I have chronic inflammation from an auto-immune condition and I absolutely cannot live without the Protein inhibitor-like drugs mentioned in the video. If you find the right one that blocks a certain channel (in my case interleukin-17), it can remove inflammation almost entirely.
It's a movie about a few weird misfits in highschool growing up in some podunk town in the middle of Idaho. It's hilarious because it's such an accurate representation of what it's like growing up in a middle-of-America small town.
I'm an RN and one major reason I would never work in an operating room is that the surgeon's determine which 'music' will be listened to while the rest of the staff have no voice. Sometimes the 'music' is too loud, too Metal, too loud Rock, etc. Also, I don't think it is responsible to take one's eyes off the patient to look at clips of your favorite show. The focus should be on the patient and not the surgeon. I wouldn't advertise what really goes on in operating rooms.
Dude, you're clearly enjoying yourself here. I know I feel cool when I prattle on about my knowledge of construction and engineering. But when I'm trying to deliver a clear point to a client or employee, I try to simplify the verbiage and get to the GD point. You should try it.
Completely agree. You’re channel is a general audience TH-cam channel, using medical jargon which makes no sense to the everyday person, loses my sub. That and everything being a paywall!
It's like 2 scientists talking in an airplane and I'm just stuck in the middle. You guys could have simplified the discussion just a little bit for us mortals to understand.
You’re right, has nothing to do with mortals tho. He is no smarter than you or I except in his trade. I wonder who is audience is he’s trying to cater to.
A legitimate trigger of inflammation, typically in response to an injury or say, exposure to toxin, which if prolonged, could lead to complications, then you have to deal with whatever is triggering the otherwise symptomatic inflammation - our bodies natural response to injury, which (in part) alerts the immune system to check out the nature of it and react accordingly. Ideally in a measured response that helps slow down the eventual progression to a more severe condition, until you might recover from the injury or else remove the source of toxin. Otherwise, prolonged inflammation, in the case of injury with prolonged recovery might develop sepsis, and the toxic exposure, if sustained, could result in a mutagenic reaction that manifests as cancer etc. Again, inflammation is a symptom/reaction to whatever presumed injury or condition gave rise to it. It's like a baby crying in response to injury. Suppressing the inflammation/baby from crying doesn't do anything in relation to the injury. Now, if it's an 'overreaction' of 'runaway inflammation' that might result in death, then sure - a forced reduction of inflammation would be a good means to prevent otherwise unnecessary death due to overreaction to it - ideally where you clear out the trigger/cause, reducing the trigger for an inflammatory response. A classic example would be food allergy in response to something that doesn't inflict an injury as such, other than the anaphylactic shock which, in and of itself, can kill you. In this case, an Epipen is used, to counteract the inflammation until additional treatment, if required, can be administered.
The Napoleon intro was too funny… one my best friends from pharmacy school was from Preston, ID where the movie was filmed. Many of our late night study sessions ended with some quotes from the movie. He knew many of the local characters who showed up in the film. He was probably the smartest student in our class but just funny and unassuming. Peter thanks for the info on the podcasts. I get more from them than most CE classes. I’ll have to pay you with change.
This is the typical word salad I get from my cardiologist.. inflammation is what the subject is. There is a drug out there that (IN THE PAST 6 MO) was approved by the FDA specifically for inflammation in patients with active Cardiovascular Disease. My cardiologist will not RX for me/ he rather put me back on the table. It is clear there are people out there who do not want to stop it at the source and practice proactive health care. Sad.
SO much talk. "The Anti-Inflammation Zone" by Barry Sears (2005, Harper-Collins) is still the best and thorough discussion of inflammation and diet out there. Also, it contains no irrelevant reference to the moronic, pop culture motion picture mentioned here, though fans will be excited/beside themselves to know it was written the same year the movie was released.
It's good from the sense of removing from the diet whatever promotes and leads to inflammation vs. trying to suppress the inflammation itself. It's why AIP diet works vs. autoimmune suppressors that just treat the symptom, which compromises our immune function/response which defends the body against all the other triggers we cannot simply eliminate by diet.
