I have a safe full of SIG’s buy far my favorite is the 239. If I only could have one gun it would be my 239. Also the nickel Controls on that gun in the video must’ve been custom to the best of my knowledge. Sid never manufactured one that way although the one I have, I customized it the exact same way. I thought I was looking at my gun.

I’m not sure if you fired that firearm yet in 40 but it is the best 40 caliber handgun ever made.
The 40/357 sig version is much better built than the 9mm re-release.
Surprisingly it has less felt recoil than any other Sig on the market.
It didn’t have the ammo capacity of the P229 but it is so much more accurate. It has less felt recoil, has a smooth trigger out of the box, and felt great in the hand.
The issue with this weapon is the feed ramp. Stock Sig barrels suck out of the box due to ammo compatibility resulting in failure to feed with some ammo.
This is usually fix by polishing/reworking the feed ramp. What’s messed up is that Sig would charge you a premium for the same service.
I use this as my carry firearm in 40 and use XS big dot sights with it.

Not too many of the P239s came with nickeled controls like that one. I'm pretty sure that particular model of P239 you have there was a special release from the early 2000s (one of several hundred?) which i think they called the 'concealed carry package'.
Came in 9mm with nickeled controls, an IWB holster and 3-dot Novak style sights, and 1-8rd mag and 1-10rd mag.
I'm going by memory. I bought the same pistol around 2003 or so. And i still have it. Exactly 12,506rds fired (and counting) with zero malfunctions of any kind. And that's with very many types of both range and defense ammo. Its a solidly reliable handgun.

I have the all black P239 in .40 S&W along with a matching .357 Sig barrel. My only regret is not having secured a matching 9mm aftermarket barrel. That caliber P239 has the full length slide serrations. The slide is also a bit beefier for the .40 and .357 models.
The original Sig grips did not fit my hands, but adding the aftermarket rubber Hogue grips transformed the P239 comfort for me. Many 239 owners switched to the rubber Hogues and experienced the same amazing fit.
Thankfully I have Sig 228 and Sig 229 both in 9mm to cover that caliber.
Thank you for a very through and balanced review of this acclaimed classic firearm. 👍🏻

The P225 came first, then the German Police had a few changes made to the pistol to meet their requirements, prior to adopting it as the P6. I owned a P6 and own the P239 along with other legacy SIG pistols. The only change I made to my P239 was the installation of the Short Reset Trigger, and it is a game changer. The P225A1 I believe, came into being due to the popularity of the P6, as they were flooding the US market as imports, but nothing about the P225A1 is compatible with the original P225 or P6.

The DA trigger is a great feature that strikers miss. Hold a gun on someone while waiting for the police, and a striker is a quarter inch pull at 5.5 pounds away from being a murderer. SIG's pro line (SP2022) proves they can put a polymer grip on a DA/SA pistol, and the P239 shows they can make it slim. Why not do both? Meanwhile only chunky Beretta Storms, HK P30 compacts and CZ P-07s are current production compact DA/SA pistols that have more capacity than the P239 but nothing else.

Agree with the review except that I think they are beautiful. (Most did not have small parts of a different color - yuk!). I Bought a few back in the day. I think they were around $550 then if I recall. They are not tactical or duty. They are more pocket. The Sig dedicated DAO "SAS" Upgrades had much smoother double action trigger, although a long pull and beautiful wood grips. The only criticism of potential buyers that I recall was magazine capacity for the size of the gun, as you pointed out.. At that time though, technology was changing and peoples preferences were just beginning to shift from single stack, (thought to be more reliable), to double stack capacity. I don't think popping off a few rounds to gain the fire initiative was yet widely taught as tactics then.
Jason, consider this idea. Have a double rating system. One for how you think the gun is engineered, performs, quality, etc. And another rating for how it fits your personal preferences. Sometimes you delete points for a quality of a firearm that I would personally like about it. For example, I love the larger circumference of the masterpiece arms DS nine hybrid. Much respect - Love your channell

The 40 version of the P239 is in my opinion the best 40 pistol ever made.
The recoil is less than my 9mm pistols.
Clean it, oil it up, train with it, and carry it with confidence.

  • @buttercup8583
    @buttercup8583 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm a big fan of failing safely. Being a single stack, it's easier to carry extra mags. I follow the rule, 2 is 1, 1 is none. I don't want to find out at the wrong time that I need a 2nd because the baseplate broke or I dropped the mag on accident.
I would get it in .40 S&W, though.

Not that it matters for free america, but HP ammo is not illegal in NJ, just frowned upon. LOL if HP ammo is used in the commission of a crime, its a felony count for each round used and remaining. There was a case law with a legally armed private security agent that had HP in his lawfully carried in NJ service weapon, and was stopped for an illegal lane change. The local PD arrested him and charged him with felony possession of a firearm( not true) and having HP ammo( not true) . The courts ultimately sided with the security guard, but what was interesting was the HP debate. He was carrying Hornady Critical Duty ammo with the Ballistic tips. NJ court said that its not a HP since the cavity was filled with something that came from the factory.

Good morning, Jason. I am going to have to explore the whole Sig handgun thingy. They are very popular with the IPSC competition shooters. I am a hardened 1911 fan, with a few moments of skipping to the dark side with Glock ownership. By the way if you do a PMag giveaway, could make it a ten-round magazine. At least I may have a chance of getting one. Oops, just joking. And that pistol shoots better than the bloke holding it. I am giving you r review a score of 5 Roo's 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘

Enjoyed your review as always. Sadly as a NJ resident magazine capacity advantages are basically null and void. We are heavily restricted to only 10 rounds.
