    So is it a kayak or a bass boat? We don't care what you want to call, but we think it looks like a blast. Not many crafts to compare it to. It is a new emerging hybrid craft market. I suppose the new Jonny Boat Bass 100 could possibly be this biggest competitor. Pelican has wider distribution than Jonny Boat though and likely you could easier find a Catch PWR in a store near you than the Jonny Boat. The kayak shown is a prototype and subject to changes. Expected release is early 2020 from what I saw.
    However, regardless of what you choose, KayakDIY is hear to answer your questions and help you find the right craft for you. We don't care what brand you buy. You can find some of our favorite paddle crafts and recommended gear here in our Amazon store. Thanks for Watching! www.amazon.com/shop/KayakDIY

    Wow...really need to come out with a 120 or a 130 with that! I think the concept is great. So many people argue over whether or not it’s a kayak or not...does it matter? No! A small fishing craft is incredibly useful, regardless of its a small boat or kayak, and it gets people fishing! This was a great idea by Pelican...

    Amazing ! Compact , Short , etc ! So many "Kayaks" on the water are basically stripped down bass boats , 12-14 foot beasts loaded to the gills , #overkill thankfully though this rig fits the ( less is more) bill , to a T , that todays up & comers are so fond of . Better get those pre-orders in asap , or its gonna be a brutal wait , guaranteed !

      I suspect we will see a 12 ft offering or larger too. Several people mentioned that and Pelican said they would bring that to their R&D team. I think this length would be perfect for my river runs in Florida. We hunt for fossils (mammoth/megladon/etc) in the rivers. Plan to share some of those adventures in near future.

      @@KayakDIY I hear ya. I'm just thinking about the safety aspect. At just under 10' with the weight of gear, motor and battery to me that craft will become unstable in the slightest of wind. Maybe not. Glad to see more of these options available for consumers tho.

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jerrykrobby do remember it is 38" wide and many kayaks are only 34" wide or less. It also has a tunneled hull which ads stability. With battery in front and motor in back along with ability to adjust trim via seat tracks it should be pretty stable/balanced. Although time will tell. I might get out on one first week of July. Stay tuned.

    @cup_and_cone 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I am so torn. It's amazing and awesome because this needed to exist in the market for so long. I just expected a little bigger capacity/length for a 'motor ready' setup. 55aH batt+50lb thrust motor+average cooler of ice/drinks is already 100+lbs of gear...plus your fishing gear (or camping gear), safety gear, kayak essentials. Anchor, paddle, crates, tackle, transducer, bait bucket, etc, you're getting up there in weight. Might be motorized, but you'll still have to pack as if it were a typical pedal/paddle kayak. I think the big advantage is covering ground quickly with this setup. Can't wait to see what kind of speed people end up getting with various motor setups on this.

    I think its a great little boat but then see the price and have to wonder what am I missing here. Some pretty small wheels on the stern might get you down a boat ramp or paved trail but you will be supporting a lot of weight on the handle end and cant change out to sand wheels. A kayak cart would cost some money but you could center it and make it carry the load plus more tire options.
    A 360 seat is okay and some gear track but I think the bass raider is hundreds of dollars cheaper, wider, and can seat two. I dont know I just dont get it I guess. Less plastic than the raider but since you can paddle it that makes it more?

      I don’t think it would be great for surf launches. This boat does better I feel in small waves, lakes, inshore, slow rivers, and ponds. Solo Skiff is a better for surf launches and landing during offshore fishing. Solo skiff has self bailing deck and will be much safer. Skanu might even work for your needs. However, in my opinion Solo skiff is the best choice for surf launching fishing applications and offshore safety.

    1. Улучшить устойчивость;;
    2 поднять над водой пространство между поплавками, что позволило бы применить педальный привод, улучшило работу винта электродвигателя, снизило площадь смоченной поверхности и уменьшило сопротивление.

