best tiny detail about the episode: it technically proves that spongebob exists in the same universe as ned's declassified (and then by extension fairly oddparents, jimmy neutron, etc), since the abraham lincoln who patchy meets is the same one ned often talks to

NICKtendo I actually have a funny story about this special.
Back when it first premiered in 2009 I had recently upgraded to *HD-TV.*
So naturally, I wanted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of my favorite NickToon in high definition.
Theeee problem is,
Although I was watching the HD feed, I was receiving visual from the SD feed.
So I was watch truth or square in standard definition, in HD.
Yeah that happened.
On top of that, Nickelodeon Canada spent another *12 minutes* correcting this mistake.
(I’m a Canadian.)
Why do I hear the Avengers theme?
I feel if you connect the dots, basically every animated and live action Nickelodeon show is connected

The different animation styles were cool, especially the 1950’s and stop motion ones.

Actually, the “fake clip show” concept WAS the intention of the episode: the SpongeBob crew members who worked on it said that they meant for the episode to be a spoof of the overly-dramatic clip show installments of soap operas. They probably forgot who SpongeBob’s target audience was when they came up with the idea.

Honestly, Truth or Square (Or Stuck On The Freezer (Atrapados En El Congelador) as it's called in Latin America for some reason) may have a been a ridiculous clip-show type episode, but I can give credit for not using clips from previous episodes since clip-show episodes recived negative reception for using old footage because the writers coulden't come up with an original story.

Truth or Square = Stuck in the Freezer
The Great Patty Caper = Mystery with a Twistery
Dunces and Dragons = Lost in Time
That last one is fine either way, but so many others are just dumb.

@@andykishore same actually. The jokes weren't that bad, and the story was alright. Felt kinda rushed near the part when they get out of the vent though. But that's the worst part of the episode imo.
Personally, I feel that the special itself is pretty underwhelming. My big gripe with it is the absolute BS promos they made for it.

I live in South America and here it wasn’t promoted as a 10 year special. It was just as a simple episode that lasted more than usual and I thought it wasn’t so bad for a standard post movie Spongebob episode but now that I know it was the 10th anniversary I think it is a little bit disappointing. Ps: Love your channel

The live-action bits in this review were better than the ones in Truth or Square
My little gripe is that they didn’t use ACTUAL flashbacks of older episodes. That would’ve been a great way to celebrate.
Like the whole show could probably be better if it had some continuity and nodes to older episodes in general.

They could not, because the episodes that were made before were in SD. Plus you would have to pay the previous writers, storyboarders etc. for the usage of their work.

I've honestly never hated either of the hour long episodes. I admit, they aren't great or anything, but they are fairly enjoyable.
Watching this special as a kid from Poland was so confusing...since so many of the guests werent that popular.

I thought I was in the minority! I’ve grown to enjoy this special as I grew older.
The brief cuts to live action parts were very in-character with the topic being reviewed...I personally feel stuff like this to be better face reveals than having entire videos dedicated to it. (I find long-winding face reveals of narrators to be a bit too confrontational/uncomfortable, but it's probably just me)

I understand it objectively sort of sucks, but I love how goofy, funky, and incoherent the episode is.

When I use objective in a colloquial manner people understand what I’m saying, and generally it’s used rhetorically to add a bit of exaggeration to a sentence. Words are pragmatic. This special is wonderful! The zany nature and the absolute love of patchy and the animation styles cemented the opinion I had on it from the start! It is my all time favorite spongebob special just for nostalgia and craziness alone. I also have a very large bias for patchy and specials in general so that probably contributes too. Anyways, glad to see so many enjoy this like me, I really though I was alone on this, guess not. Also I always went into this with a mindset that I knew that this was weird, expecting my brain to forget about it. Also beautiful dreamer squidward is amazing

I can see how you could get some ironic enjoyment out of this special, especially since some of the cameos are really awkward. Like, reeeaaaalllyyy awkward. Even as a kid I thought the decision to have a bunch of random celebrities in an anniversary special was odd. It's so obvious that a lot of the live action scenes were done on a whim.
I don't enjoy this special, but I'm glad someone can! Great video! (Love the Spongebob onesie btw 😂)

I love squidward's rendition of beautiful dreamer because, it sounds relaxing, but I love the 20th anaversery rendition of the theme song. ( I can't spell, sorry for the misspelling)
I remember watching this when it premiered, thinking it would be an epic culmination of what I loved about SpongeBob. But even as a little kid, I felt disappointed and bored throughout. Nowadays, it’s thanks to videos like this that make me appreciate how experimental and one of a kind Truth or Square really was. While flawed and arguably one of SpongeBob’s worst in what was already a low point in the series, I hold some respect for trying something new, rather than play it safe.
It’s actually nice to hear a different opinion of this episode, as great as it is to be part of the Spongebob fanbase I gotta admit, one of the major downsides is that when it comes to discussing what’s good and bad it seems like the fanbase is just one big echo chamber, every single person seems to have the exact same opinion of certain things, Truth Or Square sucks because it was all lies, the show went downhill after the first movie, One Coarse Meal and Are You Happy Now? were terrible because they had suicide jokes, you never seem to hear anything different, so I like that there’s someone who actually doesn’t just think the same thing everyone else does for once
I had two of the Burger King toys and got the ds version and eventually got the wii version

I had an idea for the Patchy phone call segments for this special. Instead of him calling up random celebrates that most kids wouldn't exactly know, they could had the fact he was at Nick Studios and have him call up the stars or characters of other Nick shows. Patchy could have called Carly from ICarly, one of the boys from Big Time Rush, Timmy Turner from Fairly Odd Parents, Danny from Danny Phantom, Jenny from My Life As A Teenage Robot. These Patchy segments could have also served as a massive crossover event.

I remember the 10th anniversery of spongebob. I was 5-6. I was obsessed with spongebob back then.
Yeah. This episode is trash. Blowout was much better. The only good thing about this is the video game, but that Mermaid Man level was frustrating beyond belief, but at least the Wii version’s cheat codes worked. Also that puppet is the second thing in this show that scared me visually. The first was the end of Squid’s Visit. The third was the official Red Mist Squidward. And I guess that opening song was okay...
So I actually genuinely enjoyed this special too, much more than Birthday Blowout. Truth or Square is just funnier and I personally really liked the flashbacks. If you thought the live action scenes in this were bad, they're just plain stupid in Birthday Blowout. The only live action scene I liked was the Trusty Slab scene with all the voice actors. Birthday Blowout was also just dragged out way too long and was too repetitive. If they had focused more on the party at Spongebob's house and utilized all of the characters they brought back from older episodes more, it would've been a much more enjoyable episode.

Truth or square a bunch of stuff just kind of happens and if anything I feel as if it drags on more in that special with like the overdramatic pointless flashbacks they put in the episode
At least in birthday blowout it's it's interesting and had some funny gags, I liked seeing spongebob and Patrick riding around and seeing patchy's journey on getting to bikini bottom while everyone back home set up spongebob's party, and on top of that patchy finally gets to meet spongebob

I watched the shortest version of the special because I thought I barely remembered, given that I didn't have a strong opinion about it like everyone I saw on YT. Oddly enough I remember the Part 1 very well, and most of the Part 2 but still a bit fragmented. For some reason one of those bits I can't recall is the 'wedding' scene.
Been watching more Spongebob videos, nowadays.
I feel like watching the full version would change my opinion but looking at the segments you included I think my opinion would still be relatively neutral. Too bad I don't think I'll find it. But I remember some parts.
