Great review! I purchased one back in may and I feel like it delivers exactly what it's meant to be. My only little critique is that at 6'3 with a 34in inseam (similar to you) I do wish the seat was a bit longer so I could scoot back a bit.
Another great ride Sir. I’m very happy with the handling now I have thoroughly played with the bikes rear preload and finding the sweet spot for me. It’s hard not to choose this little 660 in the garage just for that singing 120 deg crank configuration 😊. It does rather bring out the naughty side 😮.
At first when I saw the thumbnail I thought " Hang on have I been asleep, when did TAYM buy a 660?" then I woke up 😁 I guess the final analysis will depend on Mrs TAYM's opinion as pillion. The strength of the sub frame on each as regards to carrying a pillion and luggage would also be a major factor. Have fun while you've got it for a few days 😊😂
It would be hard to choose between the Suzuki and the Triumph. I like both but probably wouldn't get either for fear of losing my licence! They bring back memories of riding sports 600s in the 90s. I still have 600 hornet that still provides smiles, but I ride her with restraint as she is over 20 years old.
Mornin TAYM I must say I like this one and I am quite surprised that you find it comfortable "being on the larger side of Dave "😉I am thinking the Daytona is about the same seat height as the Speed twin 1200 which I managed but was not flat footed on and I found that quite uncomfortable for me when riding, didn't take long to have wrist and rear discomfort which did surprise me as I did fancy one "probably my age "😁I will watch with interest to see how it goes moving forward .Good one 👌👍
Great review! My Speed 400 goes in for its first service next Tuesday, and they're letting me take out the new Daytona 660. I love the Speed, but I'm not convinced it is a bike for a 120 mile M11/M25 commute. (60 miles E/W) 🤔 I'm hoping they'll let me take it out for a good hour or so while the service is being done to see how comfortable it is. I do really like it in the Snowdonia white... Hmmm... 🤤 I do also have an XSR900 GP coming in September, maybe I'm just being greedy after 14 years away from bikes! 😂

@@TAYMOoh nice one, I'm unlikely to do that kind of mileage in one sitting, although I'm away with my dad for a few days up to Ashbourne in the Lake District next month! 😊 I'm just glad to be back on 2 wheels after so long away, injuries from a car accident (caused by some idiot dropping nails and bits from an uncovered scrap trailer!!) meant I haven't been able to sit comfortably on a bike for a long, long time. It is so mentally freeing to be out enjoying the twisties again, even on a 40hp 400cc single! 😅
@@TAYMjust a little 😵💫 I had a double open fracture of my right femur, hip smashed through my pelvis, pelvis left in 9 pieces, dislocated left shoulder and fractured socket, bruising and contusions to my heart and lungs and 2 internal bleeds. All from going into a tree sideways at 48mph, in a 50 limit... 90's Japanese cars are pretty soft, as I found out!! 3 months in Addenbrookes hospital recovering and nearly 9 months off of work! I've not got as much metal work as Barry Sheene, but I'm close! Lol 😂 The thing that hurt me most was just having had my engine rebuilt after it blew. (So much for a "low mileage" GTR!) Brand new turbos, forged internals, the works... I only did 50 miles running it in, insurance paid out for the car, but that didn't include the value of what I'd spent on the rebuild work, just over £8k. 😑 That, and no more motorbikes! Until now! 😁👍
First I've heard of the handling criticism , I've never ridden one but knowing Triumph I would guess it's more to do with the use of the name "Daytona" than any real issue. The motorcycle market has moved on and It's a bike built for the road to a price point not an all singing track scalpel .

