That was incredibly considerate of you to include International options for your links, not everyone thinks about the added costs of shipping. Keep up the great work! I Totally love your channel. We do not eat seafood because of moral choices, but many of your recipes are so amazing. Thank you and God Bless.
Souped Up Recipes I tried the recipe but the turnip cake is still soft inside (steam for 55mins). Does placing in the fridge help the cake to settle better for cutting?
I just moved to Beijing and I've been looking for authentic chinese recipes to make now that I have access to all the ingredients and I'm already loving your channel. Your instrutions are super clear and very easy to follow. Keep up the good work!
My woks are here! And they are beautiful, sturdy and I love the top too! One for my sister, one for my daughter and one for me! Thanks Mandy they are super high quality.
Hey Mandy! I made my first radish cake today, following your tips and using all the ingredients in the recipe! My family loved it, served with Hoisin Sauce. Thank you so much!!!
You provide the BEST tutorial ❤ for Loh Bok Go on TH-cam!!!!! I’ve been searching high and low…… Thank goodness I found your recipe 👏🏻👍🏼🫶🏼 Your recipe reminds me of my mom’s, she would fill it with all the goodies like yours. She brought it from Toishan over 60 years ago (RIP MOM) to Chicago. Unfortunately she never taught (I thought there was time) me how to make it 😞 Thank you for sharing 💝💞
Mandy's instructions are clear. I have tried a few recipes from youtube and this is the best tasting recipe so far..worth trying. It's easy to follow to make and if you make a big batch (as in Mandy's video) you can enjoy a month's worth of it!
That’s great. Thanks. I make it the same way too but I omit any wheat starch and use just rice flour. I just julienne and don’t dice to daikon. Lots of “liew”. I limit that because as you say it gets expensive. I sometimes also cut them in half inch cubes and coat them in tapioca powder and then deep fry. After deep frying I wok fry it with bean sprouts and XO sauce.
I absolutely love this channel!! It is certainly one of the very best for Chinese cuisine. I am about to play the 52 recipes for Dim Sum. I absolutely love Dim Sum but I do not live in an area where it is readily available to me. Thank you so much for these videos so that I can make it at home💕💕
I made this last sunday, following every step of it.. stir frying the ingredients and then put aside then add in somewhere at the last stage gives this very nice aroma of this dish .. I do love all your recipes. How I wish I can share with you a photo of what I did last sunday but dont know how to do it. I am a Filipina working in singapore who's been fascinated with chinese cuisine. I'm trying myself on making that traditional yam cake from your recipe as well. Thanks for sharing your skill with us.
I love this channel. This recipe took a ridiculous amount of cooking pots/woks and "set aside" bowls. The chopping was what I expected. The steaming setup was onerous. I don't eat "meat" so I only included the dried scallops and shrimp. There were so any pots, pans, dishes, etc to wash - this recipe is a TON of work. The taste was delicious. I still have to slice, wrap, and freeze the excess. Definitely make a large batch, as she suggests, as there is a lot of effort to put into this.
I tried this over the weekend and WOW... better than restaurant! I couldn't find dried shrimp and scallop so I had to substitute 50g of fresh each... I used your Souped Up Recipe's wok and good thing I did because this recipe makes a lot! We had dim sum this morning (steamed Sui Mai and Wontons - both your recipes) with this pan fried Turnip Cake and it was so delicious! Green tea, as you suggested, made the whole meal very authentic. Family was very happy! Thanks for all your amazing recipes, Mandy... you're a star!
I have never eaten dim sum. I will have to order the dried meats and starches online, but I'm looking forward to learning to make this recipe. Thank you for posting and I appreciate your thorough instructions in all of your recipes. Blessings on you and yours and all who read this!😀
I saved this clip and wrote down detailed instructions after seeing it on TH-cam. I finally collected all the ingredients and spent around 2 hours dicing, soaking, mixing, measuring, stir frying and steaming according to the instructions. Wow, so good!!! This recipe is a vast improvement over my other one, and will figure prominently during the Lunar celebrations from now on. I will also add this recipe to my favorite e-file for ease of reference. Thank you!!! I hope your cookbook comes out soon. Theresa
I made this today and tasted great. To prevent my allergic reaction to shrimp, i did not include its soaking water. Since there's only two of us in the house, i kept 2/3 of what I made in the freezer for when i want it. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
I love turnip cakes and I have never seen how they they are made until now. I'm going to try and make it this weekend. Thanks so much for the recipe! Looks amazing.
Radish cakes is my favorite. I have made this last year but since I broke my food processor I didn’t think I can make again but seeing your video I am going to follow your delicious recipe. It looks so delicious. Thank you for your posting
I love cooking with my wok that I purchased I seasoned it like your instructions it’s my best cooking appliance You’re recipes I CHANG OVER TO MY STYLE VEGAN and it always turns out amazing Thank you for all your recipes and easy way to teaching 🙏❤️🙏
Hey there Mandy, recently I've been watching many of your vids. So yesterday I've attempted this recipe....two thumps up!!! Your recipe is true to your measurements, no hidden ingredients! I like the texture and firm enough that it doesn't stick to the pan. It's an all day snack. Love your work, keep it up!!! ☺️
I like how accurate your recipes is, thanks a lot , i feel confident making it with all that details , i have tried to make it before with different recipe but it wasn't as good as i tried it in the restaurant.
