Please add more obstacles to your testing. Floor to ceiling mirrors and windows would be good. Also, coffee tables with half or 1 inch bars on the floors become "hump zones". Put a couch on an angle with a clearance from 3 to 5 inches, to give the robots plenty of chances to wedge in. Hang a bunch of clothes such that they droop a little down onto the floor, perhaps with some of them in those clear plastic dry cleaning bags. Tightly spaced barstools where they get confused by all the legs. Thick and thin carpets. Lots of different shoes with shoelaces. Carpets with tassels.
All the vacuums these days perform well enough for cleaning, but having to service a robot that keeps getting lost or stuck is the big remaining frustration, and nobody seems to be doing a thorough job of testing these things.

    Hi there…
Very in-depth review - I know you did a Roborock review a while ago. In your initial S7 review you mentioned about the wear and tear on the the robot and the durability of the build quality and parts. Particularly with the vibrating mop function.

I love the approach that this channel takes towards reviewing, especially when it comes to robot vacs (which can be quite expensive). Though only time will tell how useful the new test data is, I have to commend the effort that must have been put into first designing and then running the new tests.
On a different note, weren't we talking about auto-mop drying earlier this year around CES? I suppose we're still waiting for the models slated for release later this year to debut that feature?

I'm planning on buying the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra when it comes out, but I'm intrigued by the L10s. Like a lot of people, I have grout lines. The hard floor tests in the video don't seem to take them into consideration. The L10s mop pads look like they would be able to get further down into grout lines, whereas the Roborock probably just hovers above them.

    • @timwds89
      @timwds89 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I just purchased an l10s. The mop pads are quite thick and soft, more like a traditional mop. My old deebot mop pads were just a microfiber with a rigid back from what I can tell is similar to the roborocks. The rigid pads tend to just fill grout with dirty mop water...

Nowadays Roborock seems to have got much of the credit they always deserved and their stuff has started to get a bit premium and Dreame seems to have picked up that value torch. Double roller which improves hair pickup on carpets and a slight improvement on the sonic mop. The Ultra station now has a built in mop dryer. They dropped the camera system (thus I still prefer the S7 MaxV) but they may have an S8 MaxV in the pipeline. IMO (and shared by many in the forums) not worth the upgrade if your coming from an S7 MaxV.

I have a L10s ultra and my experience is consistent with yours. The mop lifting is inadequate. I always do a vacuum only cycle first, switch to carpet avoidance, and then do a mopping cycle. I didn't have s7 MaxV, but I heard they don't have mop drying function and that their mop pad may smells bad after a few days. I can't verify any of that, but the drying function on L10s ultra is good enough and my mop pad doesn't smell after weeks of usage. I think that is something people should be aware of.

  • @timwds89

I purchased the L10S Ultra after my Deebot T9+ died recently. I have to say I'm absolutely blown away by this thing. I live in a cluttered old farm house with dogs, kids, rabbit warren floor layout, the least robot friendly household.
My Deebot constantly ate cables and got stuck under the couch. The auto empty feature was unusable because it blocked with hair/fluff even if used daily. After manually returning it to the base after a failure it would often fail to self locate and create a new map meaning I'd lose all customisation and have to delete maps or set them up from scratch. Nightmare.
The L10S Ultra...It is yet to eat a cable or get stuck. I've noticed if it starts to get bogged climbing up some small steps we have, it will reverse back, straighten itself and hit it with speed to get up, crazy smart! We have a few levels in the house that require us to place it manually. I've set these parts of the house as separate maps. When it's required to self locate, it takes a wander around the room to take multiple samples unlike the Deebot, super intuitive! The vacuuming performance is what you'd expect from a high end unit but the mopping exceeded my expectations. I was initially concerned that a lack of built-in water tank (on the robot) but after seeing it work it makes a lot of sense. Adding water to the pad on the go (like the Deebot) tends to just rinse the pad onto the floor. The L10S strategy of rinse and repeat may take a little longer but it really does an amazing job. I also feel the rotary style mops will be a little more durable in the long run since it is basically just a drive motor on the robot side, no vibration mechanisms or pumps. The l10s dock is the same footprint as the Deebot dock despite having the mop cleaning, the roborock dock looks like a monster!
There are many more little things that the L10S does well but I'd be writing an essay. highly recommend by a happy customer!

I got my L10s after about 13 years of using iRobot 780 and what I have noticed is that suction power of iRobot was better. In small rooms with hard floors like kitchen-it is visible that after iRobot there is not a single crumb, while after L10s you can still notice it here and there.
But l10s is no doubts easier to operate-you don’t need to remove wires and other stuff from the floor before cleaning.

I have a set of 8 stairs in my livingroom connecting my kitchen at a minimum 35 degree angle the further i extend the lower the angle it needs to climb

During your "stain test" the robots make multiple passes over the same spot, can you do that during a normal clean? I have roborock s7 MaxV ultra because of this channel, but i cant get it do multiple passes. I have to set a zone and do multiple cleaning runs. Any tips?

I had the l10s ultra. You should compare the cleaning of the mopping pads and how big area the robot can mop in one run.
The l10 does not clean the pads close to the center and it runs out of water after just 10-12m2

You forgot to mention that the Dreamy dries its mops by heat, which the other vacuum robot does not do. At the current price difference, the Dreamy is clearly the better choice for me.

Your the place to go to for vacuums, and robots. you could ad an couple more scores to your tests. That’s the size of the bin systems less surface used the better, quality and feel of the material used, and a subjective one, esthetics.

Dreametech in Aus charges $2.5k AUD for their L10s Ultra which is the same price as Roborock S7 MaxV, think in the US it's only $999 USD rrp. Day light robbery even considering 10%GST on top and the exchange rate

Great test, but I never understood how any robot always picks up everything in the "limited space debris test". When I run Roborock S7 at my home, it always, always, leaves an uncleaned/unmopped ~3cm patch right next to kitchen kickboard. Maybe something to tweak in the test and introduce kickboard-like environment, and test mopping, not just vacuuming there?

This isn't new information, but I've had many Robot vacuums and the Roborocks have been by far the best at navigation in real-world conditions and the least likely to need assistance during their cleaning runs - so, an overall better experience than the likes of Roomba, Shark, Deebot, and Neato.

The S7 has a lot of problems with getting the dust and debris into the bin. This is especially true when you have fine dog hairs that basically blocks the bin. We have a golden retriever and use the robot every single day.

I think for the obstacle avoidance, you should weigh the animal waste more than other objects. If a vacuum doesn't avoid the animal waste it will ruin the robot but not avoiding a cloth isn't as bad.

You gave the roborock an 8 for obstacle avoidance test, and the dreamtech a 7.
But on the video segment before, the scores for the roborock add up to 11 vs the 7 of the dreamtech. So seems roborock is a lot better than that segment portrays. Mistake?

The toys test the roborock wins 3-1 shows the l10s delicately avoiding obstacles while the roborock is attacking toys left and right and even picks one up and starts jousting with it.