  • @MrInstag8tor
    @MrInstag8tor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I see a lot of potential problems with this yak. Rough terrain could cause damage where the wheels are. I've seen it with other types. It looks alittle stable but also alittle sketchy. You could stand on it for sure, but casting and setting hooks could be scary. The short length takes away stability also. Also the plastic these yaks are made of aren't very durable. Shallow creeks with big rocks will destroy this thing in no time. I know that from my own personal experience with pelican. I've recently purchased a nucanoe frontier 12 and will never purchase another brand from this point on. Has everything this pelican does and more. Better stability, more room, 650 lb weight capacity, tracks from front to back, option for tandem. And a pedal system you can remove easily if you want. Just a thought, if you're going you spend that kinda money on a yak, get something you'll be happy with for years to come.

    What available wheels ?

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They seemed to have changed the design after the show and don’t seem to offer it with wheels anymore. That kinda stinks because that was a selling feature I liked.

      I do to kind of. I love the hull design, size, integrated wheels, and 360 seat setup. Looks like a great all around adventure boat. This little craft looks like it would make it easy to get on the water and covering lots of ground. Biggest competition is Johnny Boat Bass 100 & Nucanoe. Although both those competitors don’t have integrated wheels and to me that just makes this thing so easy to use.

    Does anyone know how it does in shallow

      @KayakDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fine. It doesn’t draft much and you can set trolling motor draft to be shallow.

    The concept is great but the design and layout missed the mark. If can be paddled, wear are the paddle holders on the left and right? One for a paddle, the other for a push pole. Still doesn't look as stable as my Diablo that holds 600 lbs. Not enough room for my cooler either.

  • @TheClearchoice18
    @TheClearchoice18 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry my brother I don't really like it the concept is good but when you step back and look at it it looks like it's missing half of it I think it should have been longer maybe like a Hobie Pro Angler 14 ft minimum 12 foot I mean if you can add a little motor to it why not make it just a little bit longer it looks like a little tiny bathtub I can probably take my 6 month old baby a bath in there but again just Food For Thoughts my opinion I think it's a good idea of what they've done but they're cut short

    They require a boat registration when a motor is attached.....

    • @KayakDIY
      @KayakDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In many states and countries that is correct, but not all. Just depends where you live. Pelican is an international kayak brand. They have worldwide distribution. Some places only require registration for motorized crafts over certain hp or thrust. Customers will just need to look up their own local laws.

    Pelicans are cool if you're broke. but the plastic is as cheap as it geats almost. Its just milk carton plastic that is layered.

    No motor/foot petal, Bulky, 10 ft, poor transducer holder design?! I wouldn't pay $1299 for it. Nope, I'm sorry....

      @@KayakDIY Just too short. Make this say 11 ft or so and it would be more seaworthy and have better stability. Close but no cigar.

    Its def way over priced... It serves no additional function than the bass raider... Its just skinnier and has a seat that spins. There are way better options at the price point than this. Fishing and having to reach backwards instead of forward to control the boat is very inconvenient... Nothing about this craft makes sense to me

    • @keep1treal61
      @keep1treal61 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      GSTIX Bespoke Fishing it’s all preferences. This thing you can pick up move around and paddle. Some people say put pedal driver . Now that’s overpriced . So this has more advantages than the raider. So yes more function

  • @joshlowman687

    Not really sure why anyone would pay this much for a Pelican. Nothing new or exciting here other than being pre-wired. No rudder so you can’t foot steer the motor, it’s only 10’ long so it’s not going to handle chop well, and the catch series kayaks aren’t that stable. You can get a FeelFree Lure 11.5 for the same price, and there are many options for a foot steered motor, plus they are much more stable and their customer service is much better. Pelican has the worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with.

    It’s just too small, and that bow is a joke. Any decent wave, and you’re in the drink. Does that look safe to you??? Yeah, let’s make the bow 4 inches off the water, doh!!
