After seeing her response video to TwoSetViolin (yes, me too) I had the privilege of attending a live performance by Lucie a few weeks ago and got to meet her after the concert. She is a genuinely nice person as well a a musical phenomenon. I’m a faithful Lucie supporter from now on!
This video is a must-see for all those children who say the recorder isn't a very worthwhile instrument to play. Like Michala Petri in the past, Lucie is showing what a real virtuoso can do with it!
So true... I've never seen the recorder in an orchestra before. I remembered learning recorder in school. I never took it seriously. I didn't think anyone did. SMH. Thanks Lucie for shattering that myth.
I remember seeing a photograph of Michala Petri in a recorder magazine a very long time ago and I have some of her recordings. Lucie is very much cast in the same mould and is exceptionally talented. It’s wonderful to see a young musician embrace the recorder and excel in playing it.
Ahh, it appears that Frans Brüggen has been reincarnated at last. Wonderful. Surely Lucie Horsch’s playing brings Bach’s music to life, more than any other recorder player alive. Her phrasing is simply divine. Many, many thanks.
Lucie Horsch is a recorder master, everything is right about her style. Her tempo is so steady (the whole orchestra is very steady), which makes this Bach Concerto very easy listening. As a kid I played often Frans Brüggen's small vinyl record with Vivaldi's recorder concert that never leaves my soul. I love the recorder and I love Lucie, no pun intended.
Lucie is much more than perfection, she's technic, she's phrasing, she's great sound with a very primitive instrument. Not even the ancient wood flutes or oboes were so difficult to make them sound gently or hard. She has learnt so much since was a little girl and now... just listen her in this Bach concerto... OMG she's incredible!! Thank you Lucie!!!!
the fact that you define the recorder as a primitive instrument... very primitive... shows how ignorant you are of music... the recorder is boring perhaps but not primitive.
What I love about this is Lucie’s phrasing, that brings the flow of sound into being as if it could be no other way. It gives the impression not only that the piece was written for recorder but also written for her as a performer!
I love everything about this. Sublime playing, beautiful Bach piece. A virtuoso recorder player and a great ensemble to play with. Lucie, I wish you a long and wonderful career. Please come play in Stockholm when it's safe to do so!
Thank you recorder gang for "fighting" back against twoset or I wouldn't have discovered the instrument that's making the sound I really love. Unlike some countries, we don't really have a music class let alone mandatory recorder classes on school.
Thank you Lucie for your dedication to the recorder and the many hours of hard work you have spent in relentless practice since childhood, to achieve the well deserved accolades you presently enjoy. As Gert van Hoef is to the organ, so are you to the recorder.
Lucie is a joy to hear and watch. Her mind and body is entirely in tune with Bach’s music and the sounds she creates from the humble recorder is incredible. Our spirits are energised by her musical talent and love of the instrument.
This fenomenal musical talent makes me proud of my netherland ancestry !!!!!!!!!!!!! Have spent these last days listening furiously to all the videos I can find of LUCIE and cannot get enough of them!!!!!!!!! Bravissima from Portugal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my absolute favourite harpsichord concerti by Bach! Brilliantly arranged for this version for solo recorder! Great job Lucie and the rest of the orchestra!
It's amazing how she memorised the piece of music and didn't have to sight read. Must have spent hundreds of hours of practice just to deliver this performance. Such dedication and hard work.
It’s not unusual (in fact it’s generally preferred) for soloists to memorize their pieces. She probably did spend hundreds of hour working this piece but the memorization would have been the easy part of that. By the way, “sight read” means to play at the same time as seeing the music for the first time, not the act of performing with music in front of you.
I remember a friend doing her oratory piece for her singing exam. Holding a score was compulsory but she knew the piece by heart, she just held the score. I heard of a bass who turned up to concerts with an empty folder for the same reason.
Lucie: I love your interpretation, every time I listen to you you give me a lot of peace, I admire you, a thousand kisses and hugs from Bogotá Colombia.

One of the best interpretations of this concerto here on TH-cam (regardless of what instrument is chosen for the solo). It has got a really nice flow, sounds very natural and has clear structure. Too often, typical Baroque ensembles are playing too fast or are 'interpreting' too much. For Bach, this is just perfect! :)
As a dillettant recorder player I can tell that this is not only extraordinary practising the pieces of music. No, it has to be practising for 100% body control to have the finger- and breathing technique available on the point, like she does it in the performance. This is divine.
