Shes disliked because she's pretentious and has pick me girl energy. She's inauthentic. That rubs people the wrong way even more so than people doing outright bad things.
@@MissVanHelsing "She's inauthentic. That rubs people the wrong way even more so than people doing outright bad things." That's sounds like a people rubbing problem. People who do outright bad !@#$ rub me in more wrong ways than anyone being "pretentious". I don't really know anything about Anne Hathaway nor do I care to until she does something horrible like I dunno, supporting genocide or dehumanizing minority groups and spreading misinformation. "So why are you here?" Because the video thumbnail is cute and I was curious.
@@MissVanHelsing "A pick me is a woman that is willing to do anything for male approval. She will embarrass or throw other women under the bus to achieve this goal." Give me ONE instance where Anne Hathaway acted like a pick me. One instance where she did something to throw another woman under the bus. She was just being her authentic, determined, driven self.
An apparent reason: hollywood is a fake, corporate, narcissistic conglomerate which feeds propoganda, advertising and 'entertainment' to the masses. The female celebrities are chosen every 10 years to influence the culture; the same thing is happening to Zendaya right now - her career, acting, "iconic look" is entirely fake. We are "meant" to like her - to want to be her; but few want to and few can. Hence the push back. People will "hate" on what they are "meant" to love and adore - especially when they didn't chose it, and they don't have a choice
Yup! I'm just going to say anyone who cares so much about "the media" putting a popular entertainer in the spotlight is spending too much time thinking about "the media". We could all get real hobbies and friends, that could be a solution for this phenomenon.
They hate her because she gives them no valid reason to hate her. I've met people like that in real life. combine that with jealousy for her beauty, grace and status and voila! Hate from a miserable bunch.
It honestly reeks of projection of one's own insecurities to me. When I meet people who seem perfect I think 'cool, good for them' and move on with my life. And I'm not super confident, but I still can't imagine obsessively looking for a reason to dislike a person who seemingly did nothing wrong.
it has to be one of those thing where like the internet loves a woman until she reaches a certain level of fame and then they turn on her, and then people move on. like that cycle has happened with every single woman in the public eye at some point
I remember people hating her so strongly, and that constant comparison to Jennifer Lawrence, yet then a few years later everyone turned on Jennifer. It's so ridiculous how much we try to tear women down for just being themselves
@@pearlosibu exactly! I feel like the video touches on but misses the mark on the Hathaway hate. I never cared, or understood it until I watched this video. Subconsciously, most of us understand that perfection is sinister. The flawlessness is a mask. So the audience really doesn't know her. People don't hate her perfection or Lawrence's too authentic act. They're both being vilified for putting up a mask as different as these masks are. It just took the idiots longer to spot how fake the Lawrence shtick was.
@@tropistan7735exactly. I found this video too simplistic as well as victim-y. Oooh, people hate her pretty privilege. No. She’s fake. And our internal radar spots that. Beyond that, though, she is part of the woke mob that spouts inauthentic nonsense in the order of “kindness/empathy/performative activism/girlboss/victim of male oppression.” But this movie (and comments) were too stupid for me to bother. Let me point you to Martin Decoder. He does incredible work with speech analysis, pointing out the stuff I’ve mentioned above and has at least two videos on Anne Hathaway specifically. It’s such an eye opener. She’s incredibly fake and we must trust our instincts. Privileged white women playing victim and championing the cause of disenfranchised and underprivileged people as well as aligning themselves as part of the group is really disgusting. White women are all aboard this train because they cannot play race or lgbtq and know they cannot do those fat activism games either. What’s left? The patriarchyyyyyyyy. The only person left to fend for themselves is the white man. He better become trans or just get used to being hated. So all Hollywood actresses have joined.
@@pearlosibu of course they are not. They're all shapeshifters mimicking as humans. Thank God wise people like you who know that for sure-for sure because you spied in their bathrooms are here to educate us.
The “not sexy enough for Catwoman” thing is wild. Like OK Kevin, 37, from Iowa, you’re literally talking about one of the most beautiful humans to ever exist
A friend of mine is an Anne Hathaway hater and her reasoning is "she's a tryhard" . Which confused the hell out of me because you could probably say about anyone who acts for a living?
