    From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted,” “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”), THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life. The ensemble series stars MacFarlane as the ship’s Commanding Officer, Ed Mercer, and Adrianne Palicki (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Friday Night Lights”) as his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, who’s assigned as his First Officer. Additional cast members include Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn (“24,” “The Larry Sanders Show”), Scott Grimes as Gordon Malloy (“ER,” “Justified”), Peter Macon as Bortus (“Shameless,” “Bosch”), Halston Sage as Alara Kitan (“Neighbors,” “Goosebumps”), J. Lee as John LaMarr (FAMILY GUY, “The Cleveland Show”), Mark Jackson as Isaac (“That Royal Today”) and Chad L. Coleman as Klyden (“The Walking Dead,” “The Wire”). The Orville has been renewed for a second season.

      In the really old days, it was like shiny metals, unique elements and rocks. Someone invented a system that someone promised to pay you the rocks with a note. However, notes then became plastic cards with the same promise to pay but instead of rocks, you are paying with your ability to cover the cost. The strange part is some people still want us to buy lots of the shiny metal in the past...maybe it was a lot easier! XD

    I want to give a big shout out to the writers, for how they are catching the spirit of the original Star Trek, by addressing issues we are facing in our present culture, in a non-biased way. I am really coming to love this show, because it is fun, and while it faces modern issues, it does so without taking sides. Other networks and our politicians could learn something from this show.

    • @Opinwood
      @Opinwood 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I totally agree, Green Man!

    • @dolnick7
      @dolnick7 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Without taking sides? That has never constituted good writing, or good science fiction. The analogy to the danger that religion represents over society in denying reality in "If Stars Should Appear" definitely presented us with a point of view, and a valid one. Bad writing is just entertainment; good writing actually encourages us to think.

    • @dolnick7
      @dolnick7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @Troll Hunter HD Religion certainly isn't responsible for every evil in the world. Regarding your example, the communists of Russia merely transferred the unquestioned power of God into an unquestioned power of the state. Neither version of such obedience is ideal. I would agree with you that at this time Islam presents the most toxic version of religious delusion; but I fail to see any upside to telling innocent children ancient Hebrew fairy tales of eternal damnation as if they are somehow real.

    • @dolnick7
      @dolnick7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @NinjaRider777R "Except for when it tells you not to think and just to listen and obey." In that case, Ninja, it ain't good writing. :)

    • @dolnick7
      @dolnick7 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Troll Hunter HD God has no power at all, as I do not believe any God has been shown to exist; blind belief, on the other hand, has immense power. The transfer I referenced was not something that Lenin consciously did, although as a student of the seminary he was certainly aware of the power of religion to control people's minds. My comment was directed to theists who point to the Soviet Union as an example of what happens when a society "abandons God," as they would put it. This is instead an example of what happens when the blind faith in a God is replaced by the blind faith of simply another authority figure. The skeptical stance that Atheism requires applies to examining and rejecting as many false beliefs as possible, be they religious or political. Regarding the Orville, I am excited to finally see science fiction topics examined from Seth MacFarlane's (Atheist) perspective. It's about time this point of view was presented to a mainstream audience. Hopefully by the time we actually reach the Orville's time frame humanity can rid itself of these toxic religious superstitions.

    I love this show because it is original/ next gen star trek. The comedy choices they make actually make the characters realistic. Like for me when they are having an argument and a distress call comes in it goes from inane ribbing straight to business just like real life.

      A LOT looser than the Federation's though. The Union's main concern was that revealing the existence of alien species to a (comparatively) primitive civilization could cause mass-panic seems reasonable. But, unlike Starfleet, they appear to consider leaving people to the cold mercy of fate to be a step too far. As shown with how they opted to save the bioship and the people aboard even though doing so meant massively changing their culture.

    • @daniels7907
      @daniels7907 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try to remember that a *lot* of what is now considered canon were just stray plot points back in TOS. The Prime Directive was little more than a minor rule that could be flouted easily in the TOS era. It wasn't until TNG that it became the Federation's state religion.

    Their briefing on the alien society probably should have been a little longer if the crew did not even understand how money/capitalism works.

    My emoji button isn’t working, now people won’t know weather I’m being serious or not. I’ve encountered some commenters that couldn’t understand the concept of emojis.
    I love the Orville. I liked the episode, but I kept wondering why doesn’t anyone who gets disliked on that planet just dislike someone right back. The guy gets disliked because of a coffee spill, dislike the disliker right back. Dislike those cops too. Dislike the talkshow woman who disliked you the moment you walked on the show. Perhaps a deleted scene explains that disliking your disliker is illegal.
    I like Alara Kitan

      Why would Lamarr say "I Dig it?" They use old style (and 20th century) vernacular in this show all the time. Doesn't make sense, but that's the STYLE the writers went for.

    I have mixed feelings about the episode. While I like the basic premise, a world where social media is the justice system, I was appalled at how Lt. LaMarr was portrayed as some sort of ghetto dude with an attitude. That was beyond lame.

    This show is getting better and better with each episode. I love the social commentary here. This is what rabid liberals want. Believing consensus means facts, doing away with the Electoral College. I understand MacFarlane is a liberal, but it seems he still has his head on his shoulders.

    • @newpapyrus
      @newpapyrus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is only-- one office-- that the electoral college is used for in America's democratic republic. And there is no logical reason to use it for electing the president of the United States. The fact that we currently have a mentally challenged right wing extremist in the White House tells you how dangerous the electoral college really is. Of course, the mental case in the White House actually believes he got a majority of the votes:-)
