      I believe there's a reason for that: Vader was a complete Sith Lord, kanan didn't even finished his Jedi training, therefore, he wasn't expecting him to think the same strategy.

      Well for one that appeared in the comics after this show so they just stole that idea. As well given that all inquisitors use that style of lightsaber, he could not really change much about that weakness beyond keeping moving. Kanan cornered him half off the ledge meaning he had to stay still. If he could move he could have prevented his lightsaber from being a relatively easy target. If Kanan had missed the constant hammering from the Inquistor's lightsaber likely would have disarmed him by knocking the lightsaber out of his hand.

      I feel that the Grand Inquisitor's fighting style was Niman with a strong Makashi element to it. When he fought with a single blade, he generally used one hand and was very cut and thrust, similar to Count Dooku (just not as well done). When fighting with two blades, he made sure to be as unpredictable as possible, utilising the benefits inherent to his weapon, similar to what Exar Kun did (just not as well done as Kun)

    I know I have pointed this out, but The Grand Inquisitor is so much like Admiral Zhao from Avatar--both are voiced by Jason Isaachs, they're both Imperial officers who are the main antagonists of the first season. During the first season finale, they fight their enemies atop a bridge, and they graciously accept their deaths and commit suicide. Their deaths lead to more dangerous foes appearing at the respective finales' ending scenes.

    What I like about this scene is Kanan actually though Ezra died, and acted like it. Correct. He feared losing Ezra, then his worst nightmare came true when Ezra "died". Kanan faced that critical moment, but instead of succumbing to grief, he mastered it and processed his grief in the Jedi way. He mastered his fear in a way that Anakin never could. What I really like in this duel is that when Kanan believes Ezra died, the standard reaction is anger. In star wars terms this means the stock solution would be to tap into the dark side and use anger at his fallen apprentice to win the day (or alternatively fail and learn that the dark side is bad yada yada).
    But instead they take the opportunity to show off the basis and utility of the Jedi ideology. Kanan initially falls into despair but you can see he calms himself. He detaches himself and is released of all fear because his most immediate fear has come to pass. It's this jedi equilibrium that allows him to defeat the inquisitor. He is now balanced. This is what I think he means when he says the force is more powerful than fear.

      @@sumanadasawijayapala5372 The Sith’s view on fear is, at best, a coping mechanism for their own insecurities. Let’s be real; Darksiders like the Inquisitors, and even Sith Lords like Vader and Palpatine, are all afraid of something or other and because of that they convince themselves that fear makes them stronger. Without that, they have nothing left other than the fear of what drove them to the Dark Side in the first place. The Inquisitor’s are afraid of the Sith, so they turn that fear into a weapon to kill remaining Jedi so they don’t face punishment. Palpatine is, at his core, afraid of death. It’s why he is obsessed with cloning and the transference of consciousness, along with making himself the most important man in the galaxy. He’s terrified of his own mortality, but if he can’t live forever then he’ll make sure the universe remembers him. Vader’s fear is different, however, to the fear that drove him to the Dark Side: the fear of losing his loved ones. From what I can tell from his appereances in comics and video games like Vader Immortal, the only thing Vader truly fears anymore is himself, and the things he’s done. If he lets go of the power of the Dark Side for even a momen, he’ll remember who he was, all the people he lost and the terrible things he’s done. Obi-Wan had it right: The Dark Side is strong, but those who stand against it are even stronger, because they can move past their fear.

    • @Needler13
      @Needler13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      TheSunStudio1 He can say whatever he wants but they're not sith nor jedi. He isn't a sith acolyte and Ventress wasn't one either. She was an assassin who thought she was one but they used her like a dog on the hunt and nothing more.
      Kanan even says it in "a new dawn" book that he isn't a jedi. Just like Ashoka, he never finished his trials and became one. Ashoka leaving on her own accord.
      Also the reason why Ventress and the inquisitor was never a sith acolyte is because of the rule of two. There can only be two sith and if one of them were training another sith then the other one will kill that acolyte. They never taught them force lightning, or the real sith teachings. Vader can't use force lightning for one reason and one reason only, it would fry his life support on the suit.
      That is why in the old legends material Starkiller was a "secret apprentice" because if sidious found out Vader was training someone so Vader can take the emperors place you know he would have just killed him right there and then,

      Dark Acolytes are simply just servants of the Sith Lords, they do not own the title of 'Darth'. Therefore, they do not break the Role of Two. Plus, the Rule of Two had already been broken! If you read the official novel Darth Plagueis you will know that there are three Sith Lords holds the title of 'Darth' in the same time!(Darth Plagueis, Darth Sidious and Darth Maul)

    • @Needler13
      @Needler13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      TheSunStudio1 No but sith acolytes are still trained by the sith to become sith. That isn't the case here. He wasn't trained at all to take the sith title.
      You bring up Darth Plaguesis Book which isn't canon anymore. The rule of two was never broken. When Sidious was training Maul that was in preparation to take the Masters thrown. This is the sith way of the rule of two.
      The master trains his apprentice and the apprentice in time will train another and kill his master and take his place. That is the rule of two, that is why when Maul came back in the clone wars Sidious had to kill him. He had become a rival when he started to train Savage Opress and Maul has been replaced by Dooku.
      Also sith acolytes aren't canon anymore either, that was an old republic thing that was purged as well.

      TheSunStudio1 He's not trained in the ways of the sith. He's just trained in the dark side.
      Also the rule of two and Darth Bane is canon. In the clone wars (which is canon) he shows up and even Yoda confirms he created the rule of two. the rule of two is still in place since sidious went to kill Maul because he was a rival, he was no longer his apprentice. He became another sith that had his own apprentices which conflicts with the rule of two.
      I know Maul didn't kill him, he escaped in son of dathomir which is also canon but the fact remains that the inquisitor isn't sith because it conflicts with the rule of two. They're just dark side users, not sith. More like Ventress.

    I always liked Kanan's seamless integration of blaster fire into his fighting style here. Don't know if it exists elsewhere in canon or Legends, but it'd be cool to see more of that hybrid style of combat.
    Of course, blasters are considered "so uncivilized" if we're talking strict, traditional Jedi, but I think it'd fit well for "wayward Order 66 survivor" types like Kanan.

      The Inq. Then salutes by 'tapping' the saber to his forehead which Kanan returns. If you watch the clip where Kanan fights the Temple guard, the guard mimics the motion before the duel. Which is fitting since it's the same being.

    Considering Vader traps the Grand Inquisitor’s soul in a Sith Mind Prison to be tortured for all eternity, he wasn’t kidding.

    I love Ezra’s lightsaber. It’s a shame that Vader ruined it at the end of the second season. 0:09 to 0:17 shows how cool the lightsaber is. Kanan is so smart, especially for someone who was only an apprentice during Order 66.

    I kinda feel like these 2 are supposed to be the spiritual successors of dooku and obi wan. You can tell the grand inquisitor uses form 2 due to him alway going back to a one handed stance and he’s quick and fluid movements. As well as how kanan uses he own revises version of form 3 as was said when the 2 first met. While on opposite sides you can tell they do have a level of respect for each other especially when they did the jedi salute before fighting.

      He was. After Ezra 'died', Kanan mastered his fear and began to embrace his true potential as a Jedi. He began to fight far better than before, enough that even the Inquisitor was no match for him.
