    As I remember, from back in the day, my Belstaff waxed-cotton jacket was super efficient at keeping out the rain . . . and then depositing every last drop of it onto my jeans.

    Great video! Kudos for having the patience. I was so nervous that you didn’t say to wash it first until 10 minutes in! I hope you don’t mid me adding a couple of things for anyone considering doing this.
    As mentioned in the video REALLY work it over those seams. Like three coats. It’s the weakest point for rain to get in. And sew up any holes first.
    Before you do it consider that you won’t ever be able to wash it again. It will probably damage your washing machine with the wax clogging everything up, and the jacket will never look right again. So those sweaty smells on the inside will stick around and get worse over time. Best kept purely for dirty outdoor work at this point, or wearing in public for short periods on cool days doing things that aren’t going to break a sweat (so don’t take it camping for the weekend and expect to be able to wear it down the pub the following week. You’ll stink.)
    Finally, and I know this TOTALLY defeats the purpose and goes against the spirit of waxing your own jacket, but it’s worth mentioning - it really is a pain in the arse and there’s a learning curve to get it right. You’ll probably regret it and want to start crying 45 minutes in. For the time it takes (think minimum wage), the effort, the cost of the wax - consider sending it to a professional who will definitely do a much better job.

    A Carhartt doesn’t have a tight enough weave to produce good results. 100% cotton canvas does.

    • @WoolysWorld
      @WoolysWorld  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What's the difference between cotton canvas and duck canvas?

    • @MrBoomStick
      @MrBoomStick 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe canvas wasn’t the right word or specific enough. Don’t know, but the cotton goods that commonly get waxed have a very tight weave. I have a Kuhl jacket that would be a perfect candidate for waxing. My Carhartt has threads that are much bigger and aren’t woven nearly as tight. Waxing just doesn’t work nearly as well or last as long on the duck fabric.