I,ve got the 660 tiger great bike , but , I’ve turned the automatic signals of because they turn of before you enter the turn (( bit like car drivers ) so can be dangerous to other road users and stuck them on manual. Great looking bike the Daytona 😊👍👍
I was about to comment that your Suzuki is probably better for you if it's more comfortable to ride. Then I remembered you own a cafe racer so must be a glutton for punishment! Joking aside, you probably made the right choice. The revised Trident engine is presumably primarily focused on the top end which isn't all that accessible on public roads. Whereas your Suzuki is a more rounded package.
I like the looks of the Daytona, but it’s not really my cup of tea unfortunately, would bring myself in trouble as well😂 But I do like seeing these bikes! I’m curious what the ’feeling’ is after a longer ride for you TAYM, it suits you
Triumph triples are all good. I loved my 765 but I found I could not carry any luggage on it. A long weekend away meant a rucksack and that hurt my back and so I traded the bike and got an NC750X ( that really was a big mistake). If you're going on a little trip and the Suzuki will take a rack or side luggage then it's the one that's right.

Oh and hooray for self-cancelling indicators!😁
I.d lose my licence on that. Its the sound not the speed. But to get the sound you need the speed. That's why I sold my zx6. Everytime I went out I was over a ton. Not good. Fun though. Anything over 60 is exciting these days 😮

Hello Taym: For you I don't think you made a mistake. Suzuki makes great quality reliable machines. For me either would be a mistake as I don't get on with the sport bike or cafe riding position and I would surely miss the sound and feel of a long stroke 360 degree twin with all that low end torque. Torque characteristics are more important to me on the road than anything else. The lazy roll on power of those twins is intoxicating once you experience it and it makes on road use effortless and fun even at legal speeds. Both of those are great bikes but just not for me personally. BJ
Check out terry's video of being a back marker for a Kawasaki ride out and he was on a used early model W800. His opinion of the bike seemed to change a bit the longer he had been riding it. I think you will eventually migrate back to mid sized simple twin as I know you sometimes miss your W800 Cafe. I know I would miss mine. In the mean time enjoy what ever bike you choose to ride. There are no wrong choices really. BJ
Some folks just like all the cold specs but most of us don't buy a bike because it has 2hp more or because it has 1 degree more lean angle, we buy bikes because of how they make us feel. The senses test is just a way of putting those feelings into words so don't listen to the Moaning Minnies that complain tell 'em to go and watch other channels if they just want a spec list. Did you buy the wrong bike? I don't know but I would say that there must have been something that drew you to the GSX over the Triumph so I don't think you did buy the wrong bike just made a different choice.
I basically know nothing about the specs of the bikes I own! A friend knows them all intimately and always asks things like what bhp, how many gears etc? I just ride them! Like Hailwood said on the Ducati at the TT, ‘what gear? Don’t know, how many has it got!’ 🤣
It sounds far too revvy at 60 in top gear. Why don't most manufacturers make the top gear an overdrive for more relaxed cruising? You can still have fun with the lower gears.
When I watch this video and think about my old cbr/gpz naughty boy days.. Feeling a bit ashamed of what I did back then and staying away from this sort of bikes, so I don't do it again 😂😂 .. It's tempting .. And my neck will hurt if I survive 🤣🤣🤣
Theres something cool about seeing videos from local areas. These look brilliant and you can get some great graphics kits for them (if your inclined). Own a SP3 1200RS and love most things triumph put out.
You made the right choice TAYM, the Suzuki is a far better bike for the use you bought it for and looks prettier too. Why are Triumph totally incapable of designing an electronic dash, their analogue clocks look lovely but their lcd screens look like they’ve been designed by drug taking teenagers!
These 660 bikes 🏍 fly & don't really get going till about 5000rpm & ton up quick especially with quick shifter.Handling is adequate for road use but can get a upgraded shock. Definitely worth getting the quick shifter.The Triumph triples have the self canceling indicators which is marvelous.Yoy can ring them out & they take it & when time comes get Mechelen Road 6 tyre's.I put fender extender on Trident.If Triumph put this engine in a modern classic frame like 1970's Trident they'd have a winner.

Ah this is an easy one to answer. Most definitely not. The Suzuki is superior in almost every aspect and the customer service from Suzuki is just on another level. Enjoy the GSX-8R and forget about the "Triumph" which is nothing more than a generic motorcycle with a Triumph badge slapped on the side to fill a gap on the market.
