460 in 1996 (or about $767 in today’s dollars), I wouldn't say I got a bargain, but it wasn't horrible either. 🤣😂 "The 1910 film, Hit Girl". 😂🤣 - I thought these weren't made until 1977.

      Yep, I didn't think it was worth re-filming just to correct that obvious slip. Glad you got a chuckle. Thanks for watching. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on TH-cam.

      Not sure what you are looking at but from the very beginning of this video, the pistol featured here shows P230SL on its slide. If there where any questions, a close-up at 6:06 clearly identifies it as a 230 and furthermore, the slanted narrow slide serrations are indicative of the 230. By the way, you can check out the specific details of the SIG P232 at th-cam.com/video/x2iGhf5N7bw/w-d-xo.html Nonetheless, thanks for watching. That is not a 96 it must be pre 94 with non rebound hammer. The should be a two digit number on the right side that will reveal the date.

    • @mickmacstabletopreviews8466
      @mickmacstabletopreviews8466  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True, it's not a 96. I figured that out after the video was posted. However, the year date is not reflected in numbers but rather letters. The date stamped code of "KE" translates to "94" on this "Made in W. Germany" SIG P230SL. Heckler and Koch, Walther, and SIG Sauer all used a similar date code format. Thanks for the feedback and for watching and taking the time to comment. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on TH-cam.

      Also between 94-96 the P230 started to get P232 features before it was discontinued.

    For the money, I rather go with the Walther PPK.

      Understood. A few others have expressed that same. For one thing, the PPK is still being produced and is well supported. It's also fairly affordable compared to the P230. But you as you can see from my review and the reasons I noted, my preference is for the later SIG P232. th-cam.com/video/x2iGhf5N7bw/w-d-xo.html
