I used to have one set of sheets only, but decided to have two after my son threw up on the sheets (in the middle of the night) when he was sick and I didn't have an extra set to change. It's always a good idea to have a backup for unforeseen circumstances. Minimalism is not about having as few items as possible. It's about having material things that adds value to your life.
Exactly! U said it! It’s all very personal and no one especially me would ever tell someone else they “have to” or “need” anything 💕 we have to make those decisions for ourselves but the more differing opinions we hear the more we can make informed decisions. Thanks for sharing your opinion 💕💕
❤ I finally figured how many towels etc each in our family need. It’s not the same for each, one needs more face towels, one needs more wash clothes. I gave the excess to a local Free Store.
Yeeeep - I recently had a nosebleed while in bed and we were really glad we could change the sheets 😅 Also, we currently don't have a dryer, and especially in winter it is difficult to get everything washed and dried within a single day to put it back on. So 2 sets it is.
I live in a damp climate, with cheap-rate electricity at night, so we wash at night only and dry on racks. We can't afford a tumble dryer - this is common in Europe, we don't use them much because the cost of our electricity is so high. So, it's two sets of everything - one to wash and one to wear. Also, girls, when you go through menopause, you'll realise the benefit of more than one sheet. 😆
Having only one set of sheets will make your life very complicated if someone gets sick and your washer is broken. Especially if you are the one who is sick. I generally have one backup for each essential item. And have a system to never run out of toilet paper. Systems make life run smoothly.
I’m glad that works for you. As someone who’s not new to having one sheet for my bed I can say it works for me. But as I was very clear in the video it’s just a concept of a bigger idea
I agree with you on having more than one set of bedsheets, especially if you have kids 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮. I have definitely had to change bedding in the middle of the night because my daughter vomited everywhere. After cleaning up the mess and cleaning her i really don't want to wash the bedding and wait for it to dry. I also didn't have a drier until 5 years ago when we moved to a climate that is wetter and colder and I don't have a dedicated dryer, it's a combo, i seldom use it.
Multiple sheet sets are an absolute godsend! I had two sets for guests and a few older ones just for me. I never let my sheets get to the point that they tear. I simply save them. Single people need to have backups. They helped me during 1 1/2 years of Long Covid. They helped me to recover from a broken ankle without the aid of expensive home health care. Old sheets are useful during heat waves (over the windows). I use them to try out furniture placement ideas by folding them to the size of the footprint of my furniture. You can also use them as frost protection this time of year.
I like the 3 set sheet system which I learned from reading baby care books while pregnant with my first child: one set on the bed, one set in the linen closet, and one set in the wash. While it’s obviously simpler to have one set of bedding, it was a blessing to have a clean set ready to use in the closet when illness or unexpected inconvenience strikes, especially in the middle of the night. I also do the one in-one out closet system and build my wardrobe around black separates (but I still have way more than I need.) Having just what is needed is my ultimate goal.
I agree with this. I have a dust mite allergy and relaxed my minimalism after I got sick with the flu for two weeks just before COVID-19 hit and only had one spare set. I had to change my own sheets with a 103-degree fever and going to the laundromat to wash them was out of the question - I probably would have passed out. Now my rule is to have enough sheets and loungewear to cover a several-week illness. The laundromat dependence is a huge factor in this for me.
This is me! One fitted sheet & 2 duvet covers! I have the same jeans I bought in 2013 . I buy the exact same products once I find what I like. Extras like multiple sheet sets usually resulted in piling up the laundry. I'm disabled & pretty sick most of the time . I have very little energy left for my own life forces., and I can't afford to spend it frivolously on 'things'. ❤ love your content
Absolutely ! I have one outfit that i wear to every shower , wedding , funeral graduation ! Jewelry , shoes and bag goes with . So no stress no worry and totally comfortable . Gives me the freedom to enjoy the people im with or lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on . Highly recommend.
I did the one year one dress thing that Elizabeth Withey described and wore the same dress every day for a year in 2023. I started getting bored around October. 😅 I made a charcoal gray stretch twill sheath dress that I lined with Bemberg for more breathability. But the biggest takeaway was how it made me realize I don't need many garments. I wore it all the time every day except to do Pilates and going on runs. We went to Tahoe a couple times and I also took jeans so I wasn't hiking in it either. I'd do it again with a different dress maybe for 6 months max. The boredom is real. I had to launder it daily or q.o.d. depending on how active i was. But you just get sick of it after a while. 😅 I donated the dress in January.
I decided a few years ago that I only needed a bottom sheet. No more top sheet getting tangled up at night. Less was easier for me. A soft duvet or blanket is all I need on top.
@@lauras4472 I agree, I've ditched the top sheet too, but because I hate laundering duvet covers we've gone to comforters or coverlets only on all our beds, they fit in our washing machine and dry quickly in our hot climate (and all but our king one will also fit in the dryer in a pinch). So much easier than having to wash a duvet cover and no annoying top sheet!