This is the real original reason behind the hate. It's not because she's a pretty, successful girl who reached epic levels of fame like a lot of people think. It has nothing to do with misogyny. People thought she came off as a smug know-it-all, talking down to people and treating others as "less," that she was a serious actress while others weren't. I never agreed with the hate, but in watching her interviews, you really can see how people feel that way.
I can relate to your friend's thoughts. Anne should be praised for trying so hard to appear in many films, but her stiffness and desire to be only liked makes it hard to watch them. I believe it's called flat acting.
she is one of the least problematic celebs. I understand why some celebs are hated - because they arent good people, too vulgar, too immature. but anne? she is great, professional and avoids drama. Honestly It seems that problematic people always hate non problematic ones because of envy. how dare she achieve success without drama!
It's wild. I saw a random tweet the other day saying she was beautiful and that others don't see it. Then a retweet with almost a million more likes proceed to say no one thinks she's ugly and that shes a dime a dozen. Every reply was all about her being below average and bland, nothing special, too skinny etc. like what? They hate her bc she's pretty but also because they don't find her pretty lol
How many of those people had a) their picture on the profile or b) seriously stunning? Beauty is subjective but there are objective aspects that can't be denied and calling her ugly or mid is wild 😅
@@goduxunike Beauty is objective because the golden ratio is an actual mathematical thing that defines what is beautiful in this universe. Attractiveness is completely subjective tho. Not everyone is beautiful, but everyone is attractive to someone.
Imma keep it real with you this just gives off the vibes of like- giving the okay for the vast wealth disparity the average person has with a wealthy person. Like no duh she's great- she can afford the cleanest water and best fertilizer while we all starve for sunlight.
@@rangles1050people do this even on the lower end of the wealth spectrum. The lack of perspective there makes it especially stupid when that happens. What's your response to that? Why not go for the bigger folks? Why attack those who have just a little more than you, but nowhere near as much as the most wealthy and powerful - just because they're in the vicinity? And how do we really know who is most wealthy and powerful in this society? It helps to research and reflect, and aim before the attack, is all I'm saying.
It’s called ‘tall poppy syndrome’ and my country is renowned for it. I think we got it from the Irish- they went off Bono and Conor McGregor before the rest of the world did, so.
I'm from Mexico, I have never ever heard someone hate her. People over here love her, like looooooove her. She "The Princess", to this day I still see images and videos talking about how great she is.
Makes sense. I feel like she got a lot more hate in western countries because I think in general, western culture values individualism and to an extent - errors, mistakes, goofiness. Makes sense why she was constantly compared to Jennifer Lawrence at the time, who was much more loved at the time for how "real" she was. Looking for those who are imperfect, and therefore relatable. On the other hand, other cultures value being put together or classiness.
I love Nickelback Specifically " Hero" for Spiderman 1. I was riding my bike to school took about 30 mins to ride, was listening it on repeat on my CD player lol. They seemed to be nice guys gentle giants. Never understood the Internet meme hate for them 🙄
In either 2009/2010 there was a readers poll in one of the Big tabloids (People or US magazine) about the most hated celebrities in America and Anne Hathaway was placed HIGHER on the list than Rnb singer, Chris Brown! For context, in case some commenters don’t know, Brown at that time had recently been CONVICTED of domestic violence against his then girlfriend, Rihanna. Just a little reminder of how completely deranged the hatred was for the wonderful Anne back then
Funny enough, I noticed the hate tide for Anne Hathaway started to turn when she did her amazing Wrecking Ball rendition at Lip Sync Battle. That went incredibly viral. It goes back to her showing her 'real authentic side': she wasn't afraid to make fun of herself while having fun, her chemistry with Emily Blunt, putting in the effort and going all out with her routine
As someone who grew up watching her films I have always LOVED her. People don’t like seeing successful women in impressive movie roles and in power w more money than they have
Also that was the era of j law and Emma stone that came across a bit more aloof and "down to earth and authentic" where she was still very Hollywood star media trained of the yesteryear. Edit: As you mentioned!
Isn’t that just another case of people hating a successful woman after a while? They get hyped and then hated. Happened to many celebrities. Happened to Jennifer Lawrence as well. Women aren’t allowed to shine and be confident about it for longer than a moment.
