just want to say something about velocity. So the velocity does not equal volume. I'd rather say that the lower the velocity is, the softer the attack gets. Of course lower attack will (especially in short sounds, like snares, hats, etc.) make the sound quieter, but then increasing the volume can create new sounds. Playing with the velocity can really chance the sound of snares or hats, make them softer or harder. Little tip: if you want to make your hats sound more natural, lower the velocity of every 2nd hit; it creates more "groove" and swing by itself. TL;DR: velocity ≠ volume hope that helps some new producers on their way! and keep up the great content man🙌🏼 (and sorry if the english wasn't good, i'm german)

The attack of the sample is identical across all velocity values besides the amplitude of the waveform. However, an important point you were getting at, is that on many synths and drum machines,a higher velocity will so alter the sample layering and the attack/release of a sound. So it's well worth experimenting with and finding what sounds amazing to your ears. Thanks for the comment :)

I think FL is in Belgium. He might not be fluent in French, and they may not be good at explaining their concepts in English. He could literally package these videos & sell them, but that'd minimize his mission to grab the 💰. There are tons of guys doing intricate editing, but he's actually walking you through each step and feature like he's learning on the fly and sharing it. It works!!💪💪💪

! TIP ! - FL Sudio now features an even easier & faster method for transposing the key of multiple MIDI Patterns all at once. Just hold down 'CTRL' (and/or 'SHIFT') and 'left-click' each (or all) of the MIDI patterns within the playlist's *'Picker Panel'* that you wish to transpose. Then, simply 'right-click' anywhere within your selection and select 'transpose' from the 'pop-up menu'. Enter the value you wish to raise or lower the pitch by in semitones (inlude a minus sign '-' before a value, to pitch shift down). This new method allows you to change the key of all MIDI Patterns in a project in seconds, bypassing the previous requirement of manually changing each individual pattern's key within the Piano Roll one-by-one.

Actually bouncing the MIDI information to audio is really helpful for the workflow and processing them is a lot easier too...so great information Michael...thanks
10:45 I work in FL mainly through clips. With snaps and claps instead of putting the trigger on the 2 & 4 (or whatever beat you have them on), i put the trigger one peg back. Then i go into the "Miscellaneous Functions" tab for the sample. Under the "Time" section I use the "slide" option to push the sample forward. 100% is 1/16th note, or one peg of the sequencer. I have found for a lot of claps and snaps you'll want to stay in the value range of [ 75% - 98% ]. Anything less than 75% starts to sound like an echo.
Hey Michael Nice, clean & informative video as always. I never miss any of your videos :) I just wanted to add a quick tip. If we want to adjust the midi notes by few semitones up or down, we can do that from the picker panel as well. Just right click on your pattern in the picker panel and select the transpose option and but the semitones values in +ve or -ve as required and you are done. Cheers!!
I'm a MIDI guy and even if I technically knew all this stuff, this video is really interesting because it just showed me another way of seing things. And obviously I'm sure it is a really helpful video for those who are getting started so yeah, great video, keep it up !
I’m a fervent user of Ableton Live, but I really appreciate a lot of the capabilities that FL Studio has especially with the later versions. I honestly haven’t thought of using loops for inspiration to be really helpful, and it’s something people should consider not only as a novice but in the case they hit a bit of a road block musically. Thanks a lot for the video, I learned quite a bit here! :)
Your vids are great man. I'm a Reaper user but am battling to also be fluent FL20. The tip at 12.30 was EXACTLY what I wanted to know how to do. Thanks for the effort you put into these. Best FL vids I've found
I have to disagree a little with some parts. For creating drum loops, channel rack is better, the part with the transients is easier: put the sample 1 step before and the shift it with the fine time shift on the misc settings tab. Also you can use slicex for re arrange and send each slice to different channels in the mixer, and you have all the piano roll options for control of velocity, pan, shift and more. So you don't have to create any automation clips. Another thing is layering, to layer drums in playlist is really messy, with channel rack is a bliss. In general I think that stick with MIDI is usually better, audio clips are more suitable for voices and maybe fx in my opinion. Great video Michael as always!

I just think that aligning transients and layering is so easy for us experienced users but I hear so many beats where a beginner is convinced, and I mean convinced, that their beat is in time because it's on the right steps. But I know it's off time. This is why I talked about it, I see it maybe 4 or 5 times a week in beats that are sent to me

Alright... I’ve been watching a ton of tutorials from a variety of people. Mike has been the most clear, informative and thoughtful in all his tutorials. I even use some of his analogies when I teach electronics. The visual and audio examples for engineering such as FIR and IIR as explained by Mike in other videos makes the math come to life. I have a old CPU, so I'm using one project to make the midi and export all instruments to mix in another project where I use just mix plugins like eq, compressor and things like this. A bit of an edit in Ctrl+B step When you do so, most probably of your sound is not fully got in a set of range of bars, this step will cause one of your audio clip say kick go off the range of bars. But if u use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V then you manually adjust the clip with it's perfect timing. It might take some time but your timing will always be perfect. (Idk if you are getting what I'm saying but I definitely mean it)

I like to render all the tracks separately just before mixing, it is well known that most DAWs reduce audio quality for MIDI sequences, for performance reasons. This is why songs end up sounding different after rendering without this technique, specially basses and highend.
When you render your midi tracks to audio clip, do you keep the effects on them ? Like EQ, Reverb, compression, etc. And if I understand well, since its before mixing, the volume adjusting is done after the rendering ? Thanks :)

I have a old CPU, so I'm using one project to make the midi and export all instruments to mix in another project where I use just mix plugins like eq, compressor and things like this. Thanks for the video about your template. I didn't use it, but I learn how make my own templates. And thanks for all amazing videos that help me with everything here. 🤪

A bit of an edit in Ctrl+B step
When you do so, most probably of your sound is not fully got in a set of range of bars, this step will cause one of your audio clip say kick go off the range of bars. But if u use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V then you manually adjust the clip with it's perfect timing. It might take some time but your timing will always be perfect. (Idk if you are getting what I'm saying but I definitely mean it)

Enjoyed that, something I always wondered about, midi and audio samples, which are best, thank you.
I like to render all the tracks separately just before mixing, it is well known that most DAWs reduce audio quality for MIDI sequences, for performance reasons. This is why songs end up sounding different after rendering without this technique, specially basses and highend.
When you render your midi tracks to audio clip, do you keep the effects on them ? Like EQ, Reverb, compression, etc. And if I understand well, since its before mixing, the volume adjusting is done after the rendering ? Thanks :)