Exactly! In Slovakia you need warm sheets for winter, thin for summer. No dryer, so we need more than one. And it’s good. I like to have variety, possibilities.
I love bedding! My bedroom is my sanctuary as im chronically ill, i like cool cotton in summer and cosy flannel in winter. But i try not to have too much inventory.
I’m so sorry to hear that 💕 I am having to replace my sheets and now most of my bedding! It seems like it is all falling apart at the same time 🫣🤪I guess I bought it all when we moved and now it has all reached its last leg haha Hope you have a peaceful and fun weekend!
I have a lot of areas in my life that is minimal. Bed linen is NOT one of them… I live in a small apartment building with 1 washer & drier and 12 units. The thing is either constantly being used or is broken 🤣 so I always need to have 2 clean sets and 1 on the bed. Then I know I’m covered for a few weeks. I use them all on rotation. I get through them all in a month or just slightly over. Cannot wait for the day I have my own washer/dryer again!
I struggle with overconsumption in my clothes especially and today i came into a conclusion that i will be ok with what i have so i can focus my energy on other things in my life and its crazy that this is the video that my algorithm sent me-what a funny coincidence. Loved the message of this and it really validates my feelings so thank you! ❤
We only have one set of sheets too. I wash them and put them right back on our bed. We discovered the bamboo resort sheets from Cariloha about 5 years ago and will never buy another brand again. They are sooooo comfy! They’re pricey… about $300-$350 for a set, but they sometimes have sales where you can get them for 40 percent off and if I remember correctly they’re usually 50 percent off for Black Friday. Anyway, they are super high quality and still in perfect condition after 5 years. Somehow they keep getting softer and softer and they do not pill at all. Can you tell we love them😂 Thanks for another motivating video, Becky❤️❤️❤️
without a dryer the one-sheet system does not work but I too like the limit-system with categories limited to certain bins or drawers, or the just-one rule in the bathroom
I hang dry (don't have a dryer...by choice...) and we literally only use one set of sheets. It works fine, even in winter. HOWEVER, this means our bed sits for a couple hours or all day, depending on weather, unmade. I can definitely see why this would not be everyone's cup of tea. We are most definitely NOT minimalist, just trying to be frugal. Ideally, I'd have at least 4 sets of sheets to rotate through because I like variety. Oh well.
@@katie7748This works for me too, no dryer but only one pair of sheets, i hang it out on the attic and in the evening it’s dry enough. Do it for years now also for my duvet cover.
i dont have a dryer and we have wet/cold winters and fall. one sheet (100% cotton, king size) works for me as I wash it in the morning and hang on the clothes dryer rack. i don't heat the house much either but it dries by the night
I keep one extra set for each mattress size in our house... just in case of sickness/accidents... or if it rains before my laundry dries 😝 But really, the container concept does help especially with scarcity mindset. I have found this to be so true and helpful for me... as we continue to move/downsize/declutter this is a great help for me!
I find it incredible that your fitted sheet lasted that long. None of my sheets make it past two years. Of course I reuse the fabric for other things - curtains, cleaning rags, even stuffing for a decorative pillow.
I found I have to have two sets of sheets purely because I’m a morning person who hates changing her bedding. If I wash and dry the dirty set, by the time I get around to putting them back on the bed, it is afternoon/evening so it won’t happen because I’m tired, and we end up sleeping on the mattress cover. No, I have to strip off the dirty bedding and put the clean set on straight away, the moment I get out of bed, and then the job’s completed.
Love this video and principle. We have one sheet per bed and then one extra for each bed size (instead of one extra for each bed). Realistically we only need the one sheet for our bed. We don't use top sheets and only use comforters or coverlets that fit in our washing machine to avoid those pesky duvet covers. I am definitely starting to feel a mindset shift in my minimalism journey thanks to thought provoking content like yours. When out shopping - always with a specific idea or list of what I need - I see all the cute Christmas decorations and new skincare and I now see things to find a home for, store and clean, instead of items to improve my life as marketing would try to have me believe. Getting out of the evolutionary programmed scarcity mindset really helps to outsmart those marketers (at least sometimes haha).
This was such a very thought provoking video. We are going through an electrical upgrade at our house, which means that we have had to clear every single room. Thankfully we had decluttered a lot before the project started, but after moving things out of each room we realized that we valued that open space feeling, and are being a lot more intentional in returning items to those spaces.
I've also experienced the foot through the hole in the sheet. :-) And yes, if we realize that we aren't going to be the center of attention whether at a funeral or a wedding, etc., then we can relax and just be the best version of ourselves.
I stopped using top sheets twenty years ago. Making the beds is so much simpler without them. We use a down comforter with a linen cover which I wash maybe once a month. I wash the bottom sheet every other week because it gets dirty faster and yes… I only have one. My daughter’s cat just tore holes in it so I’m going to patch them up and keep using it! P.S. In the summer, I take the duvet out and use only the cover!
Loved your video but kept zeroing in on your wall shelves. Do you remember where you got them? I do love the ‘hushing’ idea. It’s really helping me through my new phase of retirement and simplifying.