😢 I thought you were going to get a little more into the topic of misogyny, especially after **that one** "incident" that paparazzis made her go through. Definitely deserves a part 2!
people think she is too polite. i got slight hate at work because i wasn't willing to curse (at work) or act like im not at work around then. people basically think that you think you're better than them like "how dare you be professional"
I worked with unhoused teens for a bit and I was kind but firm, some of the boys didn’t like me because they thought I was being nice to them for an ulterior motive, like look kid I’m being nice because I want to, you’ve got nothing to offer in response, actually you’re being meaner to me for it. It’s definitely projection, like “yeah right you cant really be like that because I’m not therefore you’re fake” you know? Keep doing you, you eventually find your people 🤷🏼♀️
I got the same treatment at work too. I was always taught to be polite by my family. The other employees were so rude to the customers. They saw me as a goody two shoes and made fun of me all the time even though I was the one making conversation and smiling to customers.
i think it is kinda funny that a really nice person that does not have much of an edge to themselves gets so much hate? really shows that you can be the nicest, most kind and beautiful person and STILL people will hate on you.. which also is kinda nice to think about that even if you are at your best, you still will meet people who don't like you, so it does not really matte WHO likes you, as long as YOU like YOURSELF 😊
I'm a firm believer that irrational hate is mimetic in large groups of people. You can actually apply what you stated in your conclusion as to why professional wrestling works so well with fans. The showboating, overconfident, condescending villains of wrestling are written that way because people will naturally despise them as heels. It works every time, none better than Ric Flair whose whole persona is gloating about how much richer and better he is than you.
Funny how everyone's chasing perfection but if someone is perceived to have achieved it they are hated. If the end of this goal is just hate from peers then why does everyone chase it?
Sometimes people will hate on otherwise unproblematic female stars for being successful, beautiful, & talented -- I've seen people (IRL and drama channels) talk about JLaw in the same tone they discuss actual creeps/criminals like Dan Schnieder or Weinstein, who have caused real harm to others. It's baffling BEC shit
It always baffled me the hate for Anne Hathaway back in the 2010s. I loved her since Princess Diaries all the to now. Hating on her cause she's a great actress and a decent person is just so petty. Also, kinda ironic that nowadays Jennifer Lawrence is hated now due to some questionable friends she keeps. 👀
Yes people don't like her only because they wish she treated herself with less respect. They don't like her because they don't see her putting herself down. They don' t like that she is so confident in herself and don't seem to care what others think of her. It's really just self-loathing because these same people who hate her for this same reason, hate themselves for not being as confident as she is.
Alexis de Tocqueville describes this well in his book, "Democracy in America". There is a video summarizing his philosophy on the youtube channel "School of Life". Rising above the masses and elevating yourself in anyway will always come at the cost of offsetting other people's insecurities. That is why they turned on Jennifer Lawrence eventually. (no matter how relatable she seemed) That is why people obsess over bringing down celebrities, to feel better about themselves. Like you said, it explains the need for billionaires and celebrities to make themselves look normal especially now that relatability marketing is the in thing. The MET Gala aftermath and the blocking of celebrities on tiktok is proof of that.
I remember being told in high school I was “just too nice” and they said someone can’t be that genuine all the time…I remember snarking back with “ok, I guess I’ll make fun of you more” - this was with a fellow student I considered a childhood friend from growing up with them through elementary and middle school. Eventually when I ran into that same person when visiting their college one party weekend, I joked with them about what they said about me being “too nice” in high school. They embarrassingly laughed and said “yea, idk why I was such a hater to something like that”
I get the sense that people innately worry they're being used, or tricked, or scammed somehow when someone is really nice or agreeable. Used to be called 'buttering them up'.
I literally always loved Anne Hathaway ever since I saw her in Princess Diaries and Ella Enchanted, and when I got older and started using the internet I saw that people hated her and I've always been so confused by it. She always seemed like a lovely person and of course just an incredible actress, and I never saw anyone give an actual reason why she deserved any hate besides "I just don't like her, she seems annoying" and other dumb, vapid reasons. It just seemed like unhappy people being jealous or unhappy with their lives so they just needed someone to dogpile on to make themselves feel better. I'm happy the pendulum is starting to swing back for Anne Hathaway even if it's just a little bit at a time!
