Same here my friend , just the amount of information and instruction that’s available now as opposed to back then is staggering . My best resource for instruction back then was Bo Burton’s tips on the PBA championships every Saturday
Good stuff EasyMikeBreezy! I really like my pin downs. Being a lefty and playing that typical lefty line pin down works really well for me. Thanks Mike for the explanation of the two. Preesh.
Just got my first personal ball from my brother in law and you, your brother , and Chris have helped me learn and figure out a lot over the past few months
Very informative, my favorite ball is pin down. It's my most predictable controllable ball. It leaves the fewest splits and most make able spares. I'm a right speed med-low Rev down and in bowler. I like stroking that "thang". This was extremely helpful. Thanks
Very helpful. I'm new to bowling and I just had a new ball drilled and I noticed they drilled directly into the pin. I wondered what that meant. And everything online is "pin up vs pin down". No one talks about what directly into the pin does. So, Now I'm extra curious, why did they drill my ring finger into the pin and what does that do??
Another good one Mikey. For the next Ballsplanations video, can you talk about tape on the forearms and wrists? When to use them. That would be helpful.
Omg!! A bowling ball and tote giveaway! I need this, seeing that i'm getting back into bowling after 3 yrs away from it. Thanks for the video, i've asked so many pro shop managers the difference of reaction and movement of a bowling ball when its drilled pin up versus pin down. I'm also thinking about getting the Idol Optimum and Summit Peak.
on tour, how often did you use different layouts? would it have been easier to keep ball changes as the only main difference in your arsenal? do some types of bowling balls benefit greater from pin up vs pin down layouts? Great vid Mikey!!!
Probably also worth mentioning: The bigger the core, the greater the delta you'd see with a pin up/down comparison. Anything in the .020-.030 differential category is already flaring pretty tightly from the factory; going pin down on a small core can cause the ball to roll over its own oil and cause carrydown (yes, even if it's resin - nothing to do with urethane).
Good video mike. I like pin down better ball doesn't go crazy on you. Very controllable. Keep those videos coming. Can you do a video on adding surface to a ball and then what polishing does?
i like the dna coil and the new idol i can throw them both from my regular spot and move way right from the left side of the lane at the bowling ball demo
you used the word truncating the core with the pin in the palm layout as well. what's the difference in numbers and motion when comparing pin down and pin in the palm?
I drilled my first pin down ball about a month ago. It's different since I'm use to throwing pin up. I've noticed my ball goes little longer but more skid flip in the back end. I'm throwing the bw3.0
I have two of the OG Zen's one pin-up and one pin-down. I get mixed answers as to what surfaces match better with both. Should the pin-up have more surface on it to accentuate the earlier motion and polish the pin-down to do the same (accentuate later motion)? Or polish the pin-up and put surface on the pin-down (which may bring them to be too similar areas of the bag)?
I’ve been using pin up for 10 years and I’m about to try pin down tomorrow. I feel like because I am an “outside line. Bowler” I feel that pin down is going to be better for me
Hi mike, so I'm a low rev low speed bowler and I play league in a house that is medium to medium dry and I have been taking strong asymmetrical balls and drilling them short pin. After watching this video I'm kinda interested in drilling one pin down, how would a pin down layout look compared to a short pin layout? what can I expect to see? Will the pin down hook less or more and will it change the shape of the ball motion? I need to know, thanks for the video.
Hi Mikey, got a question. Legality aside, can I have a one-hander layout on my bowl while bowling two handed? Does it adversely affect the ball motion in any way? Cheers!
I'd like to see Chris Via do a pin-up and pin-down video for the 2 handers and no thumb bowlers and how the RG and differential numbers differ from a one handed bowler.
So pin up gives you more options as far as moving boards? While the pin down is more for like bowling straighter is that correct? I bowl 2 handed. I play league and I’m getting an Ion Max today and was wondering if pin up would be better. I normally stand at about 25 boards so I’m wondering if this would better fit my play style.
Since a pin down layout tends to be a slower/smoother arc and give you less overall board coverage, would it make sense to switch from pin up to pin down when the lanes start to get fried and you can't keep anything right of the headpin?
Hey Mikey...so if you learn your layouts...doesn't that determine if it's pin up or pin down anyways??? for example if I know my dual angle layout and give it to my pro shop guy ...would the ball just come back pin up or pin down based on what I gave him??? Thanks
I bowled league and tournaments 30 years ago. I just got back into it this year. Crazy how much has changed
Same here my friend , just the amount of information and instruction that’s available now as opposed to back then is staggering . My best resource for instruction back then was Bo Burton’s tips on the PBA championships every Saturday
And now I know WHY I prefer pin down drills. Another stellar video Mikey, please keep them coming!
One of the best technical explanations of pin up bs pin down I have seen!
Love this, you are definitely one of the better people to explain and flesh out what you're teaching us. Thanks so much
Good stuff EasyMikeBreezy! I really like my pin downs. Being a lefty and playing that typical lefty line pin down works really well for me. Thanks Mike for the explanation of the two. Preesh.
Love the low flaring balls, I find most balls now are too aggressive for me so need to tame them down. Good to see the difference.
Great demonstration Mikey! Been watching yours and Darren’s tip videos for about 3 months and my average went from 185 to 200. Thanks for the help!
Just got my first personal ball from my brother in law and you, your brother , and Chris have helped me learn and figure out a lot over the past few months
Very well stated and demonstrated so we could understand and make the decision for how we throw it. Keep up the good work!
Very helpful, Michael. You answered some questions I've been mulling for a while. Thanks a bunch.
Very informative, my favorite ball is pin down. It's my most predictable controllable ball. It leaves the fewest splits and most make able spares. I'm a right speed med-low Rev down and in bowler. I like stroking that "thang". This was extremely helpful. Thanks
Awesome timing on the vid. Been wanting to mess around with pin down layouts for a while now! 👋🏻
This was SO good. Very easy to understand. Thanks!
Thank you for explaining the difference, it makes more sense to now.
I was actually thinking of finally adding a pin down ball to the bag and this video sealed the deal! Thank you
Great explanation! Thank you!
thank you for the education on the pins! great content!
Excellently explained
Let's go 30k! Love to see your channel growing. Seems like yesterday you were topping 20k.
Super helpful video, Mikey, thank you! My boyfriend and I have gotten into bowling this year, this was much needed. Surface change video next!!
Thanks Mikey this really helps me when drilling a ball!
Another great ballspanation. Keep them coming 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for your tips. Now I'm learning what up and down pin are
Great information!! Thanks for making this video!
Great Video. Congrats on 30k!!!
Excellent job
Great explanation! Made so easy. Thank you
Another good one Mikey. For the next Ballsplanations video, can you talk about tape on the forearms and wrists? When to use them. That would be helpful.
okay much needed, i had no idea this related to the flare lines thank you Mikey
Thanks for the video Mike! This helps me a lot. Keep these helpful videos coming please. 👏
Love the content! Can you do a video explaining what ball is good for high rev low speed players! 400+ revs 14.5 mph.
Is that 14mph at the break point?
@@umbra927315-15.5 off hand and maybe 14 by break point
Fantastic explanation
Like the vid. Just started bowling and trying to learn.
love your explanations, keep it up
Another awesome vid! Thanks Mikey!!😊
Definitely want to stop by your place when I come and do the pba lbc in IL
Keep the fire coming
Great demo!
another amazing video very informative
Just started bowling and I love the timing of this video🎉🎉
Nice job Mike.👍
Wow... ball and bag, can only dream
Still planning on a visit for a couple new balls next month when I’m in Colombus. I’m really looking forward to some help from a professional
Always very informative