Settling into minimalism has allowed me to finally figure out what I like and only buy those things as I need them. I have curly hair and like all other curly girls you spend forever trying to find the “holy grail” finally realizing that there are no miracle products, no clothing items, accessories etc that are going to finally make me complete has been a game changer. I am so basic and simple now and it’s been such a breath of fresh air.
I used to love having different sets of sheets to match my mood... Solid colors, stripes, checks, etc. Now I have only two and I find there's something very satisfying about living simply.
I used to have one set of bedding per bed. However I didn’t always feel like putting the bedding back on when it was ready. I bought a 2nd set so I could take one set off & replace straight away while I had the oomph to do it.
I had one set of sheets until a family member was sick with the flu and thought with 2 sets I could of changed the sheets right away instead of waiting to wash and dry.
I would hate having only one set of sheets. I love my crisp and cool pima cotton sheets in summer and my warm and cosy cotton flannel sheets in winter. Bedding is one area that I am extremely fussy about. I agree completely with the less is more approach of makeup and skincare. I have decluttered a lot and am working through what is left with the intention of dramatically streamlining what I replace it with.
My Dad is the same way about his sheets! 😃 he loves flannel in the winter but I would have a hot flash if I slept in flannel haha thanks so much for sharing your point of view!! Love it 💕💕
Same. IMO it matters what climate you live in. I live in a 4 season climate and, out of choice, don't heat my bedroom. Flannels are a must. As are cotton blankets for spring and fall and a nice duvet for winter.
LL Bean has 100% cotton percale sheets. They are crisp and cool and I love them. I can’t stand synthetic fiber sheets as I always feel too hot when sleeping with them.
I love this, although mostly I use a rule of 2, so that if we don't get to the wash, we always have a fresh one ready. My husband and I have both have 2 pillowcases and 2 bath towels as well. Plus, he'll use a travel bottle for his energy drink in the morning and his lunch so he has 2 bottles and 2 Tupperware containers that he rotates, and when we feed our cats their wet food in the morning, they both each have 2 bowls, on the off chance we didn't wash them from the day before. It just really works for us this way, and keeps us from having to keep too many things on hand, but at the same time, we always have what we need 🤗
I have 2 sets of sheets for each bed. But I do like you and just wash, dry and put back on the bed each week. That second set is for when my cats have accidents on the bed, which has happened to me in the middle of the night. The ones I have are 100% cotton Wholistic from Costco a few years ago and I love them. They have a subtle print, no solids available. I've not seen them offered since I bought them. I'd be very tempted to buy a 3rd set just to hopefully get the same quality of material and fit. As someone below mentioned, quality of clothes and household linens has most definitely been worsening for years.
I found the only set of white 💯 cotton sheets in the store! Which was crazy to me! Everything else was microfiber which I don’t really like and find uncomfortable to sleep on personally. Thanks for sharing 💕💕
I have this problem too. I now have things in almost every area that I am completely satisfied with. But due to wear and tear (or planned obsolescence) it will be necessary to replace them at some point. Unfortunately, these exact things will no longer be available for purchase or will only be available in poorer quality. That's why I tend to stock up.
There was a period of my life I only had one set of sheets and it worked great for me and I loved it. Now I have a toddler and a young baby. I currently have 4 sets total because of my wedding and one set in case my water broke and destroyed a set. As a mom with constant baby spit up… and sicknesses passing through the house on occasion, 3 sets is a good number. I’m sure as my kids get older one or two will be ideal again.
This was such a grounding video for me Becky. I feel like I’m 80% through my minimising journey, which has been such a long haul these past couple of years. But this video has given me the gentle nudge I need to revisit some categories of items that I thought I’d finished minimising - but now realise I’d be happier with if I minimised them that bit more! Thank you so much 🙏❤️
I dont agree with having only one set of sheets. I can't wash and dry in one day and like some variety. However, I do have items, namely pieces of tupperware and a bread knife, that are around 50 years old and still in everyday use.
Thanks so much for this video- I love reading everyone’s experience with what works for them and you’re right about having a container, that is then the limit and it creates an abundance mindset rather than a scarcity one so you can relax 😊 We have a set of good quality cotton linen for our bed and one thicker flannel cotton for the winter which I often don’t like so we have adopted the Swedish bed method- having two duvets which is currently working for us- no more cover thieving 😂 Our children (4 boys under 7) have one set of bed linen each and I have a few spare incase of accidents/ illness. I felt so validated when you talked about shoes- we have a joke about how much I love shoes/ also can’t find the right ones 😂 and I feel better when I have ones for different purposes. It’s whatever works for you at the time of life you’re in right now 💖
This is exactly the motivation and help I need right now! I can't wait for the video, so that I can work on new systems 🙏🥰 ... I especially struggle with too much clothes. They all fit me, but I always have to move stuff, to get to a specific item 🙈 In general, people's expectations about me wanting to buy new things, is a struggle as well, because I'm really trying to "have enough" 😅 I practically had nothing on my wishlist for my birthday, other than money and experiences/adventures. It doesn't sit well with people 😆
You post very helpful videos and I am grateful. I always think about the suggestions you make and they seem very sensitive to the ADHD community. I am not ADHD but my sister is and you have helped both of us tremendously. Just wanted you to know that you are appreciated.
