I didn’t know til I went looking for it but I’m a massive fan of your Behind the Scenes TH-cam playlist. By all means I love the dog videos but hearing the brass tacks parts of your day to day it’s pretty cool too! Love the Uncle Stonnie wisdoms in everything you put out. Thank you sir.

Thank you Stonnie! We use a waxed canvas tarp as a table cloth for camping. At some point I am going to need to reapply the wax. Thank you for the handy how-to.

I waxed my Carhartt work jacket a couple years ago and it was well worth the time. It blocks out the wind and rain great and has kept me warm and dry in some pretty nasty weather.

I used to have a lot of waxed cotton gear for motorcycling in all seasons. I used a paraffin/mineral spirits mixture to treat them, turn them inside out and toss them in the dryer for a few minutes. Made them look like they just came out of the box, new. Never blew up the dryer which was always a bit of a concern with a gas powered dryer.

Thanks for posting, I see some of my canvas stuff now becoming water and briar resistant.

What made me crack up was the context. It was a closeup shot of the table and a pair of unused gloves sitting there. As if to say, only wimps wear gloves ;)

I've picked up from another channel (Grey bearded Green Beret maybe?) That it's sometimes a decent idea to leave excess wax on and allow it to naturally soak in from the sun and use.

    Upland game vest, canvas.
Carnauba wax, boiled linseed oil, turpentine. Melt in a double boiler, paint on all surfaces, let sit overnight, cotton cloth & heat gun to need into fabric. Wipe excess. Done!

Works well on Carhartts too. Let 'em hang outside for a few days to allow the odor to dissipate a bit. Keeps those zippers working smooth too.

You are such a Dad...i had major flashbacks watching this. I wish that I paid more attention...i cherish those memories.
Linseed oil can start fires, right?...where do you store your vests?

Would love to know the ratio of beeswax, linseed oil and turpentine please.

I use paraffin and mineral spirits. The ratio is whatever handles best. The mineral spirits will flash off, especially if you turn the garment inside out and toss it in a dryer for a minute or maybe two.

I’ve thought about doing this to a couple pairs of pants. I don’t know if it’s worth sweating like pig losing breathability in the pants though. 😅

It works great but you are right you do not want to wear them in the summer lol. Great for briar busting, Google tin pants recipe. I think alot of firefighters do it

You really want to treat something that is lined. That stuff will come off on anything underneath it otherwise.

Very similar to what I Ive always done. Great video. Glad you mentioned its an outside task or you'll burn your house down with the linseed oil lol.

  • @67plym

Put the items in an old pillow case, tie it shut and put in dryer on high. The pillowcase and tumble in dryer does a nice job of burnishing the excess wax.

Uncle Stonnie, I know you're a badass, but were you filming this through an earthquake or did you branch out into elephant training? The water in the pool in the background sloshed around for over 3 minutes!