It’s a similar concept to very popular and aesthetically appealing and conventionally very attractive people talk about how “awkward” they were while growing up. The average person sees that and thinks “yeah, right” with an eye roll and whatever comments they have. I don’t have a problem with Anne or Jennifer. Funny thing is, I haven’t heard similar things about Julia Roberts. She has a giant mouth/smile too, similar features and personality, etc yet she’s been seen as “America’s sweetheart” for decades
This is all a reflection of these ppl. They're literally insufferable and miserable. It's pretty embarrassing for them to expose themselves by acting out this way towards her
15:03 But afterwards, the tides changed and people started hating Jennifer Lawrence for no reason, too. She became too successful, too perfect, and people online started saying that she was also fake a and rude and disrespectful. Same thing is happening recently with several young, beautiful actress… But, have you noticed that this inexplicable hate is directed mostly against women? Especially young, beautiful and successful women… I’m afraid people won’t forgive you if you stand out for any reason. America Ferrara’s monologue in Barbie explains this much better than I could.
You unlocked this memory for me! I remember this time and hatetrain and it truly felt like it did in fact come out of nowhere. Im glad that mess stayed in the past
A possible reason is that the media tells us we're "meant to love" certain celebrities (e.g. zendaya) or herald them as the perfect ideal to strive towards; when in reality few of us do and we can sense their career, looks and media hype is artificial. People "hating" can also be the reaction when they feel they are forced to like something without their choice.
Hmmm I could imagine that too. I'm just going to say anyone who cares so much about "the media" putting a popular entertainer in the spotlight is spending too much time thinking about "the media". We could all get real hobbies and friends, that could be a solution for this phenomenon.

Although I don't agree with her politically, she doesn't bother me. I also understand why some people don't care for her, but don't understand those who genuinely hate her.
Jealousy is the root of all haters. Another person being happy with themselves and their life makes insecure people so envious. They should spend time working on themselves.
So glad I was never a part of this weird af trend and no one I know jumped on either. It's also interesting to compared the hatred to Jennifer Lawrence because as far as I could see people did like her at first and then turned on her. I was seeing way more hate towards her then towards Anne at some point.
The people that got fired because of twitter shenanigans would disagree. It might not be a real place but it has real life consequences, maybe not to Chappelle because he has the privilege to not lose shit but that’s an outlier. In this videos itself, Donna mentionned how producers and directors preferred not to cast Anne at some point for fear of movies not doing great with her in them, that’s a real life consequence for online nonsense
This is how I find out my name is her middle name. I always thought it was weird she got hated. I met her quickly in 2010 & she was so nice. There's so many roles that of hers that I forget some because there's so many. How dare Anne be nice, act & do interviews!
I never felt this way about Anne Hathaway, but I find something off-putting about Anya Taylor Joy. There’s something sort of uncanny valley about how perfect she is. I don’t hate her, though. She just makes me a bit uncomfortable.
For ATJ it's the eyes. She just looks like AI made the most striking face, but then did some weird AI thing to it. She's got a stare that could slay a person.
I don't like people who are too skinny, enjoy some good food, you can afford it. It should be so easy to not be underweight, just eat all the delicious food, they're so lucky 🙄
I think you just solved my conundrum of why I've messed up irrationally during auditions. I subconsciously picked up on this aspect of human nature, and have tried to make myself smaller, even in places where one might think the expectation is to be bigger. I've noticed that my talents are more comfortable shining in certain environments over others. It's interesting, sometimes humans expect each other to be perfect, and some other times they find that perfection to be offensive.
Ok i wasn't aware there was hate directed towards Anne. As far as i know every comment I've read have been praise. As a kid who watched Princess Diaries back in the day, I thought she was the prettiest girl I've ever seen with the most beautiful face I've ever seen.
I thought it was just me, I could never put my finger on it either. I'm kinda blown away to learn it was a whole movement. I don't care one way or another about her now but I won't lie, she REALLY bugged me for some reason
Anne is a very talented, hard working, energetic, kind woman. I think she gets hate because people can’t believe anyone can be that happy all the time or that nice. I have never seen her be anything but gracious, appreciative, accessible and humble in her interviews. I absolutely adore her.❤️
I tried to like Anne Hathaway, I really did. However, what doesn't seat well with me has nothing to do with her appearing perfect in and out of camera. It is about her persona on interviews or whenever she interacts with people on camera. She always speaks in a condescending way, like patronizing whoever is speaking to her (in a respectful manner and trying to make her look relatable) which comes as inauthentic and performative. Nothing wrong with being good enough 24/7 (she definitely lacks Jennifer Lawrence early carrier acting chops) but there's certain quality to her speech, voice tone, gaze and body language that gives me entitled and stuck up.