Thank you so much!!! I was only diagnosed a few months ago but it has been a struggle all my life! Minimalism saved me from my own craziness before I even know what was different about my brain 👏💕💕 thanks so much for sharing!
It's a reasonable concept. That's the joy of organizing and minimalism, you can play around with what works for you. I have two sht sets, one is washed and ready the other goes in the wash.
"The idea of having enough" ❤ Love it 🙏 I love your new shelf display was my first thought watching this video 😁 When I hushed my bookshelf inspired by your video about decor (three items or less), it led me to a significant personal insight (what I want in life), so thank you for being part of it 😊❤ Also, at the risk of being inappropriate, I find you very beautiful 😊 (And I know it is also thanks to minimalism/intentionality/knowing yourself. Your light is just shining through! 🙂) And the footage of your family in Italy - also very beautiful, you were all shining ❤. Heartfelt greetings! 🙋😇
♥ I'm a minimalist in most areas but bedding isn't one of them. On the upside, I've decluttered over half of what I had and I won't be buying more unless something gets ruined.
1 set of sheets, 1 set of towels - hang them all up aftere washing. Clothes too - just hang them up, next to the washing machine. Use wool og linnen for tops. A couple of jeans. I live in Norway, so 1 pari of shoes for every ocation, and the same for coats/jackets. Working on getting multi-use coats :D Not an easy task :)
@@minimalease 🙂 it’s literally what it sounds like, you cut the sheet in half down the middle and sew the 2 sides together so the worn fabric ends up at the sides and there’s a seam down the middle 😀 Hem the sides, I guess. Never done it myself but Mum (now 94) and her mum always did
I needed a couple of fresh cardigans for the seasonal change. I thought about purchasing a very nice cashmere sweater I would have forever. I changed my mind. I bought a cotton sweater then returned it and found two for 2/3 rds the cost. I take really good care of any price point of clothing and realized I wasn’t going to wear them constantly so they would last with care. I felt really good about this decision. I am at the end of really honing down my wardrobe and I need to replace less and as time has gone by. I know exactly what I like and when I do replace something it’s usually easy. Like a refresh on a denim shirt, or white shirt, or basic jean. It all takes time and it’s a nice feeling being content with what you have. 😊😊😊😊😊
I also have only one set of bedding for each bed, they are all plain white or neutral as I then add my own quilts, and I have loads , 14 and still making a few every year. The quilts provide the colour and the cosy feeling
I did one set of sheets for over a year, it was occasionally annoying but worked. I did buy a new set for a guest whose house sitting my pups overnight and got a new set for her. I’ll keep them as my current set it’s not dead yet. But I probably won’t buy a new one when it’s time to let the old set go through wear and tear. I am lucky I have a dryer and I can dry them outside in summer in about an hour. I understand it’s not for everyone though.
I have one set for each bed but the reason is because my husband built our house when he was a bachelor. No linen closets, no hallway or coat closets, no basement even !! I now like that I have to pare back. We already use under bed storage for out of season clothes. Great video
I have two queen beds. One sheet for quest bed and two for mine so one on and one in the wash. All can be interchanged if necessary. Have extra pillow cases to match mine so always seems a bit fresher.
I love your videos, thank you for making them❤ I love that you encourage frugality and I love how you've cultivated your home, it is beautiful and peaceful❤ I have more work to do on my minimalism journey. My downfall is home decor and I am weaning off of that desire. It was mainly because of what other people were doing online. The spending on that was not good for my household and I end up donating decor all the time because I get sick of it. I appreciate you and your guidance towards loving simply❤
Aww thank you! I always say the first step is knowing and recognizing what your problem is 💕 I had the same problem with decor for many years and it was really hard to overcome! I think it really helped me when I got off all social media for 6 months
Really resonate with this concept. I have been guilty of having way too many sheets/pillowcases/bedding in general. In the last few years, I have greatly reduced the number of extras and do what you do..wash and put straight back on the bed. I also recently realized something, we had a houseguest for 2 weeks and I took a small amount of clothing out of our son's room as that's where the guests were staying. I had 2 pairs of PJs, 3 pairs of pants, 2 short sleeve shirt, 2 long sleeve shirts and two sweatshirts plus a few pairs of underwear and some socks. These clothes lasted the full 2 weeks of school, just laundered them and used again. It's remarkable how simply you can live when you need to. I think the key is to do it all the time. so freeing.
Hi! Love your videos, I was a little distracted because your tone sounds very similar to Joshua becker and it threw me off a bit. I don’t remember you sounding like this in previous vids 😅 it did seem to taper off and be back to normal 5 mins in 😂
I have a serious question, How does one find a set of sheets that actually fits the mattress. Without being baggy? Sheets seem to be oversized because of the different size mattresses. I understand where you are coming from about having 1 set. But by the time I’m ready for a new one, things change and can’t find the same anymore. Sandy
@@minimalease You're right though. And the more I think about it, the more areas I can identify that I keep simple according to your rule. Maybe I can find some more areas to simplify.
