    I also would like to understand the NuSci exit. It mayn't have been relevant to the conversation or perhaps it wasn't something he wanted to discuss. Whatever the reason, this was a great interview with some very practical advice.

    Is it possible that sleeping less than 8 hours was not the cause of insulin resistance but rather it’s due to not giving enough time between eating? I.e. did the study that found that correlation maintain 8 hours between meals for both groups?
    In Peter Attia's interview with Rhonda Patrick, he says ApoB particle number is the single most useful cholesterol metric. However, in his 6/27/16 blog post, he mentions Lp(a)-P is what doctors should use.. so is ApoB == Lp(a)-P?
    Interestingly, cholesterol guru, Chris Masterjohn, sees Total Cholesterol / HDL as the most useful metric, since ApoB/ApoA doesn’t capture the movement of cholesterol from HDL to LDL that occurs with increasing time of LDL spent in the blood. He sees the deterioration of cholesterol as the problem when the liver uptake is not happening.
    Incidentally, regarding the Alzheimers theory that the brain becomes insulin resistant (type-3 diabetes), Chris Masterjohn also has an excellent post about insulin, and how it's not as simple as 'insulin resistance'.
    Also, about the Blue Zone, didn’t they find that the Okinawans die at a far lower rate of cancer and cardiovascular disease than everyone else? Dr. Attia suggests that the longevity problem is more managable if we assume they die of the same diseases just later… but is this accurate?
    Finally, for more great talk with Peter Attia, there was an episode of the Tim Ferriss podcast (“Life Extension Pilgrimage”) with David Sabatini, Peter Attia, and Navdeep Chandel, where they talk about rapamycin - it's history and how it mimics fasting. They also mention how the researcher (Suren Sehgal) that saved the Easter Island bacteria that makes rapamycin, was even able to halt his metastatic colon cancer with it!
    Interestingly, despite the potential upside (longevity/cancer-prevention), and few downsides (mouth sores, decreased insulin sensitivity etc) of taking intermittent rapamycin, many researchers that study it (David Sabatini, Valter Longo,etc ) still aren’t in favor of supplementing with it! Equally strange is if rapamycin acts as an immune suppressant for organ transplants, how can it also be used for helping the elderly that have a poor responding immune system? Or how can something that’s produced by bacteria, be anti-bacterial/fungal!
    Even though it was a 3+ hour episode, there was so much more that they could have talked about.. for example, with mTORC1 and mTORC2 and how affecting the former yields the anti-aging function, whereas tinkering with the latter affects sugar metabolism... or the science behind why GABA is often taken with rapamycin... or how oxaloacetate acid (OAA) -> malate (malic acid) can also mimic fasting (by activating AMPK/DAF-16).

    Keys To Longevity would have been a good title for a book written by Ancel Keys. Ancel lived to nearly 101 (and his wife to 97) and recommended a Mediterranean type of diet. Ancel did publish a few diet books in the 60s and 70s but didn't market them aggressively like others did, such as Robert Atkins.

      That's propaganda that people like Taubes have spread. Keys was a
      respected scientist with hundreds of papers, many of them original
      science work that were published in reputable refereed science journals.
      Taubes has none of these credentials. People like Taubes are mainly
      media writers with an ideological anti-establishment mindset who try to
      shape the views of the public using rhetorical prose. They want people
      to believe the faulty premise that today's problems are the result of
      something that Ancel Keys did in the 1950's.

      +Gasso Desec In this video Attia made a reference to his former job (NuSI) and mentioned that nutrition has a religious and political nature. After he was asked on his blog about leaving NuSI, he said that he is interested in more than nutrition. It sounds like he doesn't want to get mired in the politics and religion of nutrition. Not to say that nutrition isn't important, but Attia mentions in this video the importance of stress management, sleep, exercise, social support, and sense of purpose in life which research shows can have a greater effect on one's health and longevity than particulars about diet (how much red meat one eats, for example). You probably won't hear Taubes putting such a high value on exercise, meditation, and social support as Attia does. Attia is taking a more holistic and integrative approach to health and longevity compared to a diet-centered approach that can devolve into an ideological and evangelical battle, such as pitting one macronutrient-based diet against another (low-fat vs. low-carb, for example) and trying to declare one as being superior for everyone.

    Our efforts are limited. We can only do the best we can with what we have to improve our quality of life until we die. None of us can come up with a formula that keeps us
    living forever. Just do the best with what we have. So live long and drop dead. Eating Plan: : ( Beef liver, ground beef, eggs, 2 table spoons Butter, salt, Bone broth. ) Between
    3 : 15 pm and 4 : 00 pm. No eating after 4 : 00 pm. Meal size must be enough to last till 3 :15 pm the next day::At the minute I'm alternating fasting. Fast 23 hours 1 meal. Fast
    from 4 : 00 pm - 3 : 15 pm. Or Fast 42 hours 2 meals. Fast from 4 : 00 pm - 10 : 00 am. 1st meal at 10 : 00 am, 2nd meal ends at or before 4 : 00 pm. There is a way to live forever.

    Interesting that you would end on Social Support as a fundamental of longevity ... isn't that the modern "Blue Zone = Social Medias" ... something that was crated and now is craved in order to balance modern societies ..
    70 Going On 100 … the Centenarian Diet … maybe 70 Going On 128 … the Hayflick Limit, or if a fan of Ray Kurzweil … then this is all a Moot Point.

    The key to a long healthy life is having a good chiropractor as one of your physicians. Just compare our prescriptions for blood work vs your primary cares. There seeing if your sick then they give you a medicine that treats the symptoms. None of them check your blood mineral and vitamin levels. So you can assume none of them are checking for heavy metals in your blood. God forbid they find out why your ill.... Chris just did a podcast and thinks the medical profession is still 20 years away from helping people become healthy. That's why the number one specialist in 2016 was chiropractors. No one can afford getting sick anymore. So now our offices which were always packed ..now its overwhelming and the colleges are all full. Americans are waking up when it comes to how they have been treated by there MD. Your MD will let you die and never help you get healthy. They will treat your symptoms though , year after year without ever seeing why you have something like hypertension. Find out why dont just treat the symptom...absurd.
