As someone who can only go down to a E flat 2 easily but has no problems with high notes, I'm jealous of this group's talent like holy crap this group is incredible
Most Super Basses have an incredible range and can sing higher and lower than most regular voices. It has something to do with the thickness of the vocal chords. Jewel slightly explained this after Home Free's Ring of Fire performance on The Sing Off. Tim Foust has 5 octave range and she wasn't surprised.
That’s really interesting that basses tend to have wider ranges! The person with the widest recorded range in the world has something like C-5 to C5, but four octaves are sub audible so...
Had it been Geoff singing this song in the actual movie, I think children would've peed themselves on that last note in the theaters... And women would've been impregnated. And men emasculated. Quite the havoc, actually...
@@Thevoiceplay I watched this video with subtitles, because I wanted to see if they got it correct, and the last few notes were mentioned in brackets. "(lower) the oogie boogie man. I loved Geoff as Oogie Boogie and how he displayed his complete range. I dare say I love this version better than the original 💕
I'd suggest checking out David Micheal Bennet of Steam Powered Giraffe. He does a lot of wide range work and has a similar higher range tone. Not quite as powerful low range as Geoff but still great. Hot on the Trail is a good starting point.
Hello Voiceplay! I'm a teacher in the Netherlands (primary school, groep 6) and I listen to your songs for quite a while now. My students had some difficult exams this week, so I showed a few of your videos for relaxation during their breaks. In any case.. UnofficialProductions, tbh this whole thing has me sooooooo confused. I saw a video with my dad, where Geoff said that it was his chest note for the video, but then I saw a video where Geoff said that it was sub harmonics. So I'm just every confused. If you've done fact checks and whatnot, good for you, you definitely know your stuff.
I don't think Geoff gets enough appreciation for his voice. His vocal range is PHENOMANAL. Like, come on dude. How does your voice has sucha large range? I adore it so much. I could be wrong, but i've read *and* heard his voice reach the lowest subnotic vocal possible AND reach the highest vocal possible. Geoff's range is absolutely stunning and he has a gorgeous voice. While he is the bass of the group, I wish he did more singing with his middle range voice.
I Understand what you mean, But that First part 'I don't think Geoff gets enough appreciation for his voice. ' Even In The Songs (Like Kidnap The Sandy Claws) He's Not Meant to Be a Big Part, But Most Of the Comments Are About Geoff. You are Correct, But I'd Word It Differently
@@raydar2877 no. It doesn't matter if he's a "big part" or not. Bass is a HUGE important part. He does not get enoufh appreciation for his voice. The only reason the comments here are mostly about Geoff is because he's the main singer on this video.
@@ashy_pie I Agree With The First Parts, Bu t the Last Sentence, He Gets Appreciation On His Voice On Every Video, Even If That Appreciation Isn't On Every Comment, So I Might've Misworded What I Meant, But I Don't Think you Understood what I meant.
@@ashy_pie I highly disagree. in almost all videos where Geoff even remotely goes for a very low note all comments are about his vocal range. Moana, Daddy Sang Bass, Frozen, Little Mermaid, etc.
That final low note he hit... Was I the only one who was intimidated and awed by that? It was as close to a true evil growl as a human can get. It's amazing and this song was awesome!
This man finishes off a song by going from a B4 to an E1 in 10 seconds. Such a flex. This is how range should be utilized! It's not about how high or how low you can go, it's about how you use it in your arrangement. Absolutely fantastic.
It is very common to have a wide upper range if you have a wide low range. A good way to warm up your lower end is to actually warm up your high end first.
A capella cover arrangements usually wouldn't fit the original score, but this is waaaaaay better than the original. The most theatrical performance I've seen from VoicePlay so far. The characterization is really fun!
He's got a qna video up on his own channel where he sings both the original end (pretty nice) and this one, which is lower. It's just as good with nobody else singing with him. The rest of the band make it better because they harmonize well, but hearing it on it's own? Earthshakingly deep and amazing to hear that clearly.
Ha. I'd take a *third* of his range and be happy. I don't even care which third. (Not trying to be a professional singer here, I'd just like to be able to sing when everyone else is singing. Like, I'd like to be able to hit all the notes in Happy Birthday without wrapping around from the top of my range to the bottom. Part of the problem is that the keys that are most comfortable for other most other people, tend to be exactly the wrong ones for me; but also, my range is only just barely more than an octave, on a good day. When I have a *bad* voice day, there are notes I categorically cannot hit in any octave at all, which is frustrating, because no amount of training myself to jump from the top of my range to the bottom or vice versa can overcome this.)
Not only vocally, but also in acting, this music video is a masterpiece. I love the way Geoff moves his head while singing the high "im the oogie boogie man". Good job guys.
It's incredible! He can sing tenor B4. Not all tenors can sing this note in full voice. Many people switch to the mix. And then he goes down to crazy low notes. One of the best voices in our time!
@@Guest.7289_2 I meant that many people switch to falsetto on this note and it's noticeable. And in his case, this note sounds like a chest voice. I even thought so at first.