But, the medical establishment identifies an Hba1c of 5.7 as prediabetic, no matter the fasting glucose level. Any idea why that's the case? Also, Hba1c increases with age. Any idea why?
when I was vegan, ate no sugar etc. I didn't have as good High sensitivity CRP as I do know eating more sugar, some alcohol and meat/dairy. It's now at 1.0-it was rare for me to have it low. Why is that? of course my H1AC jumped to 5.7 even though my blood sugar was good at 88 on m bloodwork.
Peter, thank you for all of your work. Maybe someone will see and reach out. If I take a round of dexamethasone, joint pain is reduced 90%. Resting hr will drop from low 40’s to high 30’s. Otherwise, I’m one of the healthiest 65 yr olds out there. I am on a very restricted diet.
I have the same question. I suddenly developed severe eczema at age 50. It did not respond well to any treatment until Dupixent was approved when I was 57. That is a miracle drug. Now 64 and about 90% of my eczema is gone.
I have heard that an increased cortisol load can be caused childhood related traumas. So, yes, I would agree that the inflammatory process is well established in these individuals before some of them even reach their pubescent years.
Just finished reading No Time To Die in the NYer. Never heard of you before then...agreed with all you said about aging. You say that with each decade after 30 we lose a meaningful amount of muscle mass and cardo fitness. This certainly happened to me since my chronic fatigue diagnosis...so depressing. I'm already in my 70s, so cant expect a lot of change at this point. Pleased to know i'm doing a lot of things right. I carry heavy bags of groceries in both hands despite my hip surgery that left one of my legs a bit shorter. I am definitely on an anti aging journey. Cheers!
Peter, I am a big fan, have the book watched lots of TH-cam, but this one was a total waste of time. Consider redoing this TH-cam so that the average citizen can understand what you are saying.
Brilliant appreciation piece on the genius of Napoleon Dynamite... Fuck all that I clicked on this for. Also, I finally spotted it/pieced it together: Peter Attia is the Jordan Schlansky of wellness science. 👍
When women bloat monthly (or menopausal-aged women are chronically bloated), is this a “qualifying inflammatory response” as defined by this podcast? Even if C reactive protein is not elevated?
Hey Dr. Attia, do you have any plans to comment on the Lean Mass Hyper Responder study done by Feldman and Norwitz? Would love to hear your opinion, as always.
HA good point. Also when he says "There is no evidence..." He needs to clarify is this because there was not highly funded studies, or has there been lots of studies and no advantages have been found. Like in the case of super foods.
Once again, peter this seems like version 2.0 that you play this little clip and then say spend $20 a month on being a member … I appreciate your hard work, but perhaps five or six dollars would be reasonable since you talk about people not having the money and yet you make this content exclusive… seems ironic…
Napoleon Dynamite is no doubt a good movie, but if I had to listen to the soundtrack every day for at least a month, I'd probably never watch the movie again.
First time it's stoopid....but the second time you get it.....and then watching people watch it for the first time while they aren't "getting it," is even more entettaining.
Pete loss the nice guy doing the interveiw style show iit reflects poorly on you and is somewhat insulting to the viewer. Not saying your pal is not smart. He can make on his own and you will do better by yourself
I so agree with you. I just don't get the interviewer, and he does reflect badly on Peter. I just wanna listen to Peter. He's on point, he knows what he's talking about, and he has that voice. Really, there's no need for that other guy.
Nice, now I know Peter does have a sense of humor!
skip first 5:20 mins if you want to know about inflammation.
Thanks

1:39 the seriousness that was taking place when talking about napoleon dynamite and inflammation .. I cannot tell if this is a joke or legit 🤣
Napoleon Dynamite. Essential viewing for medical practitioners 😊
The opening bit about Napoleon Dynamite was hilarious 😂. The interviewer is fine btw. Thank you for all your work.

Inflammation is an underappreciated component of depression. ❤
Most inflammation can be fixed with diet. Take out inflammatory foods and food sensitivities by going to the allergy doctor.
Inflammation is a resource strain, so i would lean towards that, but haven't found any research on it nor am I an expert.