Yeah she carries herself like an HR rep smiling while they fire you. Everything feels disingenuous from her but that still isn't an open invitation to treat her bad...
@@JaneWombman-fn6ck but they she forgot to put underwear on for the New York City premiere of Les Miserables. That's fine with me but it doesn't really go with her image.

I find it funny how people love to bring up Schadenfreude. I'd say the word is mostly used in a more innocent and fun context, not a sinister one, so its always funny to me when non-german speakers run with the definition and use it mostly in these mean and sinister scenarios xD
I genuinely thought I was the only one. I think she’s very pretty and should lean more into playing evil or maniacal characters, she isn’t annoying when she’s being evil bc that actually feels fun for her. When she’s pretending to be sincere it just makes me feel like my socks are wet Going so far as to make hating Anne a part of your personality is a bit much I think Tom Hanks is a good example of a perfect person we like.
I'm also one of those people that dislike Anne for no apparent reason, even all the way back to Princess Diaries years. I'm certainly not a "Hathahater," and I can acknowledge that she's an incredibly accomplished and skilled woman in addition to being so beautiful. I genuinely have no idea what about her has always irked me, and it might be, as you described it, feeling like she pretends to be sincere. I'm not sure. I do hope and wish nothing but success and good things for her, but yeah. A very odd feeling and difficult to put into words.
When u hate or dislike something in another person it's something your insecure about on the inside. And if even when u don't hate the person something about them still irks you the wrong way, whatever that is, is an unhealed part of yourself. I've had that feeling with Ariana Grande since I was little. I think it's because she wasn't actually as sweet as she pretended to be. & perhaps with Anna Hathaway it's because everyone is getting the vibe that she is not truly happy & cheerful as she is trying to appear. To me, I've always loved Anne Hathaway & she doesn't annoy me. And i see the subtle fakeness of her happiness as well but it doesn't irk or annoy me, It just makes me empathetic. She's just doing her best.
@@forestheart63 This is not universally true, I am not insecure about Tom Hanks nor do I identify with him, I have no unhealed Tom Hanks wound, please don’t project onto the entire world
A lot of the people criticizing her come across as so petty and annoying. Especially those TMZ commentators; most people in real life would not be able to stand being around them.
I feel like the characters she plays are often too similar in affect. I feel like I’m just watching her be herself on the screen half the time and it ruins the suspension of disbelief for me. Idk if it’s just that she’s always using the same tone of voice and mannerisms or that her face is very distinctive that creates this perception. Not really her fault in the latter case. I thought she was great in Les Mis though.
Damn I’m kinda glad you confirmed that she actually didn’t do anything. I remember being so confused why people hated her. I was like did she cheat on someone? Say something very shitty to a fan? And I just couldn’t find anything.
Wish you wouldn't say "everyone hated her" as someone who grew up in that time I never saw any of this hate directed at her - there's always gonna be people whinging but this was NOT the norm
Rachel Getting Married and Havoc (Which no one seems to reference btw!) are two of my favorite Anne Hathaway movies! She was amazing in both and CLEARLY showed her range!
The only reason I can think why anyone ever “hated” her might be that she seems like she tries too hard but not to be perfect almost the opposite she really seems to want people to believe she’s edgy but it’s okay to not be! I like her for who she is
I think it’s because she is the epitome of a publicist instructed, media trained personality. People don’t like it. It always feels a little too perky and safe. I have to give her the credit for pulling off that catwoman role. I know some people still hated her portrayal but I thought she was alright. It wasn’t Michelle Pfeiffer levels of fabulousness but still pretty good. She doesn’t feel like a real person sometimes but I don’t actively avoid a movie if she’s in it.
I genuinely don’t understand the hate, and it’s so crazy how the same thing happened to Jennifer Lawrence, and now it looks like the same thing is happening again to Taylor Swift.
Yes, Anne is a very goody two-shoes actress. I'd love to see her go all out on screen in daring roles that showcase a wide range of emotions. I'm fed up with her sweet, nice-girl-next-door act.
Have you not seen Rachel Getting Married? She does exactly what you're asking for, and that's not close to a new film. She's done a lot that shows off a darker range, it's just a matter of checking it out. She's not one of my favorite actresses but I do think she's a great actress, and I definitely don't get the hate, haha.