When a sheet tears, I use the good parts to make pillow cases. Usually it’s the bottom sheet that wears out, at which point I make it into the bottom sheet and buy just a new top sheet.
I love the idea of minimalism.... But I have 3 kids 6 and under and we had a severe stomach bug already twice this year... Not even with a functioning dryer we could manage with two sheets per bed... Let alone one... Maybe some day... But not now.
Really good idea. Looks like I have some systems but could definitely implement more. I just didn’t realize that until your video. One system that definitely work for me is that I like to keep my clothes number under 30. Seems to be a sweet number for me to be able to manage and care for them. In addition, there’s a small number of loungewear, sleepwear, outwear items, but there’s no problem there and I do not worry about counting that. Also I’m in Southern California seasonal closing is not a thing.
For a long period of time I have had one fitted sheet, don't see the purpose of a top sheet. Will get another fitted sheet as back up. I don't wear makeup or nail polish. I make my own body butter. I have one set of curtains in each room. I don't decorate for the holidays have no need for that. I have donated alot of things I don't need or use or purchase because i thought I liked it. I also refashion my clothing for a new look. I resonate with everything you said.
The purpose of a top sheet is to have a light cover for those of us who don’t want a duvet over us. It is also easier to wash a top sheet, then a comforter, or removing the duvet cover all the time. Some of us wash sheets once a week. I tend to get hot when I sleep so a top sheet makes perfect sense. I don’t mind minimalist mini minimalist act like there’s so much better because they have fewer items. Someone made the comment minimalism is not about fewer things, but it is about having what you need. I’m glad that works for you, but for me not decorating for the holidays or having some special items. Sounds like a very bland life. One way is not better than the other
So funny😅I’ve only had one set of bed sheets & cobertor too like for the last 12-13 years but r maybe more🤪I use it, wash it & put it back on too & same thing happened but to my cobertor from the bottom layer🤪& I think It’s finally giving up, I already fixed it twice because 1: I still love it, 2: I don’t want to spend money on buying another one🤪 I’ve been more into minimalism lately+trying to save money to get my own tiny & cozy place
I trick my brain with the question If money and space wasn't the issue, how many sheets or plates would I have? what items would i have? Would i replace or add something? And if I answer to myself with all honesty, most of the time I'm content with what I already have and i don't want to add more or replace things in the particular category. This feeling of enough is so freeing!
Im 90% decluttered, even just decluttered some more toddler toys and our polyester blankets. My issue is the wanting the items i want too much to not be content with what i have though i know were furtanate to have it all. Like i want a smaller sectional ours i huge for small livingrooms or i want a new bed blanket and mattress since we got a new bedframe. However we move in a year so i keep reminding myself to wait and sell the stuff when we go and get things ill like more next time and to be patient and happy and stop comparing but its hard lol ❤
It’s so hard! I’m 💯 not perfect at this but you definitely have a great mindset! I’ve slowly replaced over the last 5 years things I bought years ago because they were cheap but never fit my style or cleaning routine. I wish I had thought like you back then and I would have saved myself so much money and time! Thanks for sharing 💕
actually i have been doing this one sheet thing out of necessity, i literally have had the same green sheet for over 8 years now, it is full of small holes and will be dumped once we buy the new bed, i thought i needed different colours and styles but honestly the one works just fine, with the new bed i will be getting a spare only because i realised how extremely rare good linens are nowadays and theres always the "just in case" case and this will give me a bit of peace of mind since we have claw happy cats now, but i actually only just noticed i do that, i do like throw pillows and have the idea of purchasing some but just because i love plushies and those pumpkin pillows are just too cute and ive threatened to get them for years now
I change my sheets every week and when I wash them, I use high heat because I have asthma and allergies. I like to have at least 4 sheets. This way I have some extra already clean sheets to put on the bed right away when I change the sheets or when I spill something on the sheets and make them dirty. I save the dirty sheets and wash them 2-3 at a time to fill the washer. I only wash sheets once a month. The extra sheets are also good to have for guests, you can put one on the couch bed/air matress, etc. If you have pets and a partner you regularly have 'activities' with, the extra sheets are kind of a must. 😂 Since I wash sheets weekly at high tempurature to kill germs my sheets last around 5 years before just falling apart. I only get cotton or linen sheets since those are the ones you can sanitize with high heat and have them last longer than a year. With dogs and a husband the sheets get a lot of daily wear, and I'm not kicking the dogs out of the bed just to save some sheets. Making do with a single sheet isn't minimalism imo. Having 4 makes my life easier and more simple because I do laundry less often and have extra uses for the other sheets. Plus I get to change the color of my bed every week to get some change.
