Why do you only have 52.000 subs? You have far more professional and interesting content than most other TH-camrs. I've been watching you from the start and you have developed so much! Keep doing what you're doing!
Thanks for watching all this time! The numbers shouldn't be used as a measure of quality or success. I'm just glad those who have discovered it, have been able to enjoy it!
I agree with Jan. Such a calm, confident delivery and relaxing music too. I always wonder why travel bloggers feel the need to put jaunty loud music as background. Beautiful shots from above, were they made with a drone?
Thank you for sharing this jam packed, informative video. My brother is heading across to NZ in a few months and I forwarded a link to him so he could watch this. Well done Joe and thanks again!
Really useful Joe, thank you. It occurred to me that one other accommodation option is to buy a relatively cheap tent/ bivvi bag, and sleeping bag, on arrival in Auckland and hire a car. That way you can camp /stealth camp when the weather is OK, and use a hostel/hotel/airbnb when the weather is less favourable. That way is possibly cheaper than a campervan, but you also have a greater degree of flexibility and choice with a car. Hire an estate car and you could probably sleep in the back.
Awesome guide! Super informative :) Just another tip: if you are looking for nature in Auckland, for instance, hop on a ferry to Tiritiri Matangi or Rangitoto Island! Most of us do have to spend a wee bit of time in Auckland anyway, so it's worth making something out of it ;) And: If you miss out doing a glacier hike on the West Coast (Franz Josef and Fox) then try your chances at doing a glacier hike on the Tasman Glacier in Aoraki Mt Cook Village - the weather is generally better there.
Nice video - though, as an Aucklander, I feel you sold Auckland a bit short. IMHO, the three best aspects of Auckland are (1) the Hauraki Gulf islands (e.g., Rangitoto, Waiheke, Tiritiri Matangi); (2) the volcanic cones (e.g., Mt Eden, Mt Victoria, Rangitoto); (3) the Waitakere Range and the spectacular black-sand West Coast beaches (e.g., Piha, Muriwai (w/ gannet colony), Whatipu). Even if you're not a city person, it's definitely worth more than just a passing visit. (ps. It's a pity you couldn't stay for the British & Irish Lions tour, starting in a couple of days!)
I hear what you're saying and those are all beautiful places - but that is _exactly_ my point. None of those are actually Auckland city. Sure they're near, but the point I was making was that I personally wouldn't travel to New Zealand looking for city life. I am very much a city person, coming from London, and would consider Tokyo my favourite place in the world. Auckland is just considerably smaller, as it's relative to the much smaller population. When I say I'm coming to New Zealand for nature, it's because to me that's what NZ can offer best unlike anywhere else. It's definitely a shame about the Lions though; I would have loved to see that live!
Love the vid, good info and mostly great pronunciation. With respect to he volcanoes, they're all within the city. Technically the western beaches and eastern islands are part of the city too, even though they're "country side". If you're back this way in the next few years, feel free to contact me and see if I can show you some scenic spots in the Auckland region.
New zealand reminds me to Patagonia, a geographical region in south america, shared by Chile and Argentina. But , new zealand has it all (glaciers, mountains, snow, cold humid climate, warm climate, extremely stunning beaches In a relatively small space!. wish to be there some day. Greetings.
Really enjoy your content. Traveling to NZ next month and was able to plan nearly my whole trip based on your vlogs and blog posts. Thank you very much! Heard a lot about Doubtful Sound as well. Are you aware of more places like that which are kinda hidden and not as touristy?
Really informative video! I'm just wondering why you didn't include Taupo? I currently live here and I love it, much of the same stuff as Rotorua as well!
Yeah a few people have mentioned Taupo. If I'm honest, the two times I've been to the area, I haven't really felt much of a connection to it like I have other areas unfortunately.
Great Video as usual, congrats, I have noticed on both your trips you didn't mention Blenheim and the Marlborough wine region. Did you get the chance to go there while up in the Nelson region? Cheers Al
Yep you're right about Roy's Peak. We didn't actually get to go there in the end, but it was on our list of options for sure! I do love the drive around Wanaka and Lake Hawea though!
Yes the North Island has it's beautiful nature and it is a shame that people often skip it to see the South Island because the South Island is more beautiful.I can't wait to see both .I am busy waiting on the phone to Optus telecommunications because they did a big stuff up with our telephone.Frustrating at the moment.I rather be in New Zealand by now .Thanks for the great info ,lregards Louisa