I think it’s because if someone is perceived as perfect, then it makes others feel less than or judged and compared. We think no one is perfect but to see someone who displays themselves in this way it just feels off, inauthentic and/or smug whatever. Some ppl just feel uncomfortable with it and turn to dislike the person.
I actually had a dream way back many years ago that Anne Hathaway absolutely hated me for no reason. Like deeply, intrinsically hated me in the most targeted way. It was such a random dream and I have no idea why 😄
If I was as beautiful as Anne Hathaway I don't think I'd ever be sad. Every time my feelings were hurt, or something bad happened, I would simply think "I am one of the most gorgeous womenin the world" and I would be content again.
Talented, extremely successful beautiful, smart women… you know where the hate stems from. Misogyny! This woman is even hated for putting disrespectful, unprofessional, bigoted reporters and interviewers in their place in the most eloquent way possible. But hey you can’t do it right either way. A woman not having misogynistic disrespect and unprofessionalism, no matter how you react to that inappropriate behavior, the public always has a reason to complain how it wasn’t appropriate enough. And this is when those ppl literally deserve some insults and negative consequences.
What is interesting is that I was a big fan of her as a kid, and only recently started to dislike her lol for the same reasons as the people in the 2010’s I guess lol She’s a great actress but she seems super fake in interviews… and I know that all actors have to put on “interview voice” but hers is like HR talking to you. I think it might be pressure/insecurity because people are so mean to her. I don’t wish harm on her or like HATE her. I just don’t enjoy watching her interviews. It doesn’t feel like I’m getting to know her. Which, maybe means I should get a life and stop watching celebrity interviews to get to know them lol
There are so many comments that seem to miss that it was a very specific point in time when she experienced particular “hate”. Here’s another example: in the early 2010s at the same time Brie Larson was starting to get a lot of roles and was well liked. Now obviously she’s very unliked. That’s the point, the public is fickle and for celebrities it can turn hard on them. ❤
Maybe it's because some people can see past the fake facade of certain celebrities. Watch her interview with Kjersti Flaa and how she treats people behind the scenes. She is another Blake Lively type.
I am a millennial woman .. I never disliked Anne Hathaway (I never absolutely adored her either, but have always loved Princess Diaries), but did always dislike Jennifer Lawrence from the start 🙄. I remember when it was a big thing to hate Anne but didn't understand what she did to merit that much vitriol.
Those people are crazy. Anne Hathaway is dope. They hate her because there isnt anything super "unique" about her. Yet shes super successful as an actress. Shes just a basic azz brunette.
1. She had a sleek, polished glam image after The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada 2. So when she played Fantine in Les Mis, it struck some as cosplaying the downtrodden while being a "tryhard" for an Oscar bid 3. She does at times exude a Rachel Berry / Lea Michele energy in interviews 4. She was a "too perfect" , super skinny, "regulation hottie" when people like Adele, Meghan Trainor, and Rebel Wilson were hitting their stride, being recognized for talent, as opposed to conforming to conventional Hollywood standards. Perhaps there was an unspoken (and undeserved) backlash from this shift. 5. At an awards show, she corrected the spelling of her name. "Ann with an E" This was giving drunken Reese Witherspoon "Do you know who I am?" but in a more bubbling under-the-surface, subtle way. It rubbed some people the wrong way, including me. Then the press and social media piled on. I didn't "hate" her and still watched movies with her in them, but didn't care for her off-screen life for a good number of years. Compare this to the John Travolta incident at the Oscars during which he introduced Idina Menzel as "Adele Nazeem" and how she handled it - she rolled with the punches. She went on stage and nailed her performance without missing a beat. She never brought up how she was slighted, unless journos asked her directly, and she answered graciously without talking trash about Travolta. In fact, the incident went viral and seemed to boost Idina's career profile. 6. Also, there were other actresses taking over Hollywood at the time, like Jennifer Lawrence who worked hard to push a more "relatable" persona to the public, doing things like falling up stairs while wearing a fancy gown.
Anne Hathaway has always been my favorite actress. I haven’t really known of any controversy surrounding her so I was baffled when I saw this video. I had no idea how much random hate she endured. It seems truly bizarre and out of no where.