Just washed mine and put them back on like I do every week.. Minimalism is different for everyone. It shouldn't make your life harder. Remember that not all your thoughts of minimalism are going to work for someone else just like I always say my ideas that work for me are not going to work for everyone.. spread the word
As I got older, I stoped caring about having lots of clothes. Now I wear nothing but sweat pants with sweatshirts or tee shirts. So comfortable and no trying to decide what to wear everyday.
Minimalism is so freeing. I have always been a one sheet person too. Storage weighs heavy on my mind, because it means I have acquired more than I need, complicating my life. More than anything, I require air circulation and light. I moved recently and hope to make this home my last. I am retired. I am in my Swedish death cleaning phase. I am leaving my home, mortgage free, in a living trust to my daughters. Everything has been titled into the trust to pass seamlessly to them. I have made the trust in such a way, that there is no ambiguity, no fighting. I am getting rid of non-essentials. My neighbors are in their 80s. They showed me how they installed a pull down ladder in their garage so they could store things in their attic. This is just one of three homes they own. They had downsized! That was kind of horrifying to me, even though they are super organized and very clean. I have nothing in my attic or garage (except a car and golf cart.
Well now I need to know, what sheet did you buy? Link? It must be a great one if you kept it for 10 years! ❤And where did you buy your super cozy comforter from??
Oo goodness I have no idea haha 10 years ago was like a whole lifetime ago and now I didn’t even check the label 🫣 I think my grandma got them for me but I know we only ever get 💯 cotton and at least 350/400 thread count. Seems to hold up well over all the washing 🫣
I have one set of sheets on the bed and one clean set in a small bin in my closet. This is because things happen. I can get ill. If I sweat, or heaven forbid get sick before I can leave the bed, then I can throw everything in the washer and make the bed with the clean sheets. That way the others are clean by the time I wake up. In my part of the country having a simple dark dress for a funeral, that can also work for other functions is sort of essential at my age. Unfortunately, after seventy there are a lot of funerals.
The one sheet rule wouldn’t work here in England. It might in summer when one can dry the laundry outside (if it’s sunny and warm) but in the colder months, it would mean drying it over the radiators as I don’t have a dryer. Not really a good idea. So one needs at least two sets of bed linen.

You bet!
Me too
I agree with you on having more than one set of bedsheets, especially if you have kids 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮.
I totally agree!!
Thanks for sharing what works in your home 💕💕
Thanks so much for sharing 💕💕
Absolutely ! I have one outfit that i wear to every shower , wedding , funeral graduation ! Jewelry , shoes and bag goes with . So no stress no worry and totally comfortable . Gives me the freedom to enjoy the people im with or lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on . Highly recommend.
Such a great idea 💕 thanks for sharing
Used to be how people lived in the past. Simpler times.
@@JustOneDress While I have no interest in attempting this for myself, lol, I am really impressed!
I decided a few years ago that I only needed a bottom sheet. No more top sheet getting tangled up at night. Less was easier for me. A soft duvet or blanket is all I need on top.
Thanks for sharing 💕
Washing a top sheet is much less work than cleaning the blanket or duvet cover each time though
We have two sets of sheets and a set of flannel sheets for the winter
@@lauras4472 I agree, I've ditched the top sheet too, but because I hate laundering duvet covers we've gone to comforters or coverlets only on all our beds, they fit in our washing machine and dry quickly in our hot climate (and all but our king one will also fit in the dryer in a pinch). So much easier than having to wash a duvet cover and no annoying top sheet!
I never use a top sheet. That sheet set gives me 2 sheet changes 😊
Having one set only works for people in warm climates or those with dryers! It takes a couple of days in the uk to dry cotton sheets without a dryer.
Yup, that’s why I said it just works for me. I hope you got the bigger idea though
@@minimalease of course! Life would be much easier with a dryer lol. Alas... tiny London flats!
I remember that struggle!! We lived in a 3 story walk up and the washer was in the basement. It never worked 🫣 that is so frustrating 💕
I had so much of everything and I was like why do I have all this when I just wash and reuse the same things. Feels good to realize that
Love it 😍 thanks for sharing 💕💕
I struggle with overconsumption in my clothes especially and today i came into a conclusion that i will be ok with what i have so i can focus my energy on other things in my life and its crazy that this is the video that my algorithm sent me-what a funny coincidence. Loved the message of this and it really validates my feelings so thank you! ❤
Aww that’s great! 😃
Wow! Those sound amazing thank you for sharing your suggestion 💕
without a dryer the one-sheet system does not work but I too like the limit-system with categories limited to certain bins or drawers, or the just-one rule in the bathroom
Love it!! Thanks for sharing 💕💕
@@katie7748 maybe get a few extra pillowcases for variety?
I keep one extra set for each mattress size in our house... just in case of sickness/accidents... or if it rains before my laundry dries 😝
But really, the container concept does help especially with scarcity mindset. I have found this to be so true and helpful for me... as we continue to move/downsize/declutter this is a great help for me!
That’s awesome 👏 thanks so much for sharing what you do in your house 💕 I love hearing how people work with minimalism differently 😍
I find all those containers an absolute waste of money and resources.