thank you so much. But I have one little question. Since summer is almost here in Europe and in Holland we deal right now with bugs and spiders...hate them. I love nature and NZ looks so beautiful, but aboutt bugs and spiders or the things we need to be careful.... sorry for my silly question
Thanks for such detailed video. Now you've put New Zealand on my list of places to see. One question tho, what's the brown/black jacket you're wearing in this video? I love it. A link to the jacket will be appreciated
That's fantastic to hear! Glad I helped inspire you! The jacket was bought in Japan last year on a complete impulse in the Parco department store. The designer is called Michel Klein if that helps? I can't find their menswear online anywhere though...
We were on a private tour organised by their marketing so that we could film inside. Ordinarily you're right though, you can't take cameras down there. Not even GoPros.
Thanks for the useful videos with tips. We are going next year in February for 9 weeks with a rental car. Your videos give us a awesome expression of what we will see🙏🏽. Also your tip about shooting from a driving car is very useful.👍🏽We want some more information about flying a drone at NZ. Can u help us, or do u have some FAQ. Do we need everytime a permission to fly with a drone? Hope u can help us. Thanks and keep doing the great work. We love your videos and vlogs.
No problem at all, glad you've enjoyed the content! You should have a look through airshare.co.nz for some helpful information regarding drone flights in NZ. Good luck and have fun on your trip!
This was a guide on places I would recommend visiting, based on _my_ experiences and not a guide on _every_ place in New Zealand. To be truly honest, I didn't feel much in Taupo compared to the rest of New Zealand. What stands out for you about Taupo?
babyburnsz South Island, 2 weeks should be enough, I drove from Auckland to Queenstown in 1 week, but we didn't do anything on the west coast, so two weeks should be good!
Dominic Hawkins yeah, i also heard so many things about the south island, but the flight available from indonesia are much cheaper if we're arrived in auckland which is in the north island. dont know whether we should start there and pushing 2 weeks for 2 island or just instantly flew to the south island and start south?
babyburnsz well if you drive from Auckland, you have to take account the gas costs and car ferry costs, I'm not sure how much it will be but I assume it will make up the difference. Personally I think the north island is a bit boring, the Auckland west coast is cool, and so is raglan a couple hours south (as well as Ruapehu as he says) but I still think there are better versions of them all in the South Island.
@@dominichawkins6832 the North island has warmer weather and great beaches, the coromandel, is a good example of this, and there are lesser known jems like goat island and the giant sand dunes up north.
Joe: Very concise & accurate travel info - well researched, mate. (No waffle... yay.) Glad you appreciate our "crazy, beautiful landscapes"... I take photography tours down our West Coast myself. Thanks for trying to pronounce our Maori place names, and getting permission from rangers to fly the drone. BTW, in 2016 Aotearoa had an extra MILLION tourists, and even more in 2017, so lots of facilities were maxed out. www.hotpixels.co.nz
Bay of Islands is one of the most favourite places for holliday in NZ.... how can you say it is nog known for?? nice vid but you do not really know NZ... maybe just some tourist spots. Well...if quality should be the real measure of success, Brandon Li or Yuri Palma should have 10M of subcribers...

We drove through both times and absolutely loved the scenery, but didn't actually stop there unfortunately.
Recommend Camper Mate App and internet/4G is just about everywhere these days
Very nice video and highly informative, tēnā rawa atu koe.
I have a question that when we go to Auckland, what famous historic and cultural sites can we visit?
Pls reccommends us.
very infomative! thank you :)
Wanaka is definately worth it. Especially for the hike to Roys Peak. You'll be rewarded with the best view the country has to offer. 😊
Yep you're right about Roy's Peak. We didn't actually get to go there in the end, but it was on our list of options for sure! I do love the drive around Wanaka and Lake Hawea though!

very great explanation.thumb up!

I think we all forgot Hamilton
Dunedin..culture..what sort of culture do you mean..
What are you talking about I live in New Zealand and the internet is fine so dont know what internet your talking about.
Auckland is a hole, you did the right thing not staying there too long.
