  • These are some of my favorite scenes with Ed and Alara or Alara talking about Ed because it's super totally obvious she has a crush on him and keeps trying to get information from Kelly. I own nothing I just really like this show and ship Ed Mercer and Alara Kitan too hard.

    The best thing about Ed and Alara's relationship (calm down, shippers) is just how much they respect each other. To Ed, Alara is a damn good security officer and that's it. He doesn't care about her gender or species, he just values her as a person and a member of his crew. God, Alara needs to come back for season 3

He knows how to act, write, sing, improvise, do impressions, and how to pick a phenomenal cast of people who know exactly what their job is. Despite how people feel about Family Guy, American Dad, etc... he really is an amazing performer.

    There is nothing shippy about it at all in my eyes.
    Ed was the father figure she always wanted, he appreciated her skills and herself the way she was.
    This ship is just based on their real life dating rumours, might they be true or not, it's just their business.

    I loved how he always picked her up, made her feel worth something.
    In std they berated a male for his fallacies and awkwardness, and was just terrible.
    In STNG with Lt Barclay, they worked with him on his holodeck addiction and social anxiety, bringing people together, this show really gave that again, more so than any other ST SHOW AFTER DS9

      Wait, when did that happen in Star Trek Disco?

    • @ki5aok
      @ki5aok ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@YggdrasilAudio It was a Discovery Short Treks, those 10-15 minute short episodes that were like web episodes (you stream them like Discovery). The episode is called "The Trouble with Edward," a play on to "The Trouble with Tribbles"...and, yes, this episode is about tribbles as well.
      I couldn't find anyone who may have posted the entire episode, but there are plenty of people who made videos commenting about it.
      I watched the 15 minute episode and, honestly, that's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
      The problem with the episode is that the captain (who was just promoted to Captain and received command of a science vessel), deals with an eccentric crew member (similar in ways to Reginald Barclay) in the worst way possible. Unlike in TNG, where Barclay's talents were honed and crew members like La Forge and Troy worked with Barclay to help him interact better with his team, this particular captain:
      1. Instantly dismisses Edward's suggestion to use Tribbles as a food source,
      2. Reassigns him to hydroponics (even though he is a protein specialist and plants aren't his specialty) without evaluating his strengths and contributions,
      3. Files a transfer for him after Starfleet receives several "anonymous" transmissions questioning her leadership and command skills (granted, a dick move by Edwards, but in reality you're going to run into people like that under your leadership) before confronting him.
      4. Fails to questions him as to why he did it (instead forces the end of the conversation after Edwards protested that he did not get to tell his side of the story), and
      5. After the ship was lost due to the fast breeding of the Tribbles (done by genetic manipulation by Edwards...mainly to prove to everyone he could make them into a food source), she calls him an idiot in front of a Starfleet Board of Inquiry.
      It is a god awful mini episode. Ranks right up there with the warp 10 salamander episode of Voyager, the final episode of Enterprise, or S1E3 Code of Honor from TNG.

      @@ki5aok Ah, that one lol, no most of what you're describing is either removed from the initial context or exaggerated to sound more bad than it actually is. There is a great video on Rowan J Coleman's channel pointing out the many issues with the criticisms that episode got.

    1. *_Non-Romantic Perspective_** ~* I never got the feeling of Alara having a crush on Ed. I always felt Alara's perception of Ed was pretty much how Alara described it in *[ORV 2x03 - "Home"],* when Alara talked (argued) with her father over her choice of Union military-service, that Alara saw Captain Mercer as a Mentor & father-figure (which was extra-harsh for talking about such a subject *WITH* her own father!).
    2. *_Crush vs. Respect_** ~* Alara looked up to Captain Mercer in admiration _(respect),_ rather than adoration (crush). This was because Ed gave Alara...
    - a.) Some much-needed _Self-Confidence._
    - b.) _Trust_ in Alara, and in her own capabilities, more than just her physical strength.
    - c.) Most important of all, *_Vindication_* about her own Self-Worth (Alara's university-tenured professor parents always saw her as lacking).
    3. *_Character Theme_** ~* Also, Alara is (was) _'The Kid'_ (character theme) of the Orville cast. This means the most of the cast (& Orville crew) viewed Alara as someone to be protected (emotionally, if not physically, in Alara's case), and guided towards character maturity (Captain Mercer and Commander Grayson taking up their mentorship roles over Alara). Likewise, as _'The Kid',_ Alara would not harbor romantic interest(s) in her Mentor-figure(s); any such interests would be more towards those closer to her age, maturity, and (most importantly) Life Experience range; this is why it was joked and loosely 'shipped between [Alara + Issac] (though obviously this went nowhere due to Halston Sage's departure from the Orville series).
    Nonetheless, thanks for uploading this compilation, 'Alara Kitan.' *:)*

      actually I ancerd my own question - the problem is that after you would still be stuck for a while on a small ship with an supper strength ex-girlfriend.

      It is curions that her ex-boyfriend was concerned about having a girlfriend which could knock his braids out with like one finger but was not affraid of how she could react when he brokeup with her...

    • @hagamapama
      @hagamapama ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The real problem with a super strength girlfriend is that it would be hard to get anyone else ot talk about something other than how strong she is. That's kinda what Alara's talking about here. It's not that the crew don't respect her it's that this is a thing that makes her different and it's hard for others to look past that attribute and see the rest of who she is, and she's young enough to feel a bit awkward about it

      Anything a member of the Union wants can be made with a synthesizer for energy, and energy is cheap. If all your needs can be met without money then the only thing to work for is the need to be involved with society. Which is a real need.
      There are probably a lot of humans who are "gainfully unemployed" and simply enjoying life. Probably a lot more who work because they feel they need to in order to be whole people. What you don't have is people working jobs they hate because it's either that or starve.