Boy is this timely. I have been stressed and have slipped back into a scarcity mindset and needed this reminder!
Looking forward to the meet ups and emails too!
I’m so excited! Hopefully will be coming out with the plan in the months coming up! 😍 thanks so much for sharing 💕
You are SOOO right! I really appreciate the funeral example.
Aww I’m so glad 💕 thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks for sharing 💕
im down to 2 bathroom rug sets, beige and light blue. all the fall and christmas rugs, shower curtains blah blah, i donated.
Amazing 🤩
Bare floors in bathroom = clean! 2 dry mats to use after shower\bath. 😅
Thanks for sharing 💕
Could you do a video about keeping your camera roll minimal? I get so overwhelmed by mine
Great idea thanks 😊
I need 2 sets of sheets for summer & winter. I don't have a tumble drier & we live in Scotland
I've also experienced the foot through the hole in the sheet. :-) And yes, if we realize that we aren't going to be the center of attention whether at a funeral or a wedding, etc., then we can relax and just be the best version of ourselves.
Hahah the foot through the sheet had me and my husband cracking up for 2 days 🤣
I stopped using top sheets twenty years ago. Making the beds is so much simpler without them. We use a down comforter with a linen cover which I wash maybe once a month. I wash the bottom sheet every other week because it gets dirty faster and yes… I only have one. My daughter’s cat just tore holes in it so I’m going to patch them up and keep using it!
P.S. In the summer, I take the duvet out and use only the cover!
Great ideas! Thanks so much for sharing what you do in your home 💕💕
Loved your video but kept zeroing in on your wall shelves. Do you remember where you got them? I do love the ‘hushing’ idea. It’s really helping me through my new phase of retirement and simplifying.
My husband made them just cut and we stained them! The black brackets were about 18 dollars on Amazon so overall around $100 for all of them 😍
Settling into minimalism has allowed me to finally figure out what I like and only buy those things as I need them. I have curly hair and like all other curly girls you spend forever trying to find the “holy grail” finally realizing that there are no miracle products, no clothing items, accessories etc that are going to finally make me complete has been a game changer. I am so basic and simple now and it’s been such a breath of fresh air.
Love this comment sooo much!! As a girl with wavy hair you couldn’t be more right 👏 there is no magic product! Thanks so much for sharing 💕
Same goes for straight.
I love this concept Becky, it always amazes me just how little we really need & how much excess we can still have even when we've been minimising ❤️
Thanks so much for sharing 💕
I used to love having different sets of sheets to match my mood... Solid colors, stripes, checks, etc.
Now I have only two and I find there's something very satisfying about living simply.
I used to have one set of bedding per bed. However I didn’t always feel like putting the bedding back on when it was ready. I bought a 2nd set so I could take one set off & replace straight away while I had the oomph to do it.
Thanks for sharing what works for you 💕💕
I had one set of sheets until a family member was sick with the flu and thought with 2 sets I could of changed the sheets right away instead of waiting to wash and dry.
Same! I love cool cotton for summer and flannel.cosy sets for winter
I’m the same, I need to get rid of makeup and skin care
I only have 1 set of sheets because I don't like folding them.
They are a huge pain!
I would like this comment ten times if it were possible.
😂😂😂
I have two sets but use one set for winter and Fall and one set for spring and summer.
Same. 😊
LL Bean has 100% cotton percale sheets. They are crisp and cool and I love them. I can’t stand synthetic fiber sheets as I always feel too hot when sleeping with them.
Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️
I can so relate to finding my clothing style! I need to declutter!
Thanks so much for sharing 💕
Thanks so much for sharing 💗
I have 2 sets as we also have cats. 🐱🐱
Hey, I just found your channel and it speaks to my soul. Love all your content.
Aww thank you!! So happy your here! ❤️❤️
Aww, I second that! Couldn't say it better 😊❤
Thank you so much 🙏❤️
That’s wonderful 😍 thanks so much for sharing 💕
So glad your channel showed up in my news feed, now I'm really inspired to start a big declutter. Thank you for the fantastic hints and tips 🙌🤩
That’s awesome 👏 I love when TH-cam works for the good! 😍 thanks so much for sharing!!
I dont agree with having only one set of sheets. I can't wash and dry in one day and like some variety. However, I do have items, namely pieces of tupperware and a bread knife, that are around 50 years old and still in everyday use.
Love it! Thanks for sharing what works for you 💕💕
Thanks so much for this video- I love reading everyone’s experience with what works for them and you’re right about having a container, that is then the limit and it creates an abundance mindset rather than a scarcity one so you can relax 😊
We have a set of good quality cotton linen for our bed and one thicker flannel cotton for the winter which I often don’t like so we have adopted the Swedish bed method- having two duvets which is currently working for us- no more cover thieving 😂
Our children (4 boys under 7) have one set of bed linen each and I have a few spare incase of accidents/ illness.
I felt so validated when you talked about shoes- we have a joke about how much I love shoes/ also can’t find the right ones 😂 and I feel better when I have ones for different purposes.
