FYI, Install caliper by position notches at lower end of brake shoes on bottom mounting ledge. Then rotate caliper over rotor and seat notches at upper end of shoes on top mounting ledge

Black Magic Brakes are worth the cost. I've used mrblaine's pads when I had 31s and now I have his big brake kit and pads for my 35s. Steering and braking are two places I don't look to save a dollar.

why change the calipers tho? Why trust some 30 dollar made in Chyna caliper over the OEM ones made in the USA?

So it has been 20 months since the brake job. Have the Black Magic brake pads shown to be worth the double price tag? If you were to do another brake job like this would you use the same parts or go back with OEM pads?

black magic brakes seem to have shot up in price since this was recorded... the 16" brake kit is now $1,566 and it's not even in stock. my level of know-how stops at turning bolts, tugging/hitting things, and pouring (spilling) fluids... any way you could help me track down links to upgrade the brakes on my TJ? I'm running 35s with the potential for 37s in the future so i kinda felt forced to go with the kit, but if there's another way, I'm extremely interested.

They sell different kits, I have the more stock ish upgrade kit that used premium rotors, black magic pads, and new calipers. They also sell the vanco kits that are expensive like you said. If I was running 37s I’d be inclined to look at something like that, stock single piston calipers are not going to have fun stopping 37s.

@@jetskirehab750 based on your experience, would you trust your braking setup with 35s and steelies on a mountain road? (considering both initial stopping force and brake fade)
if it's really that much less $$, i could just put off 37s (possibly indefinitely)

@@themrwinston9570 gotta pay to play, I probably would run the bmb stock kit like I had with 35s. They would completely lock up 33s

You put the pads on upside down. The forks go to the bottom - not top.

Doesn’t make a difference either way