Mandy, your turnip cake is so much tastier than any I have had at dim-sum! You are right, the texture is so much nicer with larger radish pieces. Of course all the good stuff sends it over the top! Thank you so much for sharing so many uncommon recipes with us. You are an amazing cook with the ability to provide newbies with the information required enjoy success.
🌺I just wanted to thank you for this delicious recipe & excellent way you executed each step answer any questions that may arise while preparing it ourselves. This took a lot of thought & preparation & is very much appreciated. I look forward to future content from your kitchen.🌸
I love this so much, I had to learn to make it when I moved to rural Maine. But your recipe is much yummier and more refined, so it’s time for an upgrade. Now, I just have to track down some some daikon-not easy up here!
After days of researching which Lo Bak Gao recipe to try, I decided on yours. Months ago, my mom 'taught' me the way her mom taught her. My problem is that #1, I didn't write it down, #2, She used no measurements. I can't work like that LOL! So..It came down to you and me yesterday. The only 'change' I made was that I didn't have the patience to julienne the the daikon, so I used the biggest grater I had and shredded the daikon into large shreds. Oh. And I bought too much daikon, so I had to double the recipe. That made me really nervous! When all was done, and I fried a batch (I ended up with 4 baking tins - enough to save for Chinese New Year), my mom declared it better than hers. I have to ask her to show me her way again. I'd like to see if I can incorporate any of her method/ingredients into your method in order to keep some of my traditional family essence in the recipe. Thanks very much. Sorry for this long review.
Well, hey there Mandy! I really enjoyed this recipe so much that I didn't seen and try this before. I must make and try it for sure, thanks for sharing! 😉
Those cakes look great and must be so delicious too and I have never had any before. I have eaten radish while in school and loved the ones my grandmother made for the family.
Hi. I like your presentation in that you insert relevant information as it pertains to cooking skills, textures, and what can go wrong if... This approach assists in enhancing our cooking or baking skills. Well done.
This is my absolute favorite to order whenever my family goes out to get dim sum. I'm thrilled that while it looks time intensive you've also made it look doable! No cast iron pan tho....we experiment like women! 💪🏼💪🏼
I knew you would have this recipe! I am stoked, this is one of my favorite dishes and I have 4 pounds of turnip I need to do something with. I love you by the way, you are as cute as a button. You know what would be a cool video? How to put on a mini-banquet at home. 5 or 6 dishes that one person could reasonably cook and serve at about the same time and get to eat with your guests. A couple of little cheats to help you through it, like buying the duck and having a good brand of frozen pancakes, what you could cook that would take the same amount of time as a poached chicken so 2 or three things could come out together. Dishes that might leave you with a stock for soup. The order to serve in, noodles last, fish third…that kind of thing. I’ve tried a New Years celebration that had 6 dishes…it was tricky and I spent more time cooking instead of drinking and eating with everyone….but I noticed that everyone wanted to watch me make the fried rice, chaffing dishes were very helpful and a hot plate at the table was also useful in keeping the “flow” going… I’m sure you get the idea. Oh, and what types of dishes should you serve, one chicken, one noodle and so on. I remember getting yelled at for serving jook/congee at New Years- kind of a bummer since it is one of my favorite things…I make it at least once a month on average. Thanks Mindy 😊
Love your dumplings recipes miss this one when I was working in Hon kong. Almost forgot to make it Now I will try to make it coz I really love dumplings. Thank you for sharing.
This is delicious. My eldest daughter's favorite dim sum dish. I will also try using tapioca starch instead of wheat starch to give it a bit more chewiness. Flavors are very authentic.
Hi Mandy how are you? Thanks for posting a lo bak go 蘿蔔糕 video I really appreciate it that's one of my favorite dim sum dishes. I hope you and your family had a Happy Thanksgiving! Take care and be safe!
This is one of my favorite dim sum foods! But next to rolled shrimp &pork steamed rice noodle thank you for sharing I plan on trying this this weekend for my friends & family thank you again! 💖💖💖
I don't know if I can get some of the ingredients for this recipe. I live in a rural area. It looks very tasty though. I really need to increase my ability to either create or have premixed various types of sauces. Black tea is also my favorite. I have very good news also today. Your wok has arrived! I'm very impressed with the kit. The wok itself is beautiful to look at and appears very strong. The lid actually fits very well and it's all topped off with a handy spatula. It came in attractive and well-secured packaging and is all a very professional presentation. Well done. I will likely take some time to season it tomorrow. I have a large collection of cast iron cookware which also requires seasoning and some simple care so there is nothing intimidating about the same care for this wok. It took me 65 years to finally get my own. I was never able to find one.
Thank you for the purchase. If you have any question during use, please let me know. If you can comment on the amazon and share your experience to help others, I will appreciate that. Have a good day.
Wow! That looks so delicious. I also love your intonation towards the end of almost every sentence - maybe it has Asian roots? - which is just so cute.
Traditionally Chinese don’t eat Radish cake with Hoisin sauce. Here is my version of dipping sauce, consist of light premium soya sauce, chilli oil or siracha, red vinegar, brown sugar to taste (optional). Hope this will help.
Hi Mandy, thank you for the insightful recipe. Just curious, could you use shredded potato instead of radish, or perhaps sweet potato, or even purple potato?