Okay, I was one of those people who HATED Anne Hathaway. Yeeeeah, it was true. I still don't find her appealing. It was only about her being rude, arrogant, "theatrical" and FAKE, FAKE like hell. You see, when you look at another person and you feel their energy, their attitude. Anne Hathaway was just not who she pretended to be. That's all. People felt that and she got what she got. I never wrote a bad comment on her profile or sth, i'm not like that. I just clearly remembered that i somehow read her disgusting hypocritical nature, so I was actually surprised that i wasn't alone in that. When that hatred started I though "oh my... people understood that, too".

That shi- is always involved. Hating her for no reason - which a lot of ppl do if they can get angry for her just sitting around- i would say that’s misogyny. Not everyone not liking her is misogynistic. But let’s not act as if all these successful women’s hate doesn’t stem mostly from misogyny. And even if those women suck, there are always ppl that don’t even care about that but only see it as a way to finally hate them freely.

"She's inauthentic.

I'm convinced people just do not have lives and wanna hate on people sometimes for no apparent reason. Just pure boredom
Or to feel better about themselves
It’s sad, they could just better themselves instead of trying to drag someone else down

I genuinely feel that Meghan Markle inherited this, plus the racist right-wingers
Note to self 📝: don’t get too famous
britney spears is a perfect example of this. people love building up celebrities (especially female ones) just to tear them down later

@@Window4503 also possible said friend is lacking any accomplishments, since they never try hard. Or possibly never try at all.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's like the whole point...
she is one of the least problematic celebs. I understand why some celebs are hated - because they arent good people, too vulgar, too immature. but anne? she is great, professional and avoids drama.
Just a little reminder of how completely deranged the hatred was for the wonderful Anne back then
Pinning because not a lot of people seem to remember this.

They hate her cause they a'int her

Thank you for elevating the discourse because God knows it needs to
I remember being told in high school I was “just too nice” and they said someone can’t be that genuine all the time…I remember snarking back with “ok, I guess I’ll make fun of you more” - this was with a fellow student I considered a childhood friend from growing up with them through elementary and middle school.
How could you hate such a Queen omg
Actors deserve love
a beautiful and talented actress being hated for no other reason is the most first world country problem thing ever,
I don't think so. Bullies picking on someone for no reason is a story as old as time. Beautiful women have always been envied. Read any fairy tale.
My mother taught her back when she was in high school, only had wonderful things to say about her. Sad some people don’t agree.

Yikes projections abound. It's rather middle school minded. Most should mature out of that. She is a class act.
She doesn’t feel like a real person sometimes but I don’t actively avoid a movie if she’s in it.
i remember being SO shocked to find out that people hated anne hathaway. like why! what's not to love about her?
Lol that’s interesting
I didn't realize there was a hatred for her. I'd like to say I live on the internet but I clearly occupy a very small section of it.
WHO hates Anne Hathaway??? She’s so unproblematic
What is interesting is that I was a big fan of her as a kid, and only recently started to dislike her lol for the same reasons as the people in the 2010’s I guess lol
She’s a great actress but she seems super fake in interviews… and I know that all actors have to put on “interview voice” but hers is like HR talking to you.
This is my first time hearing about people hating her. (She looks like my Sunday school teacher from my childhood. Same personality too)
1. She had a sleek, polished glam image after The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada
2. So when she played Fantine in Les Mis, it struck some as cosplaying the downtrodden while being a "tryhard" for an Oscar bid
3. She does at times exude a Rachel Berry / Lea Michele energy in interviews
I never disliked Anne. She's always been the sparkle in my eye because she's mousy, yet beautiful and a talented actress.
When that hatred started I though "oh my... people understood that, too".
what did she do that was so "fake" to you?
@@V66912 maybe when she forgot to put underwear on for the New York City premiere of Les Miserables. That's fine with me but it doesn't really go with her image.
Anne is literally the most stunning woman on the planet. I don't idolize anyone, so i'm not saying that lightly at all. I'd be so happy to look anything like her
TLDR: She's hated 'cause misogyny.
not everything negative towards a female is misogyny
@@RED-my9hl I agree. However, in this case, it was blatant misogyny.
@@Twinkdoesdrag not really💀 it's pretty obvious why people would think she's annoying
@@RED-my9hl let’s start with not saying female we’re not animals 😂 and then a woman being talented, successful, beautiful- immediately gets her unreasonable amounts of hate and that always has to do with misogyny.
@cinnamonroll96 You are a female, and yes you are an animal what do you think you are 💀 sorry not sorry a little word upsets you but maybe try living in the real world