It’s whatever works for you at the time of life you’re in right now 💖
Very true 💕
This is exactly the motivation and help I need right now! I can't wait for the video, so that I can work on new systems 🙏🥰 ... I especially struggle with too much clothes. They all fit me, but I always have to move stuff, to get to a specific item 🙈 In general, people's expectations about me wanting to buy new things, is a struggle as well, because I'm really trying to "have enough" 😅 I practically had nothing on my wishlist for my birthday, other than money and experiences/adventures. It doesn't sit well with people 😆
Thanks so much for sharing your journey and where you are 💕💕
You post very helpful videos and I am grateful. I always think about the suggestions you make and they seem very sensitive to the ADHD community. I am not ADHD but my sister is and you have helped both of us tremendously. Just wanted you to know that you are appreciated.

It's a reasonable concept. That's the joy of organizing and minimalism, you can play around with what works for you. I have two sht sets, one is washed and ready the other goes in the wash.

1 set of sheets, 1 set of towels - hang them all up aftere washing. Clothes too - just hang them up, next to the washing machine. Use wool og linnen for tops. A couple of jeans. @@minimalease 🙂 it’s literally what it sounds like, you cut the sheet in half down the middle and sew the 2 sides together so the worn fabric ends up at the sides and there’s a seam down the middle 😀

I think the key is to do it all the time. so freeing.

Sandy

I love the idea of minimalism.... But I have 3 kids 6 and under and we had a severe stomach bug already twice this year... Not even with a functioning dryer we could manage with two sheets per bed... Let alone one... Maybe some day... But not now.
Love your sweater!
Thank you!!
Thanks for sharing❣️
💕
we have two set of bedding which are the same :)
Love it! Keeping it simple! 😍
I like my mother’s system for linens & clothing: 1 to wear, 1 to wash and 1 for spare.
That’s great thanks for sharing
Really good idea. Looks like I have some systems but could definitely implement more. I just didn’t realize that until your video. One system that definitely work for me is that I like to keep my clothes number under 30. Seems to be a sweet number for me to be able to manage and care for them.
In addition, there’s a small number of loungewear, sleepwear, outwear items, but there’s no problem there and I do not worry about counting that.
Also I’m in Southern California seasonal closing is not a thing.
That’s amazing 👏 clothing was one of the first systems I created too!
That’s amazing 🤩 thanks so much for sharing 💕
I love your sweater! Where did you get it?
Thanks I thrifted it but it’s Anthropologie 💕
Excellent video. Thank you.
Aww thank you!!
Love this so much! Thanks for sharing 💕
Do you have a video on hushing a room? How does one hush a room in a small apartment
Yes! But I can definitely do another one 💕
actually i have been doing this one sheet thing out of necessity, i literally have had the same green sheet for over 8 years now, it is full of small holes and will be dumped once we buy the new bed, i thought i needed different colours and styles but honestly the one works just fine, with the new bed i will be getting a spare only because i realised how extremely rare good linens are nowadays and theres always the "just in case" case and this will give me a bit of peace of mind since we have claw happy cats now, but i actually only just noticed i do that, i do like throw pillows and have the idea of purchasing some but just because i love plushies and those pumpkin pillows are just too cute and ive threatened to get them for years now
Thanks for sharing 💕💕
you could make rags out of that sheet and use them around the house to clean
Yes you could 👍
I change my sheets every week and when I wash them, I use high heat because I have asthma and allergies.
Since I wash sheets weekly at high tempurature to kill germs my sheets last around 5 years before just falling apart.
Thanks for sharing 💕
We have one set too! And we don’t even use the sheet just the comforter!! Fl is too HOT 🥵 😄
Wow! Yes I bet! I hope your doing ok after the hurricane 💕
I'm in my mid 50's & I stopped buying makeup with tons of colors to choose from when I only use a couple of favorites.
Great ideas!! Thanks for sharing!
I have to have an extra set of sheets. More than once, my dog has had an accident in the middle of the night.
Thanks for sharing what works for your family best 💕💕
I have one set of sheets on the bed and one clean set in a small bin in my closet. This is because things happen. I can get ill. If I sweat, or heaven forbid get sick before I can leave the bed, then I can throw everything in the washer and make the bed with the clean sheets. That way the others are clean by the time I wake up. In my part of the country having a simple dark dress for a funeral, that can also work for other functions is sort of essential at my age. Unfortunately, after seventy there are a lot of funerals.
Thanks for sharing what works for your home 💕💕💕
The one sheet rule wouldn’t work here in England. It might in summer when one can dry the laundry outside (if it’s sunny and warm) but in the colder months, it would mean drying it over the radiators as I don’t have a dryer. Not really a good idea. So one needs at least two sets of bed linen.
Yup it’s just a concept or idea that I based this video around. definitely not a must and won’t work for everyone 👍
100% percale. That is the only type of sheet I buy. It does keep thing simple
Thanks so much for sharing 💕
