Yes, I agree. She plays in the Baroque style with a light touch and still with such honesty and strenght. The start of the phrase at 05:40 sent shivers up my spine! Bravo Vilde Frang!
There is such a radiance in this recording and joy that's so pure. It's always impressive for a violinist to create vibrance in Bach's concertos. I also love the fact that this performance is not flashy but, simply a beautiful and honest interpretation by Ms. Frang. Bravo to the Frankfurt Radio Symphony for continually performing at an amazing high level despite these difficult times.
This is exactly what I've been waiting for. All I see on youtube of this piece is mostly Hilary's recording. I ain't saying Hilary's one bad, but listening to different interpretations of a piece of music is always inspiring.
Beautifully played by both orchestra and soloist. Do not miss the A-minor by Vilde Frang with the same orchestra and great conductor. Just the look on the Harpsichord players face says it all: ”Yes, that is the way to go!” She really got the dance out in both concerts with brisk tempos, without rushing and still saying so much in every musical line. Bravo!
This interpretation is the most well-wrought up of all: such control over one’s bow, making it sound akin to a baroque bow only a mite agreeable to the modern listener’s ear - the volume control making it easy for the listener to appreciate the orchestra unlike other performances - even the unity of the orchestra members in itself! To form this type of perfection is really not an easy matter - I’m sure this is nearest to what Bach had had in mind when composing this masterpiece!
Philippe Herreweghe and hr-Sinfonieorchester is a great part of this, and together with Vilde Frang they make this to be an unforgetteble moment. So thank you!
We haven’t heard such well thought out Bach like this in a long time. How she uses rubato, the ornamentation, the intonation all impeccable. Putting this one on repeat 🔁!
Echt tiefempfunden!
Yes.One of the best as a violinist and I have been following her for a decade. How lovely she looks with her hair cut short. She is a star by any measure. First saw her years ago playing in a chamber piece with Janice Jansen. A perfect pair. Well done, Vilde.
I absolutely love this interpretation, her sound is really fitting for bach. I also love how she opts for a more senza vib approach which enhances the purity of the sound and her swells like it was as if to imitate the baroque bow sound
Absolutely beautiful!!! She low key reminds me of ida Haendel Also the blending of the orchestra, considering the placement of the sections, is AMAZINNGG!!!
It’s so difficult to achieve the delicateness that the baroque violin compositions of Bach require, especially with a modern violin, bow, and strings, yet she executed it so well.
@@uswhitecloud2789 As per Wikipedia, Vilde is a shortened form of "Alvilde", which comes from the old norse "Alfhildr", with "alf" meaning elf and "hildr" meaning fight or struggle. Also, the e in "Vilde" is pronounced, so it doesn't really sound like "wild".
Gracias, Danke viel!
I love this concerto and Bach generally. I did not know that Vilde Frang also sometimes plays on a historical (or after-historical-made) instrument. Well played! Thank you very much!
I like Vildes interpretations of BWV 1041 and 1042, with its relatively high speed. Because if you play this Bach too slow, it sounds as if you are stuck in a ditch, more or less. Even it is heavenly music.
During the Cöthen period, from 1717 to 1723, Bach had to satisfy the requirements of his boss, Prince Leopold, by turning out large numbers of secular works. The composer was well prepared by spending countless hours at his writing table copying out the music of the Italian masters. With his genius working, he was able to put to marvelous practical use this hard-gained knowledge of Italian string writing, which was so far in advance of any other kind. The Cöthen works are striking evidence of Bach’s ability to assimilate and create. The E-major Violin Concerto is a creation of purest Bachian splendor. Opening with three aggressive chords, built on an E-major triad, that form the beginning of the main subject, the first movement unfolds in a fashion characteristic of the composer, but with some surprises. Two serious episodes in minor provide sharp contrast with the ebullience of the main material. And before the return to the main subject, the violin has a tiny solo followed by an unexpected pause before those three opening chords announce the final full exposition of the movement’s main substance. The slow movement in a minor key is poignantly poetic and deliciously controlled, creating an inimitable version of Bach's baroque romanticism. *Lucien*
Wow, I would’ve thought this is a Baroque orchestra playing with Baroque instruments if I didn’t look at the screen. Beautifully done. I like her new hair style as well!
Spectacular playing, and impressive articulation. For me, there's a certain carefree joy to this piece that is diminished at this breakneck speed. So far, my favorite is Oscar Shumsky's recording.
HR, please get Frang-Herreweghe with hr-SO to play all of Bach violin concertos! J. S. appeared in my dream and told me that he is extremely pleased and he wishes to hear the rest.
What a marvellous version! The Adagio: The violin is so perfect that it seems to be a wind instrument. That melodic line!!! Perfection. Thank you so much!!! P.S: Vilde Frang the violinist who can play beyond imagination.
If you compare this with Hilary Hahns recordings, it has a faster rythm and a much more defined focus on the issue. And yes, this is my personal opinion, so dont attack me for beeing personal. I am just saying that I think Vilde Frang is better than Hilary Hahn in this BWV 1042.
She has fun playing this thing but even more fun when she improvises. I find the performance a trifle over dramatic and the fast tempos too brisk but Frang is Frang, an impressive artist. Bravo!!
Learning this for my Diploma Abrsm and I’m really learning a lot from her.Articulation bow control.Love her performance ❤.Hope to meet her for a lesson one day ❤️🙏 Buskaid
Vilde Frang amazing. 💐But, this violin concerto belongs to Vivaldi. Allegro-Largo-Allegro. Arranged by Bach. Hereafter must be called/named, BWV 1042 mi Major violin concerto, after Vivaldi.. ❤
I think Bach in his heaven ought to be glad about all our enthusiasm about his work. But I doubt it. He is probably sitting and composing a new oratorium or consert or cantata, and don´t want to be disturbed. But if we send him this Vilde Frang violinconsert he probably will remember it. "Yes, I wrote this long ago, it didn´t turn out so bad". Not so bad at all, we will reply. And probably Bach will like Vilde Frangs playing. If he was not so occupied with this new cantata that shall be played next sunday.
Video is an excellent lesson for musicians. Soloist and orchestra are in tune and in sync. Conductor has no real role. He’s embarrassing himself. He may have contributed ideas to the performance in rehearsal but on video it appears he’s dancing despite what the musicians are doing. As a HIP leader he full well knows this music was not conducted.
I admire Vilde Frangs violin playing so much. There is a lightness in it with also a perfect handling of sonority, rythm and strenght.
Absolutely! Her playing is wonderful - and a sense of urgency comes through as well.
The way she just digs in to the phrase starting at 1:23 sounds so energetic and new.

It’s this work that made me like Vilde Frang’s way of playing. Superb interpretation.

Agreed
Es macht grosse Freude Frau Frang zuzusehen, zuzuhören. Supergeigerin.
This is exactly what I've been waiting for. All I see on youtube of this piece is mostly Hilary's recording. I ain't saying Hilary's one bad, but listening to different interpretations of a piece of music is always inspiring.
Certainly great to get some variety on the platform!
I think it also depends on the direction of the orchestra. To me, it plays a little too much on dynamics. I prefer Hilary's one (bad just no 🙂)
There is another recent recording for all to enjoy. th-cam.com/video/RWRnd5IRFv8/w-d-xo.html
The flow is there, and yes, I think we all can feel it. We all go with this flow.

She plays like if she were praying or something. Technically pure, crystalline and very spiritual.