Keep going with the dope content... Thank you!!!
on tour, how often did you use different layouts? would it have been easier to keep ball changes as the only main difference in your arsenal? do some types of bowling balls benefit greater from pin up vs pin down layouts?
Great vid Mikey!!!
That ball is so pretty! 🤩
Good info MT, what about doing a short pin vs long pin comparison?
I think that ball is going to be amazing
Nice explanation Mikey!
That 5 1/4 with the 2-2 1/2 buffer is my absolute favorite layout. Had a ball with that pin down layout and I couldn't get a feel for it.
My favorite videos by far.
Love your content. New to bowling. Very informative and helpful.
great explanation
Awesome bag!

Love your videos
I bowl 3 nights a week and have 3 balls and a 2 ball bag. I absolutely love it
you used the word truncating the core with the pin in the palm layout as well. what's the difference in numbers and motion when comparing pin down and pin in the palm?
Pin in palm is like the ultimate pin down
Your tips are fantastic thx u
I drilled my first pin down ball about a month ago. It's different since I'm use to throwing pin up. I've noticed my ball goes little longer but more skid flip in the back end. I'm throwing the bw3.0
Wonderful content
what would you recommend for different types of players between up and down on the house shot?
Great vid. Gimme that ball and tote!!!

Or polish the pin-up and put surface on the pin-down (which may bring them to be too similar areas of the bag)?
Great video Mike!! As a 2hander what layout does Chris have for pin under?
Hey Mike, where can i get the racers you are wearing?
I’ve been using pin up for 10 years and I’m about to try pin down tomorrow. I feel like because I am an “outside line. Bowler” I feel that pin down is going to be better for me
Can you elaborate please? I think I can relate lol
How many times can you plug and re-drill a bowling to try a different placement?
Good job Mike! So pin down, the ball rolls longer than hooks? Watching you throw the balls, the pin down was a tighter line than pin up? Aloha
What is the difference between the oil tracks being close together vs further apart?
Hi Mike, I wonder if it's the same concept for two handed bowlers as well?
I've bought so many balls lately, I'm ready for another 3 ball tote!
Hi mike, so I'm a low rev low speed bowler and I play league in a house that is medium to medium dry and I have been taking strong asymmetrical balls and drilling them short pin. Should I do a pin up and pin down on the same ball, or should I change to a weaker or stronger ball, if I want to have both in the same bag?
Happy birthday to Chris!

Ready for that giveaway 😍🥜
6:51 The replay is a different shot , where is the 10 pin in the replay ??
Since a pin down layout tends to be a slower/smoother arc and give you less overall board coverage, would it make sense to switch from pin up to pin down when the lanes start to get fried and you can't keep anything right of the headpin?
It could help!
What layout system did you use?
Good video
Before I watch does this matter for 2 handlers ?
Let’s go 30K
What about pin through the ring finger?
Hello Mikey. Why do I track so high I'm damn near a full roller?
Hey Mikey...so if you learn your layouts...doesn't that determine if it's pin up or pin down anyways??? for example if I know my dual angle layout and give it to my pro shop guy ...would the ball just come back pin up or pin down based on what I gave him??? Thanks
I’d hope if I gave a pso my 2 1/2 buffer it’d come back pin up everytime
so I think that's your way of saying "YES" ??? lol sorry i just dont know drilling yet...only learned layouts recently@@tvbowlingsupply
What do you mean by house shot?
Newbie question: Is the pin the pink dot or pink X?
Dot!
Only if the Pro shop was in San Diego haha
Hook up a homeowner! Holiday and palace all day!
🔥
Every time my team bowls on the pair you do a video on, I bowl like crap. What are you doing to the lanes?🤣🤣
C'mon 30K!!!