Geoff Castellucci your best = perfect
Rip to the man who just passed away a few days ago who voices Oogie in the Nightmare before christmas my prayers go out to him and his family
I'm always wondering how Geoff maintains high notes yet having constant low notes… How is he training…

When he suddenly went high, I literally died. His vocal range is unbelievable.
I actually find his high note breath taking 🙈 his lows are impressive, but not nearly as pleasant or powerful
At the beginning, he got up to a D5 0:16
Had it been Geoff singing this song in the actual movie, I think children would've peed themselves on that last note in the theaters... And women would've been impregnated. And men emasculated. Quite the havoc, actually...

Geoff's low notes are God teir but his high notes singing voice is so hypnotic, I could listen to his entire range all day long
He did a song on his channel called High and Dry, I’m not sure if you’ve heard it, but it really shows off his upper range 🖤
Geoff has a bunch of solo videos on here. All very awesome.
I'd suggest checking out David Micheal Bennet of Steam Powered Giraffe. He does a lot of wide range work and has a similar higher range tone. Not quite as powerful low range as Geoff but still great. Hot on the Trail is a good starting point.
Never had someone's voice go so deep as to resonate on my subwoofer
Dude. This is an old track. He’s expanded his range since then. Look up his solo stuff. The name is Geoff Castellucci.

The ending though
Geoff just dropped a B4 and an E1 in the space of ten seconds. Let that sink in.
It wasn't sub harmonics. It was his chest voice. And the note wasn't an E1, it was a B flat 1. Thank you.
B4 was not head, it was a very chesty mixed note. And the last was definitely an E1 and definitely a sub harmonic.
UnofficialProductions, tbh this whole thing has me sooooooo confused. I saw a video with my dad, where Geoff said that it was his chest note for the video, but then I saw a video where Geoff said that it was sub harmonics. So I'm just every confused. That last chord legitimately sent shivers down my spine. Geoff is absolutely insane and so are the others.
I've been shaking for the past 5 minutes over this song, this song is perfection!!!

Rest in peace Ken Page

It is very common to have a wide upper range if you have a wide low range. A good way to warm up your lower end is to actually warm up your high end first.
A capella cover arrangements usually wouldn't fit the original score, but this is waaaaaay better than the original. The most theatrical performance I've seen from VoicePlay so far. The characterization is really fun!
That last note vibrated my soul in a very very good way
You don't hear that last note with your ears, you hear it with your SOUL
@@pajamas_the_emo Omg, absolutely!! i'm sooo glad you guys understand what i'm feeling!
Geoff’s little part in the back at 1:20 makes me so happy

Ugh same.
If you're a baritone or bass learn subharmonics to get *close.* You and I will still probably never sound *as* good, but we can sure try
When you did this for ACA-Top 10 villains I was like “there’s no way that they’d do a full vid of this” but you did and omg my week is made

It's incredible! He can sing tenor B4. Not all tenors can sing this note in full voice. Many people switch to the mix. And then he goes down to crazy low notes. One of the best voices in our time!
